The PC3 is Kurzweil's ultimate performance controller keyboard, with an enormous collection of stunning sounds combined with comprehensive real-time controller functions.Kurzweil PC3 Workstation Keyboard at a Glance:
Legendary Triple Strike Grand Piano, plus other keyboards The PC3 is loaded with the famous Kurzweil Triple Strike Piano, with dozens of variations to accommodate every kind of player. Also included is the Classic Keys ROM, which puts an impossibly large vintage keyboard rig at your fingertips. The recognizable sounds of classic electromechanical instruments, with all of their characteristic imperfections, have been faithfully re-created, along with pedals, amps and speakers. Lush Mellotrons, growling electric pianos, and funky Clavinets are all there at the touch of a button, programmed to sound just like those classic albums. For more vintage firepower, the PC3 is equipped with the most advanced version of Kurzweil's widely lauded KB3 Mode tonewheel organ simulator, which screams, sputters and sizzles just like the original. In addition to newly developed Leslie effects, and a new bank of B3 programs, we've also included sounds from the classic Vox and Farfisa combo organs. The PC3's nine sliders provide real-time drawbar control. Amazing new features in version 1.3 PC3 Version 1.3 has just been released, and Sweetwater is the only place you'll find it! We're updating all PC3s and PC3Xs to the latest version before shipping them. This OS upgrade officially brings the PC3s to a "feature complete" status. PC3 Operating System 1.3 Features:
Hundreds of additional sounds The PC3 offers an enormous sound set of over 800 programs. With some of the best samples in the industry, and a powerful, responsive synth engine breathing life into them, you'll feel like you're playing an actual instrument, not just playing samples. All of the basic sounds - basses, guitars, drums, horns and synths - have been painstakingly programmed to reflect the needs of today's professional players, representing a broad selection of styles and flavors from the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and today. In addition, the PC3 includes over 250 orchestral and string section programs. Amazing effects power With up to 16 insert effects plus two auxiliary sends, the PC3 offers more than twice the processing power of Kurzweil's acclaimed KDFX engine. Effects can be chained together in series, or distributed among the PC3's 16 multitimbral channels. And these are simply the best effects in the business - burning distortions, transparent compressors, warm phaser and chorus effects, perfect reverbs - everything from flawless vintage emulations to concert halls which decay into complete silence. All parameters are assignable to any of the PC3's real time controllers - sliders, pedals, wheels, etc. Powerful onboard sequencer For good measure Kurzweil included a 16-track sequencer. Combining a set of powerful song editing functions like step editing, swing, and controller scaling with a new friendlier interface, the PC3 can easily double as a workstation, ideal for music production on the fly. Also included are sixteen (yes, 16!) independent arpeggiators as well as hundreds of pre-recorded beats and musical phrases. Add in USB, Flash card port, a newly designed keyboard action, and a new intuitive user interface, and you've got a workstation-grade keyboard in the PC3. Custom-designed chips for premium sound quality One thing which clearly sets Kurzweil apart from the competition is the fact that they design their own chips (called ASICs) for all Kurzweil products. Simply put, these chips are customized for optimum audio performance. Some other manufacturers use general-purpose DSP chips commonly found in cell phones, watches and televisions. What does this mean for the end user? It means that all of the processing power in a Kurzweil chip is devoted exclusively to sound. It means no latency - the performance is lightning fast. And most importantly, it translates into that rich, full, glitch-free sound for which Kurzweil has become famous. Incredibly powerful Dynamic V.A.S.T. synth engine The PC3's new Dynamic V.A.S.T. architecture is a huge step forward in synthesis, the fruit of several major strides Kurzweil has made in improving processing power, flexibility and user-friendliness. VA-1 Virtual Analog Synthesizer built in In another huge development, Kurzweil has resurrected the VA-1 Virtual Analog Synthesizer, having built its synthesis engine right into the PC3. Hear the VA-1's power-shaped, anti-aliasing oscillators combined with a newer, larger set of V.A.S.T. filters and non-linear processors and you'll understand why the internet is buzzing about this feature. Revamped, easy-to-use interface While the PC3's user interface may look familiar to veteran Kurzweil users, major improvements have been made, allowing for a much more user friendly experience. Expanding upon Kurzweil's V.A.S.T. architecture, the PC3's new UI delivers all the power of a Kurzweil, combined with unprecedented ease of use. The PC3's backlit 240 x 64 display conveys all the information you'll need, when you need it, in an elegant, easy to navigate environment. All programs and setups are accompanied by help messages which can be accessed by pressing an "Info" soft button. Kurzweil PC3 Workstation Keyboard Features:
The Kurzweil PC3 delivers more musical power than you can imagine!

This is a truly unique instrument that will hold its own for years to come. The programming is endless. The operating system can grow forever. The sounds are pristine and it covers from legends to fron... read more [+]teirs that have never been heard. Construction is the best. The ability to build and wire your own algorythms is insane on a sonic level. To port the sound on any given level to through a max of 30(plus its level) levels of other layer DSP functions is flat out scary. I defy anyone to say they can outgrow this wonderful instrument. I own a fully blown m388 and that is a monster too but this holds its own to anything out there and then some. The effects section is more powerful than the KSP8...as if you even need a lot of effects like other boards but it is there for the taking. The VA-1 is NOT sample based but oscillator based and again another method of incredible synthesis along with the KB8 B-3 organ and other organ abilities. Just the rotating speaker perameters are over 10 adjustments... ENJOY! close [-]
March 12, 2009 Music Background: semi pro, composer > aka Morse Only thing better than a PC3
by Jim Cason from New Bern, NC USA
A year ago, I wrote Sweetwater's first customer review on the PC3X (beta OS 0.9 at the time), and it has only improved since then! OS as of writing is 1.31.March 2, 2009 Music Background: Long term musical tech, semi-pro musician now. Just one itty bitty problem ... read more [+]- the 3X sits very well in my studio, but it is a bit much to haul around to gigs, so I used my trusty K 2661 for gigging. Another itty bitty problem - the more I played the PC3X, the more apparent the difference between it and the 2661. PROBLEM CURED - Now I have BOTH a PC3X and a PC3 (both from Sweetwater). Got it a few days ago, played the first gig (OK it was rehearsal) yesterday. First time playing it in the band. WOW - you can even say it backward - I knew it sounded great soloing, but I wasn't looking forward to trying to find out just which sounds would blend in right - you know, cut through when needed, but not be obnoxiously louder than the others. It NAILED it! I've always had a problem with my synths in coming up with a really good sounding String Ensemble that was responsive - and actually sounded like a live string section. I got to that point in the song, just hit the "String" ROM button - played the first one that came up - what a blend. From soft as a whisper to a full Hollywood sound. Then came the song with a solo Cello part. I've been using Kurzweils since the K2000 - but this cello didnot' sound like metal, plastic, and ICs, it sounded like wood and strings being bowed with horsehair. A little extra pressure, vibrato on the notes. I'd been HOPING for a single keyboard that would mean not having to haul a pair of keys and a double stand. This one just may get there. It is so much easier (with the two base ROMs) to just punch a category of sound, and have something that fits; and to also have the ability to change patches with a 3 or 4 digit numeric code. I do a lot of clonewheel, and having a full set of nine sliders instead of 8 plus the modwheel just works better. I'd been planning this for a while, but wasn't sure of 61 vs 76 keys - but I need to be able to do piano on it, and 76 is right for me. The screen is small - but it is ALL that is needed for live playing. Just hook up to the computer in the studio for the full editing package, they show on dual 19" LCD screens. Not going to be doing that much editing patches during gigs. Great job, Kurzweil. close [-] Amazing Sounds

I have the greatest wife in the world! She bought the PC3 for my Christmas/Anniversary present and all I can say is WOW!. This keyboard replaces my 15-year old Roland that bit the dust a few weeks ago. As a gigging musician, I needed something that had all the performance features my old Roland had plus the program presets sound SO much better and the effects are lush(the extra poliphony and layers don't hurt either!). Thanks to my sales rep, Nick Shenkel for your covertness in keeping this a secret with my wife - I was truly and pleasantly surprised - I have spent many hours playing it and it's only the day after Christmas! close [-]

This is my fourth Kurzweil and the best of the lot. They've all been great but Kurzweil pulled out all the stops with this one. What amazes me the most is are the capabilities yet simplicity of use.... read more [+] The ability to quickly call up patches and play and also recall patches is excellent. Great job Kurzweil! And go Sweetwater! The piano is nice too but slowly becoming dated - for that I use my Roland. For this reason and this reason only, I give it 4.5 instead of an all out 5. close [-]
