My New Gibson Les Paul Standard

By Richard Gilland from Tacoma Washington on November 30, 2023 Music Background: Playing guitar since I was 16 years old

Thus guitar was delivered in perfect condition. It is a Demo with two blemishes and one scratch. I cannot find any of them. Plek Pro setup makes this guitars playability perfect.
I would like to thank Bradon my sales engineer he was very helpful. He said it might take two weeks to deliver because of the plek pro setup
It got here in two days. An almost life long dream come true.
Thank You Sweetwater

My Dream Guitar

By Donovan from Texas on August 18, 2023 Music Background: Amateur Hobby

Back in the early 80s I bought my first guitar, a '68 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. I knew that my "dream" guitar collection was a Les Paul Custom Black Beauty and a 60s Gibson Les Paul Standard in a sunburst other than the cherry sunburst that EVERYONE had. I stopped playing for 34+ years after joining special operations. I decided early this year that I wanted and needed to start playing again as therapy in addition to enjoyment. I had stupidly sold my '68 Custom when I joined the military. I couldn't afford a new Gibson Les Paul Custom Ebony living on a military disability pension. So I bought a new Epiphone Les Paul Custom Ebony a few months ago. It's a very nice guitar. But I still wanted that 60s Les Paul Standard. I was able to buy my dream guitar last week from Sweetwater. I purchased the 60s Les Paul Standard in the awesome Bourbon Burst color. It has that wonderful 60s SlimTaper neck PLUS Gibson Pleks the neck as part of the manufacturing process. My Bourbon Burst isn't just my dream guitar, but that SlimTaper neck that was Pleked at the factory, it PLAYS LIKE A DREAM GUITAR.
I absolutely love this guitar. I am so thankful to Michael Saulnier and Sweetwater for making a dream come true.

Vintage Goodness!

By Max from USA on July 3, 2023

Since I was a young teenager, I have always loved Rock & Roll music. I was drawn by the screams of electric guitars and the unforgettable riffs that filled the airwaves on the radio and on vinyl records. I've always wanted a Gibson Les Paul guitar after my brother let me play his. It was instant magic. I listened to many demos and read the reviews on the various Gibson models and chose the Les Paul 60's Standard in Bourbon Burst. When I opened the case, I was immediately stunned by this gorgeous beauty! The grain takes on 3D appearance as you turn the guitar and let the light sweep across the surface. It's as if the grain has depth to it and the colors are truly magnificent.
The sound that the guitar makes is remarkable, from bright and clean to crunchy grunge. The leads on this guitar have that traditional scream that Rock music is famous for. I've never been so happy to own such a revered instrument like a Gibson Les Paul. What I also love is that it's made right here at home in America, rich with Rock & Roll history as well as Jazz & Rhythm and Blues. Ahhh, so tasty!!!
I highly recommend this guitar to any musician that is serious about obtaining the legendary sound of Gibson Les Paul guitar. Let me tell you, this guitar hits the sweet spot all around! I can't say it enough.

Dan worked with me to an extremely low price on this guitar. Without his help I wouldn't have been able to purchase it. He has helped me in the past to purchase a Sire Larry Carlton. I appreciate everything he has done for me. He is a great asset to Sweetwater. Thanks again Dan for your help.

Real Les Paul

By Alex Cruz from Indian Trail, NC on May 24, 2023

First off I am a new player and have experimented with a couple different style guitars. Everyone has told me the guitar will pick you. I have always loved the look of single cut guitars so after some research I purchased an Epiphone 1959 Les Paul. It is a very nice guitar and I had it for about almost 2 years. After some conversation with my guitar teacher I decided to buy a Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's. Although the epi 1959 neck was comfortable, I prefer the slim taper for lower fret comfort. I must say even though epi 1959 is a nice guitar, the Gibson is so much better. From the pleked fretboard down to the feel and sound. It's just on another level and not even close. It's just so easy to play and not a bad note on the neck. If you have the money just get one. The prices just keep going up so pay now or pay more later.

This my first Gibson ever I've been playing for ten years and always wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard and now I have one. When I opened up the case it literally took my breath away,I never seen such a beautiful guitar in my life, and when I plugged it into my 25W Orange amp all I can really say is WOW!!! No fret buzz it is set up beautifully, and the action is absolutely buttery,if your thinking of getting a Les Paul Standard don't hesitate you will not be disappointed like to give a big shout out to my sales engineer Matt Suber ext 3964 for making it all possible and I will be stopping at Sweetwater I've been there before and it's first class all the way thank you Sweetwater P.S. Matt Suber tune yours down half step down me and you gonna do some Detroit Rock City

My gaze took me other places for many years after being in love with Les Paul's in my younger days. I never was able to own a USA made one then. I had a craving for one now that I had the means and couldn't shake it. I had trouble deciding between iced tea and bourbon. This one kinda crossed into both a bit with the hues in the finish so I picked it out. It arrived and MAN.. those photos didn't do it justice!! I'm enamored over this guitar. It looks and plays amazing. It sounds amazing from chimey cleans to even high gain, the pickups have an awesome texture to them. Thanks to my sales rep Peter Turner for always taking care of me, you're the best!!

Les Paul 60’s

By Bruce McDonsld from Melbourne Florida on February 6, 2023

Well holy cow it's a Les Paul and everything you would hope for in a Les Paul. I've owned Les Paul's before from the 70's that just didn't work right. Gibson seems to be really on their game with this model. I'm not a guitar pro but the factory setup was good, neck relief pickup height and intonation were really close with only minor adjustments required. Sustain is excellent. Fit and finish are first class with not a blemish anywhere. The audio taper pots are right on. Up to about 7 its pretty clean, beyond that it gets crunchy at even low amp volume. The Bourbon burst doesn't come with a AAA flame maple top but if you watch SweetWater's inventory closely you can find one that has the AAA top like the one I scored. It took about 3 months of watching every day. Sweetwater is good about delivering the guitar and serial number that you see in their photos. No bait and switch here. The slim taper neck is a definite upgrade over the older models. I think this is the fourth guitar I have purchased from Sweetwater and my man Loui. These guys are straight up and if you have a problem they don't ask too many questions they just fix it. I know if I ever buy another guitar it will be from Loui at Sweetwater. I wish I was getting paid for this gushing review but it's the truth and if you are looking for a guitar and afraid of buying online, call my man Loui and get out your credit card. You won't be sorry.

Lester Standard 60s Bourbon

By Carlos Prieto from Brooklyn, NY on October 7, 2022 Music Background: Musician, producer

I'll have a crack at it, although words fall short to describe how outstanding this instrument is.

First off, thanks to my sales engineer Abraham Sanchez for making the purchase of anything, specially valuable instruments, a hassle-free experience. I really don't have to worry about much. Abraham has sorted me out with three amazing guitars up to today (Butterscotch Ash Tele, Martin D18, 60s Les Paul Standard), and they won't be the last ones. Rest assured I will come back every single time, period.

Now for the Lester. Wow. I have always been a Strat guy, looking up to Les Pauls as "that" mysterious and unobtainable holy grail. Well, now that I was able to finally pull the trigger on one, I could not be happier. What I received exceeded my expectations.

Fortunately I had no close experience with that dark period where Gibson was manufacturing Swiss-cheese bodies, questionable features to get your instrument in tune, endless possibilities in electronically combining humbuckers (resulting in dampening the essence of what the legend speaks of), or simply unreliable, hit-or-miss QC in their production line. Once I realized Gibson was back, I knew I had to get one.

This guitar is hefty, boasts a massive, sustained tone with stock pickups, and the folks at Sweetwater went the extra mile to hand it over with perfect playability, intonation, and overall mojo for my playing style. Thank you Sweetwater, thank you Gibson.

The action on this instrument is a joy to play - low with little buzz, making the fretboard feel like butter.

Looks amazing, would have loved a AAA top, but not a deal-breaker.

As others, I was afraid of the neck being too slim, but when I held it I was relieved it still had girth. Perfect compromise between sleek and shreddy, and fitting comfortable in your hand (at least mine!).

Pots travel smoothly - not to sound cliche but really, 1 sounds like 1, 10 sounds huge and open (well, maybe 1 doesn't yet quite chant, it starts more around 2…but the pot is really dynamic!).

Sturdy Grover tuners. Does this company still offer a lifetime warranty?

Complete case candy including adjustment multi-tool, cloth, and even a baby picture of the guitar at Gibson's bench.

Five stars, no regrets. Get one yourself and get ready to rock n'roll.

BEAUTIFUL GUITAR, OUTSTANDING SHOPPING EXPERIENCE!

By Sweetwater Customer from Florida on September 20, 2022

After shopping around and finding a great deal on a new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's, I advised the salesperson I wanted to call Sweetwater first to see if they could do better. I had never purchased a guitar online as I was concerned with buying one I had not seen in person. I also had concerns with the shipping process, possible damage, etc...

I called Sweetwater and spoke with Sales Engineer Andrew Keech. While he was unable to beat the competitor's price, he was able to match it. Andrew helped me choose the specific guitar I wanted, even providing photos of some that did not appear on the website. One of best things about Sweetwater is you get to pick the exact guitar by serial number that they send to you.

The entire buying process was flawless. My guitar arrived when Andrew said it would. I heard the delivery truck outside and got to the door just in time to see the delivery person scan and then drop the box (with a thud) in my driveway. No worries though as they pack these things so good it did not have even a scratch. I would have zero hesitation in buying a guitar online from Sweetwater in the future.

Almost forgot to give my thoughts on the guitar. What can I say - it's a Gibson Les Paul. They are absolutely the best!

Should be illegal…

By Rich S from BRADENTON, FL on May 16, 2022

…for a guitar to sound this good and play so easily. I'm actually blown away. I was expecting a great sounding guitar, but words can not describe it. Read someone else's review who can actually put it into words because other than "perfect", I just don't have the vocabulary.

And about Sweetwater:

The first guitar they sent me was broken during shipping. I opened the double box and inside the case was a snapped headstock courtesy of the gorillas at FedEx. I was unbelievably disappointed. I called Sweetwater and they sent me a replacement of my choosing the exact same day, overnight, and I had it the next day. Amazing, above and beyond customer service!

No more Amazon, no more GC. Everything I buy now comes for Sweetwater…period, end of story.

Hands down the best guitar I've ever owned!

By Michael Miller from Louisiana on April 16, 2022 Music Background: Classic Rock and Blues

I've had what I guess is the typical history with Gibson Les Paul's over the years: they've ranged everywhere between being a total piece of crap, a Custom no less, that refused to stay in tune (from a long time ago) to a very nice, but heavy, tone monster, a Traditional Goldtop. Before buying this guitar I bought a Studio T which played nicely but it was just missing something. When this opportunity came up, I jumped on it and I am certainly glad that I did! My sales engineer, Matthew Langston, was the man with the plan and he got this baby to me pronto. What I got was hands down the best guitar I've ever owned! The setup was perfect, the guitar has good balance and is not too heavy... but the tone!!! OMG! This baby not only plays like butter but sounds like what I've always believed a Les Paul should sound like. The harmonics I can get are unreal! It makes picking up the guitar and playing a pure pleasure! Thank you, Matthew and Sweetwater!

Looks Beautiful, Sounds Great

By Robert Malone from Arnold, MD on April 6, 2022

This guitar arrived intact, as expected, thanks to the excellent shipping packaging design by Sweetwater. Trying it out, initially, the action was set a bit high, and the G string sounded very dull. After replacing the stock strings with new Gibson Les Paul strings, and lowering the action to the recommended factory spec (6/64th - 4/64th), the playability of the guitar, for me, is perfect.
Comparing this to my Gibson Les Paul Studio, it seems to have a deeper, bassier sound, which I like very much. I never use any distortion pedals. I play clean, mostly jazz and blues, through a Twin Reverb. I'm glad it doesn't have the horrible sounding split coil feature like on the LP Studio. I say keep it pure and simple. I have to relearn my amp EQ settings for this guitar, since I was always using a more EQ bass boost to tame the bright tones of my Fender Strat Ultra and Fender Tele Ultra.
The only modification I am going to make on this guitar is to replace the stock Grover Tuners with the Grover 502C Roto-Grip Locking Tuners.
Special thanks to Rob Kramer for all of his help, and the Sweetwater team for furnishing me another gorgeous, high quality instrument.

It's about time

By John Quattrocchi from Verona, NJ on March 31, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate

Been playing for 30 years, am 59 now. Been eyeing a Les Paul for all that time. It's about time and this is it. Was in a local shop, saw one of these and was inspired, but set it aside to mull it over. My Sweetwater rep, Matt Subers rings me as I'm walking to my truck in the parking lot, to check in on things. One thing leads to another, and yep, all sorted out with a beautiful bourbon finish 60's Les Paul.

Basics - of course, Sweetwater is the best. The guitar is stellar. I cannot find a single imperfection. Was in tune when I opened it, other than G string slighly flat. Fret work is PLEK'd and terrific. Action is low and fast. Neck feels great. Pots/controls are smooth as silk, tuners too.

Played for 30 mins through my Mesa Boogie MarkV:25 and blown away - the sound is WELL beyond anything I anticipated. I'll have to play it side-by-side with my ES-335 next.

So, bottom line, you should open a Sweetwater card with the 36 mos 0% interest and order one of these.

Best to you.

Burbon Burst Beauty

Been wanting a real Les Paul for many years. After exhausting research, I finally decided on the Standard 60's In Bourbon Burst. I cannot put this thing down. I'm a rock/metal guy, and this guitar does it perfect. Cleans up really nice too. I love the slim taper neck, fretting chords & walking up and down is effortless. I also love the non weight-relieved body, just a big healthy chunk of mahogany, it is - quite simply - what makes a true Les Paul! My only complaint is I should have done this sooner! Thanks Sweetwater!

Sounds great. Plays great. Such a variety of tones. Never owned a Gibson before - always played Fenders and vintage G&Ls. But this guitar is such a joy to play that I'm wondering why it's taken me so long to warm up to the idea. Next guitar? I'm thinking a Gibson hollow-body... Oh, as always my Sweetwater rep pointed me in the right direction. Much appreciated!

Thank you Jeff for sending the guitar, I received it in one day. Always great service at Sweetwater. I've bought several guitars from Jeff and he always treats me right on price, personal service, and most of all he appreciates my business. He always earns his pay. Great advice if he thinks there's a better option other than what your looking at. I appreciate that. Now the guitar, what a great musical instrument, Gibson is making changes that benefit the musician, no more push pull pots, no weight relief, and top notch hand wired electronics. The finish is absolutely stunning. Gibson is going in the right direction. You can tell quality control is way up. Thanks again for the great service and great guitar! John S

I can see why this is the highest rated electric guitar on Sweetwater

By Sweetwater Customer on December 18, 2021

I was curious about one of these when reading all the reviews on this on Sweetwater, so I went to my local music store to try one out. Probably the most comfortable LP I have ever played, and that is saying a lot considering I personally am not a huge fan of LPs. The action on this thing was nice and low, the skinnier neck compared to the 50s version just felt so much better in my hands and helps when playing for speed. The 60s version also feels like it is a couple pounds lighter, which makes all the difference in the world when playing live as it is not a strain on your back and shoulders. If you have the cash, I recommend this LP over the 50s LP anyday.

It’s perfect

By Alex from Georgia on November 17, 2021

For a classic style instrument, it's an absolute monster. The way it resonates with even simple strumming is beyond belief, it feels like it'll rattle your fillings out if you have them. You can tell it's special as soon as you take it out the box, open the case and sit it in your lap. Even the case, which was made in Costa Rica, just exemplifies quality and durability. Gibson also has fixed the issue with the pick guard damaging the finish by now adding a felt washer where it touch's the body. I've already begun adding my own touch to the guitar by adding Schaller strap locks and soon as they come in, Grover keystone locking tuners to really set it apart.

Best Guitar I Own

By Clint J. on October 22, 2021

This guitar is stunning in person. It literally looked like a piece of art when I first opened the case. Playing it just felt so natural too. The slimmer profile of the neck is extremely comfortable. From the looks, to how it plays/sounds, to the overall craftsmanship, this Les Paul is top notch. I haven't been able to put it down. The Bourbon Burst has nice deep color, and the figured maple top is insane. Definitely an eye-catcher. And this puppy is built to last. If you are considering getting one, do not hesitate.

Also, shout-out to my Sales Engineer Parker. He helped make this purchase smooth and enjoyable. I would recommend him to anybody. Thanks again!

Found the one

By Sweetwater Customer on October 8, 2021

My impressions after playing it for the first night of owning it:

The pictures don't show the flame pattern on the top unless it's at the perfect angle. So if you're waiting around for one based on the pictures, the photos don't always capture the flames, if at all. I went with the only sub-9lber of the four options and it didn't appear to have any flames, but in person you can see the flames.

The guitar plays way better than my Fender Classic 50s Players strat. Completely different price range though, so it's not a fair comparison. It's amazing that this Gibson neck plays faster than my other guitars, and it's far easier to do thumb chords on than "soft v" neck strat, and WAY easier than a C shaped Strat.

First thing I played was the "It Might Get Loud" version of Ramble On. As a Fender guy, the toggle switch is a gamechanger for dynamics, this is a tool I haven't had before. Then I played Over the Hills and Far Away (the way he plays it live with the Les Paul), and for some reason it's like 10x easier and just sounds RIGHT on a Les Paul. The first time I've ever pulled it off correctly was the moment I played it for the first time on this guitar.

Great guitar!

By Edward Taylor from San Marcos, CA on October 5, 2021 Music Background: Former Working Professional

After a lifetime of Fenders, I bought myself this LP for my 65th. And I have to say I love it. FTR, as a former working professional, I've played a good number of LP's of all vintages. I've even had the pleasure of meeting and photographing the man himself, (charming fellow). The feel, quality and sound out of this guitar is sublime. Hard to imagine I waited this long. A very grateful thanks to my SE, Matt Stockburger, who went above and beyond to help me find just the right instrument!

11lbs of WOW!

By Keith from Florida on September 29, 2021

After looking around a bit and comparing the different LP series, I settled on this one as my first Les Paul for a couple of reasons. First of all was the quality of the build in the Standard line. It's a birthday present to myself so I splurged a little. Secondly, the 60s neck profile feels amazing. And finally, the Bourbon Burst looks spectacular. This is an amazing guitar that has unbelievable clean tones and amazing crunchy tones with the dials up. As an intermediate player, it's more guitar than I needed, but I'm 1000% satisfied. \m/

Amazing Instrument!

By brian Balboni from ELKHORN, WI on September 23, 2021

I've owned the 60's Les Paul in Bourbon Burst for about a month. It's been a perfect experience so far. The sound is incredible. I tend to play through a Boss Katana at 5 watts when no one is home and 50 watts when the wife and kids are not in the house. The guitar's fat growl is consistent through all the notes on the fretboard. Speaking of the fretboard, I never really thought Plek'd frets would be that big a deal. However, I find that I can play riffs and runs on this guitar that I can't play on my other guitars, some of which are pretty nice. It's just a touch smoother on the fretboard and the extra consistency in the frets seems to make it a tough easier to play as I maneuver across notes and scales. I see a lot of comments on the weight and heft. It's pretty solid and you know its on your shoulder, but I play it standing 99% of the time, and I find it comfortable. It actually helps me on some faster riffs because the guitar doesn't swing around as much as a lighter instrument.
For context, I've been playing about 20 years and I own a Strat and a couple of D'Angelico deluxe guitars, all of which are wonderful instruments. This one is just a step above. It's worth the extra 1k if you can afford it.
I would be remiss not to mention Sweetwater's service in general and Grant Embury in particular. I buy from Sweetwater because I know they'll inspect and make sure the instrument is in top condition. And, Grant is both friendly in communication and diligent in always keeping me up to date.

By Robert from Denver, CO on September 14, 2021 Music Background: Prog and Power Metaller, played since 1975.

Review Time:
I've had Bourbadette for a two weeks now, and here are some thoughts:
Overall: Bourbadette is a Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s, with a Bourbon Burst finish. She is a hefty little lady, at 11 lb., 4oz.

Body: Two piece mahogany with matched maple top, no weight relief. Nice tight grain, and some 'flaming' under the right angle of light.

Neck: Three piece mahogany in 1960s flat 'slim taper' profile. The neck is fast and feels quite good to the hand. The fingerboard is rosewood, with 22 jumbo frets. There are no rough spots, or sharp fret edges.

Hardware: Bourbadette came with heavy duty Grover tuners which I replaced with Grover locking tuners. Gibson tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece. Large strap buttons.

Electronics: 61R and 61T pickups that are clear and provide a balanced, full sound. Traditional volume and tone pots, with the infamous, much loved Orange Drop capacitors. Pots produce a steady change in signal across the travel of the knobs. Standard three way selector switch.

Overall: This instrument is a joy to play, and I haven't picked up any of my others since she arrived. The weight doesn't bother me at all. The tone is sweet and full, conducive to screaming metal, or mellow blues playing. This may be the nicest guitar I have played in a very long time.

Major shoutout to Sweetwater for their customer service. I had initially placed an order for the same model in iced tea, only to find that in period between placing the order and it's completion that guitar was put of stock. A call to my sales engineer Andrew Plassman allowed me to substitute this exact guitar for the now out of stock instrument. The guitar arrived promptly 4 business days later in tune with itself about one whole step below standard tuning.

It’s a Les Paul!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 6, 2021

I've wanted a Les Paul since I was 13. However Gibson had altered them so much that they no longer seemed like a LP to me. That is what nail now! This the sounds, feels, and plays like the guitar I've always wanted. I love it and I can't quite playing it! Thanks to my salesmen Michael Duncan he has been helping with this purchase for several months now.

Love it

By Mike Ponsot from Quincy Il on June 24, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

Let me start off by saying I am very particular. I had been eyeing this particular guitar for several months and when they came back in stock I waited til one came up with a certain amount of flame in the top. This is a beautiful guitar fit and finish was perfect, it is truly a work of art. A couple things that I did find somewhat odd when I opened the case. First the selector switch knob was not installed and found it in the accessory compartment in the case. Once I installed it the switch was turned to roughly 45 degrees and not tight. Not a big issue but somewhat surprising. I also noticed the volume knob for the neck pickup protrudes noticeably higher than the other 3. Again others may not notice but Im picky. The action was set very high which I adjusted more to my style and now plays like butter. As others have mentioned the fret board was extremely dry but is also a quick fix. Would I buy again absolutely nothing there that could not be overcome easily.

By Billy from Hershey, PA on May 19, 2021 Music Background: Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Metal

I've been eyeing a Les Paul Standard since I was a kid learning on a cheap starter guitar. Years laters, I decided to buy it and WOW. I'm in love. Worth every penny. Never thought I'd buy Gibson again, but I've heard nothing but good things over the past year, as opposed to all the negative news from them in recent years. But this thing holds its own. The Bourbon Burst finish is beautiful and it sounds great. It needed a good set up, however that's to be expected. But once it was set-up, sounded flawless. I can't put this thing down. It sounds spectacular and feels great in your arms. I never had a problem with the polarizing Les Paul weight. This thing will be in my collection forever.

One sweet 2020 Gibson LP (bourbon burst)

By Wayne Wesner from Mount Laurel NJ on March 3, 2021 Music Background: Self taught guitarist

I grew up playing my uncles ebony LP, which I loved. I knew some day I had to have a Gibson. Started on an SG, which filled that Gibson hole in my life. I loved that guitar but got really into LP's recently and traded it for an EPI custom pro in silverburst. Made that guitar into a hot rod but knew I had to get another Gibson. After a lot of homework and convincing my wife of the need of new Gibson, I chose the 60's standard. Gibson knocked it out of the park. Fit and finish is amazing, the bourbon burst nitrocellulose paint was flawless and I'm a sucker for nickel hardware (I confirmed with Gibson that every piece of metal, ie, tuners, pickup ring mount screws, etc, is nickel). It has a deeper color than chrome which really compliments the AA flame maple cap and color/s (they're all beautiful). And the neck profile is rad. Super fast and easy to play. A HUGE recommendation is to have Sweetwater perform the setup. Best $... I've spent. Came with the measurements/setup dead nuts to what I asked for and the guitar was flawless even though they're handled by several people/stations before you purchase it. Luckily, I bought when I did. ...I highly recommend this guitar. The QC at Gibson has been sketchy in the past, but was spot on with this one. Great buy...

Bucket list buy!

By Ed from Atlanta, Georgia on February 12, 2021

I have always wanted a true Les Paul but never could make the decision to buy one. When the new standards came out, I watched the reviews closely and decided now was the time. Gibson finally got back to the foundation of what a true Les Paul for the purist should be with the 50s and 60s models. I landed on the 60s model based on my preferred neck style and pick-ups offered. I cant really put into words how happy I am with this guitar. Unboxing was an emotional experience, not to mention the first time I plugged it in and played it. Fit and finish is exceptional and the sound is a rich and full traditional Les Paul sound. At just over 9 lbs, it feels like a quality instrument and not a boat anchor as some describe the non-channeled models. I am not a professional musician by any stretch - but I play for myself and for peace of mind and this guitar makes me feel and sound better than I would with a different guitar - and I have a few others. One last note - I bought a demo model; what an incredible deal. ...the flaws noted (and shown in pictures magnified probably 25x) are literally unrecognizable in person. This looks, feels, and plays like a brand new guitar - untouched/unplayed. Thank you to my Sales Engineer Brian Loney for being a great partner and helping me find the right Les Paul for me and to Sweetwater for the unbelievable experience.

Great guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on January 19, 2021

I have a Telecaster and a Gibson 339. This Les Paul is now my favorite go to guitar. The 60's neck is perfect for me. All ranges are wonderful. Gibson is back. This is my second guitar purchase from Sweetwater and I can't say enough about their service. This is how a company should do business. Give sales engineer Bryan Leo a call for any of your needs. You won't be disappointed.

Finally.....

By Sweetwater Customer from IL on December 21, 2020

I have had Les Pauls over the past 15 years and was unsatisfied or just hated what I felt was a chunk of wood that Gibson put no effort into other than putting their name on it. My last was a 2011 Standard, the same price then as this 60s model is now. The neck on the 2011 was like a railroad tie, the Burstbuckers sounded horrid, and after replacing them with some SDs Pearly Gates, it sounded just as bad. I sold it cheap and moved on. After researching and reading several hundred reviews on this particular guitar, I grudgingly bit the bullet and decided to give Gibson another go. This is not remotely close to the Les Pauls I've had in the past! Everything I had read or viewed about this guitar is exactly what I expected, more than what I expected, honestly. It looks, plays and sounds like a Les Paul should. No weight reduction on this is very noticeable, which gives this baby some serious sustain! Way to go Gibson! I have to give Sweetwater props, being a first time customer. I had been burnt from a large online guitar store that is currently going to be out of business, (good riddance) so I was skeptical ordering this online. A buddy suggested Sweetwater as he has ordered several guitars from there with good experiences and advised the customer service was excellent. So I did it, and could not be more pleased. The guitar I received needs nothing, no adjustments anywhere.. Sweetwater offers to set it up they way you want for a few extra bucks, bridge adjustment, replacing nut, ect. I did not delve into that because I wanted to see what my money for just the guitar was gonna get me. Now I know. And now I finally have a Les Paul worthy of the name and the cost. This is guitar to keep, for sure. And I have Sweetwater to thank.

The LP I knew Gibson could make!

By Bodocki from Michigan on December 12, 2020 Music Background: 40 years hobbyist and gigging musician.

I swore I would never ever do it.. Ever!! Gibson had just broken my heart too many times over the last several years!! Then I saw it while browsing a local music store. Just staring at me.. I had heard they may be back but I didn't believe it.. Could it be? Well it wasn't going to play itself. I caved in and...All I can say is this was the best Gibson I've played in a very long time! So now I had a dilemma.. I wasn't crazy about the top but wow did this thing play and sound so sweet. Also the guitar was flawless.. None of the irregularities that Gibson has been famous for the last several years.. That being said, I was also not a fan of this particular chain store either.. I was just there with a friend killing time..

So I lamented several days over it.. Finally, I called my sales engineer at Sweetwater Paul Eckert and I explained to him what I was looking for. He said okay and it was almost like he was inside my head. He found exactly what I wanted after looking at several guitars along with a lot of patience on his end..

All I can say is the Sweet Water experience is impeccable! They are one of the best online purchasing experiences you can have.. They take customer service to a whole new level. I have bought several guitars from them over the years. I've also returned one and exchanged one with no hassles. So buying this guitar was worry free.

Now, the only question I have.. was that one I played a fluke? Welp, the simple answer is no.. It appears Gibson is back! I am astounded! This thing plays and sounds so fantastic.. I could not be happier! thanks so much to Paul Eckert, the staff and the Sweetwater experience! I am a forever customer! You guys rock!

This Les Paul 60s standard is highly recommended.. I liked the '50s as well but I prefer the slimmer neck..

Give the new Gibson a try you won't be disappointed! At least I wasn't..

What a Les Paul should feel like

By David Johnson from Alabama on November 24, 2020 Music Background: Novice

I had a LP Classic that just didn't feel right. Nothing wrong with it but it wasn't what I remember a LP was. I thought that was the way Gibson was now. I was wrong (thankfully) This is the Les Paul I grew up with. Sweetwater is one of the best buying experience I had buying a Guitar.
Thanks, Eric and crew

Big shout out to Jacob Leonhardt, he helped me to pick out my favorite one according to my very particular taste ( a lot of symmetrical flames, dark fretboard...) Exactly what I wanted

By Bernard Scott Appleton on November 22, 2020

I wanted to add to my collection of iconic guitars by including this icon from rock music history. However, I was hesitant about purchasing a Les Paul because of all the bad commentary on Youtube about the Gibson company in disarray and quality problems with some of their guitars. I went ahead with the purchase anyway hoping for the best. The guitar I got is beautiful and has not a single visible quality flaw, even after inspection with a magnifying glass. Alan and the other folks at Sweetwater gave me excellent service. They did a great job setting up the guitar and making a few custom adjustments for me. It plays like a dream, right out of the case, and sounds great.

I purchased my Les Paul Standard 60's Bourbon Burst earlier this year, 2020. Like many guitarists, I have always wanted a Les Paul, and finally had the opportunity and financial wherewithal to attain it. Since the moment I opened the case and saw this beauty, I have been in awe. This is a pure quality precision instrument. Not only is it beautiful and well made, it sounds incredible and is easy to play. It's expensive but worth the money. I love this guitar! Sweetwater is a very professional and well run business. I've bought five guitars from them and I am happy with all of them.

I HAVE A GIBSON LES PAUL AGAIN!!!

I was so happy to see the Les Paul Standard with no coil splitting and other nonsense that I just bought it and am very happy. A Gibson les Paul to me is what a Harley Davidson is to others. The guitar looks, feels and plays extremely well and Sweetwater is always great. All I need now is the Marshall amp to complete the set. Great Guitar!!!

2 weeks ago I ordered my new Bourbon Burst 60's AA top Les Paul. It was on a Thursday before my weekend off. I had made my decision to buy the guitar.
I gave Sean a call and we discussed what I was looking for.
Sean found two more in stock with better tops than what I was looking at. I decided on the one I liked most. I purchased the guitar and Sean said it would be delivered early the next week.
After some thought, I emailed him back and asked if there was any possibility he could over night the guitar so I could get it while I was home. Well, I got an email back and it was on it's way.
Shipped on Fri and in Atlanta on Sat a.m. wow!
I got my guitar on Sun as I had it delivered to Mom n Dads house. I was planning on visiting them for dinner. Everything worked out great. Had a great weekend off, a good visit with my parents and I got my new Les Paul.
My girlfriend said the look on my face when I opened the case was priceless. I felt like a kid at Christmas.
My thanks to Sean and ALL the team at Sweetwater for making this a pleasant buying experience as always. You guys are THE BEST!
So, now have 14 guitars in my collection. Each and every one has it's own uniqueness but, this new Les Paul is very special to me.
It plays so very well and smooth like a Les Paul should. This has been my dream guitar for several years. Now, I own it and i couldn't be happier with it.
I got a great deal as always and the financing I wanted plus the awesomeness of Sweetwater's great customer service.
If you're in the market for gear, this is the place to shop. Great prices, great deals and superb customer service.
Thank you Sweetwater!

This guitar is very classy, yet very rock and roll. Sounds like a Gibson should. The controls are basic. None of that push pull nonsense. The finish is stunning. The neck, binding, frets all feel silky smooth. Plays like a dream.
The Sweetwater setup was perfect. Thanks to my sales engineer Joe Schafer. Who is very knowledgeable and patient and takes the time to answer any questions I have about any product they sell. The guitar arrived in perfect shape. Not a scratch on it. Flawless.
I was reluctant to buy over the Internet after having to return two previous Gibson purchases to GC.
Buying this bucket list guitar from Sweetwater turned out to be the best guitar purchase experience ever. Thank you Joe and the crew at Sweetwater.

Awesome Sounding Guitar

By Ivan F Irizarry from VA on June 12, 2020 Music Background: I started with the Piano, as a very small child and in my teens I took up the Trumpet and French Horn. I fiddled with guitars over the years but got serious about the later in life.

I've been a musician for years but got serious about the guitar a couple of years ago. Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s - Bourbon Burst is not my 1st Gibson but it's my 1st Gibson Les Paul. My pockets are not very deep so I had to give this purchase alot of thought and deliberation. Additionally, I had to get my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, Taylor Perry involved in my decision making process because there are so many models, I was just overwhelmed. After some trial and error, my Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s arrived and I've been thrilled since. I just don't know why I waited so long, this guitar is a POWERHOUSE of tone and sustain. Its full body guitar sound required only half of the amplification that I used on other electric guitars and the deep and full tone is versatile and diverse. The Gibson Les Paul Standard provides a wide spectrum of tone and sound. I think this guitar is worth the money I paid and hopefully someday I will afford to buy another.

Simply Wow!

By chris walker from OMAK, WA on June 2, 2020

Just received my 1st Gibson LP. Couldn't be more thrilled with it! The action is great, the sound is incredible and I can say I'm thrilled with the purchase. I went over this baby top to bottom to QC, I've heard and read Gibson is good but misses the finer details. This baby looks great! Nick my sales engineer and i had a little trouble connecting due to time zones, but was prompt to answer every time. I'd heard Sweetwater had great customer service and I agree with that, nothing but impressed! Keep up the great work guys. I also had the nut replaced with a bone nut, great job there too, couldn't tell it had been touched. Ok, no more talk, got an awesome guitar wanting my attention!

Gibson Standard vs Studio

By Ross from MISSOURI on February 6, 2020

I have owned a few Gibson Les Paul Studios and always aspired to own a Standard. I love the Standard! It looks even better in person. Mine weighs 9.0 pounds and I would not want it to weigh anything over 9.0 pounds. I got a demo model with a very minor defect, it was totally worth the savings. The sound and tone is wonderfully complex and rich in texture. The Studio is a very good guitar, but the Standard is a notch above in sound and the fretwork and action were perfect out of the box.

If money is tight, you don't care about binding or your Les Paul saying, "Studio" on the head stock then save... and get the Les Paul Studio. If you can afford it and love the history of the Standard and the burst finish and want the slightly better pickups and craftsmanship then go for the Standard.

I Love It

By Tom Enny from Red Bank, NJ on January 6, 2020

My 1st Les Paul and man is it amazing. I love everything about this guitar. The look, the feel, the sound. Chris at Sweetwater is the best. Great guitar and great service, can't beat it.

Love it!

By Happy Camper on December 24, 2019

My years-long obsession with obtaining a Gibson Les Paul Standard is finally over! When I opened the box I was stunned! She was way more beautiful than SW's pics made her out to be. She even smelled like sugar and vanilla! I immediately put some 9s on her and took a few minutes to adjust her action. I played her unplugged for a few minutes as my amp warmed up. She felt so nice, so slinky and easy, the best-feeling action I had ever played on, and the anticipation became unbearable. It was time to go all the way! The big moment! Time to plug it in! Would it be everything I dreamed it would be? Or would it be an awkward and embarrassing experience that I could never tell my friends about! Well, if my wife would have walked in on me in those first few minutes of playing and saw the look I probably had on my face and heard the passionate sounds that guitar was making, she might have kicked us both outdoors! I gigged with her 3 nights later and it was like a dream come true. The example I received is absolutely awesome in action, tone, and aesthetics. The only flaws I found were a few tiny spots of paint that did not get scraped off the neck binding near the body on the bass side. They're so small I can't see them without putting on my reading glasses, and probably neither could the person at the factory scraping away on these things all day.

Art in your hands

I've been wanting a Gibson LP for a long time and it was so worth the wait to get this baby in my hands. The setup and shipping was fast and flawless. I ordered this with a custom setup on a Wednesday and was playing it on Saturday.

The finish is stunning. The sound and playability of this is incredible. I love the way the neck feels in my hand and everything I play sounds and feels a thousand percent better with this guitar. Sustain for days and bone-shaking tone.

I'm so happy I purchased this guitar and I'm really happy that I went through Sweetwater. It was a great overall experience and I felt very confident buying online.

This is a KEEPER!!

By David Andrews from Pfafftown, NC on November 23, 2019 Music Background: On this wonderful guitar journey

OK so I have yet to see a bad review of this guitar. After owning one for a little over a month now I understand why. This is a fine instrument. The 60 series has that slim fast neck without being too skinny. It just fits and it felt that way as soon as it was in my hands. Pickups pack plenty of punch and are sweet and clear when you want that tone as well. My advice to anyone on the fence about buying one is to go for it! No regrets here!! My engineer Michael Grebe spent a lot of time with me on this purchase and seemed genuinely happy to do so. He has been with Sweetwater a long time and he loves what he does and it shows. He helped me find "the one" with a top that I am absolutely in love with and gets compliment after compliment from everyone that sees it. He even helped me with shipping so that I could get it to a safe location while I wasn't home to receive it on the day it arrived. An absolute positive experience all the way around and Sweetwater and Michael have a customer in me for life! Thanks Michael and thanks Sweetwater!!

Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's - Bourbon Burst

By Sweetwater Customer from Earth on November 4, 2019 Music Background: 50 years of keeping the neighborhood entertained :)

First let me advise you that if you are considering doing business with Sweetwater, reach out to Dennis Konicki. He is truly a great guy and a very knowledgeable sales engineer. He will do everything he possibly can to make sure you are completely satisfied!

I've had this Les Paul 60's for several weeks now and put it through the paces. Its even been run by some professional musicians that only play Gibson Custom Shop and other very high end guitars...They are very impressed. It has certainly passed the test!!!

I would like to thank Sweetwater and especially my Sales Engineer, Dennis Konicki. His assistance, and the entire Sweetwater experience, have made me a very happy customer! During my initial conversation with Dennis, I let him know right up front that I was set upon purchasing a Gibson. These days, that being a possibly somewhat questionable move! It can be a controversial position, but Gibson is an American Icon, made in the USA, and that is important to me. I am familiar with the history of Gibson, both past and present. I get it that over the years there have been some pretty serious issues with quality control and business management. But, I also know that Gibson crafts some pretty fabulous instruments. It is the nature of the Gibson manufacturing process that each instrument will be somewhat unique. I advised Dennis that I was going to be a very picky customer and he didn't even blink! He stayed right with me throughout the process.
I have played Gibson guitars for nearly 50 years, and currently own a couple of beautiful Gibson acoustics. I realize that there are other brands that produce equally beautifully crafted instruments. However, for me there is nothing quite the same as the familiar feel of a Gibson in hand, and the astonishing music they can produce. Dennis worked with me for a few weeks to ultimately find a Las Paul Standard 60's that I love! It played and sounded wonderful right out of the box. However, after a Plek/Set-Up it's pretty darn perfect! The playability, tone and sustain are fabulous, and the Bourbon Burst finish is flawless! All the finish choices are beautiful making it a bit difficult to choose! If you are thinking of purchasing one of these Gibson Les Paul Original Collection models, don't hesitate...you will not be disappointed. I'm pretty sure that Gibson has found its way and is back! And, be sure to ask for Dennis Konicki when you contact Sweetwater!
Again, thank you Dennis for working through this process with me. This Les Paul is everything I was looking for!

Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s - Bourbon Burst

By Tim from Riverhead, NY on October 31, 2019

phenomenal recreation of the guitars from this period and dare I say probably even better with just a couple of modern tweaks. The fit and finish are prefect and the setup right out of the beautiful case was also spot on. Plays like butter and tone is amazing. Also have to mention that you will find it worth your while to get your sales engineer involved as they can make a good deal even better.

Les Paul stansard 60's Bourbon Burst

By pjones on October 7, 2019

I purchased this guitar a few weeks ago. Always wanted a Les Paul but never had one 'til now. I'm glad that I waited because I believe Gibson is better at quality control than in the past. This guitar is worth the price. I cannot find any imperfections or flaws. Unlike a SJ100 I purchased a couple years ago. A lot more money and a red label special edition to boot. There is a blemish in the finish. I did nothing about it because of the location. It was not easy to see unless holding the guitar. Not the case with my new Les Paul. Perfect everywhere. Beautiful heir loom type guitar.
I've had past experience with Sweetwater, and I am so pleased with every transaction. My first experience was done online with out any salesperson. I just put the guitar in the cart and made the purchase. Everything was fine. I even had the guitar the very next day. Later I did get a sales person involved. Chris Jenkins, my rep, seems to be a dedicated individual. He wants to please and work with his customer to give them that special treatment. Believe me it is to your advantage to get a salesperson involved in your purchase. They do make it worth while on getting what you want. I actually gave him my reasonable terms and he delivered with a little extra. So if you're on the fence about this guitar or Sweetwater I'm here to say this is the best choice.

Amazing Les Paul

Gibson really hit it out of the park with this one. Everything I expect a Les Paul to be. Head to toe, this guitar is flawless. The bourbon burst is spectacular. Before it arrived, I figured it would need a set-up. To my surprise, it didn't. Action was low and slinky without a hint of buzz anywhere, and was perfectly intonated.

Thank you to my sales engineer ,Chris Sonia, and Sweetwater. Great job, as always.

Highest Recommendation

By Keith V from San Antonio, TX on August 6, 2019

The perfect Les Paul. Construction, playability, tone/sound, attention to detail, all stellar. This is the sound of my 70s heroes. Unexpected surprise are the Burstbucker 61 pickups, they sound great. Have owned eight Gibson Les Pauls over the last 42 years. All were sold after eventually becoming dissatisfied with some particular feature or flaw. THIS guitar is going nowhere. Once again, it is perfect. This is not an overnight review. I purchased this guitar almost three months ago, and quite simply I cannot put it down.

A special shout out to Geoff Allen, who went above and beyond the call of duty to assist with a financing option which made my purchase possible. I also purchased the optional setup, and this is what put the guitar over the top. They tweaked everything, including giving the nut some attention. Result? This guitar has low action, with no fret/string buzz anywhere, and stays in tune, even after heavy bending on the G string. I highly recommend the... set up option. It is worth three times that amount.

One final thanks to Geoff Allen for all of his assistance, Sweetwater for providing such great customer service, and finally to Gibson for their return to excellence.

Great Service and GREAT Guitar

By Sean Kern from Boise, ID on July 1, 2019

After I picked out my guitar from the available serial numbers with pictures I got kinda sad cause it was immediately removed from the site. I understand why that would happen, but I wanted to look at it and drool all the same. But less than 12 hours later got an email from Sweetwater saying, "you probably want to show your friends and stare at" your guitar so here's the pictures we took. What a nice thought to have as a company to do for every customer. Then it shipped and I began the wait. Was supposed to show on a Tuesday. It got to the sorting facility the Saturday before and sat waiting for the weekdays. Hoped against hope that it would be delivered a day early on Monday. Hitting refresh repeatedly with all my soul focused on that outcome. As soon as the delivery date changed to Monday I received a text from Sweetwater saying it looked like I was getting my guitar today. What another nice service!

Then I opened it and fell in love. Wonderfully beautiful and well made guitar from Gibson for sure! But it was also perfectly inspected and setup by Sweetwater. Polished and inotated and the action was perfect. No polish globs or scratches and still smelled like the Gibson factory.

Thanks Sweetwater. A large corporation doesn't have to offer these little touches today, but you guys putting forth just that little extra effort really made the buying experience and the receipt of my... guitar that much sweeter!

Amazing Guitar, looks and plays like a dream

By Jake Himmel from Tallahassee, FL on October 26, 2022

I bought this guitar a few months back and it has become my #1. The instrument played okay out of the box and needed a very minimal setup to get it playing great, partially because I changed the string gauge to a 9.5 (Turbo Slinky). Took off the pickguard immediately to show off the flame top too.

Honestly, one of the best playing instruments I own, and it sounds great. Although it is a bit pricy, it is worth pulling the trigger if this is the Les Paul you are looking for. If you can time your purchase with one of Sweetwater's promotional financing periods (36 to 48 months) it makes pulling the trigger all that much easier.

Glad I didn't return it on receiving

By xiaohu fan fa from CA on December 13, 2019

Warning if you play acoustic before, prepare to embrace the weight difference.

For a moment I thought I'd return it cause it's "too **** heavy", and 'I can't breath'

Well after 2 weeks, now I can hardly feel it, partly because I play it sitting, partly because my body adjusted to the weight. Now I am more and more convinced I am a electric guitar guy, sounds thin and tiny when unpluged, once connect to the AMP, the explosive rocking power can blow off the roof.

Still new to electric guitar so reserve half star until I learn more about it's full potential.

Thanks my sale's person Rob Kramer and sweetwater, superb service as always

Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s

Just arrived. Without a scratch, Sweetwater seems to know how to pack items for shipping. Guitar I feel is noticeably a step up in quality and craftsmanship from the last few I have purchased. 60s neck is easy playing and not too thin as I thought it would be - which is a good thing. Guitar weighed in at 8lbs 13oz and felt perfect in weight and balance. Sounded fat and rich with gain and clean and full played without. Great purchase, Ed from Sweetwater was great. Why not a 5? Thought fretboard looked dried out a little as other had mentioned but defintely overall a much improved, great playing and sounding Gibson. Happy right out of the box!
