From Our Research Team:Joe Satriani Signature Head!Peavey and Joe Satriani set out to create an amplifier that would give the widest range of EQ options and gain structures possible. This amp delivers sounds ranging from the Classic 50 to vintage British to the modern Triple XXX and all tones in between. The versatile and comprehensive control section supplies a master volume pot and independent volume knobs for each of the 3 channels (Ultra, Crunch and Clean). Tone shaping is accomplished through passive controls for Bass, Mid and Treble on the Clean channel, while the Ultra and Crunch channels utilize active low, mid and high controls. The Clean channel is pristine yet warm and is specifically voiced to work well with effects pedals. The Ultra and Crunch channels have gain controls and fat switches to further assist in taming this thunderous tube-powered beast while achieving killer sound. Global resonance and presence knobs increase control of high-end tones, while a noise gate on the Crunch and Ultra channels cuts down on the excess noise generated by running the gain and EQ controls on high settings. Since the gate is fully adjustable, you can really clamp down, leave it slightly open or just turn it off.Peavey JSX Joe Satriani Signature Head Features:

ReviewsMesa Boogie Eater !!

This amp cranks! I play rock music. I've owned Boss pedals , Line 6 , Marshall , Mesa Boogie , and the famous 5150 , and this amp blows by them all. It's hard to believe the price is lower than most... read more [+] of the competition. The 5150 was my favorite amp before I got this. WOW sums it up. The clean channel ; which has no gain control , is pure clean tone and sounds great. The other 2 channels of distortion are heavenly. You will have to hear it to believe it. You won't be sorry. On top of that , there's a FAT switch for both the distortion channels. I leave it on permanently ; on both channels , since it sounds so rich.March 12, 2009 Music Background: Musician , recording engineer I wish I could have avoided the expense of buying Marshall and Mesa Boogie amps , in my quest for the best rock guitar sound. Do yourself a favor and get this amp. I hope Peavey quits making this amp soon , so it will become a timeless classic , like the signature 5150 is now. I LOVE THIS AMP !!!! close [-] First gig with the Peavey JSX HEAD.

January 3, 2009 Music Background: Guitarist 30 yrs Peavey JSX Head
by Matt from Sioux Falls, SD
I recently received a new JSX Head and having had an opportunity to play around with it, I can conclude that it is indeed one of the best amps I have played.July 25, 2007 Music Background: Retired professional musician, Current guitar instructor, 30+ years playing I'll spare you the technica... read more [+]l details as those are available from a number of resources. In a nutshell, this is a three channel amp with an effects loop, and the ability to switch from EL34's to 6L6's. My amp currently runs 4 JJ EL34 power amp tubes and 4 12AX7s. I am at present running the head through a Marshall 1936 2x12 with 75 Celestions. The following are my observations for the amp: Clean Channel The clean channel is totally clean. I have been unable to break it up, and that is exactly what I wanted. There is a great deal of headroom here, with rich, complex lows and sparkly, but not piercing highs. This is the perfect arena for effects, as the unique character of the effect comes through with no sound coloration whatsoever. In my current set up, I run an EH Holy Grail Reverb and a Dan Echo delay through the effects loop. Read the manual carefully for information regarding the effects send and return levels. This is my clean channel that I typically touch up with a bit of reverb and for specific applications, a bit of delay. Crunch Channel (AKA - "Amber" Channel) Great low end, particularly with the "fat" switch engaged, and the highs are clear, but again, not annoyingly piercing. The gain structure here is excellent, and I can drive the amp just a bit for a bluesy grind or step it up for an excellent Marshall sound (reminds of my '77 JMP Mark II 50W head). Also, with the gain above 5, there is a very distinctive 5150 II sound. This is a great channel and will probably see the majority of use. Ultra Channel Sweet Jesus this channel has an incredible amount of gain. While I rarely play the real heavy stuff except when I'm teaching it to my students, I have found an excellent use for it. Essentially I use this channel as a boost with a bit more gain/volume for solos. In other words, I will be using the crunch channel for rhythm work, then with the gain set about 3-4 on the ultra channel, I make the switch for soloing. This channel has a different gain structure than the crunch channel, yet the deep lows (chunky style) still thump you in the chest, and the highs maintain their clarity. Each note comes through clear and not muddled or fuzzy. Conclusion: My first amp ever (30-some years ago) was a Peavey Bandit 65 and I swore I'd never buy Peavey again. But this amp is amazing and deserves my highest praise. I use it primarily with a 2001 Gibson Les Paul '58 Historic Custom Shop, a Fender American Strat, and a Gibson SG. I have been a Marshall and Fender player for decades now, and it seems odd to find myself full circle with Peavey again. Of course, this amp is not the same animal as that old Bandit 65. The JSX is a welcome, and extremely flexible addition to my Marshalls and Fenders. I recommend this amp heartily to those who play a mix of blues, rock and hard rock. The amp definitely has the balls to play the heavier, aggressive metal as well, and for that, I give it the highest score, 5/5. It would be interesting to see how 6L6's affect the sound and tone, however at this point, I am extremely pleased with the EL34s. At it's core, the JSX is a tone machine, giving me the woodsy, organic sounds from my instruments, and adding so much more. The price point is excellent when compared with what's out there in the 3-4 channel 100W market. What the other amps don't have is a usable clean channel. This amp has that and so much more. Consider it for your lineup, Joe and Hartley did something right when they designed this beast. close [-]
