This Mini Amp is Boss!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 15, 2024

I wanted a small amp for guitar practice in my home and this is perfect. It's compact and easy to move from room to room (or even to take with me when we have to stay at our kids to babysit for the grandchildren). And despite the small size, the amp offers many options to choose from if you want to change the tone, etc. I like that it's battery powered so you can use it if you're not near any outlets (eg., playing outside on a terrace, patio, deck, beach, etc.) but it also allows you to plug in an AC adapter (not included). Great choice if you are looking for a portable small rellay good amp.

Boss Katana Mini 7 watt Combo Amp

By Jim Hohenstein from Greenfield Twp., ME on April 11, 2024 Music Background: Retired lifelong musician.

This is a cool little practice amp. I bought it because I play only at home and always with headphones and a PodGo, no amplifier. I wanted something that I could use if I had an opportunity to sit and jam with someone, something that wouldn't break the bank or blow the house down.

Well, the bank is not broken and the house is still here. I was honestly surprised at the good quality of sound from this little amp. It was just what I was hoping for.

I'm retired and not doing live gigs anymore, but this will be great to travel with; very light and it has a headphone out. I got the appropriate power supply just in case. I don't use it with my set up at home so this is basically a travel unit or in case of a PodGo misfire.

I just fired the Katana up again and a half hour later here I am, dialing down from a great session with and without "phones" and with power source or batteries. Just what this Dr ordered!!!

Heck yeah this little amp. is simply great
when you can't go to the studio or just want to practice some chords and riffs.
Sounds really good with my 1989 American Stratocaster with Fender Custom Shop 1954 pickups.
Yeah you can tell I'm a tone nazzi after 51 years of playing professionally.
I mentioned my guitar and skill level so you'd know this wasn't an armchair review.

Superb practice amp

By Bryan Nelson from SAINT GEORGE, KS on November 10, 2023

I just got this today and so yeah, may be a bit of honeymooning on the review but there's honestly not much this amp hasn't been able to do for what I need it to do. That's the thing about these reviews, what do you or I need the product to do and does it do that?

I only needed an amp that I could plug into at home (or work) and it not be too overbearing. This amp does that wonderfully. I have a Honeytone mini amp, and an Orange Mini Crush. Neither of those could make tones that motivated me to practice. They made noise sure, but nothing that would make me say "Yeah I feel like picking up my guitar." Well this BOSS Katana does that.

So what features does it have? I mean, read the sales posting lol right?

Killer!

A Little Box That Really Rox!

By Scott M from Texas on September 14, 2023 Music Background: Composing/Recording

Looking for a portable battery-powered mini-guitar amp for practice and . . .more? Well, I've been putting this little monster through its paces since it arrived last month — and it has performed beyond expectations. The Boss Katana has a three-way switch for various sounds: The "Brown Sound" setting kicks out one of the best "overdriven tube amp" sounds I've found from anything besides a cranked Marshall or old Fender tube amp. Superb "Clean" sound is clear and crisp. The wonderful "Crunch" setting provides enough dirty-sound for some blues pickin' or even hard rock, but it doesn't have the brutal fuzz of the "Brown" setting — which is a good thing since it provides variety. There's a video demonstrating the sounds of this little mean creature on YouTube that shows it miked — since it has no output jack. This would seem to indicate that it could be used miked through a PA system or "old school" studio recording. I haven't tried miking this amp for recording guitar tracks — but I'm going to give it a try — and I'm fairly certain I'll get good results. All in all this is a piece of equipment that probably won't just sit around not being used — it just sounds too good. Powered by six AA batteries and with a convenient carrying handle - so easy to use on the tour bus or for some quick backstage tuning and warmups before a concert. And BTW — if you drop a Franklin ordering this one . . . I think you'll be glad you did.

I was hyped on this amp from youtube and i got to say it lives up to the hype great sounding i had a mini amp in the past and it pales into comparison to this it might not be marshal fender or any other big name amp but for the cost and size it's great would definitely recommend over a cheap practice amp

Cute Little Monster

By Mustafa Shahid from Lawrenceville, GA on November 25, 2022

Just got this today. Was extremely excited to plug it in and play. To my surprise, this mini-amp backs a power punch. Depending on your guitar, the clean tone is pretty good for its size, the crunch is cool and gain is fantastic.

Plugging it in with floor board makes the experience all too well.

This amp is perfect for those who do not have a lot to spend but still want to have a good experience.

It is PERFECT as a practice amp.

Boss Katana Mini guitar amp

By Dave from OR on September 30, 2022 Music Background: Been playing guitars since 1964. Just for fun and stress relief.

I received this little amp a couple of weeks ago and I have used it everyday since. It is just great. Perfect practice amp and great to have when the power goes out also. In fact the power was out the day it arrived.
I passed up buying one a couple of years ago when I tested it out at a local guitar store. It didn't have reverb and I have to have reverb in any amp I have. I didn't know at the time that if you adjust both of the delay knobs at about 2 o-clock you can actually get something that I think sounds better than most of the built in reverbs that many amps have. The people working at the local guitar store near here missed out on a sale that day, because, probably they don't get much training and probably didn't know that either.
I happened to read about doing that from one of the reviews that someone wrote into your web site. Thank you very much to who ever wrote that review. This little amp is amazing. I love it. How can something this small, sound this good ?? It is so light and small. You can just take it anywhere too. If it holds up as good as all the other Boss products I have, it should last a long, long time too. Thank you Sweetwater for having it on sale and sending me the ad with the review that I read. I have tested out many of my guitars on the MINI and they all sound great. Thank you "Roland/Boss" for making this fantastic little amp.

Boss Min guitar amp

By Dave from Eugene, Ore. area on September 20, 2022 Music Background: For 58 years, hobby guitarist since 1964.

How can something this small sound this "Good" ? As always, Sweetwater Music is just great to deal with. Any questions at all "They Call Me" and we solve the Problem. Not a machine or people in other countries that can't even speak English and I can't understand anyway but real, trained. Not like the other companies who, and you have to call them and wait on hold for ever and they can't help you anyway just transfer you to someone else that is no help either. But real employees who care and you are really able to solve problems. Some thing that was common back in the 1950's and 1960's at businesses but that you almost can't find any place any more. Thank you Sweetwater and Brian Kerns and all the others at Sweetwater.

Anyway, about this just really Great, Little, Amp. Every time I plug in any guitar I have, I'm just amazed that any amp this small can sound this good. I passed up buying one a few years ago at a local music store. It didn't have reverb and I didn't know how to adjust the delay knobs, "to more than make up for no reverb knob". The untrained employees there were no help at all either.

After reading a review on your site where the fellow that wrote it talked about adjusting the delay knobs correctly to get a reverb effect, I decided this amp would be worth another test run. I'm sure glad the I read that review and tried this little amp again. Thanks to him for writing the review and to Sweetwater again for another great product.

A Lot Of Sound In A Small Portable Package

By Ted on September 9, 2022

I needed a better travel amp with a selection of voicings in a portable package. I consulted with Mike Wright to confirm my choice. Mike assured me it would fulfil my stated need. The sounds that can be dialed in on this amp rival others, even larger amps I have had. Great for practice great for travel, at an affordable price. This amp made me sound better than I really am :)

10/10

By rvybarela on September 8, 2022

Awesome little amp with a big sound! I love an apartment & decided I wanted to get back into writing. I wanted something to track guitar with so I didn't have to use too much processing via amp plugins.

This amp really impressed me with how it sounded through it's speakers & when using the 1/8" output into my interface. It has a great sound & doesn't have weird artifacts. Definitely a great amp to demo guitar with. It also takes FX pedals well too.

The type of cable I got was a 1/8" TRS to 1/4" TS. I got the cable here, but noticed it was noisy. It wasn't coming from the amp, so I contacting my sales guy here & they sent me a TRS to TRS (L & R) one. I haven't tried it yet, but I will be soon to see if that makes a difference?

I wish Boss provided more info on what cable they suggested to use to output the sound with.

Anyone who doesn’t give this thing at least 4 stars is a moron.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 2, 2022 Music Background: Gear Junkie Moron. This is the best use of $100 I’ve had in a long time.

Anyone who doesn't give this amp at least four stars is a moron, and I give it 5.

There isn't all that must to say, except this: it is rare a company makes a product that just hits it straight out of the park, and this thing is a grand slam. It doesn't just sound good, it sounds great.

I have 7 electric guitars at various price points from dirt cheap to upper-midrange / lower-high end. This amp sounds great with all of them. I have a Peavey Classic 30 and a Fender Blues Jr, and I use the Katana Mini more than either. I also have a Blackstar Fly 3, and that's great too. They can't match a good tube amp at high volume, but how often can you do that?

Sounds good clean, little break up, to high gain. The delay is great, and you can fake a pretty good reverb with it too.

This thing is just a winner! For the cost of a Boss Pedal you can have a great amp you can play anywhere and have tons of fun.

Wow!!

Its my go to for practice, light weight and good sound. I use rechargeable batteries also use a hotspot works great with either. For the money I dont think any other mini amp comes close. My only negative is I wish it had reverb, I use an acoustic pedal with reverb and it is fine with my electric guitars.

I love this mini-Amp. The sales rep "Clay" suggested it and it's fantastic. The delay makes it sound like I'm in a Concert Hall. It only has one input, so you would need a 2nd one if you want to mic up for singing along. I would recommend. ...great Amp. Happy customer.

Sounds great, very versatile sounds, super light and easy to carry around. Even doubles as a speaker, assuming your phone still has a headphone jack. By DAVID WEBER from IL on October 1, 2021 Music Background: Build, repair and been playing for 12yrs

I picked this up because I sold my house and was doing a 6 week stay at a hotel til my new house was finished. Couldn't exactly set up my Mesa Fillmore head and cab and wasn't gonna go 6 weeks unplugged or worse yet not playing at all. Looked at a few different headphone amps and then saw a few demos of this Katana Mini. Figured it would give me the headphone option and could still do some quiet practice w/o the headphones. I'll just say wow. The size of this thing made me expect a very thin and bland lil amp and I was wrong. It has 3 channels and digital delay that if you turn the time to 0 and level all the way up works as a reverb(see pic). The cleans are great and the overdrive was actually a real surprise(reminds me of SD1). Then the Brown channel kicked in and I was blown away. At 7 watts it can get pretty loud and the tone is really great..... I am not saying it is a tone machine but for the size and features it really rocks. Costs about the same as a headphone jack amp and is way more bang for ur buck. Take it anywhere runs off batteries or 9v power supply. I am now looking at the Katana 50 watt combo for practice w my band and as a backup. Boss has great pedals so why wouldn't they have great amps.

What's not to like?

A rare, more than advertised product and good with an acoustic guitar as well

By Ethan Hicks from Crested Butte, CO on August 3, 2021

It's said a lot in many of the reviews of this product but it is the most concise statement about the Boss Katana Mini: This thing is NOT a toy. If you want to just cut to the chase that's all you really need to know. Buy it and you won't be sorry. For a change of pace I decided to get one of these to plug my 2006 Gibson J-50 into. It has the stock piezo pickup that came in it, which is nothing fancy or of real merit. I run the signal from the guitar into my 2013 Zoom A3 and then into the Mini with all the appropriate settings in the A3 set for a jumbo guitar and a piezo pickup. I've been having more fun with this setup than I thought possible. I mostly use the clean setting on the amp with the delay controls, time and level, all off. More on that in a minute. This little amp handles all the the various effects available in the A3 with clarity and definition. In addition if I want a more electric guitar blues sound I switch the A3 to a condensor mic setting, switch the Mini to the first gain setting and get some great overdriven lead blues tones I never would have thought possible. So everything from a clean unadulterated acoustic tone up to a lot of usable electric guitar tones are available. My A3 eats batteries way, way faster than the Mini but if it dies during a session I run straight into the Mini and use the on-amp delay to sculpt the sound and it really is highly versatile and satisfying. So I have a rig now that easily fits into my medium sized bicycle messenger gig bag; amp, pedal, and two guitar cords that I can set up in about a minute that is a blast to take and play anywhere. Here's a tip: if you are playing and you start to get a terrible static-like noise with the gain even slightly boosted your amp is not defective. It's just that your batteries are about to die really soon. Put in fresh ones and things should be just fine.

Everything a Practice Amp Needs.

By Lee B. from Seattle, WA on July 29, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

I got this a few weeks ago as a birthday gift. I love it! The three channels are actually pretty darn close tonally to my Bogner Atma's three channels. I like the onboard analog delay, too. It's so easy to set up and use, I've practiced more in the last three weeks than in the three months prior. I can slap my RC3 in front of it and I'm literally all ready to practice. I like that it's pure analog but still sounds like an amp. Good chance it will hold up a very long time with no digital stuff to go legacy in a few years. The tone stack works just like a real amp's. It's dead easy to dial in. And it's portable, literally just heavy enough to avoid tipping over. Somehow it doesn't sound anywhere near as boxy as you might expect. It runs on a Boss PSA-120S or 6 AAs (included just like with Boss's pedals) and it just sips those batteries nice and easy, like an overdrive. What more could somebody want out of a practice amp for this inexpensive?

$100?

Best practice amp ever. Takes batteries and sounds really good. I'd love to have a Spark but why? This does everything a practice amp needs to do in three useful and convincing voices. Very easy and useful delay as well. I LOVE it!

GREAT LITTLE PRACTICE AMP

By Kevin McNamara from NorCal on March 18, 2021 Music Background: amature

The Boss Katana Mini is a great little mini battery-powered amp. First off, this thing just sounds amazing, all the three channels are useable, and many, many great tones are on tap with a few twists of the controls.
I really dig all the features that are standard, but I like the headphone and aux outs and also, all the different delay settings I can get with a small adjustment. The amp is well constructed, small, and very portable (>3 lbs). It's even wife-approved, as she thinks it's very cute and awesome.
The only negative is having to buy a separate plug-in power supply.

Simple and clean

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on January 12, 2021

Great sound, and I actually prefer this to my micro cube even though the cube is more expensive. This amp lets you toggle the bass/treble/mid etc and gives you control over gain but not just in the form of a few presets. Depending on your pickups, amps with full control like this are great b/c you don't just have to deal with whatever settings you're offered. I turn my treble way down on this b/c my pickups tend to overdo it on the higher notes so this amp lets me get better sound out of my guitar

The Tiny Amp is Boss

By John from North of Boston, Rocky Coast of Maine on September 7, 2020 Music Background: Piano and Keys, Songwriter, Vocals, Bass, Drums

I'm just now taking the plunge into getting good at guitar, being primarily a keyboardist. I've heard plenty of good and bad guitar tone through the years. My thoughts: This little amp sounds good, clean to dirty. The amp modeling is responsive. The 3 band EQ is necessary in a unit this size. The delay unit is a fun little toy. Reminds of Hello Kitty.
The amp gets as loud as you need to wake up the family and annoy the cat. I'm starting to like being a guitar player. I bought a $5 AC adapter on Amazon; not necessary. The batteries are lasting forever so far. Keep spares. I wish, I wish they would make something like this for keyboards...

I have needed a battery powered mini amp for practicing while on our camping vacation. This little black box is exactly what I have needed and more. It makes my somewhat cheesy Japanese knockoff of an ES-335 (I don't want my good guitar subjected to camping) sound great (hey, maybe it really is great). The amp is much more powerful than I expected and has great tonal options. I've messed around with delay pedals before but this amp has me really liking delay. The main thing is that I feel excited about playing on this, which keeps me practicing.

By James from Wisconsin on June 15, 2020 Music Background: relearning guitar. Played piano, sax, flute.

Being a cheaper, smaller amp, it is very impressive. It takes 6 double A batteries or i suggest buying the power cord as well. It is light and sounds bigger than it is. I don't normally give 5 stars on a purchase, this is beyond any mini amp I've heard. Worth the buy and then some. I am not disappointed.

The Best Mini Amp!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 28, 2020

I've had this Katana-Mini for a couple of years now, and I am amazed at how many sounds this thing puts out! I play through headphones and as BOSS states in their literature and on the back of the amp, the headphone out is truly "cabinet voiced". However, the BOSS Power Supply is not the PSA-120S. The Owner's Manual, the back of the amp, and the BOSS Katana-Mini webpage all state that the correct power supply is the PSB-1U, which has been superseded by the BOSS PSB-120. To Sweetwater's credit when I brought this error to their attention, they agreed to send me the PSB-120 at no charge and change their webpages where the wrong power supply is indicated.

On my entry into the Guitar sphere of playing, I needed an AMP to go along with my new Classic Vibe 70's Stratocaster. I was pointed in this direction and have to say AMP technology has certainly changed in the last 40 years! Such power in something so portable. Perfect for practicing at low volumes or deciding to ramp it up for some rock tones. No regrets from me on this purchase.

Exceeds expectation for such a tiny amp.

By Dennis from California on January 30, 2020 Music Background: Metal guitarist and vocalist

I needed a mini amp I could play in my bedroom and not disturb my wife with practice so I went with the Boss Katana Mini after seeing so many positive reviews on YouTube from well known guitarists like Rob Chapman, Ola Englund, Rabea Massad, Pete Cotrell, and more. One of my coworkers had recently purchased the amp as well and sung its praises so I knew I had to get one for myself and I was not disappointed. I'm not expecting pristine sound a mini amp combined with a $200 low end guitar, but I was still blown away by how impressive it was despite all that. I had purchased a cheap, knock off brand power supply on EBay, but the brown channel had a nasty buzzing feedback when turned on so I got rid of the power supply and opted to play with batteries instead which turned out to be better because I'm not limited to plugging it in the wall now. I plan on getting a wireless transmitter and receiver to make my practice setup completely cordless going forward. Needless to say, this is the perfect mini amp for any guitarist.

I bought this small amp to use in my motor home. It's a very small amp the size of a lunch box and will easily fit in a confined space. The sound is excellent but somewhat limited for the blues sound in my opinion. The sound is clear and I have no feedback problems. Overall it is a very cool little amp for practice and small venues. The price is right but if you buy the cord adapter it drives the overall price up.

Big tone s.all box!

By Qique Deluna on November 13, 2019 Music Background: Casual

After having this little amp for a few weeks, I've finally really warmed up to it. I've found the sweet spots tone wise that suit my guitars (Fender,Ibanez guitars), and really have "learned" to play on this little amp.
The Cleans are your basic clean, pure and simple. The Crunch channel offers some grit, and my favorite channel, the Brown setting is where my love comes in for this amp. It's quite a big sound with enough gain without a pedal. The analog circuitry offers great reliable tone, and the Delay offers some variety. Though I wish there were a Reverb instead, I found via YouTube that if you use Time at 0, Level at Max, you get a Reverb like effect which is where I leave the setting at.
I love this amp, and thank Sweetwater for making it easy to have acquired it for 3 easy payments!
It's convenient for playing anywhere, and allows for great practice anytime.

Katana Mini - and mighty!

By Richard Reese from Virginia on October 7, 2019

I agree with the folks here that like the sounds from this little monster. It sounds bigger than it is. But I thought I'd report the results of my experiment. I installed a speaker out jack (warning- this will void your warranty!). I took it to a friend's house and plugged into his Bandmaster 2x12 cabinet and cranked it up using a Les Paul custom- LOUD with awesome fat tones and sustain! I think I will be taking this over for jams at his place in the future.

Big sound little box

By Brian S from Bronx, NY on July 30, 2019 Music Background: Band Director

I wasn"t 100% sure about making this purchase to be honest. I had seen many tutorial videos online and thought there"s no way an amp this small could sound so good. So I asked my sales rep Cody for some feedback and he helped me settle my uncertainty.

Upon trying this thing out for a few hours I am hooked. First and foremost the volume you get on this thing is unbelievable. I plugged straight in with my strat and love the clean settings. And this thing definitely takes pedals like a champ. And the best part about it is portability. It"s light and easy to carry anywhere. This amp definitely came in handy for me to practice either at home or on the go.

This is hands down one of the best purchases I"ve made. Thanks again Cody for clearing my mind about it.

Perfect for the Living Room

By Paul from Utah on May 25, 2019

My wife complained that the Katana Artist was too loud. I tried to quiet it down by only putting it on the .5 amp setting. Unfortunately, you can't stop that speaker. So, I thought I'd try this little amp and hope for the best.

It did exactly as I hoped it would. It sounds as good as something of this size can, it takes pedals like a champ, and most importantly for my purposes, it was quiet enough to play in my living room. It was the first thing my wife said, "Oh, awesome! It's quiet!"

Not something any of us would say, but I can practice without shaking my house now.

This Amp Rocks!

I've had the Katana Mini for over six months now and I am still surprised by all of the tones that I can get out of this affordably portable studio/practice amplifier. I am hoping that Boss will soon release a Nextone Studio version that goes from 20w to 10w to 5w, and/or a Nextone Mini - 10w version. I would totally buy one of those as my next amp.

What a nice little Amp. It has great sound. It's well worth the money and you can take it anywhere.
By other reviews, I decided to buy one and I didn't regret it. I use the Boss Katana Mini AMP more than my large Amp system.

Incredible sound in a compact combo!

By Edgardo Leon Jimenez from Florida on November 19, 2018 Music Background: Experienced semi-pro

This little amp has tone for years! It has excellent clean sounds as well as incredible crunch for a solid state little amp. I have a Blackstar Fly3 and this Katana has better sounds, except in the crunch where they are similar but I like the sustain in the Katana more than the Blackstar.

Great for travel

By Paul on October 9, 2018 Music Background: Dad rocker, playing for nearly three decades

I travel for work a lot and this has been a great thing to have. It will fit in my checked bag or even a carry-on. It's plenty loud and the batteries last a long time. I used to use an iRig in to Amplitube on my phone, but the brown channel on the Katana sounds miles better than any high gain sound i could dial in using software amp sims. I'm primarily a metal player, so i either want tons of gain or very clean, and this little box does both with aplomb. To my ears, the headphone out sounds as good as the speaker. The aux in is great for playing along with music on my phone, though it does seem to color the recorded music more than I would like. I wish these existed when I started playing 25+ years ago. The marketing guys at Boss should have called this the "Wakizashi", after the smaller backup sword carried by Samurai in feudal Japan.

Love this little guy

What a great compromise between tiny size and tone. This is probably the amp that I most use at home.

the liberation of portability

By Chris from Dallas, TX on August 16, 2018 Music Background: worship lead guitarist and songwriter

Prior to getting this amp, I had gotten the Katana Head. While I love that one (my main gigging amp now), and like that it has a built in small speaker, it was still bulky enough and complicated enough that I didn't find myself motivated to drag it from my office/jam room to my living room when I just wanted to play/practice quickly without making effects decisions.

Thus, I decided to try out the Mini. I bought a OneSpot power adapter to use with it in case I needed it. The cool thing is the battery life is so good, I really want to stay purely battery powered. At first upon opening, I was a little concerned at the plastic feel to it. However, after playing through it and having it a while, I actually like how solid it feels.

Having only the delay effect is nice, as I focus more on playing than tweaking. Like others have said, a variety of gain levels are available and it reacts well to playing. It seems to open up to the size of the area you are in, so it always sounds a bit bigger than you'd think it would. I don't have to crank it too high to get usable volume. You could take it to a friend's place to show some ideas/riffs or do some jamming. Obviously, with the amount of power, there is a limit to it as a true jamming amp (won't keep up with a drummer or a friend cranking their stack). If you have reasonable expectation, it's great.

I can't overstate the greatness of the portability. In the past, I used to always write songs on acoustic, due to it's grab and go nature. Unfortunately, that led to too many songs sounding similar. With the Mini, I can now write more on the electric, which is really opening up my writing ideas.

The headphones sound is good and usable. However, I so love how the speaker responds that I'm not really motivated to go headphones with it. I prefer to hear it in the room. I've even tested micing it up and recording that way, and it sounds fine if you set the EQ right. I actually now take it in my gig bag as an emergency back up amp. If my head goes out, I can plug my pedal board into the clean channel and either mic or go direct and be able to get by.

The aux in is a nice feature too, as I go through video lessons using it. All it's missing is a connector to attach to my belt loop so I could walk around the neighborhood jamming.

Great deal for the price. Do it if you need a tool like this.

Cool Little Amp!

By Tim from East Texas on August 8, 2018

I"ve been looking at a few small (mini) guitar amps for awhile now. One that I could carry upstairs and put bedside or on the coffee table while watching tv. And I"m glad I chose the Katana Mini! This little thing is a lot of fun and it"s small & light enough to take just about anywhere. I use the aux line in with an iPad and headphones for late night practice and it works great for that. The 6 AA batteries seem to last a long time also. I haven"t even opened the Amazon power adapter yet.

The best portable amp on the market today.

I was skeptical with how many glowing reviews I had been reading. Usually when something seems too good to be true it usually is. But i got to try one out at Gearfest......... And I took one home with me! Amazing sound out of such a small amp. Both clean and dirty it feels and sounds like a much bigger amp. This Katana mini with my Steinberger Spirit is the best travel set up I've ever had! Every guitar player should have one of these.

Thank you!

Pretty Cool

By Mountain from Eureka on May 30, 2018 Music Background: Experienced Player

The Mini is just what I was looking for in a tiny portable amp. It's simple and well made for the price of a pedal. The controls are intuitive and highly responsive. It does not have the bottom end of a 4x12, and I giggle when I read that that's what people expect from a 4 inch speaker blowing 7 solid state watts. What it IS is a full on analog amp with built in digital delay. Each of the 3 channels has a distinctive character with virtually unlimited tonal possibilities. Blew the whole afternoon just tweaking the knobs and noodling around with the delay. Found interesting tones at every volume level, and this little amp gets loudy loud close up. Finally just dimed everything and controlled it with the guitar. I bought the adapter, but probably won't use it much. This is gonna be great for lessons, practice, warm ups, and just throwing in the car for fun. I'm fussy about gear and do a whole lot of research and listening before I buy. Living in a remote part of the country, I can't always try stuff out live, so I rely heavily on these reviews and other forums and websites. Check out some online videos to get a better idea of what you're getting, but for the price of a good steak dinner you can't do much better than the Katana Mini.

Love it

By Vac from WA state on May 15, 2018 Music Background: Enthusiast

Darn good sounding.
Simple, lightweight, compact.
Favorite setting: clean setting, gain @ 65%, vol @ whatever, bass @ 100%, mids @ 50%, treble @ 75%, delay @ 65%, delay lvl @ 35%.
Try it with a humbucker.
For single coils, increase the gain a bit.
Buy one, you'll dig it.

Boss Katana Mini - 7 watt combo amp

Astounded

By Sweetwater Customer on February 9, 2018

Like the title says, I am astounded at how good this little amp sounds. Probably my favorite "mini" amp that I've tried.

There are the Roland Micro Cubes which do sound a little better, and are more versatile but they are not as portable, and you can hear the 'digital' ness coming through while this amp is analog and even cleans up if you roll off your guitar's volume. There's the Yamaha THR series which is absolutely great for both practice and recording. Blows most small amps out of the water... BUT it's 3x the price. Blackstar Fly 3 is indeed a little cheaper, smaller, takes less batteries and sounds great too, but it doesn't sound as good as the Boss. So it's a trade off there. Save some money or get something that sounds better. As for the other mini amps on the market I didn't mention, the majority of them are just toys. This one isn't.

It's not going to shake your floors or anything. That's not what it's designed for. BUT it does sound excellent and is nice just having next to me on my desk and not having to take up outlet space if I simply want to plug in and try something out, or write music without worrying about disturbing anyone or plugging/unplugging stuff in constantly. It's a no nonsense amp which is what I love most about it. Also hardly weighs anyting.

Haven't had any issues whatsoever nailing the sound of any genre I play on it with any guitar I own either. Strat, 7 string, etc etc. I read on a forum someone complaining that the amp's distortion cannot handle Metal tones...yeah um.. Somebody's deaf.

Give it a go. Ya won't regret it.

Excellent Practice Amp

By David Zuk from Ormond Beach, FL on January 21, 2018

I needed a small battery powered amp to use for testing DIY effects pedals I'm building. I didn't want to drag my Vox or Marshall amps out of their climate controlled studio environment and into my beachside Florida garage workbench for obvious reasons so I was looking for a small battery powered practice amp. This Boss amp far surpasses all expectations. For it's size and form factor, the sound quality is amazing and definitely beyond useful for my intended purposes. Thanks once again to my sales rep Jorge Padilla for the amazing care and attention to my particular needs. I can't recommend this amp and Sweetwater enough !

Is like the future is alrready here. This little thing is amazing and no matter its short 7 watts of power the tone you get can compensate anything. Very warm tone! Clean, crunch or Brown. But as any big tube amp you can regulate the volume in the Crunch mode getting if you wish a clean low sound. You will be surprised with this jewell! Very versatile! 5 stars to this mini amp in power but big in tone!!!!!! Congrats Roland!!!!!

Katana Mini

By Jash from Chicago on October 26, 2017

I have owned a lot of battery operated practice amps in my life , but I have never heard one sound as amazing as this little powerhouse. Not only does it have an EQ, it has a delay which you can adjust to sound like it has a reverb. It also has clean, crunch and brown which you can adjust the gain to literally play any type of music. If you’re thinking about getting this amp, you won’t go wrong, it really does sound incredible.

Wow, just wow!

By Sweetwater Customer from Sedona, AZ on October 25, 2017 Music Background: Intermediate hobbyist, metal, rock

I decided to get rid of my Bugera tube for portability reasons, and was looking for a decent practice amp with some modelling. Thought I'd go with the Marshall Code 25, but after reading/watching the reviews for Katana, thought I'd give the mini a try, and since it is all analog.
It exceeded my expectations, I'm still in awe at how crisp, full and powerful this little amp sounds. I think it is better than my tube and anything I've played at this level. I mean seriously..if you're just a hobbyist or practising and don't need a real loud sound, this is plenty enough.
The only issue I had was that, out of the box, the power chords sounded very muddy on the brown channel, but after playing for a few hours, everything sounded crisp. I figure this is because the speaker needed to be broken in. It's just a perfect little amp, gives me all the metal/80s rock tones I need without any pedals, and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Even better than the Fly3

By Jeff H from Twin Cities, MN on October 13, 2017 Music Background: Hobbyist

I bought the Blackstar Fly3 a couple years ago and really felt that it represented a new standard in what was possible with a sub-$100 battery-powered mini amp. The BOSS Katana Mini raises the bar even further on that standard. It's amazing how many varied tones you can get out of this mini amp. You can set it up to remain fully clean and it retains a fair amount of headroom. But the two additional channels (using analog gain staging) give you crunchy or even full-out Brown Sound. How many $500 to $1000 tube amps even have a mids control? Well, the Katana Mini does, and it's really nice to have that additional ability to scoop or hump the mids (something lacking on the Fly3, which only has an ISF character control).

The amp lacks reverb because it would be a gas guzzler for batteries, but you can set the delay time at "0" and the delay level all the way up, and it creates a reverb-like room effect. Battery life is as good as advertised - I'm still on my first set of AA's, and it's been at least 5 or 6 hours with no signs of slowing down. This amp is also exceptional for headphone practice, as I believe they've included a cab sim on the headphone output. Don't expect booming low end from the 4" speaker, but it sounds and behaves like a full-size amplifier, but with talkover volumes and complete portability. Love this little amp.

Love it

By Hessman2000 from Framingham ma. on September 30, 2017

Just bought it a couple days ago and I’ll tell ya, I was very impressed. First of all right out of the box it sounded great but the best part is it works great with effect units and pedals. In my case a boss ME-80 and a few floor pedals, especially the boss BD-2 blues driver can’t wait for the boss angry driver to come out. For me it’s great because I live in a condo with thin walls so I cant use my beloved boogie Mark 4 anymore. Settings wise I recommend turning the treble down and boosting the bass and mids. So give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

NICE!

for acoustic guitars too!

By Steve from Detroit on September 12, 2017

All these mini amps (and lots of folks make them) seem to be designed for electric guitars. Yes, the Katana Mini has a setting for "crunch" as well, but I'm here to tell you that set on "clean" -- and I've been playing acoustic guitar exclusively for over 40 years -- this little Katana sounds great. Small, yes. This is not for playing a show. But jamming in the living room with a horn or piano, this thing is WOW! just the amount of punch you need, tone controls and all. And yes, those two wacky "delay" knobs actually do accomplish a passable version of reverb. Who knew? Get this amp; you WILL use it. And at this price, you can't go wrong.

Amazing

By Gonzalo from Texas on August 31, 2017

For a very long time I have been looking for a small amp that I could use to jam along with music coming from my computer and studio monitors, most of small combo amps are not designed to sound good on low volume, this little amp sounds amazingly good on low volume and high and it is so small that I have it on my desk next to my studio monitors.
When I opened the box and saw the size and how light it was I thought I was going to be disappointed, I was wrong. The best purchase I've made in a long time.

Just Awesome!! The entire Katana line of Amps are terrific. The "mini" is no exception as it s awsome as well!! I ran my Line 6 Helix processor through the mini. Wasn t expecting much but oh man, the mini Katana handled 90% of the Helix factory settings. I had it set to "clean" while I played the Helix through it. As for the Amp on it s on? Buy it. At 99 dollars it s a steal, sounds great and light as a feather (it doesn t feel like it weighs over 2 pounds)!! Great job Boss on the new Katana Amps!!

I have plenty of great sounding tube amps. From a mesa roadster to an old twin reverb, an orange AD15, etc. they are LOUD. and HEAVY as a bulldozer. And really, i use one amp for clean, one amp for crunch, and one amp for full blown liquid lead. The Boss Katana Mini is LIGHT like you cant believe and sounds impossibly good for it size. No its not loud, but the volume it brings to the table is plenty to jam with a loud stereo or a small setting jam session. And the TONE... Oh how i love the three sounds. Clean crunch and brown. Oh my, they really got the feel and the gain RIGHT. And i VASTLY prefer onboard delay to reverb. Well done boss. I think that guys and gals with a lot of time playing through great amps will just be blown away by this wonder. Oh, how does it react to pickups you ask? Well, single coils sound just like single coils with all the chime and jangle. Humbuckers sound like humbuckers, tight and aggressive. One last thing, i have a boss cube micro as well, and although it was GREAT for its purpose as well, this Katana Mini is a whole lot tasty in the tone zone IMO.

Simply Brilliant

By bradley ames from Richmond on August 11, 2017 Music Background: Musician

This little battery powered amp exceeds all of my expectations.
it is a PRACTICE amp, not a stage amp, so adjust your expectations accordingly....

However I have played this outside a bit for people and as long as your doing some street stuff or background music, in a small setting without drums...it should work A-OK; I know the people moving in and out of the building like the smooth jazz :D

The audio is very well balanced compared to Rolands' Micro Cube series, but the Katana Mini is just "tighter" and more responsive overall...Oh, and it's cheaper too!

The amp takes 6 AA batteries or the Roland PSU, I'm currently on Batteries and it's doing just fine; and overall no issues with power fluctuations.

The construction is all plastic, no wood here folks; however it is very sturdy for what it is, doesn't feel cheaply made at all! The Knobs are just as good as the 2X12 I own from the same line, and most of the wait to the amp will be the batteries, this thing is LIGHT!

The settings on it are your standard "JC-20 sounding clean, Crunch, and sort of the high-gain from the Waza Amp" It's all balanced and not too thin like on most small amp speakers, and for the money blows Yamaha's THR out of the water...Oh yea and the Speaker Grille is also plastic, but man oh man does it still look snazzy!

Now, this amp is a traditional Analogue amp, no modelling here folks; while the larger Katanas have modeling (and it's darn good), this one has been re-engineered as an analogue experience that too me, sounds exactly like the Katana...but smaller.

TL;DR Buy this amp, it'll be the best practice amp you ever own.

Very clean sound for the size. It has a nice sounding delay and a 3 band eq. You can really get some nice rock tones with this thing if you can figure out the knobs. The 3 settings crunch, brown, and clean will add variety to your music.

It's barebones in that there's no extra stuff that you don't need. It's basic and easy to understand if technology isn't your strong suit.

Battery life is reasonable. No complaints.

This amp is named after on of the greatest blade weapons of all time, and the name fits! This little marvel had gigantic tones, even as whisper level volume! This beauty was delivered overnight, as promised, early in the day. I was able to crank it up, and it kept up with my boom box volume, at about 5-6 on the Katana. Any higher and it would have drowned out the boom box! The cleans are great and clear. The crunch had all the punch I expected. But the "Brown" sound kills it completely! EVH, George Lynch, Warren DiMartini, Randy Rhoads, and Frank Marino tones are all easy to get very close to with this amp. My only issue, and a minor one, is the lack of effects. The delay is great for what it is supposed to do. I always play with a chorus (80's hair metal player) and had to get a Boss CE2 to get my tone. That being said, it makes the amp almost perfect. So far I have played 2 Epiphone SG VE models, an Epi SG61 reissue, 2 squire Strats, an Ovation Celebrity Elite, and a Carvin custom with this amp. Every single one of them sounded amazing. I was especially impressed with how the acoustics sounded. The custom Carvin has a Graphtec piezo pickup and the Ovation is a full acoustic. Both sang like opera singers mixed with a little RJD mixed in. Overall, this has convinced me 100% that I need the full size Katana in 100W!!! Bob Mondok was spectacular in getting everything handled fast and correctly, as always!

Coming from a professional guitarist I took his word for it. Wow, this puppy packs a punch. From clean jazz to insane distortion and massive feedback. Pretty amazing for an amp with a 4" speaker. I'm getting killer tones from it. Can't wait till the weather gets better so I can use this outside on my deck. It's sure to piss off the neighborhood dogs. I played my Telecaster and Epiphone LP Traditional Pro through it and both sounded great. Thanks to Jason from Sweetwater for always being of great assistance. Absolutely incredible lunchbox amp

By Chris on July 24, 2020 Music Background: gitar

This thing is amazing in every way. It's really loud for a 7 watt solid state but sounds amazing quiet. It's incredible sounding and the brown channel could give any tube 100w combo a run for its money. The crunch channel has a very rich, thick tone. The headphone output doesn't sound great so thats why it's 4 1/2 stars instead of 5. Very portable as it weighs 0 pounds. Overall an incredible value and I strongly recommend.

Very pleased!

By MG from Los Angeles on December 8, 2018 Music Background: Full time player of 50+ years

I own two other Katana combo"s (50+100) so I was already famailiar with the way these amps have a feel and responsiveness that is very inviting. I needed something that would be couch friendly. This amp really does respond
pick and finger attack in the way a "real" amp does when set to the sweet spot. The only places it comes up short is the tiny plastic cab and small speaker just can"t deliver bass response, more of a low mid, but you forget about that quickly because it really responds so well that you get into playing. It cleans up nicely to where you can control breakup
with your fingers if you know what you are doing. Boss made the right choices regarding the well tuned delay also. I"m sure current consumption was a big concern in a battery amp and a high quality digital verb would have you replacing batteries every few hours. The delay has a nice analog voice that stays out of the way but yields some ambience. It is preset to 3-4 tapered repeats, which is exactly my go-to spot for general use. This amp does not put out a lot of volume, btw, but it"s enough for practicing by yourself even with the TV on. I don"t see it as a gigging machine for even the smallest coffee house situations. That is also where it differs from the other Katanas. They have a tube like watt, this one does not have anywhere near the output of a 7watt tube amp. Still, not a deal breaker for me. It sounds and feels great and Is addictive to play.

The Boss Katana Mini is a battery-powered (6 AA's) mini amp that brings convincing "tube-like" amplification with you wherever you want to practice and play. It's extremely lightweight and simple to use, yet it can cover a wide range of tones and genres.

About 2 years ago, Blackstar released the Fly3, a battery powered amp with a 3" speaker that really moved the ball forward in terms of what you could expect from sound quality in a battery-powered micro amp. The Katana Mini is a bit more expensive, but boasts a few notable advantages over the Fly3. First, the 4" gives it just a bit more low-end "oomphf", though you still wouldn't confuse it for a full-size combo amp. Second, it features a 3-band EQ (Bass/Mid/Treble) that really helps dial it in to different guitars and styles of music. Third, the analog Katana Mini uses gain staging to add a "BROWN" channel, which offers an impressive amount of gain and saturation. I'd give a slight edge on construction quality to the BOSS, also, given that all controls use full-size knobs similar to what you'd see on an effects pedal.

There's no reverb, but there is an analog-flavored delay effect, which you can trick into sounding like a "room reverb" on certain settings. It's pretty dark and subtle, and you can't make it do bright, percussive repeats like The Edge, but it's still a nice feature.

The Katana Mini is an excellent practice companion, and I could it see it being a favorite for dorm rooms, buskers, and campfires, as well. It's not meant to sound like a full-size amplifier. It's meant to project the characteristics of an amp turned up to volume, but reduced to talk-over volumes. It does that job quite well.

The best mini amp but could be better

By Kellan Knight from Las vegas on December 12, 2023 Music Background: Metalcore and deathcore guitarist. Also went to LVA for music and guitar

I bought this as an amp to travel with as my last one's input Jack broke. I was looking for a miniamp that I didn't need software for as I don't have a computer capable of updating amps such as the spark series. My only other criteria for it was a high gain channel. I did all the research and came up with this boss mini as I had heard great things about the brown channel on the bigger amps so I gave it a whirl.
It's great but not the best they could've done all the channels are perfect except the brown channel but it still delivers compared to some other mini amps I've tried in stores.
Will it get you to 90's death metal yes. Super modern metal no.
The final issue I have with it is in certain locations the delay starts to pick up radio signals but if you actually read the back of the amp I says why.
So is it the best non software mini amp on the market yes, is it good compared to the spark series not even close.
I would recommend it if you don't have a high end computer.

Katana Mini

This amp is great for travel, which was the reason I purchased it in the first place. I have a larger Katana for home use so this should not be compared to that one. Overall, the amp has great tones and enough features to make your practice more enjoyable. I highly recommend this amp to anyone looking for something compact to carry around.

Great Brown sounds.but crunch sound,is pretty weak. Clean is not that great but Ok.

Yes, it will chug!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 25, 2022

Amazing little amp! I was looking for a battery powered amp I could travel with, and this fits the bill!
One of the few amps in this size range that has a 3 band EQ which us really handy. And don't let the channel names fool you! "Brown" can definately do heavy metal! The crunch channel can get close too!
My biggest concern ordering this, was "does it chug?", as nothing for reviews shows it as well at heavy metal... It does metal, and tracks well for old school death metal!
I wouldn't say greatest tone in the world, but it's enough to keep practice enjoyable!

It's got a price that can't be beat.

By Sweetwater Customer on November 17, 2021

Purchased this amp for practice and I'm quite surprised of the features (3 voicing) it has for such low price. I would definitely use it for busking if I had to. (Given the current situation...I may have to, sooner than later.) I use the A/C adapter (sold separately) just to conserve battery power.

This amp hit the sweet-spot for me!

Love it.

Sounds big for such tiny package. perfect for the living room.

Not bad!

By Tyler from Missouri on December 23, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist and audio engineer

I stopped playing guitar for 4 years, and "accidentally" bought a Strat when I went to a pawn shop to pick up some home stereo equipment. I've spent that whole 4 years doing research and hoping to start playing again, so needless to say I spent all my time researching bigger, "real" amps.
I ordered this amp at random while I was on my lunch break without reading any reviews or shopping around. I wasn't even going after the Boss name because I'm honestly not a fan of their pedals.

It turns out I got really lucky and I was just looking for something to make guitar noises until I save up for a recording amp. This little thing helps me nail all the Second Wave black metal tones I can throw at it. I don't know if its because of my active pickups, but the clean channel isn't that great and I mostly use it to tune my guitar. The delay is barely noticeable, even when turned up all the way. But the overdrive is really nice, and you can do SO MUCH with the gain and volume controls. I haven't had a solid state amp this good since my old Hughes & Kettner. It actually makes me want to reconsider the tube amps I've been looking for in favor of a full-sized Katana. You get a lot of amp for the money with the whole Katana range and there seems to be an amp for every occasion.

Great little Amplifier. Works as described.

Katana mini

By Sweetwater Customer on April 20, 2020

Sounds pretty good for a 7 watt practice amp. The only things I wish, was that it comes with a foot switch and maybe more gain? Bit that it doesnt have a lot of gain as it is lol

Great for practice, line in leaves a little to be desired.

By RC on February 15, 2020 Music Background: Prosumer

I use the Katana 100 for live gigs and I have used it extensively for recording direct since I live in a situation where I can't mic up a cabinet easily. I bought this thinking I would get the same direct out sound I get from the Katana (absent the flexibility of eq, resonance, etc). This amp seems to have a more pronounced mid range in the direct out than the other Katana Amp which kind of makes for a muddy sound. I wasn't expecting a Kemper profiling amp, but the difference between this and the other Katana was significant enough that I just can't quite give this as great a rating as I would like to. The sounds are still usable with a bit of processing, just not quite as "out of the box" direct as the 100.

That being said, it is a super cool little amp, and you will be surprised at how good speaker sounds. It's the only tiny amp like this that I've ever purchased with anything smaller than an 8 inch speaker, and Boss have really outdone themselves with the Katana line.

Sound good, but not enough clean volume

By R.K. from California on March 31, 2022

I was hoping to play clean leads on my Tele while the rest of my band plays acoustic, but this amp isn't loud enough on a clean setting to keep up. On batteries, it starts distorting(in a bad way) quite early. Plugged in it's a little cleaner, but that defeats the portability purpose. I might buy the bigger version, but it's 3 times the price. It does sound good at low volumes, so it's nice for bedroom-level practice.

Terrible grounding issues

By Arun Seetharam from Coral Springs, FL on December 30, 2020

The amp itself is quite cute and loud. Sounds nice. If only you can get rid of the grounding hum. This increases drastically when you change from clean to crunch to brown. Brown gives the most horrible noise that wouldn't go away even if you do a reverse flip.

So I had to have a second power cable from which I had to tap the grounding line and connect to the amp gnd. Too much circus to hear a good sounding guitar from it. But here is the worst part. Even after grounding the noise on crunch and brown modes. Clean became quieter.

I'm sure with a little more you can get a much better amp with more amp models and better control. Like THR series may be.

Okay, but...

By Otha Shannon from Texas on February 18, 2020

Decent for small scale playing, but it starts to get overwhelmed very easy. Crackles too much.

Still a good amp

By Rick on November 3, 2019 Music Background: Guitars and amps

Honestly,
I was expecting WAY MORE GAIN on their Brown Setting.
I've watched countless video reviews on YouTube and based on those reviews, raving about this little amp,I decided to make the purchase.
What I SHOULD have done s just play one in person. I do have a Katana 50, and it's more than a gear amp, thus I was expecting the same here if just on an understandable smaller level.
The Cleans are great, the Crunch is very lacking on any kind of grain or grit even with the grain cranked up to max, hence is why I just use the Brown setting where I just use the volume pot on my Strat if I want to roll off the grain.
Having said that, I find that there isn't enough gain even on the Brown setting to suit the neck pickup. The bridge pickup translates it well enough, but the neck comes out dry and dull.
My 2009 Fender Stratocaster USA has the Seymour's Fury pickups, so they're hot.
Would have preferred reverb to delay as the fx, but I work around it to get something similar to a spring reverb effect.
It's a good decent little amp, but I honestly think it's been over marketed. The gain is not anything like what you might expect.
My ipad pro can muster more gain from any Positive Grid Amp App through its four small speakers than this dedicated amp does.
At this point, I need a pedal to get the effect that suits me for my picking, otherwise I may have gotten the same effect had I'd just purchased a battery operated Fender Mini Amp or even the EVH battery operated 5150 mini.
The Brown gain is good for chugging, chords, open chords, riffs, dgent-esque type stuff, when using the bridge pickups, but linda weak for neck pickups unless you have an Ibanez with its HB pickups for slightly better volume.
Anyways, probably less of a review and more a rant, but it's my honest, my personal honest view of this amp in an age where I believe technology allows for More, sic, saturated gains even when using analog circuitry technology.
A decent buy, just barely better than a Blackstar Fly Mini, but nowhere near what a Yamaha thr10 offers.

Best...battery amp

By Francois on August 10, 2019

Tried it in store for around a half hour, really sounded good on most settings, for a battery operated unit I'd say it's probably the best in that category that I've tried so far.

With that said, I ended up buying a Marshall G10 instead, which sounded WAY better, much more naturally sounding in comparison. and slightly cheaper!

My purpose was for quiet practice and to jam at low volumes, and the marshall does it beautifully.

If you MUST get a battery unit, the katana would be the better choice only for that, other wise you can get better quality for the same price or less.

Great gain structure,but.......

By Richie from Wisconsin on May 16, 2018 Music Background: 30 yrs

I bought this boss katana mini and the roland micro cube mini at the same time and would return wichever i liked less. Unfortunately the boss katana didn"t quite stack up to the micro cube gx,but then again it is cheaper. The katana in no way could keep up in volume or mids compared to the Cube. I would say if I didn"t a/b it next to the Cube,i may have kept it. Amazing little amp,but just not quite loud enough, and seemed to be somewhat scooped sounding. That said, the gain structure was gorgeous.nice and tight, yet saggy and chewy. Definitely great in the gain dept. my advice to anyone deciding between this katana mini and the roland micro cube gx, the Cube is a bit better(classic stack setting). Still a fun amp.

not loud enouph on clean

By rick from cal on September 9, 2022 Music Background: playalot

I read all the glowing reviews and found them to be a bit misleading. Have had this happen before with reviews. I'm very disappointed with this amp. For one the clean channel just not loud enouph. The tones are not really that good. I'm shocked how low the volume is cranked all the way on the clean channel. it's flat out not usable. I owned A Roland cube before this....much better all the way around. I'm keeping it to use playing back tracks on my piano and an external speaker for my tab when I watch movies. So at least I found some other use for it.

Katana Mini vs. Micro Cube

By rmg7 on October 19, 2018 Music Background: latin music

Have had the Micro Cube for 8 years, so I'm very familiar with it's pros and limitations. Tried the Mini side by side and at the same volume, and the Micro Cube sounded better in all settings. Plus, you have more volume, decent effects, and a 1/4" Aux-In for $... more. Unless, you have an extremely limited budget, need for VERY quiet practice, and must have a feather weight amp, go for the Micro Cube. By the way, if you can get two units for stereo, you will enjoy using them even more. Cheers.

Toy

The input is fuzzy, the sound out is headphone jack not TRS. Wont work on batterypower, cant overpower the sound of your strings. Too bad i dont have the box

1 year later

By Joe on February 24, 2019

I just can't take the humming noise from this thing anymore it's horrible.
It hums loud on brown channel
Little less on crunch
Barely noticeable on clean
Weather it's on battery power or transformer
I used it with hummbucking and single coils but just keeps humming along.
I don't recommend this amp to anyone
I have tried almost everything you
Can think of to stop the humming
If it didn't hum it would be a descent amp
But it does so it sucks!
