Trying to love and I don't think it'll be too long

By Brandon Elliott from VA on June 15, 2022

I wanted something to replace my Fender SFX (so I could keep it set up in my music room) and this was my choice after having the opportunity to play through a friend's. He didn't have the same instruments that I do, but it sounded so clean and as close to the "real thing" as I've ever heard. At its first gig, I definitely noticed a difference in the sound delivery vs the SFX - this bothered me at first, but these are not the same animals. I've now played it on several gigs and I didn't like it as much as the SFX when playing my HD 28 - no matter the adjustments, it just didn't sound the way I wanted it to. Then I ordered an American Acoustasonic - well, let me tell you, these two items were made for each other!
The power that this amp has is amazing - never losing clarity, no matter the volume. The pedal is a must-have and should be included with the purchase, but alas, it's not. The built-in effects are great, although I tend to use pedals, keep the A effect turned off, and the B effect as an add-on sometimes. The cover that comes with the amp is, well, trash. I guess if you're handling it with kid gloves all the time it will do the job of covering it, but mine had a torn seam, less than a week in and after five gigs (for comparison, the SFX has been used for five years and the cover still looks new). I use an amp stand, so I can't attest to the built-in "kickstand," but I can't imagine that it doesn't do its job.

All in all, without the addition of the Acoustasonic, I was on the verge of sending this back and ordering the new SFX - probably because I'm so used to how the sound is delivered for what I'm hearing - but she's not going anywhere now.

If you're trying this amp out, sit in front of it and hear what your audience is going to hear, and you'll fall in love.
