Great amp head !

By Sweetwater Customer on January 2, 2024

I won't say it's really good for the money, it's just really good.

Great amp, take a listen!

By Matt on December 14, 2023 Music Background: Rock and alt rock

I've used this amp for about 5 years and it's great. I used it on a recent album with my band over borh my early 90's 5150 or late 90's Peavey Delta Blues amps. Have a listen! I play a '95 Les Paul Classic.

Bugera G5 Infinium

By Mike from Peoria, AZ on September 15, 2023 Music Background: playing since I was 7 66 now

It sounds great. Plenty of distortion, they say the Bugera preamp tube is harsh but just let the amp do the work and play a little softer And also let that tube break in tried a jj12ax7 usually a big fan of jj tube but not in this case. the effects loop worh great pedal switching no delay time nice reverb but can be very strong when cranked there is a sweet spot I find the power attenuation to be excellent also. over all for the money it is a great litte amp!

Quality tube amp. Low price. Perfect for when you can’t play loud.

By Sweetwater Customer on August 18, 2023

So I've had this amp for a few weeks and honestly I've gotten everything out of it I was hoping for. I live in an apartment so playing with it cranked is not an option. The key here is the power attenuator being able to take it from 5 watts to 1 watt and even 0.1 watt where I have it most of the time is perfect. This is a much better option then just relying on turning the volume down. Several things happen when you turn the volume and you lose all those fun harmonics you get at higher volumes. This amp does not do that even down at the 0.1 watt setting notes will continue to sing and chords will sustain as if the amp was cranked. I realize this is not the only amp that can do this but honestly for the wealth of options Bugera has packed into this amp and being tube at such a low price! You can't go wrong here. If you're thinking that means it'll be cheap sounding it is not. It has a great dirty channel that easily goes from vintage, to high gain EVH tones, to metal and takes to a nice overdrive pedal really well. I'd also like to add there is some criticism that the clean channel does not have an EQ which is understandable but the sound is pretty massive and I'm happy with it. Playing through a Mesa Boogie compact 1X12 Theile closed back with the Celestion Black Shadow MC-90 just for reference. Just my opinion and people's tastes are subjective but if you're looking to play with a quality sounding amp and you can't play loud this is the amp for you. To be clear that does not mean it can't be loud. I've taken advantage of my neighbor not being home set to the 5 watt setting and put the volume up half way and it rumbles let me tell you lol. Anyways shot out to Isaac Alvarez Sweetwater Sales rep who helped me with the amp and speaker cabinet choice. He knows what he's talking about and if your lucky enough to get connected with him you're in good hands. Thanks Sweetwater.

Killer low watt head

By Sweetwater Customer from North Carolina on July 27, 2023

I bought this amp based on 2 reasons: 1.) The tones I got out of the lil V5 infinium combo; 2.) anything over 5 watts is just not conducive for home practice - 1 watt is the sweet spot for my needs...the attenuator on these amps is just great. This 5 watt badass covers more ground than you'd ever think possible...the clean channel is very good and takes pedals well. The drive channel is one of the best I have heard from low-watt amps. The FX loop is solid, it has a lot of bells and whistles that actually work and are not marketing spin.

Great Amp!

By cbjr from Glendora, CA on June 22, 2023 Music Background: Hard rock, blues, metal

I was in the market for a low watt, all-tube amp, with an effects loop, to use as a pedal platform. Had hoped to find something like the Marshall Class 5, but with an effects loop. Basic. This amp had more options and 2 channels but the price was attractive, as opposed to the more boutique options at 5x (or more) the cost. I was very surprised at how great this amp sounds on its own. The dirty channel really impressed me, even with only 1 preamp tube. I ended up using this channel more, with an occasional boost, more than the clean channel for my pedals. The morph control is really great and you can dial in a whole array of great tones. Overall a great all-tube amp at an exceptional price.

Very happy

By Sweetwater Customer from SC on May 31, 2023

I'm so happy I decided to pull the trigger on this. I wasn't shure about the the 3 power settings all sounding good . I had a Bugera infinium before but it was way to much power for practice or home recording .This one has a better tone and makes you wanna keep playing. I run mine through a older Marshall cab. There's plenty of power for a 5watt max and the lower settings are a game changer at home. Foot pedal is good also . I have had it for a year now and no problems.Sweetwater is definitely the place to buy gear from especially guitars.cause these days you don't know what your gonna get . Having a inspection done before you receive the guitars is huge .I had 2 new guitars turn into a mess before useing Sweetwater and now im a customer for life.

Perfect for rock guitar parts.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 13, 2023

Was quite surprised with this amp. No complaints. Records well with my UA Ox Box. Best used for rock rhythm parts. The lead sounds are not bad.

Great Home Practice Amp

By James soroka from DURYEA, PA on February 3, 2023

I really like this, it's got all of the features I wanted for a home practice amp and I love the sound and capabilities. Attenuator, headphone jack, loop efx, nice overdrive sounds and amp modulation, This is my primary home practice amp now. Pushing a 2x12 Marshall cab ,and sounds great. Highly recommend

actually a little better than the hype...

By steve rhinefrank from yakima, WA on January 19, 2023

cleans are impeccable. dirty is soooo gooood... attenution will keep me from being evicted(so will the headphones. not many tube amps with headphone jacks !)

the reverb is almost shockingly big early in the sweep, but at 3 o'clock it is still very usable. it is a solid, if generic, reverb. but thats fine, i like to run a genereic reverb with a more atmospheric reverb pedal.

the morph function is for real. not night and day, but it does cover both sides of the pond.

very sensitive amp. and very sentive controls on both channels. you can get where you're trying to go.

yeah, i am new. but i feel like this amp will help my playing develop. i like all my amps,i have too many including 3 other small tube amps. but this one is a step up.

The perfect quiet amp

By Sweetwater Customer on June 17, 2021

Unlike a lot of cheaper low-power amp heads, this one actually sounds like a real guitar amp, with a really satisfying and glorious distortion breakup despite the low volume. You can run it at .1W and the distortion still sounds awesome. It does sound a little better when you switch it to 5W, and it gets surprisingly loud for how low-power it is. But you can run it at the lowest setting and just totally rock out without waking up your roommate.

Great Practice/Recording Amp

By Cary A from Los Angeles on August 28, 2019 Music Background: Pro Keyboard & Guitar Player

I"ve been through quite a few amps in my lifetime. I was looking for a reasonably priced practice amp. After watching Mitch"s demo of this amp I knew I had to try one. I"ve had this amp for almost 2 years now. I replaced the tubes with NOS American tubes and purchased the 1x 12" matching speaker. The clean channel is just OK, and begins to break up after 3 o"clock. It only has a tone control but can get some nice distortion for cleaner sounds. I have a couple of GWS speakers that I"m going to try and swap out to see if there"s any improvement in the sound.

The gain channel is very nice and the EQ is flexible. I"m not a fan of the reverb, but if kept low it"s acceptable. I haven"t used the direct outs yet so I"m not sure how the cabinet emulation sounds. I use a delay in the FX loop and it works well. The built in attenuator is a plus. I usually run it on the 1 watt during the day time and .1 watt at night. All in all, I"m very pleased with this amp & for recording it gives me the higher gain tones that my Fender 5e3 simply cannot achieve.

Killerrrrr!!

Bugera brings its A game!
Hands down the best amp you'll buy for the money.
Ive played marshall 800s and 900s and they dont bring the attitude this little amp does.
From the massive gain, tone morph and attenuation features it will awe you as it has myself and others whom i have shown it to.
Its quality of build stands clear over anything else in its class.
Its all i can do to stop playing.
Thank you Sweetwater!

Sounds amazing, I like it better than my Marshall Code 25. Sounds good for every type of music from Merle Haggard on the clean to Avenged Seven fold for my son. Even used it on my acoustic and sounded great there also, Got the Bugera 112TS 80-watt 1x12" Extension Cabinet with it.

now I can have tubes running hot in my living room. I dont like clean channel that much, it just has something is missing to me , OD channel is very good for aome stuff but it is not gainy amp. but I mostly play clean with mosfet OD pedal into it. That gives me a sound of Money for nothing from Knopfler and that sounds very nice. It is a good amp and with the power control is everything with amps at this power level. To have the volume on 8 and gain at 7 playing in living room . For me that means alot.

Excellent value... Great all tube amp, everything from clean to rich tube distortion. Clean channel begins to break up at about 3 o"clock, with excellent touch sensitivity. Super versatility of sounds. Check out Mitch Gallagher"s review (that"s what sold me). As always Sweetwater provides the Best Customer service and pricing available. I can"t believe that this amp is available at this price point. Every guitar player needs this amp in their arsenal!

After using solid state amps for the past couple years I just couldn't find the tone I wanted. The Bugera G5 with the 112TS cabinet has it. Tone is amazing. Has all the features I wanted headphone jack, aux in for iPad or other device, effects loop. Reverb sounds very good. Foot switch is heavy duty. Built in attenuator is great for home use. You can't go wrong for the money. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. And as usual the Sweetwater customer service is great.

Bugera G5infinium,Bugera 1-12,TS cab

By Ron Patterson from Beautiful central sunshine state on October 30, 2017 Music Background: Home musician

All,I’ve ever owned have been solid state amps since I was a kid, got back into music about 3.5 years ago working with Ryan Wiltermood in that time, he’s always been honest & straight forward in all my questions. I’ve researched & finally figured out what I wanted in a good tube amp. I first bought Bugera Bc-15 practice amp with preamp tube. After that, I had to go bigger. I bought this & matching 1-12 cab, and unboxed & was amazed with quality & looks. I was blown away how loud 5Watts could be!!!.This is exactly what I’ve been searching for. 5watt setting on 3 & wow better open windows so don’t blow them out. 1 watt very nice balance between high & low settings., truely great sound for just home musician. For me the true beauty is the .5 watt setting I set it at .5 watt, really hear amazing this sounds! Set volume about 2-3. & wow! Really hear all glory this produces at very low volume & still so much more to go. The morph control is another incredible feature. I think revereb really sounds great also .Clean channel is very nice, gain channel goes from classic rock to heavy metal sound. Yeah!!!The foot switch is constructed of metal.nice and heavy won’t slide around, big switches, should last many years.the foot switch has 2 switches, Reverb & channel & long cord also. Like some other reviews, that 1-12 cab is very well built, heavy, looks great. Really sounds great. Both handles are big , sits on top,of cab perfectly. Can’t wait to try out effects loop, but had to get back to work. For me this is best investment I’ve ever made & so happy with all features!! I always thought I would have to buy combo amp to get great features. But this is the best setup I’ve ever owned, looking to lifetime of great sounds & longetivity. 1 more thing the matching covers fit perfectly.. Thanks Sweetwater, hope this review helps anyone considering. IMO, won’t be disappointed.

great amp!!!

What can I say my ac-15 covered in the corner of my studio, and after changing to mesa boogie tubes, my Bugera G5 Infinium 5 watt amp head which is connected to a pair of Bugera 112ts speaker cabs is without a doubt the best sounding set up I've played thru. Guitars played are NOS Fender Custom shop Strat, 72 fender Tele, USA Epiphone Casino, PRS Custom 24. Its like all my guitars are new again, and I'm having fun playing. Small price to pay for such great tone and all you have to do is dial it in, also with such a liberal warranty what have you got to lose! Buy it.

G5 Love Affair

By Ikeus from Marionette, Wisconsin on May 17, 2017

Yep!! I am hopelessly in love with my new G5. 1/2 way on the reverb, emulated speaker switch to 4-12's , power to .1 watt. Distortion and morph about 1/2.
I am in ecstasy! These 2 tubes really make a difference! Oh yeah I live in an apartment complex with paper thin walls. No need for speaker cabs here. I have never heard
such great sounds thru headphones before.
My high dollar combo amp is now relegated to amp head stand status.
This amps for you if you looking for great tube sounds without breaking your bank.
Thanks Clint for speeding this jewel to me!

JCM 800 5 watt head!

By EJ from New jersey on May 1, 2017

I was really impressed with this amp stock but after swapping out the that it came with for a 12aX7 by Electro Harmonix i am now in modded JCM 800 heaven at super low volumes!
I do use a TS 808 for a boost in front but that is all, Also using the two 1x12" bugera cabs as a mini stack.
Been playing since 1980 and gear has really come a long way since i first started!
Where were amps like this back then? I would have killed to have this as my practice amp started out
but even now years and years later i am glad they make these at a affordable price.
Hands down the best mini head.
Definitely makes me want to plug in and play!

Best bedroom amd ever...and then some

By RIck from Chicago on December 13, 2016 Music Background: Intermediate rock/metal/blues guitarist, 30 yrs. experience

Great price, quality and value. For $ the features on this thing are incredible. 5 w down to .5, headphone jack, tube problem indicator, no biasing necessary, music input to jam along w/ your fave tracks, backing tracks, etc make this amp the best TUBE bedroom amp you can get. Many say it's a "clone" of the Blackstar HT5 but honestly, this amp has the above mentioned features and about 1/2 the price and the HT5 does not. Bedroom amp yes, and then I paired it w/ a Bugera 80w 1x12 cab. If you mic this, you could play small gigs for sure. There are alot of people who don't but Bugera because of so-called quality issues but I have yet to experience any and even if I do, so what. It was $. I payed more for my K.O.T. pedal LOL. But it, you won't regret it and do yourself a favor, ask for Ken. He is incredible. TY Ken and S.W. I'll never shop at that other big box retailer again.

Great tone at bedroom volumes

By J. Blake on December 8, 2016

This amp is really amazing, especially considering all that you get for a very reasonable price. Reverb, channel switching, variable wattage from 5, 1, and .1 watt selector- all very neat features for any amp this size. I waited a few months to write a review. I never write reviews unless I'm truly blown away. Now, with that being said, you have to understand what this amp accomplishes. This amp can cover a variety of styles, even into 80s rock territory. I wouldn't call it a metal amp necessarily, but it can get super saturated and heavy. But if you're looking for this to be your gigging amp, I would opt for the Bugera G20, the extra wattage should have more headroom at high volumes. Overall, a great amp with great tones, at a reasonable price and you can play at reasonable volumes.

Bugera G5 Infinium Head

By Mark L from NorCal on October 3, 2016

I’ve had my Bugera G5 Infinium now for about 6 months now and I have to say it is the best value for money I have ever come across. I have mine plugged into a 112 cab loaded with a Celestion G12T. I love the versatility that having 5W, 1W and 0.1W output gives you. At 5W it is a great studio amp and is also loud enough to use for rehearsals. The 1W setting is perfect for practice sessions by yourself, and the 0.1W setting is just the thing for practicing at night. Also, as others have stated, this amp has an unexpectedly high build quality for a budget amp and I must say it has strong looks as well. It does NOT look like a cheap amp! And the knobs and switches are solid and do not have a cheap feel.

The ability to plug in headphones or to go straight into a recording rig without having to mic the cab is very nice, too. Even though I actually prefer the sound of a mic’ed cab, the speaker emulation output is quite good (this amp gives you the choice between a 1x12 or a 4x12 emulation).

The only minor weakness to me, that I can even think of, is the reverb, which is okay but not fantastic to my ears, but I think as long as you keep the reverb knob at 10:00 or lower, it is acceptable. And I will probably replace the stock ECC83 preamp tube with something that can produce higher gain like a Groove Tubes ECC83-Select or a Mesa Boogie 12AX7.

But even as it is out of the box, this bad boy is a great amp for everything from blues and jazz to hard rock and old school metal.

Possibly the perfect practice amp

By PurpleDrank from Florida on September 24, 2016

I've had mine for about a year now and have a lot of hours into it. I bought this mainly as a practice amp because of the attenuator but was really surprised by how good this amp is overall. First off it has some really great clean tones, especially when they start to break up a bit. The cool thing is that because of the attenuator you can totally get this beautiful tube overdrive low enough to not wake the baby OR loud enough to play with a drummer. This is probably the perfect practice amp. The natural overdrive on this amp is fantastic all the way from the beginning of break up to full on growl. It starts to muddy up a little when you try to dime the gain into metal territory, but if that's your thing just dial it back and add your favorite metal pedal and it will take you there. Speaking of pedals, it takes pedals very well, but like I said this amp gets great natural tube overdrive all on its own so you don't NEED pedals. I love all the value Bugera packs into this amp, really all of their products. You get great tube tone on 2 foot switchable channels(included foot switch) Full eq control on the lead channel, good sounding reverb, built in attenuator that works really well, plus excellent fit and finish in a very handsome package, all for like 250 bucks. This is the perfect amp for a beginner, but even the most seasoned player would really enjoy this as a practice amp.

Glassy, Growly, and Great.

By Michael Thompson from North ogden, UT on August 25, 2016 Music Background: Gear tech

Bugera amps have been very unfairly misrepresented in forums and talked down on by people who heard about first run horror stories and were hating just tochate ever since. I have 3 Bugera amps now. The T50, G5, and V22. They have all been stellar amps and all have standard 3 year warranties, but I've never experienced any issues. For the money, there is no better tone. For the G5, We're talking a boutique style studio head with a lot of sparkling clean overhead, to saturated and dark tube growl, to lovely harmonics rich in color. It's for a great tone and tone control that is not stolen from bkackstar. (They didn't invent the tone pot, only their isf, which is patently different.) Do not be dissuaded by cork sniffers or haters. The reviews here speak for themselves. Listens to folks who actually own one and see what they observe. It's been an overwhelmingly positive ride with Bugera so far and as long as they're good to me structurally and sound wise. Then they're good products for me. Thanks to the sweetwater team and a special thanks to my sales engineer Michael.

Sweet Little Head

By Sweetwater Customer on May 22, 2016

I’ve had a some time to play with the new Bugera G5 amp head. I teamed it up with an older Peavey Sheffield 1x12” speaker cabinet. It has measured up nicely. I have played a Epi SG PAF, Les Paul hums & Strat/Tele single coils through the amp and it sounds good with all. It really likes the Les Paul hums. The vintage 59’s Strat single coils are a bit weak.

The most amazing thing to me about this little amp besides the price is the features it has. Line/phones outs with a 1x12”/4x12’ cabinet simulation switch. The G5 all tube amp has a tube health indicator and a self biasing function so you can switch tubes and go. This amp sounds great in all 3 power settings .01, 1 & 5 watt either clean or overdrive via a switch on the rear of the amp. Also on the back is… FX send/return, a ¼” line in for cd player or whatever. A ¼” switching pedal jack for the PEDAL THAT COMES WITH THE AMP! (shouldn’t they all) that switches the reverb and clean/overdrive channel on & off… That’s just the back panel.

The front panel has the input jack, clean channel volume and tone knob. A channel select switch that I’ll never use because THEY GAVE ME A FOOT SWITCH FOR THAT! Next up is the overdrive channel volume and gain controls as well as the “Tone Stack”- Bass, Mid, Treble controls along with a unique knob called Morph that lets you sweep between a US or UK sound… think Marshall/Vox knob. Very cool when used in conjunction with the Mid tone control. Then comes the Amber jewel power light alongside the standby and power switches. The standby switch also acts as a speaker on/off when using the Phones/Line out jack. All the knobs, switches, handle and cabinet feel solid and the material used to cover the head feels… well… supple.

I did quite a bit of research before buying this amp. I would venture to say that there isn’t another amp out there for, twice possibly three times the cost with all the features the Bugera G5 all tube head has.

As always David, you did a fabulous job getting my order right and to me quickly… less than 48 hours. Your packaging and shipping folks made sure my bag of candy was placed safely in the box which arrived to me without a ding.

I sometimes buy gear from other companies but after wonder WHY!

Holy crap!

By Shawn Royden from NY on March 30, 2016 Music Background: Plunk around in the den

Man, just got my head, threw it on my Marshall 2 x12, and started screamin. This amp is awesome. I didn't hook up any pedals yet, but could easily dial in diff tones with just the amp. 5 watts was louder than I could use, so set up at 1, and man I'll tell you I lost no tone what so ever. At .1 it gets a little muddy when pushed, but not enough to complain about. On top of all that it's a beautiful looking unit, much classier looking the pictures. Very solidly built. I've heard throwing in a JJ helps round it out a bit, but it is great the way it is.

Lastly, props to Sweetwater, very easy to deal with, shipped on time and arrived perfect.

Awesome Value

By Derek from Milwaukee WI on February 17, 2016

This amp is all about getting that sweet power tube distortion. I would say you could diffidently get a "brown sound" out of this amp. I would suggest swapping out the tubes though. I went with E.H. tubes and the distortion is much smoother then the stock tubes. The attenuator works well but I seem to loose some high end at lower volumes. It sounds best at full 5 watts with the volume past 50%. This amp can do so much. I've played it clean in church and I have rocked out against a 22 watt fender and it it cuts through just fine. You won't be disappointed if you choose this amp.

Incredible sound and value!

By Mark from Jackson Hole Wyoming on January 12, 2016

This head is so versatile it blows away the other small watt amps in this class! 1/10 watt, 1 watt, and 5 watt all sound great, even over-driven. I combined this with the Bugera 80 watt 1x12 speaker cab and the 5 watt setting on the head can rattle walls, yet can be turned down on clean settings to bedroom levels. At the 1/10th watt setting you can create a death metal rattle no louder than your normal tv. Love the Infinium Morph EQ and reverb. Oh yeah, and the headphone out is handy and a great sound. In short, buy it! For the price you will find nothing better.

Just as Described..Great Practice AMP!

By Chiselfingers from North Carolina on September 19, 2015 Music Background: Garage Jammer

I picked up this head to practice with. I also got the matching 1X12 cabinet. I own a Marshall tube head / stack that is to much in my Studio/spare room. I just couldn't push the amp. With this Bugera, the multiple wattage settings are perfect. I can select 1 watt and crank the volume and gain and drive the amp without busting my windows out. I agree with another review I read. This is a darker sounding amp. Nothing thin about it. It sounds great and is exactly what I was needing and with the price, it's a steal. Seems sturdy and well made. No cheap switches etc. 5 watts is loud !! and I believe it could roll with a drum kit in a garage. Whats great is you get the same sound and tone no matter what wattage setting you are at. I set it to .1 watt and jammed while my wife was asleep across the hall and it sounded great !

The biggest selling point to this is Patrick Schaefer's help and knowledge and Sweetwaters customer service. I got a call from Patrick Schaefer an hour after I placed the order telling me that it would ship that day, and I would have it in two days. That just blew me away. That kind of Service is a lost art with companies today. Thanks Patrick for all your help!! I could buy my stuff from anybody, but with people like Patrick and Sweetwater, they seal the deal for all my business!!

Better than Expected

By Jake on August 18, 2015

If you love tube tone but don't want to lose your hearing by the end of next week, consider this amp! There are a handful of low-wattage tube heads on the market and the G5 offers a lot of functionality for a very competitive price.

In my opinion, this is definitely NOT a gigging amp. 5-watt output can get pretty loud for a bedroom, but not very loud for a live scenario. You would never be able to feel this amp behind you. That said, even at 1-watt through 1x12", this is generally sufficient for a bedroom.

The power attenuation is a very useful feature because, even though they are all practice-level outputs, it allows you to cater to the size of the room that you're practicing in and keep your tone as pushed as it was before.

The clean channel can get pretty driven and breaks up fairly early with any sort of decent-output passive pickup. That isn't something I typically like, but I also don't typically spend much time on the clean channel anyway!

The gain channel sounds great, but VERY DARK. If you like dark tones, you'll be in heaven. If you don't like dark tones, don't even bother with this amp. I mostly use darker-sounding guitars and I had to EQ this amp at Treble 10/10, Middle 10/10, and Bass 4/10 to get enough clarity, but it is enough clarity. I also set the "Transatlantic Morph" all the way to UK and it just sounds normal to me, not particularly British as I would typically judge. It sounds great though. There is plenty of gain for hard rock and modern metal. Very few players would want more gain than this has.

The built-in reverb is usable. It isn't great and it isn't very spring-sounding, but there is a lot of it. There is actually so much reverb that anything past the halfway point almost sounds like you're using two standard reverbs and gets pretty messy.

The footswitch is metal and feels durable. I've had a few similar footswitches on other Bugera amps and never had problems with any of them.

The Infinium circuit is always helpful. I've used it to change tubes on previous Bugera amps and it saves a lot of time and trouble over biasing tubes manually.

One drawback about this amp is that there is only one power output. I have wanted to see how this would sound with other speaker configurations, but can't. Currently I'm running it through one side of a 2x12 and it sounds good enough.

Great sounding amp

By don from NM on July 16, 2015 Music Background: gigging guitarist 51 years

51 years as a gigging guitarist, owned it all twice.

i am primarily a marshall player. i love marshall tones. this amp is supposed to be a clone of the ht5 blackstar. well, it looks like the ht5 but it does not sound like the ht5.

i owned the ht1, ht5, ht 20 and ht 40. the cleans were sterile and lifeless. the gains were pure mudd at all gain/eq settings.

the g5 has lively, full cleans and the gain channel is clear, focused and defined at all gain/eq settings.

the enumerator switch works as advertised. the morph and tone stack are very powerful.

the fx loop works perfectly with my delay pedal. i dont use reverb so i never turn it on and cant comment on it.

build quality is as good as any out there.

ignore the cork sniffers. bugera has cleaned up their act and are building great amps at a bargain price.

i own the 6262, 333, tri rec, 1990 and g5. all have been just fine and sound GREAT.

sweetwater's service is #1 as always

Bring electric guitar to the coffee house

By Scott Mitchell from Monticello Utah on June 17, 2015

Great clean sound at low volumes (and overdrive),small ,low price. Has the needed options for my needs. I don't see why folks might think it is anything like a Blackstar. Way ahead of the game here. Never played the older Bugera and won't concern myself with their past. Don't need to. Will be looking at its bigger brothers soon for when more volume is needed. This baby settled a lot of problems for me. Smart amp!

This amp rocks.

By Jim from Gulfport, Ms. on June 13, 2015 Music Background: Few bands as a kid. Long time hobby.

I've had this amp for about a year. Havnt changed anything yet. Even bought the bugera 2/12 cab, the v one with the so called s#*ty speakers. This amp is awesome! I like the old school punk and oi stuff. Very authentic. (Fugazi, Minor Threat, old Agnostic Front. BadBrains.) This little guy is an amazing amp at an insane value. Auditorium style sound at 5 watts. Great for the bedroom!!! And if your in to writing any of that hardcore stuff. Cheers.

Great Amp

By Ray from Rio Rancho NM on April 2, 2015 Music Background: hobbyist

I love that I can get that full blown tube tone at a reasonable volume! I just needed a few alterations and now its perfect. I threw in a sovtek 12ax7LPS (the one used in mesa) and an electro Harmonix in the power amp and this just made the quality of the distortion solo much fuller an creamier, next I got a Jensen electric Lighting speaker into a homemade cabinet and wow this thing screams. Don't let the price throw you off this thing is built tough, ladden with features and loud for the same price of a rip off boutique pedal. Just need a good speaker a and good tubes can't stress this enough

Great Practace Amp

By Dave from Michigan on April 2, 2015 Music Background: Guitar Player/ Home Project Studio

I needed a practice amp that did not break the bank and the Bugera G5 Infinium is it!! You can blast at 5 watts or tone down to 1 watt turn your volume to about 1 oclock or louder and get a great tube tone without hurting your ears.Dont get me wrong 1 watt can jam pretty loud for a bedroom. I also love .1 of a watt at 3 oclock not loud at all but still has a full sound. I like the tone control because you can dial in any speaker or guitar you run pretty quick. reverb sounds great and the gain knob can go from a little overdrive to full out metal. don't be afraid to put it on 5 watts and plug into a 4x12 cabnet sounds great. it also has a cab simulator you listen to on your headphones or record. it sounds good but I got it for practice in my bedroom to keep my chops up. I love it!!

Bugera G5 Infinium Tube Amp

By Leeward from Rochester NY on February 12, 2015 Music Background: Inspired Hobbyist/Student

This is my first tube amp, own several solid state and solid state modeling amps
This is a great and affordable entry level tube amp, the sound is much thicker compared to the solid state modeling amps that I own. Great features include .1watt setting, output multiple impedance settings, headphone jack, and pedal for switching channels between clean and overdrive.
Clean is very clear and the overdrive has the authentic classic rock sound. I cannot emphasize the sound quality enough, it is very noticeable better than my modeling amp set to emulate overdriven tube amp. I was happily surprised as to the difference.
I will not go back to solid state. I will buy another Bugera amp as they offer a great value for those looking for a better sound.

The little amp that could!

By Big Ric from Albuquerque, NM on November 3, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician turned hobbyist

I was a little doubtful of this amp, never had or played a Bugera before. I have been through numerous little amp heads during the past few years and ultimately was still looking for the one that would be a keeper. Well, after three weeks of testing, tube rolling, and trying various speaker combinations and running straight to the P.A. I can say this is the one! For studio work, late night practice, or to work a silent stage this works for me. For the P.A. or recording just leave it in stand-by and go line out to the board, you don’t need an attenuator or speaker load. Effects loop works great. Footswitch is heavy duty and has LED readouts for channel and reverb. It seems to be well made and for the price it is a bargain. I ended up with gold pin EH 12BH7 and a premium 12AX7, but the stock tubes are still quite good. The Bugera Infinium series do not need to be re-biased when changing power tubes, how cool is that? The clean and distorted tones are great and there is plenty of room for tweaking your sound. Not a lot of difference to my ears between the USA and British knob, probably my only criticism. All in all this amp has all the features I need and at a very reasonable price.

surprisingly good! it worth every penny!

By Edian Salomon on October 26, 2014 Music Background: musician for 33 years, studio and live engineer

This head have all features a guitar player need, the bugera tubes are ok, but I replace the preamp tube for an ElectroHarmonix after testing other brands like JJ, Mullard, and some others, but the richness of the EH makes this head sound so nice and warm, I used a celestion Eight 15 at first time using it, and the sound wasn´t bad, but i recently purchased a celestion Alnico gold and it made a remarcable difference!
you won´t believe that sound is coming from an amp of that price!
I just Love it!

I 've had my Bugera G5 for a few weeks now and I am extremely satisfied with it. The G5 offers alot of performance and features for the price. The reveb on this unit is nice and natural and the overdrive full and smooth. The variety of great tube tones from clean to overdriven are excellent and numerous. The Morph EQ lets me chose from US Clean to UK warmth and everything in between. Love the effects loop and footswitch. The emulated headphone output sounds good too. The G5 is a solidly built unit and has exceeded my expectations.

Bugera G5

By Joe Bag from FL USA on October 4, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist 30 years

Excellent value here.

This is basically a Blackstar HT5RH clone with the added benefit of a built in attenuator. The G5 can 5w, 1w, or .1w

The 1/10th watt setting is fantastic and keeps the volume whisper quiet for late night playing.

I bought the G5 as a replacement for a Blackstar HT1RH. While I liked the 1w Blackstar, I often wished it had tone controls and an effects loop.

The G5 can do it all and I think it's the ultimate bedroom amp right now. Even comes with a nice foot switch.

My first tube head amp

By Vern on October 19, 2023 Music Background: Guitar lessons as a kid. Was OK player. Recently picked my guitar back up after a 40 year break. Never shoulda quit. Am loving it!

Been practicing with it about 2 weeks. I like the features, especially the channel selector for overdrive. OD channel sounds awesome! Running it through a Marshall 2x12 cabinet (another first for me and probably overkill). I give it 4.5 stars because I like it a lot but not comfortable, nor experienced, saying 5 stars it's the best. Am pleased with this purchase.
Would recommend to friends. Props to sales engineer Evan Neiman for help and support on my decision making.

Good little bedroom and recording amp

Happy with this little amp... Using for home recording. Wanted to scale down from 100 watt head... Rolled the dice and am pleased that I did.

The tube sound and feel you are looking for.

By Tone 4 Days from Reynoldsburg, OH on March 24, 2018

A great little practice amp but could be used live depending on the size of room and if running thru PA and monitors. I replaced the stock tubes with JJ's and it does sound a little better but it sounded pretty good stock so don't feel like you need to make the switch. The "feel" of the amp as you vary the dynamics of your picking attack is top notch and you can still "feel" it at very low volume levels. If you are thinking about buying another gain/distortion pedal for your current amp, get this instead...so much better!

Great, Affordable Amp

By Matt from Raleigh, NC on July 19, 2017 Music Background: Hobbyist

I'm giving this 4.5 stars for the combination of price, sound, and options that this little tube head offers. I've had the Bugera G5 for a couple of months now and I am very pleased with its tone and performance. I have my Bugera hooked into an Eminence 10" Red Fang speaker (which is also a great, affordable speaker, in my opinion). I have a Peavey Classic 30, which I really like, but don't play as often, because the bedroom volumes I often play at just don't sound as good to me as the G5 at similar volumes. I also have an Epiphone 5 watt Valve Special which I am now using as a cab to run the G5 through the Red Fang speaker. I could never get a tone I liked out of that Valve Special, even after dropping the Red Fang and JJ Electronics high gain, low output tubes into the thing. I play the Bugera just about every day. It sounds good on its own, and it takes pedals very well. For $250 I got a two channel tube amp with a "Morph" feature ( basically, a copy of the ISF feature from Blackstar), a quality, built-in reverb, a foot switch, an effects loop, a built-in, nice sounding, functional attenuator (I often run it in 1 watt mode) and tube monitoring technology. No, this isn't an amp that will blow you away with boutique quality tone (whatever that may mean) but for me, it is turning into a practice workhorse that allows me to play in any style day or night, and allows me to experiment with the pedal board, or boards that I am currently constructing. The only quirk that I noticed about this amp was that the ISF, or "Morph" only works on the gain channel and doesn't affect the clean channel, However, the clean channel has its own tone knob, so I can still shape the tone on the clean channel. I think for anyone starting out, or anyone looking to experiment with different equipment, Bugera and Behringer are making some functional, great sounding, affordable products.

Unbelievable for the money.

By Chris from NYC on June 12, 2016 Music Background: Session/gigging

This is a great amp, unbelievable how many tones you can get out of it! The attenuation works well and it gets decent volume for being only 5watts. I'm using this just for home studio work but it seems like it would do well with small venues.

There are of course issues with it being this cheap(still over all totally worth it) - first and foremost the reverb is a little tricky to reign in; it will increase in intensity the harder you drive the volume but at least when you turn it off it stays off.

The only other problem I've had with the amp is the variance in tone between the clean and the overdrive channel. Either channel sounds fine on it's own but it's not really natural sounding switching between the two.

If this is your first time moving into the tube amp realm this is definitely a great amp and even if you're looking for a cheap knock around head you really can't go wrong.

Solid recording & practice amp

By Walter from Bayonne NJ. on February 20, 2016

Very nice low wattage head reminds me of a mini version of a JCM800 tone wise.Seems to be very well built & it's a lot louder than one would expect for only 5 watts. In fact, I've only been able to use it in 1 watt or 1/10 watt modes for the most part.I paired it with my old ADA 2x12 that's loaded with 50W Celestions to create a mini stack for home recording use.The emulated outs seem pretty solid through the headphones I will know more when I use them to record. The Morph EQ control is a pretty nice addition that makes the amp more versatile tone wise.I got a Mod Tone Dirty Duo overdrive for the front end & it works really well with that.I'm going to add a nice delay to the FX loop soon & after that it should be one killer mini-stack rig.The clean channel is nice but wish it has it's own three band tone controls. The reverb is OK definitely better than the Marshall type spring ones which I never use but it's a little sterile sounding. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.Great customer service & super prompt delivery.

The perfect amp head.

By Mark A from New Jersey on September 26, 2015 Music Background: Was a drummer for years, now I enjoy playing guitar.

First of all I give it a 4 1/2 stars because I know their are better amp heads out there, but you don't know what you really like until you play one and the hairs on your neck stand up. I bought this without ever having played it, but after seeing Mitch play thru it for a Sweetwater review I was sold.
Fit & Finish,,,The Bugera G5 is very stylish, comes with a very nice digital reverb, effects loop which sounds wonderful with my Digital Delay, A nice clean channel that sounds great with overdrive, distortion, and metal pedals
( just picked up the Behringer Ultra Metal pedal, in a word UNREAL thanks again Sweetwater) The G5 is very clean in appearance, and looks like a much more expensive head. The Bugera logo, the silver piping and the thick padded handle complete its very well thought out design.
The Sound,,,To me it shines a very nice clean channel with only a vol. and a tone control, with a Les Paul I'm able to dial in the tone I like without a problem ( used with an eq pedal your tone possibilities are endless )
The Dirty Channel,,,First off I switched out the Bugera 12ax7 glass vacuum tube for the New non glass tube made by Jet City RetroValves I purchased the Red for higher gain, it sounds remarkable, you don't even need an overdrive pedal more then enough gain and sustain to make Dirty Channel tone geek happy, you are almost in metal territory, out of the box this amp is made for rock and roll,,,Zeppelin,,,Ac/Dc,,,Deep Purple, Stones you name it this amp can handle it.
I matched this up with the Bugera 2x12 cabinet, I'm using a delay directly into the loop and two Behringer pedals, Ultra Metal and the Tube amp Modeler which come after my Cry Baby Wah and I more then happy with the tones I able to get, I really like this tube head a lot, its a KEEPER and at $249 its also a No Brainer,,,Thanks to Sweetwater for their help and their speedy delivery.
Bugera has made one fine product.

great bedroom amp for a great price!

By Thomas from Fort Wayne Indiana on March 14, 2015 Music Background: bedroom rocker

I went to Sweetwater about a week ago and bought a 1 watt blackstar. It was ok, I wanted more channels and effects loop. I research amps in the price range i could afford. It come down to two amps, one was the g5 and the other was the v22. I wanted the 80's metal tone I love so much. So back at Sweetwater I went. Doug was great! ..he pulled both amps from stock for me to play...first one open was the g5 and 1/12 cab...my brother play some songs as I played with the controls..wham!! To my surprise the tone I was looking for right away. ..I couldn't wait to get it. I know that I didn't have to try the v22. Iam sure it's a great amp and I could have added pedals for distortion. But the Burgers G5 5 watt amp was hard to pass up. It has lower watts (bedroom player), the tone I want out of box, and definitely in my price range. Don't go by YouTube videos, go try one yourself!!! Then call Doug for a sweet deal!!!

Great tube amp for home

By Steve Sorich from Santa Clara, CA on March 11, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist, music student

Looking for an upgrade from the solid state practice amps I've been using for the past couple of years and after extensive research, settled on this amp as it has a power soak feature that allows for quiet bedroom play so as not to disturb others in the house. Just got it set up so have not explored the amp fully but was impressed with the sound even at the .1 watt setting. As usual, my buying experience with Sweetwater was great and appreciated the assistance from my sales engineer Nate Edwards. I will not buy from another online or brick and mortar vendor as Sweetwater provides great customer service, fast shipping and expert advice. This sounds like an ad but is not, just a great experience with Sweetwater!

Really the "Sound in my Head"

By Mark from Tampa, FL, USA on December 1, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

First let's talk the good, and there is much to talk about with this G5. The features you get with this amp for the price pretty much knocks everything else out of the park. Namely, the fx loop and the attenuator, going down to .1 watts! And yet, it's still loud! The "UK" side of things is all things Marshall, more on the side of jcm 800 or 900, it really gave me the tone I was looking for a la early Oasis, Shed Seven, and will give you the slash tone you want. On the "US" side of things, sure you can scoop the mids and play metal, too. A lot of gain on tap.
The clean is hard to pin down, but I'm getting everything from tweedy cleans to voxy breakup. I would say to run this amp through a quality cabinet for best results. FX loop sounds awesome. Reverb is springy-ish, but without the spring if that makes sense. 8 ohm speaker out so you can run with most cabs.
The .1 watt mode is a little fizzy and cuts a bit of the eq's out, but still sounds decent and useable.

Excellent Value

By Sweetwater Customer on October 22, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

Great Sounding little tube head - sounds every bit as good as another little amp that it's features are nearly identical too, but with the added benefits of allowing you to change the power tube without re-biasing and a built in attenuator.
Clean Channel surprisingly good. The dirt channel is a tad compressed but also capable of just amazing tones. My favorite is to use a 5751 as the preamp tube and use it at 1W for practice levels. This lets you crank the levels and get a fantastic saturated tone.

It is well, a tube amp.

By Raul Chavez from DANVILLE, VA on July 6, 2022

This amp rocks but I run it kind of weird. I have all the tone settings set to 0 volume on 10. I run an EQ through the loop to shape my tone. On the clean channel with a little delay and tad of overdrive I got Knofler, Clapton, and E. Johnson sound. I really don't use the gain channel I have a Marshall and pedals for that. Great little amp.

Works for me!

By Sweetwater Customer on February 18, 2020

Great little dependable amp. I play thru a fender tweed 12" hot rod deluxe cabinet, which I installed an Eminence cannabis rex speaker. Also use that cabinet for stereo setup thru a fender blues deluxe combo.(which can get a bit too loud at home sometimes!) The lower wattage was the main reason for the purchase. Also have the fender super champ x2 in a combo with an Eminence Cajun speaker I installed. And the super champ head over an Eminence cannabis rex. These could all get window rattling loud, when hitting the sweet spot! Don't have that issue with the Bugera, have only used the 5watt setting. I like the various tones and hard hit tube sound available at a reasonable volume. Play mostly country and blues, performs well with single coil or humbucker pickups without background hiss or noise. Use a few pedals, blues driver, Emerson pomeroy or Memphis sun occasionally, with a Boss volume pedal.
Same board for all the amps. I have had no problems with the Bugera and would recommend it,to anyone wanting a small venue amp, I think the pedal came with it, the cover is an option. Sweetwater and their staff are amazing!

A good buy...

Im running thru a 2x12 cab and after a little knob turning i found some pretty nice tones. the clean chan. was smooth and balanced, the overdrive chan. produced a tight defined tone when flavored with the morph and tone stack..reverb was acceptable..i used several guitars..all strats with EMG..s.duncan and fen.texmex ,,,all sounded good. I am very pleased with this purchase....and of coarse sweetwater rocks

Gotta like it

By Joe from Texas on August 11, 2019

I have had this amp for over two years now and I can say I really like the amp and tend to use it more often than not. First of all, I want to say I have had absolutely ZERO problems with this amp. I saw so much bad talk on the internet about Bugera amps and how they break down, catch on fire, etc, etc, before I bought this amp. Also, my response to one review claiming "do not buy" because the tube sockets are mounted to the circuit board is that it is bs and is has not been an issue. I changed the preamp tube multiple times, and the power tube a few times, during experimentation with the drive channel and had no issues. I tried several makes of tubes, and while none that I tried were awful, I finally settled on NOS GE tubes for both the preamp and power sections. You just have to find your preference. Anyone should be able to find tone(s) you like with this amp. The tone stack and morph control work very well and allow you to really fine tune your sound. The clean channel is good and takes pedals well but I mainly use the OD channel. It cleans up nice when you roll the volume on your guitar down. As others have said, this amp really changes depending on the speaker/cab you use. I"m currently settled with a Greenback (excellent suggestion by my sales tech Tomir!) in a birch and pine semi open back cab I built (yes, both woods in the same cab-call me crazy) and I and everyone that hears it, thinks it sounds great. My guitars are set up with the Seymour Duncan hot rod set. It also sounds huge with my 2X12 loaded with A-Types. The effects loop works well and I like that it has the two volume settings. The headphone output works good with a decent pair of headphones. This little amp does get pretty loud but it couldn"t keep up with my drummer friend during a jam. I don"t consider him a "loud" drummer. I have an "82 Fender Champ II (Rivera-era) and the G20 (that"s another experience/review) for that. The variable power switching is cool but I don"t use the lowest setting. I use the 5W setting most of the time and I feel the amp sounds best when you crank up the volume and back off on the gain. I typically do not write reviews on anything, but wanted to share my very positive impression with this amp. I know there are lots of us out there that can"t afford the extreme high dollar stuff, don"t gig nightly, every weekend, or are on a world tour, but want something that sounds good.

With the right cab/guitar combo this amp makes it easy to gig/practice.Low operating noise, takes pedals with little or no hiss, clean channel is limited but overdrive ch. cleans up nicely when you roll off the guitar volume.Tried several speaker and cab combinations my favorite was a Marshall open back 1x12 with a Mesa Black Shadow.

Nice Amp

By Les on December 8, 2018 Music Background: Guitar and Bedroom Producer

A bought this to play around with and to pair with a vox AC15 for big sound in little rooms.

I plug the G5 into a fender BB1112 cab. I run the lead channel with the gain about as low as it can go and I can get a decent classic clean/grit sound that works great for me.

I put some electro-harmonix tubes in there and it lost some volume and smoothed out the peaky high end. A nice improvement for what I'm looking for.

Some things could be better :

- the reverb is a digital spring with sound quality at about the game boy level. It's really bad. However, there is loop in the back of the amp that works great for plugging a decent reverb into the signal.

- the clean channel is very clean. It's got peaky dynamics on the attack of a note. The front of the note jumps right out even when you compress before hitting the channel. The EH tubes smoothed it out a bit, but it's still there and I don't like this channel even though I prefer a mostly clean sound.

- the lead channel gain control has about 10% use of range and the later 90% just goes into pure white noise as far as my needs go. I can get what I want as far as preamp gain, but i have to run the gain at about 5% and it's a bit noisy.

- I don't understand this morph knob. I wish they gave it a label that matched exactly what it is doing. It's all marketing talk when I would prefer to know the specifics of what it's doing. Some kind of EQ connection to the middle knob. The USA side sounds woody, the BRIT side sounds scooped. I just leave it in the middle.

I think I would have been happier with the even cheaper 5watt head bugara makes because most of the features here are not required - such as two channels and a terrible reverb and over gainy pre-amp.

I'm going to try some different pre-amp tubes and maybe that will get me more range on the gain knob.

Conclusion : I was not sure at first, but after my cab broke in and I found the sweet spot on the amp (very thin spot for me!) I have come to really like this little amp and I would recommend it. I wish this kind of tube amp for this price were an option when I first started playing guitar years ago.

An great bedroom amp if you want a gainy sound, but there are better options if you want more of a classic sound, such as a fender pro jr.

Excellent tube amp under $500

By RM from Columbia, MO on November 4, 2017 Music Background: Social Player - Not a pro

The Bugera G5 replaced a Blackstar HT-1R that had a thin sound and only lasted four or five uses before developing a problem with hum and low volume output. After opening it to check the tubes and seeing the design and build quality, I realized I had made a mistake an bought the Bugera G5 Head as an upgrade bedroom-type amp to mate with my Blackstar HT-808 (4x8") cab. I have tried and own several other small tube amps, including the Fender SCX2 with a Jensen 10" speaker upgrade, and a Vox AC10C1 with tube and Celestion Greenback speaker upgrade. Those are both are too loud at 10 and 15 watts for home use when family is around in my small 1,600 sq. ft. home.

Upon arrival, it powered on, but there was no sound as the pre-amp 12AX7 / 83ECC tube did not light up. Replaced with a Chinese-made 12AX7B tube I pulled out of the VOX AC10C1, left over from replacing those tubes. The G5 head sounded kind of "meh"; somewhat dark and dull on both channels. The initial build quality was good.

Rather than complain to Sweetwater about a bad tube, I ordered one JJ 12AX7 tube and one Electro-Harmonix 12BH7 Gold Pin tube ($40.00) based on reviews and suggestions I read from others who had also purchased the G5. What a difference it made. I tested playing through a Gibson LP Standard w/57's, and a Fender American Strat with 50's PUPs. After several days of playing through this little amp at 1W and 5W settings, I realized it sounds like my '76 Traynor YGL-3 mark III; an 80 watt 2x12" beast that I love, but cant play in my house. The clean channel to me is very good and close to a Fender with a boost in front of it. The drive channel is also very good and can get you close to that Marshall stack sound. Both channels react to volume roll off on the guitar with amazing sensitivity considering the low price of the amp and tubes. I can see myself using the included switch to go between the clean and drive channels during a song without pedals. The clean channel does take all my pedals well, including germanium fuzz. I usually leave the Morph setting halfway between US and UK. The tone stack allows for excellent reproduction of heavy distortion and 80's metal. For more modem metal with super high gain, you will need a pedal on the clean channel. The reverb is surprisingly good.

I have not yet tried a single 10" or 12" speaker cab. I have not tried the headphone jack. I have also not yet tried to use the FX Loop with a delay or tremolo. When using the built-in attenuator to achieve 1W output, it sounds very close to the 5W setting, just lower volume. When set to 0.1W output, it is good, but to me you lose some of the mojo or presence you would get at the higher volume. Great amp for not only low volume practice and beer drinking jamming, but can play a wide variety of music with and without pedals.

I wont give it 5 stars because nothing is perfect. I would give it 4.5 stars if the included tubes were of better quality, but that would likely raise the price. So, I rate it 4 stars. After upgrading the tubes, it is the best bedroom amp I have tried so far.

NOTE: When changing the tubes on this amp, you will not be able to pull them out from the tube base as the metal housing surround the PCB and tube socket prevents you from doing so, forcing you to pull from the middle of the tube's glass globe. Therefore, ensure you wrap the tube in a cotton cloth before pulling and moving the tube back and forth to prevent cuts in your hand if the tube breaks, which happened to me when removing the 12AX7 tube. I had to remove the remaining pins with needle nose pliers and use a vacuum to remove the glass shards from the PCB and tube pin sockets.

Great first tube amp

By Sweetwater Customer from Sedona, AZ on July 28, 2016 Music Background: Hobbyist

So, I'm an intermediate hobbyist, and after several SS amps and digital sims, decided to go for the real thing with this one plus the matching 1x12 cab. I play mostly metal and some clean, and the stock tubes were not satisfactory hence I take off a star, but with advice from my very helpful and knowledgeable sales tech James Shilliday, I replaced just the preamp tube to a Tung Sol 12ax7, put a Behringer Overdrive in front, and now this thing sounds amazing. I didn't replace the poweramp as I don't play loud or gigs

The power attenuator is very useful, and I only play at the 1 or .1 watt setting, and somehow find that I get a tighter tone and saturation at .1 watt for in-room playing.

For this price, I think it is the best deal out there.

Probably the best value in tube amp going

By Scott from Tampa FL on January 24, 2015 Music Background: Guitarzan

First, lets talk about the clean channel. It has one and it sounds OK. If you want clean sounds at low wattage, get a LP and unplug it. You'll become ten times the guitar player you are now, and you'll learn what tone wood actually means. Moving on...
The gain channel is where all the fun is. If you just dime it, you're going to mush land. If you take the time to adjust it, there's not going to be much you can't make this head do. The only thing I've not done with it is a serious no mid all low chugga chugga that makes your eyeballs rattle in their sockets at any volume. It's a really specific sound, and so far, you need a pretty specific amp for it. This does nearly anything else. From growling blues to screaming metal. (And yes, you can put a Bad Monkey on the clean channel. But if you do this for any reason, other than to see what it sounds like, you're fired.) I did quite a bit of shopping before I purchased this amp, and I can say with confidence that it's the most feature packed head for the price. Two channels and the gain channel has a full EQ. That's already beyond the feature list of most inexpensive tube amps. Add a quite nice reverb and an FX loop, and there simply isn't anything else in this price range. If you have a specific reason for buying a more expensive low wattage amp and disposable income, then go for it. If you're trying to get value for your money for good sound, get this. You won't regret it.

sweet amp

By 52Tele from Mpls. on September 18, 2015 Music Background: slinger

Sounded pretty dark and sort of lame at first. I had previously coughed up for some high end tubes to put into the amp, figuring stock tubes would be functional at best, and hopefully not damage the amp at least.
The amp CAN sound much better given great tube set. Still just a tad dark, but a very sweet crisp sound.
It's much more controlled and tighter with the new tubes. I used a JJ long plate/gold pin 12AX7 on the front end also tested for microphonics. I did spend some time to find top end tubes. The output used a 12BH7 which I found an RCA NOS to install. What a world of difference in tone, tonal bandwidth, articulation, brightness and a very full bodied bottom end to boot! Adequate tone stack.
For the 2.5 clams they ask, (plus tube costs) it a nice amp, and hoping the good tubes gains it some lifespan; with luck!

Good for the price.

For the money not bad. Good options. Looks great. Hard to read the tone knob descriptions. Effects loop adds a lot of options. Sounds vastly better with a good EQ pedal. A little flat without one IMHO.The on board EQ is nothing to write home about. If you had to go with just one mini head, I would recommend the Peavey ValveKing 20MH. The comparison between the two without any pedal assistance is not even close. Peavey has really created a masterpiece with that one. This one with some help though, can sound very good.

The amp is too quiet

By David from Chicago on September 15, 2019 Music Background: Metal

Don't listen to what they say "5 watts is like 35 watts in tube amps" that's not true this things so quiet it could barely drive the orange 1x8 speaker I have. The clean channel is exceptionally quiet. While it is quiet and everything it does actually have a really nice time but soon after I returned it and got a louder more versatile and much more light 100 watt boss katana amp for cheaper. The reverb is nice.

Fairly Lame, but Not Terrible

By B-rizzle from Nashville, TN on February 8, 2015 Music Background: Has-been

I would have liked this as a bedroom amp, but I was looking for a cool recording tool. Unfortunately, I did A/B tests against other amps/heads through multiple cabinets, and this thing just sounded weak and fake. I would recommend it for fun and practice, but not for serious tone. The features are cool (even if not original), and the tone is way better than you'll get with the digital modeling garbage, but it's still not going to hold its own in tone wars against real amps.

BOMB

By Drew on January 20, 2019 Music Background: Owner of six other guitar amps

After only 2 years of light use, this amp has failed. Having spent over $200 attempting to have the unit repaired - have had to admit defeat. Quality tech Greg Burns of Hobart states "this unit is basically not meant to be repaired. Be prepared for major bills if you try to get a Bugera fixed.

IT'S NOW ON THE TIP !!

Wont be buying anything branded Bugera again.

Segregated Tone stack?

By Gary from Florida on September 21, 2017

I don't know where to start, this is the most unusual amp I've ever plugged into and NOT in a good way.

OK, maybe a pedal freak with the amp set on overdrive at full volume really can hear the nuances of the tone settings (which I doubt) but an amp maker disabling the tone stack totally on the "CLEAN" channel completely mystified me.

The "clean" channel is weak, sterile and definitely not for me, it has to go back.
