Mackie SRM-Flex Portable Column PA System Reviews

1,300-watt Column PA System with 10" Subwoofer, 6 x 2" Line Array, 6-channel Mixer, Bluetooth Streaming, App Control, and Onboard Reverb

Portable speaker arrays, such as the Mackie SRM-Flex, have made it easier than ever for musicians, performers, and speakers to provide their own sound for concerts and events. Mackie's latest 1,300-watt array system weighs in under 30 pounds, stows in a hatchback, and loads into a venue in just one trip. Together with the 6-speaker column array and 10" LF driver, the SRM-Flex is able to pump out impressive full-range sound that remains full and articulate for acoustic instruments, bass and keys, vocals, and even wireless Bluetooth playback audio. So whether you're having band practice or jamming along to backing tracks, the SRM-Flex won't let you down. Adjustable (Stackable) columns allow you to direct sound directly to your audience's ears; we at Sweetwater found it fast and intuitive to dial in a great sound by adjusting the columns and using the SRM-Flex's hands-on controls and voicing presets ("Speech," "Music," etc.). And for users who want greater control or remote access, an iOS/Android remote app is also available. If you're playing or speaking to audiences of around 100 strong and need dependable and highly portable sound reinforcement, be sure to check out the Mackie SRM-Flex Portable Column Array PA System.

Mackie SRM Flex Workhorse!

By Markieoke Entertainment on February 15, 2024 Music Background: Professional Karaoke host for 19 years

I'm into year two of owning this piece of equipment as my primary karaoke Soundsystem. I host 4 to 5 shows a week in different size venues. I can't say enough on how much I love this unit. Especially how light it is.
Note, I seem to have lost power in the amp about month 13, however Sweetwater and Mackie rectified that with a whole new unit in a very short turnover time.

Great for smaller venues

By Fred Ball from Cape Coral, FL on August 1, 2023 Music Background: Singer / Songwriter

I primarily play in bars but occasionally in a 100 seat room. This unit is more than capable of that. It has presets for voice/music/ live that are very good but you can tailor them as you wish. Easy setup, easy to pack in and out. Not much not to like. Mixer is built in thereby streamlining your live setup. EASY!

Kudos to my Sales Engineer - Alan Carter for his assistance in helping me make my choice and expediting the order.

Happy with this purchase!

By Sweetwater Customer on June 8, 2023

I do small duo gigs with a vocalist and I play guitar. I use an amp for the guitar because I play electric and like the sound with my pedals and my Fender amp. But, this works great for vocals and playing break music (through Bluetooth connection with my phone).

So far, so good. Sounds great, super lightweight, and is easy to transport and assemble. Also, Sweetwater is the best - the best shipping and customer service!!

AWESOME BUY!!!!

By Tribe of Christians from Charlotte NC on July 6, 2022 Music Background: Acoustic, guitars, worship, bass, drums & percussion, live sound/recording, light rock

I bought this system 6 months ago for our ministry to do worship/out reach/ & out door worship & acoustic events between 100-300p in our community. So far this system has really exceeded my expectations! The sound quality is great, the ease of use is free at, very light weight and easy to set up. I really enjoy the blue tooth connectivity and the app as well. In addition, I have also been able to run an additional 3 to 4 monitors as well as my behringer 24 channel mixer if/when needed without any issues. Highly recommend for churches, worship bands, acoustic & patio set ups!

AWESOME BUY!!!

By Tribe of Christians from Charlotte NC on July 6, 2022 Music Background: Acoustic, praise & worship, alternative/light rock

I bought this system about 6 months ago for live/out door acoustic/praise and worship sets and so far I have been highly impressed with this system and for the price!! I am able to run an additional 3 or 4 monitors off this PA systems output routing for additional musicians, and also run a behringer 16channel mixer when/if needed. This system alone does great with groups about 100-300 ppl depending on the area with overall great sound quality. I will be adding a 2nd one in addition to this system. Highly recommend for acoustic, piano, worship teams/churches type set up!

Best Bang 4 Your $

By Sweetwater Customer on March 4, 2022

Ordered these bad boys Friday morning had them on my doorstep by Monday afternoon. Great job Sweetwater! As for quality of these speakers I was absolutely blown away. I've been looking for a stylish option as a wedding DJ and this price was unreal. The sound quality on this is absolutely amazing. These things are crystal clear and look great. They do lack a tad bit of low end but are perfect for big weddings. You don't need bass DJs. These are great I'd recommend them to all DJs looking to upgrade their system. The cases and how light they are makes it even better! 10 out of 10 all around!

Great little system

Very pleased with the Mackie Flex System.
The Subwoofer is very tight and not Boomy like others!
and the system is light to carry to and from Gigs.

Perfect for a wind controller

By David Dyer from Toledo Ohio on February 6, 2021 Music Background: a bachelors and two masters degrees in music performance

I bought this system to be the "voice" for my wind controllers and their synthesizers. I needed something with full frequency response, good for playing with acoustic instruments, but plenty loud enough for a concert stage. I already own a PA system so I don't need that kind of volume but this is still plenty powerful enough to compete with large numbers of loud acoustic instruments and something I could just carry. I love the solid, transparent, unadulterated sound of Mackie products in general and this fits right in. My mixers are all Mackie, my PA system is Mackie, and I like their products better than others I've heard, not to mention their ruggedness.

Great First Impression

By Dale Dickerson from Central Wisconis on February 27, 2022 Music Background: seasoned musician (retired)

I got this from a friend that buys Sweetwater gear. I did not need a pa but the concept was so different from a standard two speaker pa system I thought it might be a little back up. Now was I surprised once set up to the room the system would project the loudest realistic live sound I have ever experienced. It seems rather than sound thrown into the room this PA fills the room space with sound, Very cool sonic experience. The liner design makes a good impression on venue owners who have asked if they could play their favorite music thru it. They get all excited when I share the Bluetooth audio in with the ability to control the pa functions.

Very nice PA!!

The SRM-FLEX is the perfect sound system for my solo and duo gigs. So light weight and easy to setup. Big thanks to Brandon Eden for the great customer service!!

Great sound

By Raymond vincent on November 29, 2023

I bought two of these mackie srm flex column system. I love them for how light they are and the power they can push out, pluss easy set up.
As I'm do dj, and karaoke I have to go through a external mixing desk. But I wish mackie would have brought out a YouTube video, of how to set up from mixer desk to mackie flex. There are several different ways and leads and it cost me a fortune in leads, like coming out of mixer and into different ports. It saysto daisy chain the two of then together. I bought xlr on both ends only to find out it clips. So it was xlr to jack. So I bought two leads for nothing. If they had a video on YouTube for use with mixing desk, it would be great.plus other make leads that would buzz, so get expensive ones. Now I have it sort of right I'm very pleased with it.a lot of djs are going over to column systems so get the video done

Great product

By Jim Tom Trent from Morehead, KY on July 10, 2021 Music Background: I have been a DJ for over 35 years as a side and weekend gig.

I am a mobile DJ that specializes in weddings and receptions. I love the system and would have given it a 5/5 but I really need it to have more bass availability. If you all come out with a version that has a larger sub, I wouldn't definitely be interested. Also, the Flex Connect app is buggy sometimes on my Android phone. Overall, I give it a solid and strong 4/5.

PS, Sweetwater is the BOMB! I love that I purchased this product from them. They do CUSTOMER SERVICE RIGHT! I will be going through them for all of my DJ equipment needs.

Mackie SRM-FLEX

By Mike F from Maui on February 11, 2021

The SRM-FLEX is the perfect sound solution for my restaurant gig. I use a Bose S1 in tandem on a stand to add for coverage aimed at another room. The XLR line out on the Flex works great for that. The app works great for easy quick adjustments.Light weight, easy setup, better on board mixer than the competition.I've been using Mackie for years . This is a great new product for them.

Beautiful speakers, but not what we needed for our punk band.

By Sam from Minneapolis on October 11, 2019 Music Background: Live/Studio musician, booking, live production, etc

We took a shot on two of these columns, and was really excited when we set them up! Started off playing some songs via spotify/Bluetooth, and these things definitely kick. The two, middle column pieces are just dummies, and don't actually have speakers/produce sound, so if you're using them for rehearsal/monitors, take the two middle pieces out so it doesn't feedback with your mic.

These speakers certainly helped a bit as monitors, and sound even better when facing a crowd, used a PA, but it couldn't handle what we needed. We play really loudly, and need something we can not only crank the vocals up SUPER loudly with, but also something to plug heavily distorted, loud guitars through as well.

Perfect for everything it says, vocals, acoustic, piano, small bands, etc...but I personally wouldn't recommend if you are planning on using these for a main PA setup for a loud rock band. If you are looking to use these for solo sets, or duo/trio acts, with small, 100 person crowds, I would HIGHLY recommend them. Just make sure you know what you're going to need to use these for.

Minor note - I have an Android phone capable of using the app, but I couldn't find anywhere WHICH Mackie app you need to download. I tried downloading 5 different apps, and none of them worked. Please update some info on which app to use with this product!

Great for solo artists playing small rooms, that’s it

By Matt from New Hampshire on September 24, 2021 Music Background: Professional musician, solo acoustic performer

I've had this product for a little over 6 months now. I purchased this to make life easier for setting up and tearing down, it's done the trick there.

Pros: I like the app for this unit, the tone is pretty good, set up and tear down is fast, very light weight, I like that it came with the protective covers, the adjustability is of the tower is nice and there is minimal feedback.

Cons: only really is 2 usable channels, claims to be 1300 watts but isn't nearly as loud as the EV evolve 30m, very light weight (yes that's in the pros section as well, it tips over if you even brush into it).

Summary: if you're a solo musician playing one instrument and singing, playing to smaller rooms (50 people max) this thing is great. Anything beyond that and this unit is lacking. I'm upgrading to the evolve 30m this week because I need the flexibility of more channels, I need the additional headroom and the low end on the EV evolve 30m is far superior to the mackie. You also get way more EQ control out of the EV. Like I said though if you want something light and easy to set up for smaller rooms this is probably a great option for you, especially at that price

Set up in an old small country Church.

By Dickerson from Central Wisconsin on December 9, 2019 Music Background: 35 years pro and semi pro audio and entertainement.

While the set up was easy in the 250 seat church. I found the unit sent sound all over the area and the listener lack a audio indication of where the sound was coming from. for the musician this was some what problematic as to where to get feed back for pitch reference. It is weird when you get use to the two speaker systems and then work with this enigma. Three stars for the fact you would have to get use to it.

Not much flex to this speaker

By Drew from Georgia on December 13, 2021 Music Background: 150 gigs a year

I love Mackie products. I've used them almost exclusively for two decades and will continue to do so. I bought this system used from a friend. So this is not a complaint on SW. They are great as I'm sure you know. My first impressions after a gig or two playing in a restaurant as a solo acoustic act, are that the system lacks power especially in the bass frequencies, and also does not sum the inputs correctly.
For example: I am a powerful singer. I rarely have to use excessive gain on my microphone. I had to nearly max out my level while the channel was in mic mode to get a decent signal. I noticed while playing my guitar that any louder passages from either input would dampen the other. (A common problem from early PA systems) You guys won't believe this but it happened. The people in the RESTAURANT GIG asked my to turn up because they couldn't hear it in the back. Normally my ego would credit my playing skills for a comment like that but alas, it was because this FLEX didn't have enough muscle. The speaker was 3/4 volume.
As a solution, I will try using a line mixer in front of the SRM FLEX. Hopefully, this sums the inputs properly and perhaps another gain stage or two will help the vocal. As for the bottom frequencies, I'm not holding out much hope. I doubt I could get a coke can to rattle with this thing. If you're a DJ, this thing is on your no fly list. Hoping a mixer sorts it out.
