The Dawn of an Era
The Fender Custom Shop 1951 Relic Precision Bass represents the dawn of an era. In the beginning, the Precision sported a slab body without sexy contours - that would come later; but in 1951, the punchy, fundamental-rich sound of Leo Fender's electric bass changed music forever. Fender's top luthiers spec'd this superb axe with a period-correct U-profile quartersawn one-piece maple neck, and a stacked humbucker that looks like the original single-coil, but delivers classic P Bass growl without a hint of noise. When Leo Fender brought his first electric bass to market, he may not have realized that over a half-century later, his creation would still be going strong. Over the years, the Precision has undergone modifications - most notably morphing from its original slab body style (which is preferred by quite a few purists) to a Strat-like contour several years after its introduction. Visually, the Fender Custom Shop 1951 Relic Precision Bass takes you right back to where it all started.
Vintage vibe - with all the trimmingsFender Custom Shop 1951 Relic Precision Bass serves up vintage vibe, but with a few twists. Starting with the period-correct slab ash body adorned with with a gold anodized pickguard (not period-correct) Fender's Custom Shop luthiers then fitted this axe with a pickup that looks spot-on vintage - but is actually a stacked humbucker in disguise. This pup delivers classic P Bass tone - without the noise.
The Relic treatment gives you real deal visualsFender Custom Shop's Relic treatment creates instruments that are spittin' images of the originals. With the exceptionithout sneaking a look at the neck heel stamps, you'd be hard-pressed to distinguish the 1951 Relic Precision Bass from the real deal. This P Bass wears an aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes - standard back in the day - are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful; they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities - giving you the look, sound, and feel of an aged classic.
