Great bag!
This Bag is great! I consolidated a mixer, power strip, bluetooth player, wifi router, padded mic storage and extra wires all in one bag with easy zipper access and easly rolls away. I would probably add wireless mics next!
Light Weight, Light Duty, Just Perfect for my needs
I bought this to hold an audio interface, pre-amp and headphone amp; it's just about the perfect size for these three units combined. There's a blank panel in the bottom of the front of the unit that covers up what appears to be one more U of space, so I thought for a moment I got lucky and got a 4U rack... But the wheel wells and telescoping handles partially obstruct that fourth U.
The front rails are right against the padded cover when the zippers are closed, there's effectively 0 clearance between the front padding and whatever you mount int he rack. Since the padding is soft, it's not a big issue.
The front and backs are padded fabric covers that zip shut, so at least on those two sides this is not a hard case. The sides are of cloth covered light plastic, and the frame is solid aluminum. I will carry this in car and RV where it's pretty protected, for which purpose it will be fine. If you plan to check this in on an airplane or have it shipped, this might not be the right case for you.
This should in theory be small enough to be carry-on for air travel, I'll get to try that out soon enough. It would be a bit scary to have this have to be checked and go through baggage handling for sure.
The rails on this are not threaded, as shipped there's a threaded metal strip behind each of the front rails to screw into. None are provided for the back side; so you'll need to find some more of those threaded pieces, or use the little clamps with nuts to attach on the back side. Screws are provided,
Overall, I think it's a great way for light duty transport.
Design is flawed
Biggest problem with the design is that the mounting flange is flush with the zippered openings. Thus, any gear with knobs or buttons that stand proud from the face of the gear will be effectively pushing upward, into the lid, which has virtually no padding and thus, offers little protection.
Bought one for a Kemper and quickly realized that all the control knobs would be at great risk of damage from even the slightest bump to the closure flap. The only gear that can even remotely be protected would feature a virtually flat control face.
It"s a shame, because otherwise this is a quality built unit that could have excellent value and functionality. If not for this flaw, I personally would have given it 5 stars and not returned it.
Ok bag
First of all it’s a great bag but the problem I encountered was that it started to rip on the bottom edges because the material isn’t that strong. When I lay it flat on my piano stand it started ripping into the bag. Now I got this bag brand new so when I saw the tear I was a little upset. Ok, other than that it works as it should.
Not durable
I am not a heavy gigger, and am easy on my gear, but this bag just didn't hold up. The problem is the zippers aren't up to the job, and have either torn or broken. Also, if your gear has any knobs that stick out even a little, they will have little protection.
Gator Zippers Fail
Big time failure. Not worth it.
