Unbeatable value in an Analog mixer.

By Roy on January 31, 2023 Music Background: Producer/Engineer

The LX7ii series is an exceptional value for the money.
No it isn't made of wood. it isn't made of 1/8" sheet metal, and it doesn't have brushed aluminum knobs and faders.. No it isn't an SSL, API, or Neve.
However, for 1/10th the cost, it gives 98% of the sound and 80% of the features of those aforementioned premium brands.
Sure the EQ is a little more surgical than a typical 4 band eq, and yes it can sound harsh if you don't know how to use an EQ. It can produce clear and transparent mixes when used properly.
The preamps are clean, and not meant to be driven. If you want warm preamps you can drive, you can expect to pay 2x the price of this mixer for a single Manley or Neve preamp channel. So, complaining about "lack of warmth" is just rubbish, one doesn't overdrive the mixer's preamps, that's what expensive outboard is for.
Bottom line, with outboard, and a good engineering skills, it can easily produce professional results, and the functionality and routing simply cannot be beat at this price point.

Excellent board for the price. 6 aux, 4 sub groups. Good EQ.

I've never heard anyone tall about this mixer like this. Plastic, sure. You get what you pay for. It doesnt just exude cheapness though. And the eq is very useable. It's even, transparent? It works though. I used one as a nice interconnect/adapter/volume-control and it worked well. I even tried it between tape-out and live-in to draw. Worked well as a final, subtle step. I mostly used the faders for a clean sound.

Okay but not the best.

This mixer is reliable and will work for a long time. However, the sound quality isn't anything to brag about, the EQ knobs don't do much and overall the product feels very cheap. It works but not very well. You're better off buying a used behringer or yamaha mixer.
