New School Microphone

By Joseph Toups from Louisiana on April 9, 2023

The audio quality is excellent. There are no apps or anything... just plug in and record. The only thing about this mic is that you must remember the exact number of clicks to set the gain before recording. Very realistic sounds for guitar tones and voice.

Exactly What I Needed

By Rodger French from Fairhope, AL on December 15, 2020 Music Background: Professional accordionist and percussionist, with extensive background in musical theatre and studio work.

Having never played music on Zoom, I needed something other than the onboard computer mic, so I was advised to get an Apogee MIC PLUS from Sweetwater. I spoke directly to David Snyder, Sales Engineer, who was very knowledgeable and helpful, and placed the order. It arrived on time and in time for my Zoom "debut." The results were entirely satisfactory and I plan to use this mic to do some more remote broadcasting and recording.

Did my first time ever professional Zoom performance and the Apogee mic worked like a dream. The sponsor of the event said it sounded fantastic!

As an actor I can now use this mic for my audition self tapes and other online events. Thank you Sweetwater for this amazing piece of technology to

make my performances top notched!

Love the Apogee Microphone from Sweetwater!

Great mic

By Sweetwater Customer on November 23, 2020

My college trumpet class (which is one-on-one with the professor) went from in-person on campus to zoom. My professor contacted his rep at Sweetwater to find a mic that would work well for me, and this mic was recommended. It works great - thank you!

Excellent mic for iPhone & iPad

By Victor from Princeton NJ on April 29, 2020 Music Background: professional musician

I do a lot of traveling between performances and I'm on the road a lot. Also their times when I'm at home but I don't want to use the home studio and this really does a great job. Quick easy set up. The mic is easy to use it's just plug into your iOS set the gain level with the rotary knob and then set the blend from source and daw. I personally like Cubasis 3 better than Garage Band and the mic works excellent with both. Great for podcasting too. Thanks Sweetwater & Apogee.

So far so good

By Sean O'Connor from Maryland on April 23, 2020 Music Background: former pro, now part-time

Only recently discovered that USB mics were a thing. Part time musician still trying to update my gear knowledge from the Stone Age (1980s-90s). Wanted to do some simple direct to laptop or phone recordings for social media. Onboard mics--especially laptop--were crappy, especially an apparent gating function on the MacBook Air mic. This mic was truly plug and play, while totally transforming the quality of my direct to laptop and to social media recordings. Works easily with iMovie. I don't do anything to the recording, although I suppose I could add some compression etc. Helps to play around with placement and mic's volume control. Not a ton of headroom when you turn up to where you need to get strong signal. But not a big problem.

Incredible microphone

By Daran Wallman from NC on April 22, 2020 Music Background: Lifelong intuitive sound healer.

This Mic was definitely worth the investment. The versatility of being able to plug into my Mac and iphone is fantastic. Night and day difference compared to using the factory mics. Super easy and amazingly clear for making youtube videos and using Zoom.

Great Mic for iPhone/iPad

By Michael Troy from Melbourne, FL on April 17, 2020 Music Background: Open Mic Hero

So I ordered this mic the other day just to do simple recordings on my iphone of solo acoustic guitar/vocals as I wasn't happy with the sound quality of the built in mic. I plugged it into my phone and was up and running in a couple minutes...no software needed, just plug and play. My initial recordings were horrible, but not due to the mic. I wasn't using headphones to set the gain so I was just going by the LED's on the mic. This mic is super "hot" and picks up everything so setting the correct gain is critical!!! Just my thumbnail on the low E sounded like small arms fire, my dog walking on the hardwood floor in the other room (door closed) sounded like a cattle drive, and the ceiling fan became a tornado. Without headphones you can't listen to your recording without unplugging the mic (which powers off the mic and brings the settings back to zero) so then you start from scratch again if you didn't like the recording. I was a little worried I had just blown a bunch of money.

The fix? I got a pair of cheap headphones to set the level and find the best placement, and took the foam windscreen off my Shure to block out the pops and ambient noises. The result was a very good quality recording just direct from my iphone's video camera with no post production cleanup. I imagine you could get a rather professional sounding recording if you ran it through some DAW software, but I don't do anything that fancy...just record for my own enjoyment or sharing on Facebook. My opinion is that this mic would make for a very professional recording device in the right hands.

My current thoughts about the Apogee Mic

By William Boyd from UT on May 15, 2019 Music Background: None

I was in the process of returning the Apogee Mic you sent me however my son convinced me that I probably should keep it to write my new book. I am now waiting to meet with my son tonight after he gets of work to go over the detials of how my Apogee works and just what I need to do to make it work correctly.

I am coninced that your Apogee works better than the Samson I was using.

I will let you know after my meeting tonight.

Apogee MiC Plus

By Jerry Howell from Montgomery, AL on January 23, 2018 Music Background: Broadcasting. Radio, TV and Voice Over

I've been in broadcasting, radio and television, all my life with a LOT of time spent in the studio recording commercials. I'm talking 6 hours as day for 30+ years. Some people like a mic that is transparent with no coloration. I'm the opposite. I like to work the mic in and out to get different effects. This mic is great for that. I can move close and shake the walls or back off and get a clear, clean delivery. I never thought I would get this quality with a USB microphone. You get what you pay for and this mic steps up to the task. Forget the money...if you make your living at this game you must have the right gear. I highly recommend this mic. But then again...Apogee has never let me down.

Apogee's Mic+ Will Up Your Connection To Your Audience

By Kevin in Colorado from Pine, Colorado on March 16, 2022 Music Background: Percussionist for fun & serious audiophile for decades

I went from the built-in mic on my HP laptop to the Apogee Mic Plus and took a quantum leap forward in audio quality! My clients on Zoom noticed right away. One guy who'd listened to me for about a year exclaimed: "Why do you sound so good tonight?!" on his graduation night. It was the first night with the Mic Plus. We were told by the chair of the Boulder Guitar Society it would make a big difference in sound to use a quality microphone and an external sound card when playing for each other and he was so right! The Apogee's built-in audio interface is real quality and I hear better with it doing the converting for me. Well recorded music sounds great through this mic! Vocals and stringed instruments are especially fine! So yes, I've been enjoying music more listening through the Mic+. (Weird but true.) Apogee is known for their great electronics, especially digital to analog converters, so this is not a big surprise. The settings to monitor Self, Self mixed with Program or Program alone is something that sets this little rig apart from others, and this is important! I usually like the mix of self and others in the program best for most purposes. Everything is plug and play and it was easy to set up and get used to. My only complaint is the need to reset mic output after a program rest. I work around that by pausing Zoom and hitting mute on the Mic+ and the settings are still good after break. This is one solid piece of kit!

A Great Microphone

By Charles Dennis from Studio City, CA on November 17, 2020

Sam:

The Apogee MIC+ was everything you said it was and more. The recording quality is excellent and I don't need to sit in a padded cell for my auditions.
Thanks once again for all your assistance.

Almost perfect

By Tony Page from New york on February 12, 2021

This mic is excellent. We are using it to make live recordings of our band at full volume in our studio for quick feedback and evaluation purposes. Four stars only because the volume attenuation must be reset every time a recording is stopped and a new one begun. Someone has to re-level the input at the start of every song. The recording quality is terrific overall.

High Quality

By Vincent Vinay from SoCal on March 9, 2021

First off this MiC is USA made and is very high quality. When you hold it in your hand it is substantial, the kit gives you everything you need including and adapter for the mic stand and 3 different cables. The Apogee website is great and the CS answered a ton of questions.
I have been on a quest to find something that can capture the essence of live recordings in a room with using a PA and live streaming to Facebook. This MiC is the best external mic for the Iphone that I have used, but not without a couple issues. I have a very sound proof room and spent a lot of time with the mic in different areas testing. My first issue is setting gain is a real pain, unless you have someone helping you its up and down several times to get the adjustment. Once you get your adjustments made and in the perfect spot then the cable is so short that your camera can't always reach where you need it, Apogee sells a longer cable for $40. I want as live of a sound as I can get so I am using my PA just as I would in a live show. The MiC Plus picks up well but will saturate and peak the gain before what I consider to be volume needed. I did back to back recordings with this using my iPhone 12 Pro connected and then using the iPhone Pro microphones built into the phone and I believe I got a better sound from the phone in the playback through my speakers. I really like this mic, but based on what I want to do and keeping everything simple, I believe I am going to return it. Sweetwater has a great return policy. I will say that this MiC is one of the simplest that I have used with no apps needed to run it. I am still searching for the highest quality sound for a live stream and still be easy to use and it appears the iPhone 12 is still better than everything else.
