PGXD14 wireless used for 4 and 5 string bass

By Joe from Southern IL on December 13, 2022 Music Background: On stage for over 20 years

So far I'm very pleased with this system. Easy to set up, easy to use, and hasn't dropped signal a single time yet.

Shure is awesome!

By Edwin A. acosta from Florida on December 7, 2022

This thing is great! I'm a weekend worrier, and play for my church! I have not had to change the batteries the way I had to with another device. One set of batterie's lasts almost 3 weeks!

A fine unit

By Mark Papallo on November 30, 2022

Works as advertised! I honestly cannot hear any difference between this and using a cord. The unit pretty much sets itself up and seems well-constructed. I'm not concerned with accidentally breaking anything with normal use. I also like that the transmitter runs on alkaline batteries. Some wireless units are rechargeable and, even though they may be perfectly serviceable units, present the user with the additional complication of ensuring the thing is fully charged before the gig. Or else possibly purchasing additional transmitters. Also, you needn't worry about recycling when they eventually wear out. Initially trying this out at home, I tested the range by walking down the hall and behind walls in different rooms just to see how critical "line of sight" functionality actually was, experiencing no signal loss. Obviously, this is not a condition you're likely to encounter in performance. The carrying case is a nice addition as well. Worth the price, I'd say.

It’s a SHuRE choice.

This is an amazing tool for playing your guitar. With the noise cancellation from the surge protector. All your devise will work wonders. Of course this SHuRE wireless system is wireless. My overall thoughts are a SHURE thing.

Everything I wanted.

By Sweetwater Customer on November 4, 2022

What more can I say. It functions flawlessly. The price was within reason.

Much better than the 'cheap' systems, by a mile.

Almost 50 years playing everything from small acoustic shows to concert stages & this is hands down the best wireless I've ever used. My 1st wireless was a 9v Samson in 1980 & I've used every major brand along with a few oddballs since then. I'm currently in a 9-piece rock show band that uses almost all wireless instruments + IEMs. All the mics, bodypacks & IEMs are modern Shure systems, the oldest being about 4 or 5 years old as of 2022. 5 vocalists, 3 guitars, sax + rhythm section running a LOT of simultaneous wireless channels. I brought my new PGXD14 to a large outdoor gig with two stages, so add in a couple wireless routers running the FOH and monitor systems on top of that. For a lesser guitar wireless system this would be bandwidth hell on wheels, as I found out playing the WI State Fair with my Line6 wireless system. I plugged in my new Shure PGXD14 guitar wireless after it looked like most of the others in the band had their packs turned on, lit mine up & paired the beltpack to the base unit. Took a whole second & I had crystal clear signal all over the stage with no dropouts, no hetrodyning from the wi-fi router RIGHT next to my side of the stage and no interference with anyone else. Best part is I got a $500 setup for WAY less from Sweetwater and delivery took exactly one day. That's a win on ALL counts to me!

Works great!

Works as advertised.
No drop outs or interference.
Battery life is as good as they say it is.

Solid Wireless

By Sweetwater Customer on June 10, 2021

Love this thing! I had a Line 6 that worked great but lately the dropouts have been a headache. Tried them side by side and in situations where the Line 6 had no signal this thing was rock solid. Thanks Nich!!

Finally! Wireless that works!

I have been frustrated by dropouts from a couple of 2.4GHz wireless units, the Xvive and the Line 6 G50. There's just too much wifi and cell phone stuff in the bar/restaurants where I normally play, and I have a bluetooth pedal connected to my tablet and my table uses wifi to connect to my XR-18 mixer, so my wireless really didn't stand a chance. Then I switched to the PGXD14, and I couldn't be happier. NO interference since dropping down to the X8 band, I can walk to the back of the venue with no dropouts, it's been wonderful.

While my active bass can drive the receiver into clipping, the status light on the front of the unit goes from green to orange to red, and I just dial the volume back on my bass until it stays green/orange. The only negative I have found is that with rechargeable batteries, there is no warning that they are low - the battery light is green, and then it's dead. The owner's manual warned me about this, I thought there would certainly be at least a short time of orange warning light, but the owner's manual was being quite literal when it said no warning.

Very Practical Wireless

By Robert Appel from PHILADELPHIA, PA on July 9, 2020 Music Background: Former Semi-Professional Musician

I found this unit:
Simple to set up and use.
Transmitter Pack uses 2 AA alkaline batteries (Energizer MAX included)
Zippered carry case included.
Once the transmitter and receiver are synced (one-button, IR syncing), they stay synced - even with batteries removed.
Pristine audio quality. I've had no dropouts or audio quality issues due to the presence of Wi-Fi.
Both unbalanced 1/4" and balanced XLR outputs.
Very light weight.
I've been using it for only a couple of weeks, but seems like it will be a good, long term experience.
I definitely recommend this product.

Perfect!

By Paul from NC on May 5, 2020 Music Background: Long time player

Bought this to eliminate cords when playing in my living room (because I don't play anywhere else) and this is perfect!! Couldn't be happier!!

Great wireless system!!

By Paul from Shelby, NC on April 26, 2020

I bought this to eliminate my guitar cords, just for convenience, since the only place I play is my living room!! Now I can walk into any room in my house and not have to worry about a cord. The sound is AWESOME and clear. I play a Fender Stratocaster and a Martin DM acoustic, both thru a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 20 amp head with a 2-12 Hughes & Kettner cabinet. Very pleased with this purchase and would recommend this to the living room player and for gigging!!

Awesome!

By Andrew from Morgantown,WV on May 6, 2019 Music Background: Bassist/Vocals for praise and worship team

I"ve had my Shure PGXD14 for about a month now it"s sounds great, no issues hooking it up, simple sound adjustments and zero connection issues. The original batteries are still going strong, not a battery hog. The PGXD14 is probably one of the best investments I"ve made in my short 30yrs on this planet. It"s a must have, especially if you have a bass. Really gets those low frequencies.

Shure Wireless System

Awesome value for the money. Well constructed ( my last one the belt clip broke right away on another brand) Simole to use- tremendous range. No interference or loss of connection. Recommend highly!

More Than Up To The Job

By Franc Robert from Jacksonville, FL on October 25, 2018 Music Background: Semi-Pro musician, recording

A very solid, dropout free wireless! Put it through the ringer on my gig last weekend, and I did not have a single issue, period.

Setup is pretty standard, plug it up, select a channel, sync the transmitter, and GO! I don't mind sitting the receiver on top of my amp (no room on the pedalboard for one of the pedalboard style receivers!) and the transmitter is again pretty straightforward-hold the power button for 2 secs, it's on-hold it again for a split second, it's muted... hold it down again for 2 secs, and it's off. Pretty easy...

Construction is plastic, but the type that I've seen hold up just fine assuming you don't abuse it-I've had a nuimber of wireless over the years, and never had a problem with the plastic breaking. If you're a touring pro you might want to go higher up the food chain, but for the average bar band, this is more than good enough.

The tone of this wireless matches my corded sound as well-I was actually very surprised at that! I didn't move off my normal settings on my amp, which is pretty impressive! Also, the dynamics were not crushed like I would normally hear on an analog system-the amp and all my pedals responded exactly the way they do when I play with a cord, so tonally, I'm not sacrificing anything...

Battery life appears to come in as advertised, still on the first set of batteries going on 6 hours at this point. The foam case this wireless comes in is very nice, if somewhat on the large side-I'm sure I can rig up a camera bag to hold it, so it would fit in my normal gig bag, but otherwise, no issues.

One last thing to consider too-this wireless runs at 900mhz, which won't interfere with anything-most other digital wireless run at 2.4ghz, which is the same frequency as WiFi, so if you're running a digital mixer with an iPad, you could get interference (a soundman whom I respect told me this actually has happened with him).

All in all, a great wireless! Highly recommended.

Nice!

By Paul from Fenton, MO on October 8, 2018 Music Background: Electric bass

Quality gear; good price.
Easy to set up and use - highly recommended.
Jon, my Sweetwater rep recommended this unit for electric bass, as it was capable of better handling the lower frequencies.

excelente

trabaja muy bien

Happy Wireless

By Ed Miller from Kingman Az. on February 27, 2017

Yeah I was blown away by how great the digital sound was. Low were clear not muddy mid were. Cutting and clear. Nice not to be stepping on cable. What to thank my Sales Rep Ikes Taylor for his suggestion and product knowledge on this product.

Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless

By Mark Lane from Denver, Colo on November 25, 2022 Music Background: Bass Guitar (50 years experience)

Flawless for the first performance. I had been having issues with Line 6 2.4 ghz in many club venues but the Shure is 900 mhz and there were no signal issues. Aside from the plastic construction which feels cheap and insufficient, I plan on using this for every performance. For the price paid I am satisfied for now!

Shure PGXD14 - Good Bang for the Buck

By Sweetwater Customer on December 16, 2019

I am a professional audio engineer with 20+ years of experience; I have done shows for 38-Special, Lonestar, Phylis Diller, Eddie Money to name just a few...the point being I am highly qualified to evaluate gear. First let me say when it comes to wireless, there are only two brands: Shure and Sennheiser; forget the rest!! Secondly when it comes to wireless...you get what you pay for..in other words, this is the minimum level/quality of equipment to use > be warned if you go for the $100-$225 options you will be sorry.

Some of the reviews have said how this unit sounds as good as a cable; I would have to slightly disagree; there is a small noticeable difference to a discerning ear...it doesn't quite have the clarity and depth of a quality cable...but your Average Joe will not be able to tell the difference. I have never tested the unit to the claimed 200-ft line of sight so I cannot factually speak to that; although my professional guess is proabably not. I have used it up to about 75-ft WITHOUT DIRECT LINE OF SIGHT and have had no issues with dropout or crosstalk > however there is a very noticable latency issue. However, at 5-30 feet it is OUTSTANDING. The bottom line is if you are the average joe bar band/summer festival player that doesn't want to worry about tripping over a cable and maybe wants to get out on the floor right in front of the stage...this is an excellent piece of gear/Good Bang for the Buck. If you are making your living/paying the bills as a player you should consider a higher end shure or sennheiser product. -jeff

Good, not great

By Brian Gale from Juneau, AK on September 8, 2022 Music Background: Over 53 years as an Entertainer

For several years I've been using a Line6 wireless system for my guitar. Recently, I needed a new body pack but couldn't get one until December (possibly) so I bought the Shure PGXD14. While it does function well there are several areas where it could be improved starting with; there is no way to tell when the battery is getting low until it's too late. The Line6 has LED lights to tell you exactly how much battery you have left. There is no "on/off" switch. The Line6 has one. The antennas are in the front and are not removable.

On the body pack there is one light to tell you "on," "pause," or going "off." I don't know about you, but I wear it on my belt BEHIND me. This makes being able to tell if you're on or on stand-by a real pain. The Line6 has an indicator light so you can tell at a glance.

The Line6 system is metal. The Shure system is all plastic.

The Shure system works as well as the Line6 but when I can get a new body pack, it will go into the gig box as a back-up system.

Not sure what everyone is hearing

By NT on November 17, 2022

I bought this because of all the stellar reviews, and the company's name and reputation. I don't know if my particular unit is defective, but this thing cuts a significant portion of the lower mids and upper bass range from my tone. I have tried this at home, and at my bands practice with different configurations. In all honesty my buddy's G30 stomps this thing into the dirt. Extremely disappointed. To top it off, I spent so long trying to make myself like it I can't return it.
