Dynamic mic with vocal-friendly presence peak The Audix OM6 is a dynamic, hypercardioid, hand-held vocal mike. The OM6 uses Audix's special VLM (very low mass) technology and employs a gently rising frequency response from 2-10kHz. The microphone has a response very much like a condenser and is very responsive to transients and harmonics. A real "singer's microphone" The OM6 is a singer's microphone. If you need a microphone with a midrange boost this is not going to help you. If you're not looking for coloration but would appreciate a tight pickup pattern the OM6 is for you. April 12, 2006 Music Background: good feedback rejection
by robert from u.k.
i tried this mic out in a couple of band practice situations(rock and metal bands) as supposed to actually doing a gig. the pros of this mic are that it is very good at resisting feedback mainly becau... read more [+]se of its tight pickup pattern and the fact that although it is a hypercardiod mic it seems to have no pickup at the rear.this means that you really can put a moniter directly behind this mic, which is unheard of with any other super or hyper cardiod mic.this does offer more freedom for the vocalist to wander around without having to to worry about moniter placement and feedback. the cons were that it did have a bit of handling noise (compared to say the sennheiser 900 mics which are exceptional at this mind!) and that although i thought it gave quite a natural thick representation of the voice i definatly didnt think it was clearer than some other dynamics ive used( the clearest dynamics ive tried have been the audio-technica ae6100 and the sennheiser e935) the only other thing about this mic is that it is designed without the usual mid range presence that is in most other dynamics to give them clarity. i found this lack of mid presence in the mic (on one p.a. system) did not give the mic a very good ability to cut through the mix of the band. overall i think the mic is a good problem solver in high spl situations (and where you might want be able to EQ in some mid presence )but overall i would say there are better sounding mics for my voice ( which is very clean and melodic i.e. geoff tate-queensryche, the singer from Hammerfall, roy kahn-kamelot....etc. close [-]
