Mackie MR8mk2 Reviews

Studio Monitor with 8" Driver and 1" Tweeter

Fitting squarely on your desktop, the Mackie MR8mk2 is the sort of monitor you want when working on delicate mixes. With it, you get an accurate response that helps you fine-tune your mix. In fact, the previous MR8 was a huge best seller, garnering tons of great reviews from home users and industry pros alike. Here, Mackie has outdone themselves, giving the MR8mk2 all-new high-end drivers so you get better low-frequency extension and those clear, articulate highs you want. With an ultra-low distortion 8" low-frequency driver, a high-output 1" soft-dome tweeter specially designed to keep your ears fatigue-free, and a range of inputs (XLR, TRS, RCA) to fit into nearly any setup imaginable, the Mackie MR8mk2 is a great pick for home, project, and pro studios all over.

Boring in its excellence!

By Scott May from Addison, Il on July 11, 2011 Music Background: Product specialist for Hammond Organ

YES, boring in its excellence, as in: Mackies quality NEVER changes. There's never any variance from "spot on". I had a specific purpose for these speakers, not what you'd think. We are going to use them to display our newest Organ, the SK1 at the NAMM show, where you cannot play loud. Our high-power Leslies made for the stage tend to get me in trouble with the floor managers!! The Mackies develop a full spectrum of sound at a close range without the need for high volume. They are doing EXACTLY what I ask of them, and are doing it perfectly. And thanks to Kevin Scott, "my guy" at Sweetwater for recommending them after I told him what I was looking for!

Excellent Monitors

Very happy with this purchase. These MR8mk2 monitors are big, punchy, and sound great in our studio.

TOO HOT TO HANDLE !

By Christian Jansen from Singapore on October 2, 2011 Music Background: Hobbyist

MY 1st pair of Mackie Monitors since I heard their Original HR824 in the 90's.... via the Track " Shadows : Apache " . These Mk2 has a very strong bass presence...via near-field in my bedroom. The Mid range seems to be overpower by the lower frequency .My settings was 0 for the Low Feq. filter. I haven't tried them on my Mopads yet..... My Mk2 are place on Soundking stands via spikes at the base on a Rug. I'm playing back at maybe only 20% on its Amp Power... I always use Pop Tracks to test its Playback color " Michael Bolton / Agnez Monica : Said I love you But I Lied ".... Warm Vocals on these Mk2. When you do try to Mixed your DAW tracks it can be Heavy on Bass... I suggest trying to play a normal Cd track without Eq via itunes to detect its Feq. color. Pop tracks with Vocals would be good, The fine details in Highs are clear though the mid range seems laid back when low & high strings are playback.... " Depeche Mode : Home ". The Mk2 are maybe better off as mid-field monitors or wider bedroom studios... Perhaps your Ears are your Best Judge! Cheers.

Mackie MR8mk2 outstanding sounding monitors!

Just picked up the MR8mk2's to replace my KRK's and had no idea what to expect! Let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised with the Mackie's.

I use several high-end monitors in my studio as I like to listen on different speakers to my mixes & masters. My main mixing monitors are my Genelec' 1030's with sub and they are amazing monitors but I have to say the Mackie's come darn close.

This is a huge statement coming form a die hard Genelec guy like me. The Mackie's might not be quite as detailed as the Genelec's but the highs, mids, and lows are crisp, tight, punchy and clean.

Another thing is the incredible powerful / full sound that comes from these monitors blows me away! Amazing for the price.

I would give them a 5 if the ports were in the front so they get a very positive 4.5 from me.

Great Monitor Big Sound Low Price

By Kevin W. Maness from United States on November 8, 2011 Music Background: Songwriter, Engineer, Musician

My only complaint is the low end frequency filter is pushed in on 1 monitor, but since it is set on normal, I haven't tried to fix it, since the monitor itself is working. When I get time I may try to fix it. That is why I deducted 1 point. Big sound for the price.

The Quality that I have come to expect from Mackie

By Re` Read from Arizona on September 6, 2011 Music Background: Hobbyist-Engineer-Musician- IT Tech by Trade

My Event 20/20 bas finally failed after 15 years use.
I had tried a pair of M-Audio BX5a Deluxe, but one of them died after only 3 days use.
I already had a bad experience with the standard BX5a’s and the new version of the Event 20/20 bas are up near the FOCAL CMS50’s price. I could not justify this cost for my simple project studio. I took a gamble on the Mackie Mr8 mkII’s.
I have used Mackie Mixers etc, and these Monitors are not only of the same excellent quality that I have come to expect from Mackie, but they are also of a true reference quality (Very Flat and True). A big sweet spot! If Focal’s are out of your price range. These are a great alternative in my opinion.
