The DGT is essentially a hot-rodded PRS McCarty packed with personalized modifications and custom-voiced pickups. Uncompromising Value

By Joseph Cantu from Harlingen, TX on April 17, 2024

I've had this instrument for a few weeks now. I wanted to wait for a bit before I reviewed, so I could be as thorough in my opinion as possible. The DGT SE is simply one of the best guitars I have played at any price point. PRS's attention to detail is second to none. I have owned my share of high end guitars and the DGT SE has quickly become my favorite go to. Fretwork, sound, and finish, it's all there. If you're looking for a great, well made guitar with a ton of great tones be sure to consider this one. Very well done PRS and David Grissom.

Hands down the best SE I’ve played!

By Scott from Alabama on March 8, 2024

I've had/have multiple PRS SE's and I've never had any issues with playability, fit and finish. Out of the 6+ SEs I've owned, this DGT is exceptional! The playability is excellent, the fit and finish, including the fretwork, the overall build quality, sublime tones I can get from it are no less than astounding! Not to mention the set-up and intonation was spot on right out of the box! I added some PRS lampshade knobs and a set of SE locking tuners mainly for esthetics. That being said this guitar needs nothing. PRS and Dave Grissom knocked this one out of the park! Extremely versatile, light weight and the acoustic resonance of this guitar is off the charts. I would highly recommend it to both beginners and experienced musicians alike. Absolutely loving it!

Super Shocker

By Marlon Hester from Severn, MD on March 4, 2024

As always, once the package arrived I gave the required 24 hours to acclimate to the climate in my house. Upon opening the box I was really shocked with the feel and quality of the guitar. I bonded with this guitar immediately. Over the years I've become a sort of guitar snob. I generally write off guitars that fall under the $mark. I don't expect them to have decent pickups or a comfortable neck, but I was wrong.

The finish, look, feel, and sound are spot on. It's got me wondering now. If the DGT SE is this good then what does the core model feel and sound like. The coil spilt sounds great on this guitar. Both pickups are good but you will definitely feel more at home with the bridge pickup and spend the majority of the time in that position.

If I can break the prejudice of cheaper is not worthy I think I might be able to exclusively go for SE's going forward. Or at least S2's. PRS just never fails to deliver quality and attention to detail. This is a guitar that is worth your time and attention. For me this is a keeper and I sell a lot of guitars.

Best Guitar I Have Ever Played

By Chris L from Oregon on March 3, 2024 Music Background: Gigging when I can

Simple - Having owned many guitars and still owning a few, this is - bar none - the best guitar I have played. Everything about it is perfect. It came out the of the box set up nicely, just needed some fine tuning but intonation was spot-on. Setup was perfect as well - The frets were better than what I have on any other guitar. For an out-of-the box guitar, this one is the best bargain on the market.
I play blues/classic rock - nails both of those. The coil-tap is not like a regular one that you would expect - it makes this thing sound like a tele instead of a thin single coil. The pickups do not need any changes - they are amazing.
The neck - feels between an old Les Paul and 70s strat to me - beefy but very easy to play. Most comfortable and easy to play neck I have ever held - and that is over 30 years of playing.
Some aren't too keen on the volume knobs but for me - it actually made sense. The switch from this to a Les Paul, no issues.
The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the switch - up is bridge, down is neck - I opened up the back and rotated the switch - it is now perfect.
Is it 'good enough' to gig with? Well, David Grissom thinks so and uses one quite often when playing live.
No regrets at all with this guitar. I also have no worry in recommending this guitar to anyone wanting a great player of a guitar at a reasonable price.

PRS SE DGT - Outstanding instrument

By Cas Azera from South West Florida on February 5, 2024 Music Background: 30 years picking at strings

Feels great, sounds amazing, and is a blast to play.
I selected the McCarty Tobacco Sunburst the finish and quality is outstanding.
Very happy with my purchase.
As always, PRS, Sweetwater and Aaron Tremain impresses me with the quality of customer care and service.
Thank you.

Yeah man. It's cool

By John Martini from Washington, PA on January 15, 2024 Music Background: I make noise. I'm my own fan.

Possibly the best PRS SE they've done yet. The pickups are really good quality and sound awesome. I own four SE guitars now. All incredible, but this one is its own animal. I'm thinking I may buy the gold one as well. I'm a little worried they will start pushing the price up on these.

Can't be beat.

By Adam from Tennessee on January 5, 2024 Music Background: Musician for 30 years.

There is simply not a better guitar at this price point. Whether you're a beginner or a professional, this guitar will meet any need you might have. Mine came set up and ready to play from Sweetwater. It's been hard to put down ever since.

LIVES UP TO THE REVIEWS!

By Bob Bourgeault from Southwick, MA on November 10, 2023 Music Background: Experienced, gigging musician

I received my SE DGT Tobacco Burst a week ago. It plays, sounds and looks great. I had it plek'd at SWEETWATER and have never seen shinier frets…plays very smoothly. I did have to adjust the truss rod as there was a bit too much relief for me. The neck profile is perfect and does feel like a '59 LP neck. I will have to have some work done on the nut, as the G string binds in its slot when I use the vibrato arm and goes sharp. For a sub $ guitar, it is certainly a great value and is a pro level instrument.

Value for Your $$

By Jef from HOUSTON, TX on October 4, 2023 Music Background: Gigging musician, 30 yrs. Experience

This guitar plays great. Pickups are amazing - not humbucker, not single coil but something that is so useful from Robin Trower to The Allman Bros.
Give it up for Sweetwater setups-it came perfectly intonated and ready to play. It's just so much fun to play. I have 20+ guitars. This one is my new favorite.

Btw- Fender, Gibson- you better watch out. This guitar is under $1000 and plays better than your guitars that are twice that price. Get one now while they're cheap and plentiful.

PRS SE DGT

By Dan Moores from Iowa on October 3, 2023 Music Background: 47 years of playing guitar.

I had just purchased a used PRS SE Custom 24 for a great price. Nice guitar but I just couldn't bond with it, I think because of the pickups. Even after adjusting the pickups I just wasn't real happy with it. I'm a fan of David Grissom's playing and when I found they had an SE model I started checking it out (couldn't afford the signature model). Every review I read and heard were great. This was the sound I was looking for. Even though they were on back order I put my name in to be notified as to when Sweetwater would have them. The next day my sales rep, Mike Winebrenner, called to let me know there was one available and the shade of the sunburst was exactly what I wanted.
It arrived a couple of days later and it was exactly what I had hoped for. I can't seem to put it down. The set up was great and didn't need to do any tweaking.
Always happy with my Sweetwater purchases.

PRS SE DGT Tobacco Sunburst

By Eric from Virginia Beach Virginia on September 13, 2023 Music Background: composer, performer, engineer

This model was on backorder. After 4 months, it arrived. It was flawless and surprisingly in tune. Action was perfect. finish was flawless. I attempted to play ALL of my favorite artist's songs, and was swept away. This guitar IS the best built and well playing I've ever owned under just under $1K. Great player if you're gigging. Better is you want to put it in storage and become a collector. I have Les Paul's that are great. This is supreme. You won't be disappointed. Get one now from Sweetwater.

It's as Good as They Said

By Eric Lynch from WOODSTOCK, GA on August 18, 2023 Music Background: Former Nashville studio sideman and touring guitarist.

Everybody I follow online who has gotten an advanced unit of the PRS SE DGT has said it will be your new go-to guitar. They're absolutely right. It's that good. I've played (never owned) a PRS Core Custom 24 that doesn't feel or sound as good as this one. If you're on the fence about it, get it. The photos here on the Sweetwater product page really don't do it justice. When you have it in your hands, you'll see it's far more beautiful in real life.

I just can't say enough good things about it. Or about Sweetwater. Sales Engineer, Nick Graham, has always been there to answer questions and hook me up with the right gear. So kudos to you, Nick! You earned this 5-star rating.

Beautiful instrument

By Mark from KS on June 9, 2023 Music Background: Musician since 1988

It's all been said but... This guitar is fantastic. The looks, the tones, the sustain, the quality. I'd put this up against guitars twice the price. Kudos to PRS and big thanks to Sweetwater the setup when I received it was like I had done it myself. I'm very particular about my guitars being set up for me. This one was. Right out of the box. Will be on stage with me very soon.

Very Nice

By Sweetwater Customer on March 29, 2023 Music Background: I am experienced?

I have a core version of this guitar. This guitar is very close. A little lighter, the sound is a little thinner, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The neck is very close, maybe slightly bigger, with nice fretwork. Like the reviews on YouTube say "it delivers way above its price ". I have had some Epiphones and cold not get along with them.I am keeping the SE to play bars and small stages so my core doesn't get dinged up. Nice job PRS.

Yikes!

By Sweetwater Customer on March 18, 2023

Meaty neck, smooth fretwork, incredibly sensitive whammy and it stays in tune forever. Pickups are articulate and open - you can get some twang too thanks to the single-coil like high end. Feels solid. Out of the box setup was perfect - plays like a dream. The neck and higher frets give a feeling of total control over the strings and the short scale makes it even more responsive.

I'm not a fan of the location of the selector switch, and the pickups individually are sweet, but combined have a bit too much top end for me. Other than that it's a solid piece of gear and a great deal for what you get.

I love this thing.

Killer instrument!

By Jason Rayburn from MOORE, OK on March 15, 2023 Music Background: 35yr hobbiest.

No regrets or remorse on this purchase! Guitar feels and sounds great. Love the neck, was lil worried about hearing it had a chunky neck. Pick-ups produce many sounds depending on pick attack. This guitar will be hard to beat for the money. I spent the extra on having it plek'd and set up with ernie ball colbalt 10's. Nice low action with zero buzz. Have way to many guitars for a hobby player (guess never to many) and this went to my 1st grab everytime i play. Thanks to Zach Shepherd for follow-ups. Sweetwater is lucky to have him.

Amazing guitar

By Matthew Musser from Longmont, CO on February 27, 2023

PRS SE DGT guitar is an amazing guitar.
I cannot say enough good things about it.
My desire for a core DGT has been satiated.
This is everything I could hope for in any guitar, much less an SE.

A lot of guitar for the money

By Matt Sainopulos on February 7, 2023

The fit and finish on this instrument are pretty perfect, especially the fretwork, and the pickups offer great tones throughout the range of volume, tone and split coil settings. Oh and it's light, well balanced and gorgeous.

This guitar is amazing

By Chris A on January 19, 2023

Ive owned a couple of the cores with the Nitro finish. I always found the neck to be sticky. A problem I do not have with this one. After owning this for a few days I feel no need to buy the core. Make sure you are aware the volume knobs are reversed. I can just hear the complaints already from people who didn't research. The quality I extremely high the neck is so comfortable for me and I love the tall frets. Its the perfect guitar for me. So many tones in this and haven't found a bad one yet.

Man have SE's come a long way!

By Kevin Dagle from Dudley, MA on February 1, 2023 Music Background: songwriter, singer, guitarist, the most famous musician in my neighborhood!

I was thinking of getting a core DGT but when I heard the SE version was in the works I waited to get an SE version. Now, I don't have a core DGT to compare my SE to, but if Dave Grissom says it's darn close I take his word. Compared to my core 513 it feels the same weight-wise and playability-wise. The neck feels great, pickups are low power but have a lot of character, she's beautiful. Would have been cool to release them with bone tuner buttons and bone nut like the core, but...definitely a keeper! I like the gig bag too, feels rugged enough for gigging.
I feel nothing is ever perfect so i can't give it 5 stars, but certainly a great guitar for the money.

Very solid tones. Very nice-looking guitar. Good value.

By Bob V from Wabash, IN on April 11, 2024 Music Background: Weekend band warrior.

I like it. Just as it is. It is playable, decent tones and looks sharp. Good price ($). I will keep it.

Here are some of my thoughts.

Set up was above average good. Action is very playable and very very good but I do think the high E is touching ever so slightly other frets when you fret anywhere. I might raise just a bit and see if it helps. It is hardly noticeable at all so I might just leave it. I will say the fret height themselves seems a bit taller which is different than my American Strat and Les Paul. I know I have just played down my frets on mine since I bought them new 24 years ago, so...
The neck is thicker. I prefer a skinner flat neck. My fav is on my Ibanez but that is a metal guitar and I don't play in a metal band. I play in a R&B, pop, rock, soul, country multi-format band. I need versatility.

Pick ups are good sounding but lower output and not as warm and thick sounding as my Gibson Les Paul Custom. So, I am going to try to raise pick ups a bit. I know it wont be a PAF sound but I was hoping for thicker and rich humbucking. This does a sorta close copy of that. It is a solid good tone. And the push-pull tone adds a very nice usable option that is unique sounding. Very even response is nice. Strings seem to all be equal in volume. Has decent chime and bellness. Some thickness and warmness. But I am considering changing pickups, maybe.

Tremelo is very good holding pitch. The arm feels a thin, light and cheap but the set up was good. And it stayed in tune with mild vibrato.

The body style is just perfect. Rides your leg while sitting playing perfectly and a joy to strap on because my guitar is only 7lbs 12 oz. One of the lighter ones for sure. They had some 8lbs 14oz to pick from. I wonder if the additional weight thickens the sounds some?
Finish and look was flawless. Good job.

Overall, under $. One very good guitar. I would buy again.

Excellent Guitar; QC issues need addressed.

By MarkGtrplyr86 from Lamar, MO on January 18, 2023 Music Background: Hobbyist, Collector, Weekend Warrior

This guitar is everything they say it is. Incredible sounding pickups! A neck profile as close to a core as it comes. The maple veneer is just okay, don't expect USA level aesthetics every time. My guitar hadn't come with a tremolo arm, however that issue is currently being addressed. Also, the guitar arrived with the 3-way toggle switch operation flipped. So the upper toggle activates the bridge and lower toggle operates the neck, very confusing. If I decide on keeping the guitar, it will likely go back to Sweetwater's technical support team to de-solder and flip the switch in the back cavity. Aside from those two issues, the guitar is impeccable, and for under a grand you can't beat the craftsmanship! I don't think these were issues that Sweetwater caused, I just wish it was pointed out by QC personnel before it left the factory.

Issues issues issues

By Sweetwater Customer on March 30, 2023

Wish it played as good as it looks. Out of the box, the intonation was so off it was unplayable. Simple D or G chords after strings being stretched/tuned were just atrocious. Took it to get set up here in Nashville. Played several gigs with it and the tuning stability was the worst I've ever played my life. Anything from bending the G string to barely touching the whammy the entire thing would get out of whack. Literally tuning this thing after every song or two in a four hour set. Tried nut sauce as well which barely helped. Also the case came with a busted side zipper which they replaced. Also have had the bridge pick up die a couple times randomly. Read some reviews and talked to the luthier and we put on a bone nut, locking tuners and blocked the trem so you can't lift up on it and it seems to be way better. Will find out after my gigs here. I stuck the money into it because the tone and the look is what I'm after. This is the first guitar I've played where I feel like I need to bring a back up just in case. This reviews based on what I got delivered to my door not on the product I turned it into.
