Positive Grid Spark GO Ultra-portable Smart Guitar Amp and Bluetooth Speaker Reviews

5-watt Portable Guitar Amplifier/Bluetooth Speaker with 2-inch Speaker, 4 Onboard Presets, Spark App, Audio Interface, Tuner, Headphone Jack, and Line Out

Standing less than 4 inches tall and equipped with a humble 2-inch speaker, the Positive Grid Spark GO ultra-portable smart guitar amp and Bluetooth speaker delivers 5 watts of full-range tone worthy of an amp several times its size over. By utilizing Positive Grid’s computational audio technology, Spark GO breaks free from the traditional tonal barriers imposed on portable practice amps, then pairs that power with the company’s comprehensive Spark software architecture. The result? An incredibly inspiring hybrid practice amplifier/Bluetooth speaker with four built-in preset slots and some 50,000 more patches available via the Spark app. As if that wasn’t enough, a comprehensive set of practice features — including Positive Grid’s AI-enabled Smart Jam and Auto Chords — make woodshedding easier than ever, while the onboard audio interface functionality makes it a breeze to lay down your tracks using your favorite Spark patches. But that’s not the half of it: a built-in tuner, line out, headphone hack, custom EQ scenarios, 10-hour battery life, and more push Spark GO far past the realm of the “practice amp,” truly redefining the potential of a pocket-sized amplifier.

Great practice amp - plus

By ES1 on April 15, 2024 Music Background: Multi instrumentalist

Sounds great, simple to set up & use, and Smart Jam is pretty cool. Haven't dug much further at this point, but definitely the best $ I've spent on gear in a while.

Positive Grid Spark Go

By Sweetwater Customer on April 11, 2024

I was looking for a small portable amp to throw in a gig bag just so it was easy grab and go.This little thing is awesome for that! I've been playing around with it for a couple of weeks and it's been really fun. I already have the 40 watt spark and really love all the features that positive grid have built in to their amps. The spark go doesn't disappoint...it seems to have all the features of it's bigger brother and it's surprisingly loud for how small it is.It doesn't have the booming bass of a bigger one but it does have all other features that make positive grids amps so cool.I really love this thing! Thanks Sweetwater, you always have the best gear at a great price...and the best service ever!!

It's perfect

By Adam Loughmiller from FORT SMITH, AR on February 29, 2024

small size. big sound. it's so fun! i'll clip that little dude on my belt loops and walk around playing the dirtiest of riffs for anyone who will listen. mostly my kids. they aren't as enthused as i am most of the time. but that's not the point here... it's a fun little amp and i'd buy it again and again.

Great Little Guitar Amp

By Sweetwater Customer on February 26, 2024

Bought the Spark Go as a practice amp. The best part of this little beast is the app that you download that offers great tone options, ability to look up songs and play along with the artist as well as record you're playing. I have a full-size Berringer Amp that is very heavy and can't be easily moved around so this is a great option to hook up to my Takamine acoustic and my Yamaha SLG 2000N Silent Guitar. It's very small and very easy to pack when traveling and doubles as a blue tooth speaker too. Recommend buying the hard case as well.

Best practice equipment I’ve bought in years

By Sweetwater Customer on January 24, 2024

Let me start this off by saying I'm both an electric guitar player and a bassist. That being said, this simple amp is all you need to practice for either. The portability and battery power is wonderful, I usually charge it once a week. The tone library is EXTENSIVE, literally hundreds of tones, I am positive that any guitar player could find something they love. And finally, the versatility of having it work beautifully with both guitar AND bass is simply unbeatable.

Perfect for me

By Sweetwater Customer on January 23, 2024

I bought this as a portable amplifier for jamming with my acoustic friends, and for potential customers at shows who may be interested in buying one of my custom art guitars or placing an order for a guitar they would prefer to have made to their liking. It's versatile and compact….. just what I needed!

Amazing Technology

By Mesquite Cafe Blues Band from Las Vegas NV on January 22, 2024 Music Background: Pro player

Understanding this is a 2" speaker digital practice device for guitarists, this technology is amazingly good and beneficial. Trying to use this for another purpose leads to frustration. It will not replace a larger more powerful amplifier. But it sounds great running through a PA or speaker cabinet. For me, I love that fact I can take it anywhere, dial in great tones, and practice or just play without getting evicted or divorced.

Cool little amp

By Carl Dillashaw from Horse Shoe, NC on January 15, 2024

I like the Spark Go, a lot. It's perfect for noodling around on. The best part is you don't need the phone app to use it. You can turn it on, plug in, and play. Four settings: clean, mild OD, crunch, and hi gain. If you want to adjust the eq, gain, reverb, etc..., then you'll need the app to make those adjustments, but the app is easy to use.
For a small, portable practice amp, this thing really is a cool little amp.

Glad I got it, and definitely recommend it.

Great little Rehersal Amp with ALL the SPARK Features

By Raf from Asbury Park on January 12, 2024

The Spark GO provides the full Positive Grid Experience in a TINY package.
I'm using it mostly as a Travel Rig to work thru song charts and rehearse along to tunes.
Simple with ZERO latency which is perfect for my needs.

Rehearsal Configuration:
- Stream iPhone song from AnyTune over BlueTooth.
- Guitar to INPUT.
- Wired HeadPhones.

Couldn't be happier.

Positive Grid Spark Go Ultra-Portable Smart Guitar Amp

By Sweetwater Customer on January 5, 2024

Very satisfied with this purchase. I was looking for something small enough that would make taking my electric guitar on trips just as easy as the acoustic. There is a lot more to this product that I will eventually explore, but as an older beginner, even if I don't figure it all out, it was worth it. Kudos to Lucino for excellent service.

Amazing little amp. Nothing like in this size.

By Sweetwater Customer from Houston, TX on December 29, 2023 Music Background: Advanced Hobbyist.

You're getting the Spark Go modeling technology in a little package. While not all the sounds translate well to it's little speaker system, if you run headphones it sounds identical to the larger Spark amps. But even with its small size, paired with some EQ, delay and other effects and you can get an amazing tone that will make the guitar hard to put down. For even more fun pair with a wireless system. The hype is true on this one.

Great little amp

By Sweetwater Customer from Massachusetts on December 29, 2023

Bought this little amp to help with getting in more practice time, by making it more convenient to practice anywhere, anytime. Does that and more. Sounds great even as small as it is. Packed with features, companion app is intuitive and user-friendly. Haven't explored any of the add-on content that requires additional purchase yet, but from what I can see those don't appear to be cost-prohibitive if it's content that really floats your boat. So one could look at that as the ability to expand the Go's capabilities over time without having to invest in more hardware. All in all, I'm pleased with it. May invest in a Mini or a 40 later on.

Fun and fantastic product

By Carl Nardell from Oro Valley, AZ on December 19, 2023

This amp is so much fun, and so easy to take with me on travel. I just stick it in the pocket on the side of my guitar bag, and I have a ton of effects, and ability to play along with backing tracks. Highly recommend this amp.

Carry-on with this amp + Traveler guitar

By Laramie on December 13, 2023 Music Background: Singer, guitarist, bassist, composer, P4 tuning enthusiast.

Flying to Costa Rica with just a carry-on backpack, and unwilling to trust a guitar to checked bags, I got this amp, my headphones, a Traveler Ultra-Light guitar, and a USB wall-wart. It all fits in a daypack with the headless neck of the Traveler just poking out of the pack's top zipper. Also a 1/4" cable and a fat Lekato strap to make the Traveler playable. The other problem with the Traveler is the awful pickup. So I downloaded some patches for the Spark GO which made the tones enjoyable for practicing. There are tons of patches with amp modeling and basic "pedals" you can tweak, like Chorus and Delay. Through the headphones it sounds great, and won't disturb folks listening to birds and howler monkeys. The speaker is totally fine for practice levels. "Surprisingly good sound" is actually an accurate description. Sounds like a decent Bluetooth speaker, which it is, so you can play tunes from any phone app and jam over them. Guitar signal comes through the 1/4" cable and music app comes through the Bluetooth. Separate volume controls for each. The Spark app had a weird streaming player, but any app on your phone can Bluetooth into the Spark GO. Comes with charging cable but NOT wall-wart. :( Charge lasts a good long time so you can clip this little guy to your belt and dance around the AirBnb untethered. I run it with a tiny looping pedal, but there's not a simple way to get the modeled signal out of the Spark, so the looper and any other real pedal will be before the digital amp modeling, so all loops get the same tone.

No More backline!

By Tony Bowers from Mobile Al. on December 13, 2023 Music Background: Professional Musician

The Stock presets are nothing to write home about. However, you can make your own. I control the amp from my phone and run it into the PA. It sounds great. Is it a mesa boogie mark Vii? No... But it is definitely usable. And enjoyable for my back. 5 stars!

Amazing for its size

By Ross from Spokane, WA on December 13, 2023

This little amp is perfect for me. I suspect most people will want one of the larger models Spark makes, but the great thing about Spark is that their app works with all models, the difference is just the size and max volume.

The four factory presets give a good example of the range of tones the amp can create: clean, slightly driven, rock, and metal. But the real magic is in the app where you can select from hundreds of presets, customize them, or create your own from scratch. You can save an unlimited number of favorites in the app, but only four can be physically stored in the amp at a time.

The price and portability can't be beat, and it creates a surprising amount of volume despite its diminutive size. More than enough for my purposes, but probably not enough for some.

The sound compares favorably to much more expensive amp modelers. I can't hear any difference. It is slightly limited in how many and what types of effects can be in the chain, but all the ones you'd expect and need are there.

There is absolutely no comparison between this and the Fender Mustang Micro which is at about the same price. Not only does this have speakers and app support, it sounds infinitely better in every way.

Positive Grid Spark GO

By Roger from B on December 12, 2023

So far I'm pleased with it. Really good for watching music videos on your phone. Also convenient for taking with your guitar/instrument. It's loud enough for practice, but if I wanted it for just trying to entertain a room full of people, I think I'd go with the 10w or 40w. I haven't had a chance yet to play with the app that goes with it on your phone. There is a bunch of pedals and amps to pick from and is fully customizable.

Spark go

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on November 30, 2023 Music Background: 35 years living room musician

I didn't have high expectations for the spark go, with it being so small. With that said, I was really surprised by how good this thing sounds. Plus, it has four presets that are easily customizable. It's a great practice amp that can be stored in your guitar case. For it's size, it has no business being this good.

GREAT little practice amp!

By John Keen from Broad Run, VA on November 24, 2023

The stock amps and effects are really great, and theis little pocket sized amp is pretty loud! I plan on getting the external speaker for it as well. The app is great for programming your own patches or going online to download patches others have come up with. Very well worth the money!

Surprised me!

By Sweetwater Customer on November 22, 2023

I bought this amp with somewhat low expectations. However, the second I plugged this amp in, I knew it was special. It has a surprising presence for an amp this small. It has some amazing clean tones, and can handle distortion beautifully. With the fact that it perfectly doubles as an audio interface as well, finally giving me an ability to record music. It's also light but tanky. I had it when going around town on Halloween, and I dropped it a few times. still works perfectly.

Overall, I still would prefer to use a tube amp, but this thing is one of the best practice amps out there.

Very useful

By Sweetwater Customer on November 10, 2023

Can't beat this little guy for mobility and the ability to jam anywhere. Sounds really good too with plenty options.

Great sofa Amplifier

By HenryC from Yonkers NY on November 10, 2023 Music Background: hobbyist been playing for 55 years

Love this little amplifier that has so many different sounds. The volume is just right for my use and is easy to take out and just plug in. The different pedals it simulates never lets me down. The Apple App is easy to use and allows for an entire range of different sounds. The next step is to see how it works with Garage Band.

Thinking of buying the next-sized Sparks amplifier.

Great for your budget

By Walter from OH on October 25, 2023 Music Background: Long time musician getting back into guitar

This amp allows me to try out a lot of pedal type options for a very low price. I use headphones and get a very good sound. Plus I have very little space so the small size is great. So I get to conveniently learn a lot and get experience with a low cost and a great sound.

Wow!

By Sweetwater Customer on October 23, 2023

This tiny amp is huge with headphones on. Great for practice. The app is really cool and more than I expected for what this thing cost.

Great for practice and acoustic jams

By T.W. Day from Minnesota on October 17, 2023

Love it! I wasn't a fan of the Mini but the Go does everything the Mini can do in a much smaller package.

perfect practice amp for me

By Sweetwater Customer from Oakland CA on October 10, 2023

Powerful little guy. Perfect for someone curious about playing around with tones and amp combos. I bought this over the other positive grid products because I wanted a practice amp I could hook my headset into in my apartment without using a speaker. This way I can listen to amazing sound combinations and not make my neighbors angry. It's been fantastic practicing guitar along side my iPad. It's revitalize my love of learning new songs and I find myself picking up my guitar more often. Im not trying to play shows, or play for money in a park/downtown atmosphere, I just want to practice and be excited about it. The speaker sounds fantastic for the size, but honestly it's not why I bought it. It's also nice that it doubles as a Bluetooth speaker.

WOW I had NO idea how JAM-PACKED this tiny thing is!

By Mage from Palmdale, CA on October 3, 2023 Music Background: Performer, Songwriter, Nationally Certified Teacher of Music

Our band is in the desert. We can now rehearse in the middle of the Joshua trees. It's pretty Fn awesome. I discovered the Spark GO at the NAMM Show in 2023. I had no idea that this was something cool with multiple tones that I could actually take with me to gigs as an amp modeler. It blows even the bigger competition out of the water. Check out our videos. Wow! You can barely see it in our photo as we both have the amp, and we hang it from our belt rungs (I had to circle the amps).

Great little practice amp

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on September 26, 2023

I really enjoy this amp.
I live in a tiny house and this amp is perfect.

It's loud and clear with the right settings.
So many cool features and amps.

Just USB to the computer to update the software and enhance all the cool features.

I've used this amp for both electric and acoustic guitars.

I highly recommend this amp!

Fun to use

By J D from Texas on September 26, 2023 Music Background: 50 years guitar hobby. Some years professional.

This little unit rocks! There are so many variations to access with the smartphone app. You can also connect to an amplifier or mixer to get a bigger volume. Definitely worth the price.

Spark Go was the answer for me!!

By Tony B from Roll Tide!! on September 19, 2023 Music Background: Bedroom/Back porch player

This was the perfect size/volume for me to practice with and keep my wife/daughter from waking up at night!!! I absolutely hate wearing headphones (earbuds are particularly painful) and having something with very low volume that can still produce decent crunch/metal/clean tones using the app has been a godsend for me. I can take it out to the back porch at night and relax without lugging my bigger amp out and plugging in (then bringing it back in of course).

I also travel a bit for work and this is yet another perfect answer for my hotel room, I drive on these trips so bring along the guitar is never a problem. I'm still exploring some of the other capabilities of it, but even if I only used it for the ToneCloud and never used the other options this would still exceed my expectations and be worth the cost.

I think Positive Grid missed an opportunity to put a Looper in the software package, that would have been great but it is FAR from being a deal breaker. In my opinion you should use a right angle plug so it's more sturdy on a flat surface. If you hang from your belt loop tho it doesn't matter as much. two minor gripes that still do not detract from a 5* rating. Would buy again!

If you're struggling with this amp, I hope this helps!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 23, 2023

Here's a few of the issues or quirks of the Spark Go that I noticed, as well as how I solved the problems:
1: It sounds small and fizzy by default. To solve this, I found myself turning the gain down and adding the compressor to make up for the sustain loss, and I turned the bass up on the amp, as well as adding the graphic EQ and turning up 100 Hz. I found myself using EQ settings that I normally wouldn't use on tube amps to get the sound to feel less "recorded". This works for other digital modeling devices as well.
2: Initially, my bluetooth connection would cut out. I discovered that I needed to be in the power saving mode of my phone while using the app because it changes the bluetooth frequency to one that the Spark prefers. No more disconnecting!
3: Smart Jam struggles with tracking complicated chord progressions, but I assume that will get better in the future

Great little tool

By Dave from KS on August 10, 2023 Music Background: Amateur enthusiast

Exactly what I expected/wanted. Small, rechargeable literally hundreds of tones to explore.
Purchased for the purpose of making practice time easier and more fun, fills the bill and then some. My sales engineer Dave Brow is fantastic and puts up with all my stupid questions.

Great little amp

By Sweetwater Customer on August 3, 2023

I'm really enjoying the Spark Go. It does exactly what I needed it to do: it's super easy to set up, portable, good sound with a lot of tone options. It so small it feels like a toy but in that Christmas morning sense of the word. Something that is just fun to play with but is also really solid and surprisingly loud for its size. Plus the customer service at Sweetwater was excellent

Awesome

By Eliud Rodriguez from Orlando, FL on August 3, 2023 Music Background: Music Producer

I love it, I buy this piece for practice and all the features that comes with it are awesome. tuner, special effects beats to parctice and more! I will recommend to anybody . Remember it is small and to practice , is not that loud but the sound is perfect.

Spark Go Rocks

By Eric from Ohio on August 1, 2023 Music Background: I’ve played in bar bands for 35 years

I love this little amp. I can fit it and my little wireless system inside of a tackle box and take it anywhere. I play primarily blues, classic rock and classic country. I can't say how it does with hardcore metal as I simply don't play that genre, but for everything I do play it is excellent. It sounds bigger than what is. It's not loud but it does have a nice full sounding tone. The blue tooth app is really good too.

Great practice tool

By Sweetwater Customer from Lubbock, TX on July 27, 2023 Music Background: Hobby guitarist

Small, nice sound, works alongside iReal Pro on iOS. Fits in my guitar case and hangs nicely from the front strap button.

It is so easy to grab a guitar and power on the Spark GO that I find myself playing more often.

The volume cannot keep up with other amplified instruments or a drum set, but that is ok! This is for practice.

This thing is a beast

How To Get The Most Volume (BTW it is otherwise great)

By Jon Fields from Allentown PA on July 20, 2023 Music Background: Retired EE gigging a couple times a month...on a good month :~)

Besides programming the amp master volume for "10" you can also use the volume control of the Mod/Eq to get another boost by railing its volume too. I can get enough clean Fender-like tone and volume to jam with several acoustic guitarists. Clearly no problem overpowering them when I let a little overdrive rip. My travel friendly Ibanez Q with this amp in gig bag pocket is killer compact and louder than any acoustic. Ideal for an airplane's overhead storage.

Overall running into an external speaker (use a stereo cable to a stereo input, or a mixing cable with resistors to a mono input), it might sound a little better than my Mini. My Mini makes a quantization noise that I can hear as a note decays to zero. The Go does not do this. Clearly the Mini is a lot louder than just the wattage rating, but on vacation, the Go really does all I need. And without other speakers around for comparison, it is quite good as a Bluetooth speaker (at home my Bose Revolve+ clearly sounds better, but it's at home as I type this :~).

One strange thing I've noticed is the Hall Reverb mix needs to be much higher for the internal speaker than running out the headphone output to an external speaker. I've found with the Mini a different reverb problem, I've not checked the Go, if you use a shorting 3.5mm TRS to 1/4" TS cable you get some strange reverb problems. A mixing cable (mine uses 1K ohm resistors) or a TRS-to-TRS stereo cable to stereo input works perfectly.

Fantastic amp at a modest price

By Bob from Magnolia, DE on July 18, 2023

I could not be more pleased with this purchase. For its price point, this little amp generously delivers everything advertised. Kudos to Positive Grid! The Bluetooth connection to the Spark app has worked flawlessly. With the app, the Spark GO produces an endless variety of tones with surprising volume; and access to the 50,000 user-created tones provides more options than anyone could ever explore. The Spark GO amp has been so convenient and satisfying to use that my other guitar amps were starting to collect dust. However, I am now channeling the Spark GO through a larger amp via its line-out feature. Although the Spark GO's 2-inch speaker sounds great by itself, hearing it played through a big amp and speaker cabinet has opened up a whole new world of tones. The possibilities seem endless. I've encountered just one small glitch. Sometimes when sampling the equipment offerings in the Spark app (trying out different amp types, pedals, etc.), the Spark GO will occasionally freeze up and all features stop working while being stuck in the power-on position. This seems to occur when switching equipment choices in the app in quick succession (tapping too fast on the selections). The solution is to press and hold the power button for at least ten seconds and then press it again. This may have to be done two or three times, but eventually it will power off. Then, restarting the amp, everything works fine again. This a minor nuisance and is easily avoided by not tapping on selections in the app too quickly. And it's possible the problem source could be in my Android tablet rather than the amp or the app. Other than this, the Spark GO has been immensely fun to play around with - definitely money well spent.

What a Practice Tool

By Aaron from Louisville on July 14, 2023 Music Background: Years of Gigging and Playing

The portable and recharging ability is worth the cost of entry alone. Pocket amps have come a LONG way. backed by BIAS software, this thing sounds incredible. I wish I'd have bought one sooner. It's the perfect practice tool with a ton of features. I use it when I don't feel like hooking up my larger rig. I wish these had been around when I started, instead of the Spiders.

These aren't going to replace a large amount for gig uses, but I think this line of amps are best practice amp for the money. Hands down.

Love my new Spark go!!!

Mighty Power in a Small Package.

By Robert Rodric from Rocky Face, Ga. on June 30, 2023 Music Background: Played guitar for over 40 years. Have done some teaching

I recently had the pleasure of getting my hands on the Postive Grid Spark GO Mini Amp and I must say I am thoroghly impressed. This little amp is compact in size but when it comes to features and sound, for it size I will say it can't be beat. One aspect that really stands out is the attention to detail. The build quality is excellent with durable materials that feel sturdy and reliable. My personal experience with with the SparkGO ,as a guitarist who appreciates portability without sacrificing sound quality, the SparkGo has become my go to practice amp. With the Spark app, this little amp does everything its big brothers do. It provides backing tracks, tablature, and a practice platform that other amps just can't supply.
In conclusion, the SparkGO is a remarkable piece of equipment that proves that size isn't everything.Whether you are a bedroom guitarist, a traveling musician, or just someone looking for a great ,portable amp, the SparkGo won't let you down.

Incredible

By Sweetwater Customer from Minnesconsin on June 30, 2023 Music Background: Gigging musician

The modeling is almost an over the top caricature of a tube amp and speaker. Right away I was hearing the sounds that are missing from component modelers. The kerrang, chirp, blur, twang, sparkle, harmonics, feedback, glassiness, all the things we love about tube amps and paper speakers. Sometimes you get zany string noise and a bit of a disconnect between what your hands are doing and what you're hearing, and there's an uncanny valley where it's not quite the same, but the sounds are so juicy and inspiring, it's totally worth it. That's another thing we love about tube amps, the quirkiness and unpredictability. Through the tiny speaker it's ok in a quiet room, but just plug it into the PA or any powered FRFR speaker and it sounds huge like any other modeler. It's maybe a little noisy to gig, but I'm going to try it (with my GT-1000 as a backup, of course). Now I want a Mini.

It is a pocket monster, much like a Marshall long growl. It's hunger, Play something, The volume is great sitting there beside you. I don't even know how to download the promised amps, and pedals, and I don't even care. I have clean to grunge, on four progressive channels. It is so nice looking and feels so good in your hand, and rechargeable is a new concept that Go latched onto. Take headphone out to input of an amp, and It's a big amp now. I haven't even plugged in headphones, I love the grind and decay of the notes on different channels. I've recorded twice with my mic picking up the amp and me singing. I knew it would be good, I heard some good demos. It's as good looking as a Vox, and Vox is sexy. peace

Best Practice Tool Ever

By Chris from Greenville, SC on June 27, 2023

Most of my playing/practicing happens while I'm watching my kid or in the presence of my wife. Not only can you take this thing anywhere, you can take pretty much any sound with you too. Positive Grid thought of everything in their app. From a tuner to the ability to jam along to YouTube tracks and then the cloud of downloadable settings. This thing is amazing.

Exceeded Expectations

By Mark from Oxford CT on June 27, 2023 Music Background: Intermediate home player

Had the volume I hoped it would have but exceeded my expectations using the App and having presets. Can't say if it will meet the 8 hour play time but even 6 hours would be Excellent. The quality of sound is pretty good and the built quality is solid. Only thing left to determine in my opinion is life span. Great little practice Amp.

Really Cool!

By Steve Cordero from SHORELINE, WA on June 21, 2023

The SparkGo amp itself is really a nice portable little speaker. The Spark App integration is really awesome part though. You can change effects pedal models and amp type models. Note, you need to unlock to use some of them. Some of the features are only available with the Hendrix Expansion Pack. The play along app feature (Quick Jam, Smart Jam, etc..) offers rhythm tracks, and solo tracks. That was very nice. I am still exploring this amp and device integration, but I do like it a lot. I bought it based on a friend's review and recommendation, and was not disappointed. If you have the chance try it out before hand, then I would say do it.

The negative reviews of this are silly…

By Scott Rider from Massachusetts on June 14, 2023 Music Background: Performing artist

I read five negative reviews of this thing. It prompted me to write this…
-The negative reviews of The Spark go
were all written by obviously intelligent people,
because they're were able to come up with viable workarounds… for a simple situation they made unnecessarily complex…BRAVO!
BUT as the old saying goes some people are so smart they're stupid…!
- What did you expect from a 2 INCH AMP?
THIS IS NOT A MARSHALL JCM 900!!!
This is a practice amp! the smallest quality one available with MANY output & SOUND options .
- I have played music for 40 years I've played music on stage with stacks, 1/2 stacks, twins,
40 W-single 12 inch speaker set ups and portable battery powered amps, the spark go by positive grid is a beautiful (and the best) product for its size, It's compatibility ,design and function.
It works perfectly !!!
It exceeded my expectations…
I Play a fender strat elite and a Yamaha A5M and they sound great !
Put it in an empty room and play, voilà !
if you're on the go , headphones work awesome… they are actually the reason I bought this amp … so I don't have to convince my neighbors to move , and or build a 6 x 6 soundproof room :)
Thank you positive grid and sweetwater

By Luke on June 13, 2023 Music Background: Hobby guitarist

Highly recommend this amp! I love how many different sounds I get from it. The high gain settings are excellent. I also enjoy adjusting the three band eq from my phone. The amp has killer volume and sound quality for only a two inch speaker.

Game changer

By Marl Evans from South Chicagoland on June 9, 2023 Music Background: 50 Years guitarist and songwriter

Loud and impressive. This is borderline miraculous! Siunds better than any other small amp and emulates the big ones! Go to your local park and disturb the peace and impress strangers with an amp that fits in your guitar case. Then hook up to tour laptop and record to your DAW while charging the battery. It does EVERYTHING well! Don't forget chord recognition, Jamming backups and more! Too hot!

Exceeds expectations...

By ALLEN MOORE from TX on June 8, 2023

I didn't "need" another amp (I have 6 others). This was an impulse buy; but, so far, this thing far exceeds my expectations. It has immediately replaced the 5w tube amp next to my chair in the living room as the "while watching TV" amp. The app's ease of use and the quality of the out-of-the-box amp tones are surprisingly good. I may need a bigger one for my office.

Extremely Impressive Travel Amp

By Chris from Myrtle Beach on June 7, 2023 Music Background: 40 years of playing (but not 40 years good)

This was my first Spark amp purchase, and I didn't know what to expect. However, I'm incredibly impressed with the sounds coming out of this travel amp. It sounds much larger than it is, and it's absolutely perfect for jamming when you don't have the ability (or desire) to lug a larger amp around. I have a few amps, and for practice, I often use my Yamaha THR30ii, but even though it's battery-powered and portable, it is not as convenient as the Spark Go, and this tiny amp is what I will now take with me on trips, to the office, and outside on the porch. I've heard people say they aren't impressed with the sound, but I cannot imagine why. It certainly doesn't sound like a Fender Bassman 10, or even my Yamaha THR30, but for the size, it is extremely impressive, and having the ability to change tones and stream backing tracks/music via bluetooth only makes it better.

Great little Portable Amp and More!

By Steve B from South Florida on January 17, 2024

Positive Grid Spark GO is great for an ultra portable amp! Battery powered, with the Spark suite of modeling amp effects and benefits. Also doubles as great little bluetooth speaker. Thanks to Sweetwater and our Sales Guide Mike Wright for delivering as promised!

Positive Grid Spark Go Amp/Speaker

By Sweetwater Customer on December 12, 2023

Great little amp to provide just a bit more volume for acoustic bass scenarios where power is not available. (Of course no need for it with large stand-up basses). Do not expect a huge volume out of this one - its just a small speaker - but if you have an instrument that can use a little boost during those more remote campfire sessions, this is a great product to consider. Plus it functions as an excellent bluetooth speaker, so you get two functions for the reasonable price.

New player

By Sweetwater Customer on November 10, 2023

I say new player, but I've been playing for roughly 8 months now. I live in a small apartment with kids, and this amp scratched sooo many checkboxes.

It syncs with my phone

Has presets that can be tweaked, so most pedals I've looked at are out the window.

Headphone Jack

You get to go the website and get free software.

Can be used at an interface

I've used and returned many small amps to Amazon. I've finally found one worth keeping. I love this amp. You get a lot bang for your buck with this one.

My favorite part is the different sounds that I can get from it. I've been looking at 2-3 pedals, mostly overdrive, reverb, and looping related, but this basically aloud me to get all three. The looping is tricky, with me being new to all this, using the interface program, but still works.

Better than Expected

By gordo from Yakima, WA on August 7, 2023 Music Background: 20+yrs acoustic, 3yr electric for my own enjoyment

For those criticizing that it doesn't sound like a 100w Tube amp. You are correct. However, I highly doubt you are interested in this for that need. Does it sound good? Yes, it sounds good considering the sound is coming from a 2" speaker. The four presets are ok, as all presets on all modeling amps of any size are. The app is what really shines. It has tons of tones that Positive Grid and users have created. I was able to quickly find some I liked to replace the presets. The app also has an abundance of teaching tools, videos and backing tracks. Does it replace my full-size amps? No, but it allows me to play later in the evening when my family is in bed which I'm doing much more often now. It also allows me to go places and play, like camping or my back yard. It also plays music from my phone. All in all, this was a great purchase. I'm using it much more than I anticipated.

Pretty cool little amp.

By Anthony Hinton from AURORA, CO on July 24, 2023 Music Background: Guitar player for over 45 years.

4.5 stars is an easy choice. I've been wanting to check out Positive Grid for awhile and I'm pleased I waited. The Go is reasonably priced and gave me the ability to see if I might enjoy the Perks of Positive Grid. I did enjoy a few but don't see me getting to involved with Spark. For what the amp is I'm happy, it makes a great little Bluetooth speaker. As far as being able to capitalize fully you'll need headphones. It should be a quarter inch output, most good headphones are 1/4 inch.

Almost Perfect

By Michael McEwen from Axton, VA on June 28, 2023 Music Background: Stoner Doom

Great for sitting around and riffing in peace without getting noise complaints from the neighbors. Don't expect eardrum shattering volumes, just enough for you to find that tone you were looking for. The only complaint that I have with the product is the app connectivity. Don't know how well it's working for Apple users, but the app for Android mobile phones needs some work. Ended up using a Samsung tablet, and have had no issues at all. Just be warned that the app is kinda iffy on mobile phone devices, that's why I couldn't give it a perfect score. I'm sure, in time, there will be more bug fixes and firmware updates, but for now the frustration of constant disconnect was a real turn off. Even with that issue, don't let that get in the way of you buying this amazing product. It can only get better from here.

Good enough for what it is!

By Steve from Michigan on February 26, 2024 Music Background: Praise and Worship, Shoegaze

The Spark Go is a jack of all trades but master of none. For the price, this little practice amp can't be beat. It triples as a Guitar amp, Bluetooth speaker and straight-to-interface but don't expect it to mind low you on any of those things.

It's a solid state modeling amp with a 2 inch speaker and a bass radiator. The 2 inch speaker can give out easily depending on your pickups, you really have to be careful with your levels if you don't want any flub. That says, this amp is capable of alot. It's just a "For practice in a quiet house whole the family, kids or baby is sleeping" kinda thing. You can get louder and push the amp but not without the loss of clarity and tone.

I made a video to showcase how it handles pedals as well. It surprisingly did well for the size and limitations. But bare in mind that the Spark Go was made to use with it's companion app. I wouldn't recommend The user using it with pedals or anything unless it was absolutely needed.

Other than that, good battery time, saves 4 presets. Very limited without the companion phone app in my opinion. And it's much easier to set up and use with that app than people think!

All in all, a great practice tool. Just wish it actually felt like 5 watts instead of 1 or 2 watts. Don't expect an actual amp here, expect a Bluetooth speaker with some guitar amp modeling as a bonus. I think it's a nicer Bluetooth speaker than an amp but for convenience and traveling, you won't need to look further.

FUN

By Jason from Florida on December 1, 2023

Very impressed with this thing..you can get some really good tones out of it.perfect little practice amp..and the app is just plain fun to mess with!! Highly recommend

It's ok

A little louder
A little better for Bass
Other than that it's cool

Great headphone amp or effects processor with line output and a Bluetooth footswitch

By Bob from Chicago on August 24, 2023 Music Background: Singer songwriter Twitch musician

Love it and would give it 5 stars if the speaker was better but it's ok for its size and I don't use the speaker so it's great for me. Love all the tones and being able to change them from phone or iPad. Also you can backup the tones to the cloud and restore them on another device for control great feature and awesome tones! I use mine for streaming on Twitch and it sounds amazing using the headphone / line output. If you want a better speaker get the mini!

Great practice amp, OK bluetooth speaker.

By JC from San Diego, CA on July 14, 2023 Music Background: Long-time player, just casual these days.

The guitar tone from this is really good, the speakers are obviously calibrated to deliver the best/loudest tone in the midrange and that's exactly what you get here. Many of the presets will need to get tweaked to make the volume levels and tone sound good though, especially switching between the speakers and headphones.

As a Bluetooth speaker for music, I'd say the sound is just adequate at best. Gets the job done but you won't be picking this over your dedicated units if you just want to play music.

I wish there was a better solution for hanging it from your guitar strap - because the current method is pretty bad and cumbersome. Get a cheap wireless set-up and go with that instead.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it and haven't experienced any of the weird bugs some of the other reviewers have.
The firmware update that came shortly after I purchased mine helped a lot with the sound, make sure you are using the most current version.

Otherwise, for a little over $ it's pretty sweet. I plan to use it with the Blackstar Carry On guitar I just purchased as a travel/practice rig. Enjoy!

Does Just What It's Meant to Do!

By Geetar Don from Artsville, N.H. on June 30, 2023 Music Background: Was pro in the `60s with one called a "classic" recording. Now just in it for the fun of it.

With the "Go" my little Blackheart "Carry On" guitar gets a wide range of electric tones with about the volume of a small acoustic. Small enough to bring with me anyplace, but used most often just sitting on my porch. I really enjoy having it.

No, you won't feel its low end in your gut, but it is there to hear. Nicely balanced.

The little LEDs ought to be brighter -- but that is my sole complaint. Build quality is suburb. Its battery last for days of occasional playing.

I use the app only to save my settings -- keeping four (Clean, crunch, classic rock, and blues wail) made for that particular guitar on the built in pre-sets.

Great practice amp for living-room jamming

By Sweetwater Customer on June 1, 2023

I got mine direct from the manufacturer. It is exactly what I wanted for impromptu rehearsing. I use an inexpensive wireless system to make it so convenient and easy. It's small but works perfectly. I may use it direct into my PA for solo gigs. I currently use my Mini for gigs.

Spark go review

By Gary Sprayberry on January 12, 2024

I originally ordered this product to use as a blue tooth speaker. In that respect I am very pleased. The sound quality is great. I haven't quite got used to it as a practice amp. It's a learning process. Bear that in mind when you get started with it. It may be better suited for electric guitars versus acoustic. The product looks feels and weighs excellent. I love the look. It has lettering on it though I as an older player have trouble seeing.

Good, but not as advertised

By Kenneth Luekens from MURRIETA, CA on October 3, 2023

It is a good little amp. But not for bass notes. Positive Grid says it will work as a bass amp. No! The frequncy response range on goes to about 100 Hz. And all strings on a bass guitar have frequencies lower than that. I plugged it in and started to tune up. On the E string (41.3 Hz), the amp sounded like it was grinding coffee.

So nice convenient portable amp, but, in spite of what their ad says, not suitable to use with a bass guitar

Not enough volume

By SP on June 7, 2023 Music Background: Long time bedroom player

I purchased a Spark GO through an early offer by Positive Grid. It's a solid little piece of kit that takes advantage of the Spark ecosystem and is easy to use.

Unfortunately, it is not loud enough, although it works fine as a headphone amp. Using a Les Paul Jr with humbuckers, the GO can hardly be heard on the first of the four built-in programmable settings (clean). The second setting is just slightly louder, while 3 (multi fx) and 4 (multi fx) can actually be heard. Mind you, this is with all volume knobs, both on guitar and virtual pedals on the app, set at max. This is hardly what I would call "room-filling" sound which is hyped in the Spark GO ads. All of the settings can be changed, of course, so that a bit more virtual pedal volume can help boost things (though not quite enough), but it would be nice if the amp could play clean at an audible volume.

The GO does give you access to the Spark app, which is fun. My workaround for more volume was to run the headphone output into the input of a guitar amp. Much better. But this defeats the purpose of a tiny amp like the Spark GO..

Might have been nice...

By Mitch Peoples from Bluemont, VA on November 10, 2023

I watched the vids and decided to give it a Go. Sadly, it was DOA from the start. The multifunction I/O and Bluetooth button wasn't working. Returned it for a Mini. WAY better.

The Sound Quality

By Sweetwater Customer from MI on June 2, 2023

The sound quality sucks, spend the extra coin and buy a MINI. I have a BOSE Flex Bluetooth speaker and it doesn't even come close. I'm not trying to be an A-Hole but Positive Grid overhyped this along with most of the proud owners. Look at it for what it is. Very cool training amp as is the Spark 40 and Mini but it is TOO SMALL and so is the sound. Please send PG a message by exchanging it for something worthy. I ran my BOSS GT-1000 core into a Bluetooth transmitter and then into two BOSE Flex now that sounds like the hype PG has put behind this GO the core/Bluetooth wasn't functional as there was too much latency in the cheap transmitter but when I received my GO I was expecting something close to one of the BOSE and it doesn't even make it past 1/3 of one BOSE if that. I'm not a BOSE fan just comparing small portable battery units, so I suggest exchanging the GO for the Mini. Another option is I have the Spark 40 that I run on a battery or take it out to an empty parking lot and run it off a cheap 150-watt inverter from my van and rock as loud as it can crank. The GO is priced OK and I'm sure it has its place like fitting in your guitar case, plugging it into a PA, or if you like walking around the yard or neighborhood with this on your belt. Myself I'd rather spend a little extra and get a decent sound that PG hype tried to market the GO as being.

I hate this

By M from North Carolina on February 7, 2024

The app is NOT easy to use. I can't even figure out how to change the amp in the presets.
There is no button or option to do it. You just touch the amp and it should pull up a bar with the other amps. It did this once and then never again. So I'm stuck with the 4 that they decided I get. Then settings changed randomly between preselected presets so I can't even have those be stable. I literally touched no knobs or anything. I got this because it has a built in tuner... That's pretty much it. All this fancy app crap doesn't mean anything if it's frustrating to navigate and get through. Could not hate this anymore. Zero stars.

Loud glitch noises

By Sweetwater Customer on June 28, 2023

Maybe I just happened to buy a defective product, but on occasion I would play with the volume set low, then all of a sudden a loud drone-like sound comes out that you can only get rid of by pressing and holding the power button. Drone noises have sounded like a sine wave, or a held sample of a note that I just played. Probably going to return this since it's happened about once a day since I bought it.

Big let down…

By Not important from New England on June 19, 2023 Music Background: Pretty much very good

First off:: this pertains to the TO GO:::issue when turning volume up or down… a static like sound every 1/2 a turn. Their tech support At POSITIVE GRID IS NONEXISTENT… should have purchased thru SW… did not know SW was going to carry this PG brand. Issue with THE SPARK AS WELL… power source did not fully connect into the amp…
TOTALLY DISGUSTED: not at SW/ but at Positive Grid.. they should have worked out THE BUGS BEFORE RELEASING THEM TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC/ I am sure SW positive grid gear gets lot of tech support if needed( and it probably will at some point)… I know SW WILL BE WAY MORE HELPFUL THAN THE ACTUAL MAKER HERE…

buy the Mini instead

By Sweetwater Customer on June 13, 2023

Not loud enough and the quality of whatever sound does come out of it isn't really that good. Positive Grids Mini is a better choice, a bit bigger but much better.
