Excellent Mic

By Meghann Marty from Chicago on April 26, 2022 Music Background: Voice Actor

I bought this so I could continue to record high-quality voice over auditions while away from my home studio. I'm very happy with it! The sound quality is great and it's very small, easy to transport in it's case, and very simple to use. Highly recommended!

It's been my best USB mic so far.

By Arley Lopez from Miami, FL on July 17, 2021

Apogee Hype Mic has been my best USB mic so far. The hype is actually in its studio-quality compression and versatility. I couldn't be any happier with my purchase.Thank you!

Awesome USB microphone

By Mark W from Phoenix, AZ on June 14, 2021

I use this microphone with speech recognition software on a computer. This is by far the best microphone that I have ever used for this task. The voice compression in the microphone itself is what sets this microphone apart from its competition. Thanks to Curtis at Sweetwater for this recommendation.

Solid mic, clean and quiet, easy operation

By Michael G from Northern California on December 3, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

I play guitar, mandolin and bass, and use both Mac OS and iOS recording tools, but I actually purchased this mic for Zoom meetings on my Windows work laptop since my colleagues mentioned that they couldn't hear me clearly using my laptop's built-in mic. I figured if I was going to spend money on a USB mic, I might as well get one that would work on my Mac and mobile devices as well. I'm very glad I chose the HypeMic. It connects to all my devices flawlessly. Sound quality is great and the adjustable headphone output is clean and clear. I hooked it up to my iPad and did a quick multitrack recording using Auria. It was easy to get good tones from my guitar and mandolin straight away with a minimum of tweaking. I haven't played with the compressor settings yet, other than to confirm they function as advertised. Sweetwater order fulfillment was fast and flawless as usual. I've used a couple of other iOS microphones from Tascam and Line 6. The audio quality of the Apogee HypeMic is the best of those that I've used.

This mic solved our problems with Zoom

By Denise Helms from Vestal NHY on November 15, 2020 Music Background: I play French horn in the local community bands and have begun learning to play alto and bass recorders. Music is an important hobby to me and especially in this pandemic critical in staying in touch with my music friends.

From the non-techie...Hype Mic is easy to set up, has enough adjustment possibilities that we have been able to play duets with our music teacher without the sound fading in and out. Joe James is wonderfully helpful.

Great Service

I purchased this mic three weeks ago. I am a voiceover artists that has a very basic studio. I decided to purchase this mic with the intention of building an in house studio..( That will come soon). So the day the mic came I used it for my audition. I booked the job and was able to record the spots from imy very humble studio. Thank you guys for recommending the mic. Job well done.

Technology has gotten so good

By Andrew Larson from TN on June 30, 2019

This mic is the best ultraportable USB mic available today. The technology has gotten so good with these mics that I've sold off my Miktek Cv4, an expensive preamp and stand, and my Neve Portico 5017 for this simple option. You can basically have a full mobile production studio with this mic, a laptop, and a small midi keyboard.

Now the expensive gear sounds a bit better and with more presence, but nothing that can't be squeezed our during post production. The really beauty of a simple plug and play setup is you never have gear setup interrupting your process. If you work fast like me that's key.

The Hype Is Real!!!!!

By Dante’ from Indiana on February 23, 2019 Music Background: Producer/Mix Engineer 20 years

Absolutely love this Mic I owned the first mic and the 96k they always have great sound but the HypeMic"s built in interface and compression take it over the top!!!! I love the sound, the travel case and as always the portability.. If you are thinking about it think no more I"ll be selling my legendary Shure SM7B because I"m gone totally ipad for all my music needs and this mic is right up there with it!!!!!

Finally! A portable microphone for v/o on the go!

By James Merkel from Mars, PA on February 22, 2019 Music Background: voiceover professional owner of voice imaging

Just a few years ago I was carrying around a 2U Gator rack back with a Presonus studio channel as a mic preamp compressor. Today, it will go on ebay as this product makes life so easy. Is it meant to replace my TLM103 or MKH416? Of course not! But on the road and you have a client that needs something right now, then in the beautiful recording studio of your car you can get this set up in just about 2 mins. Sound quality is excellent, the built in compressor gives you 3 different choices of compression and all three are really good. Monitoring is a breeze. It has a great feel in your hands as it reflects how well it's built. This is the second thing I've purchased this past year that "changes everything". (the first was an Apollo twin) Nice job Apogee!

Apogee HipeMic

Fantastic mic! Super easy to use right out of the box, and the included mount and breath filter are essentials. I might also prefer a different optional mounting ability, but what is included is sufficient.

Great Mic for direct mobile recordings

By Sweetwater Customer from Pasadena, CA on February 5, 2020 Music Background: Voice Actor

I used an Apogee MiC when it first came out, I finally upgraded to the Hype MiC and it's been great! I use it primarily as a mobile mic when I'm on the road or if I need to record a voice over audition on the go. The strengthening levels of compression are great, but using it straight out of the box took a little bit of getting used to. It's highly sensitive, so the included pop shield is a must. I do wish the pop filter had a snap on or a more secure part of the mic to attach too. Sometimes it gets wobbly and becomes a tad tedious, with the protective foam starting to peel already.

The mic stand is sturdy and a tremendous improvement from previous models. The quality is on par with pro level mics, and that being said, you will need to had some sound proofing, it picks up a lot.

Great mic, odd pop filter

By Robert from CO on August 28, 2019 Music Background: Educator, Composer, Producer

I bought this a couple weeks ago. Its a great mic. I"ve used it podcasting as well as recording meetings of up to fifteen people. I have yet to use it in singing, but in recording audio for segments of a radio show I was able to balance the input in ways other mics lack to be able to get the EQ sound I desired without further tinkering in Logic. I was surprised how well this mic picked up my voce recording a podcast. Experimenting with the multi-input and playback options gave me flexability as to how I wanted my voice to carry through. The input meter is most handy however it must be ajusted in recording before beginning to do a podcast. Not particularly adiquate, a minor inconvenicne only on my podcast platform. Logic does not have this issue.. It"s a great studio mic and the carrying case is handy to for partablility with your laptop and tablet.

The only thing I didn"t like about this mic was the pop filter. I"ve tried various ways to get it to stay put but I have to keep moving it ino front of the grill. Apart from its lack of irginomitry it is cheaply made. The rubber foam around the base of the retention mount fell off in less than a week. Now its just glue and metal.

WAY better than iphone mic.

By Tim on January 28, 2020 Music Background: Audio Engineer/VO Actor

Got this for mobile VO auditions. it's compact size and built-in compressor make it perfect for recording on the go.
a little warmer than my german condenser at home.
The levels of compression do add some noise (seen in photo) .

Sounds great but..... :(

By Roland from RI on April 1, 2020 Music Background: Musician

This mic sounds great, but unlike the older model, the gain knob does not maintain itself when it is unplugged, which is a nightmare for live streaming. So you plug it into your phone, you do a test run, get levels and it sounds great. You then unplug your phone for a minute to use it and when you plug it back in all the mic settings reset themselves, and you have to start from scratch which is insane to me. On top of that there are no values on the knob so you can't even write down the settings. If anyone knows any tricks let me know. Very disappointing for an expensive mic.

thanks
RP

Good mic but poor pop-up filter

By Sweetwater Customer on February 18, 2020

I had bought this mic a month back. The sound quality from the mic is very good. I specifically like the compression feature of the mic as it enhances the vocals. But the pop-up filter is very flimsy. It broke within two weeks in spite of taking care of it like a baby.

What happened to the mic + ?

By Mushroom Jesus from Chicago on May 4, 2019 Music Background: Super producer for hiphop GOATS

Just bought the mic + and now I see this, it"s a great little portable setup but you just released the mic + not so long ago, I hate when companies release a product then release an upgraded product like Elektron releasing analog 4 mk2

My mic + had really bad plosive issues, mic+ was almost unusable with out a proper pop filter. It is made of metal and is small and heavy. Other mic + problems, setting gain is a real pain. When using a phone if you unplug the mic the gain staging starts back to zero, how can I overdub later to match gain with out proper metering green level meter does nothing for me.

The whole point of me recording on my phone is so I can compress and eq after in a real daw no one wants compression built into a mic.

The Shure mv88+ is a way better buy and price point in my opinion.

Was not impressed

By Peter from Los Angeles, CA on April 23, 2020

I was surprised to see such great reviews. I just purchased this...
I was not impressed with the sound of the mic. My old usb yeti sounded better then this. I'm new to recording but, after
several hours of trying this out I will be returning it. I couldn't get it dialed in to record guitar and vocals together.. Also, the
pop filter does not mount very well. I just don't think this is worth the price.
