Bang for the Buck!

By Ken Booker from Houston, TX on June 22, 2023

I already owned an MG12XU, which I am using with my live set up. When my old Mackie mixer was stolen, I needed something basic, quick and inexpensive. I really liked the MG12XU, but I didn't need the USB capabilities, so I ordered an MG10. I'm very happy I did, it's perfect for my at-home monitoring needs. How can you complain when it's that inexpensive, is quiet, sounds great?

Yamaha MG 10 mixer

This mixer works great! Easy to figure out as well!

Super clean and transparent.

By Kelly Keyser from WENTZVILLE, MO on April 2, 2023

I'm using this to manage the mains output of my audio setup. There is zero hiss even at high output levels. No clipping at all. I couldn't ask for more in a small mixer.

Great Mixer

Very nice and durable mixer. I'm a dj and it's everything I need and more!

Great mixer and even great as a basic mic pre

By Larry C from Midwest on January 16, 2022

I utilize the MG10 as a basic mic pre for my Shure SM7B mic. It works great as getting excellent level out of the SM7B and Shure SM57's. I've always considered the mic pre's in the Yamaha boards to be great sounding, quality designed. I take the output from the MG10 mains directly (inputs 1 and 2 panned hard left and right) into either the Presonus StudioLive 32R or into the Presonus ioStation 24c. The level is plenty and the sound quality is just what is needed for my home studio needs. Very effective pre amplification, especially when getting great sounding, proper levels out of low output microphones.

Great

Clean sound

By Bob Cole from Timbo, AR on April 14, 2021 Music Background: Semi professional

I own a larger Yamaha mixer so I knew I wanted to get Yamaha when I got a smaller mixer for home use. This one does all I need and it has a very clean sound. The 3 band eq makes it easy to dial in the sound I'm looking for. I don't like having a power converter brick; it'd be a lot better if the power supply was built in the unit. But with the smaller size maybe that's not an option.

YAMAHA MG10...No FX , No USB , Nothing I do not need.

By "Art" from "Earth" on February 27, 2021 Music Background: Professional Musician 10 yrs. +

I had a "sweet" interface (Presonus audiobox USB96 ) .
I wanted to add FX , but ...where , why and which FX ?
I wanted the best MIXER for maintaining the transparency of USB96's class A pre-amps , given I am playing "all" of the instruments as well as providing vocals plus composing/producing , I knew it was going to be difficult unless I had a way to take inspiration from the creator and re-Create it as an inspirational interpretation of what may be "nothing or something" with as little effort as necessary. I don't want to allow myself any burden of thought , any distraction or any inconvenience that could cause interruption to "The Creative Process" or inhibit "Capturing the Inspiration" or "allowing me anything but the highest quality" to hear if the idea was as ridiculous as it sounds, and that it was "butchered" and "ruined" by nobody but myself . I never "thought of it as work" to be in a band....Now , I am "The Band" and the MG10 works to help me "Keep it Fun" as well as
a "Fruitful Endeavor"...in progressing , and improving both as an Artist and Engineer. The "Art of Making Smart choices" ..... "Yamaha , I've Trusted in them over many years for Excellent Quality and Reliability"- And , smart is my YAMAHA MG10....

Mixer for electronic musicians

By B on June 28, 2020

This is a great mixer for use with electronics that have rca outputs. Like most samplers for instance. The MG10 has two seperate stereo rca inputs plus a third stereo input for 1/4 inch jacks that can be used as an effects loop return. If there is a need for more rca inputs you could use a Rolls stereo mini mixer that has 4 inputs and 1 output to plug into one of the MG10's rca inputs. The first 4 mono inputs receive both 1/4 inch jacks and xlr. The compressor on those channels work well. For studio uses, a 1/4 inch trs to rca cable can be used as a main out from the phones output. Nice subtle amount of turning resistance of the knobs. Overall, good design and sound.

's are really

By Barney from Eastern NC on February 2, 2020 Music Background: Stage performer, studio musician/engineer/producer.

I feed one line (Left Channel) to the FOH system which comes from the Yamaha mixer. This carries my lead mic, harmony mic, two vocal processors plus one for my Hammond SK1 and another for my Roland 88 key piano. The right channel feeds my on stage personal monitor.
The mixer has plenty of headroom and the EQ's are really on target. Should have done this years ago.

So far this has been a much better mixer then the MG10XU I have been able to adjust gains I have it hooked to a BOSS ve-20 vocal processor I use it to get rid of my hiss with a mogami gold 6 ft patch cable in line I have also noticed that the 2 band EQ.on 5/6 Gives a natural sound to symbols and drums even through the BOSS my vocals are clean and clear so far this is a ***** star mixer hands down. And worthy of any Studio enthusiast who serious about their vocals and there recordings

MG10 ROCKS

By Tell it like it is from USA on October 30, 2018 Music Background: SINGER 40 YEARS+

Back was overheated on the MG10XU squeal through recordings and when you bring up gains do to the pitch shift none as effect 24 low audio gain if you truly need effects then get a separate effects unit and get THE MG10 youl thank me for it and spend for the extra coverage 2 years will go by before you know it

This BLOWS AWAY THE MG10XU

By Tell it like it is from USA on October 28, 2018 Music Background: 40 years +

No more squealing in recordings no more overheating no more not being able to turn up Gaines no more low audio on vocals listen to me Yamaha scrap the MG10XU and put the D-pre in the mg82cx and add variable ox sends in it and the most important thing please lose the pitch shift it only causes problems squeals in recordings do to bleed through the circuit even with effects off no more number 24 on Yamaha mixers

Great Mixer!

By Sweetwater Customer from Chambersburg, PA on April 21, 2018 Music Background: Professional Solo Musician and Performer

I needed an inexpensive multi-input mixer to accomplish latency-free monitoring for home recording projects and everything about this mixer (price, layout, function) lined up with what I was looking for. Small footprint, (surprisingly!) quiet preamps, just enough versatility in features to do everything that I need them to do (and more, for future, live performance needs). The 'big brother' unit to the MG10 (MG10XU) has built in effects, which are very convenient if you are interested in those features, especially if you're going to use these mixers in a live setting. For only $45 more, I can see how having those effects onboard would be an advantage. They would effectively take the place of additional outboard gear. For me, I am 'voice and guitar' and do not perform or record with non-ambient affects, so, I did not need that additional feature. I use an Element 24 interface, so I did not need a USB connection feature, but, you get that, as well, with the MG10XU. The color coding of the board makes it easy to find and adjust things quickly and lends to the aesthetics. Build quality is excellent (even though the sides are plastic, the chassis and board is metal) and the design aesthetics are well-thought out, especially if you have any degree of experience with any type of mixer. At the same time, it is intuitive enough for someone just starting out. I also wanted xlr outs for the main out to monitors/powered speakers and not all smaller units in this price range have them. I haven't taken advantage of the built in compressors (on both models) but I am looking forward to trying those out in a live setting! Over-all, a straight-forward, 'clean', versatile mixer for small projects that makes my life as a home recordist a lot easier. The Owner's Manual is a a leaflet (as opposed to a small pamphlet or book) and contains enough information to get a novice engineer started and is worth reading through if you have no prior experience with mixers. Just be aware that both units - the MG10 and the MG10XU - are both described in the leaflet. I am very happy with this purchase and, as always, Sweetwater's fast shipping, careful packaging, and attention to customer service made the entire purchasing experience a positive one!!

Great Mixer

By John Clayton Read from Lone Willow Texas on June 22, 2016 Music Background: Quartet, Choral, Solo, Brass, Strings, Percussion. Every type of music.

This is exactly what I was looking for in a stage mixer for my stuff to be fed on to the Stage mixer and the House Mixer. I had tried a Behringer similar size and the power adapter broke on the first gig. Not good. I am BIG fan of all the hard work Yamaha engineers put into the product and quality is second to none.

Perfect For Multiple Keyboards

By Bill Pfaffenberger from Avon, Indiana on June 12, 2015 Music Background: Keyboard player for 55 years

I needed a mixer to feed up to three keyboards and a computer into my powered speaker. The Yamaha MG10 is doing an excellent job. It worked right out of the box. Its small size is perfect for moving gig to gig. It fits nicely into a 15" laptop computer bag which also provides a place for the power supply and hookup cables. I am able to sit it and my macbook pro on a small table beside my keyboard stack and easily control the sound without leaving my seat.

Surprisingly Good Preamps

By Dwight from Ga on March 30, 2023

Really nice compact mixer. The compression is super handy, and ensuring is laid out nicely. The mic preamps are really good. Surprisingly good. The only complaints I have are the power adapter is comically large, and the device itself heats up really fast. Not bad for dinnertime who does mostly digital eq-ing.

One hot box

By Sweetwater Customer from Usa on October 13, 2018 Music Background: Singer 40 + years

I purchased this mixer my first one have problems with a high pitch squeal in my headphones this seems to be caused Buy the pitch shift change the mic preamps are clean but my main concern on this mixer is how it gets hot in the back after half an hour to an hour use my mg82cx never did this also made by Yamaha II mixer I got of the same type has been 100% better and everything is working properly now I have not tested it on USB but with an analog setup it works fine so all I can say is it is a hit-and-miss with this mixer some work some don't it's up to you to have the unit hooked up and tested before making your purchase and one more thing please get the warranty extended you can get it up to 3 years as you can see with this mixer the mg10 you just may need it

Flexible Headphone Amplifier

By Marc Magathan on April 27, 2017

Using a stereo breakout adapter this unit makes a great headphone amplifier. I use it when watching TV, and it is a very creative tool to really customize the sound you are listening to.
A small mixer like this gives EQ options and if need be a compressor option as well.
More flexible than a regular headphone amp with just HI-LO EQ.

Pretty good for the price

By Sweetwater Customer on February 17, 2017 Music Background: Rock,Metal,Progressive

For a 5 person band set up I do wish I had gotten the next step up sometimes but this usually get the job done. Wonderful for 1-3 person sound set ups, learning curve was very shallow. This mixer has greatly improved my full band recording set up/work flow

Great for Multi-Use

By Danny from Kansas City on September 21, 2016 Music Background: professional musician

My initial purchase was as to add channels to an existing PA that I was borrowing. The PA in question didn't have phantom power which is a must for the mics that I am using. In addition, I've been plugging in via a direct box multiple instruments. Everything sounds great and the unit is extremely simple to use.

Since then, I'm starting to branch out and purchase my own powered speakers and monitors. This unit has worked great for that use as well. Simple and intuitive.

My one caveat is the same with all small mixers. It claims 10 channels, but I only really get 7 as the last 3 count double. Also, I would have liked to have more preamps and XLR inputs but retain the small board size. Yes, I could have bought more mixer and gotten those things, but not without sacrificing size. And believe me, on a crowded stage floor SIZE MATTERS!

Still, great product. If you are up in the air about two mixers, get this one. You won't be disappointed.

Also, buy from Sweetwater. They are amazing at service and shipping. Better than any other company I've ever worked for or with.

Excellent line of mixers!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 25, 2015

Really good mixer for how much I spent. Perfect for keyboardist and live performing. Now I can run all my stuff through my effects processors at the same time if need be. Also, the option to mount it on a mic stand is definitely a big plus. Though, I wish it had two auxiliary send outputs instead of just one.

Has Features That Make a Difference

By Robert H from AL on June 24, 2015 Music Background: Active Pro

I use this live only, for mixing percussion and then feeding the resulting mix to both the main PA and to my personal monitor. It has three features that make it stand out over its competition. First, and most importantly, the power supply connection is positive locking and can't be pulled or tugged out accidentally during a show. Second, it has a standby switch. Third, it includes options for both TS and XLR outs. It passes a good clean signal. I don't use the compression knobs, so can't speak about them. Honestly, I can't think of any cons with this unit, only pros. Solid Yamaha quality.

A backup for a $99 2004 MG10/2 still operating perfectly.

By John Poole from Ardmore, PA on March 15, 2019

The picture of the MG10 with the mysterious white cords coming from..... underneath? into inputs 9&10 I assume is to tell any potential buyer there are no dedicated effects jacks returns. The flimsy sheet (don't refer to that fold out sheet as the manual-please!) that came with the unit describes the upscale MG10 with usb and effects but would not be helpful to a novice buyer. There is no mention that one has to be careful to not have the Aux send knob active on the inputs being used for the aux returns so one can avoid feedback of the effects. I guess Yamaha had to use white cables coming from (the underside!) to make sure buyers knew that is where any effects returns are to be inserted. Kind of cheezy in my opinion. I haven't seen any white audio cables in quite a while. I have used Yamaha MG10/2 since 2004 with no problems. Somehow I doubt I'll get the same lengthy hassle free service from their MG10

Great Rugged Little Mixer

By Richard from FL on July 17, 2018 Music Background: Been playing guitar for about 50 years.

I had planned on buying a new Mackie to replace my old Mackie. However, there were several comments in some of the reviews about overheating and overall cheap feel to the new Mackie.

I did some searching on the Sweetwater site and found the Yamaha MG10. All of the reviews were positive and mine is too. It is easy to hook up, the power supply is heavy duty and the unit does not get hot. All of the controls are quiet and smooth operating. It is exactly what I needed.

And of course the service from Sweetwater is always fantastic, plus they give you a two-year warranty.

my 1st mixer

By sean from Gwinn, Mi on February 17, 2017

definitely a good choice for what i paid. works great

Not bad for low volume

By Carmen Cammarata on December 8, 2022

Cool little mixer with built-in effects. Unfortunately not the greatest option for small bands. It will begin to feedback going past noon as it has a weak preamp. Only with a decent mic will you maybe able to get by but intensity is limited. Can be used other ways but not so much for a basic setup in a small 3 piece band.

SORRY back to the store you go YAMAHA MG10XU

By Tell it like it is from USA on October 28, 2018 Music Background: 40 years + singer

Well sorry to say the MG10XU has been returned with its overheating high pitch squeal in recordings hard to EQ songs low mic audio and since I am a Yamaha Die Hard fan since first buying my MG82CX which serve me well for years but does not have D-pre I still wanted the one knob compressor so I took a chance on the MG10 No Effects but an excellent unit the first thing I noticed was the unit no longer felt overheated just a nice warm feeling when holding it the next thing I noticed was much more audio gain and now I could bring up the gain with a clean output even running through my boss ve-20 vocal processor and without it it may not have USB capability but from what I read in reviews the USB on the MG10XU cannot be used without Cubase so no effects can be used on the web I will now be testing the MG10 but from what I found so far this is far better then the unit with effects unless you need a pitch shift
