Yamaha FC7 Volume/Expression Pedal Reviews
The FC7 is a heavy-duty volume/expression controller with "fortissimo function," which enables the user to accent certain parts of a performance. Adjustable pedal angle, spring point adjustment and a metal connection plate for multiple pedal "ganging," add a unique touch to this volume controller tailoring the pedal to various playing styles. The FC7 can also be utilized with the DG Series amplifiers.

Don’t overlook this pedal
I purchased a Yamaha YC 88 and wanted a couple of new expression/ volume pedals for it. I wanted quality pedals, and this is the pedal that was suggested when I was researching the YC. I must admit, for the cost I almost passed. That would have been a huge mistake. I would've never guessed that a pedal of this quality would sell for such a low price. I've used many different pedals over the past 50+ years in working bands. In my opinion the quality of this pedal is as good as any that I've owned including my Hammond expression pedal I have no still use at a cost of about 6 times the price of this Yamaha FC 7.
Very Helpful
This Expression pedal really added a lot to the usefulness of my Yamaha MO6 when using it in concert with my Yamaha TF77 and Moog Matriarch for producing music. Works exactly as needed.
Great pedal works perfectly
I needed a pedal for my old Yamaha S90 XS, playing primarily organ patches in a last minute gig. This pedal was perfect. Beefy construction, grippy feet and heavy enough to not slide away on a hard surface. I can go from full throttle all the way down to absolute silence. The size and weight gave me a really good feel and control of volume. I highly recommend this pedal.
Perfect as expected
Replace same volume pedal after 25 years of gigging.
New is same but cable a little heavier.
Sweetwater/ Mason always on their game an I appreciate it !!!
Dandy Pedal
This is a very lovely little pedal. It works just fine. It was just the pedal i needed.
Perfect Pedal
This pedal is so easy to use. A great investment!
love the added capability
Most of the arranger keyboards I've used have had one pedal input, usually for sustain. My PSR SX700 has two and they have assignable functions. I've played organs and keyboards all my life, but the organ voices on the keyboards I had did not allow for dynamic volume changes, such as the foot pedal on a large organ. Adding this pedal to my 2nd input gave me a foot pedal volume control with the organ voices which was great. The thing is very sturdy and it does have a set screw to set the cutoff point. It allows me to use the organ voices with more dynamic expression that is typical for a keyboard.
Great expression pedal for organ players
I bought the Yamaha FC7 to use with my Legend Solo organ. I have Roland expression pedals, but I was looking for something with more pedal travel and sensitivity for the organ. The dynamic range of pedal is closer to that found on a vintage Hammond. This, plus the responsiveness/sensitivity of the pedal across the range helps with subtle adjustments when playing. The pedal itself is wide, and it has enough resistance under foot that it stays "put" if I lift my foot off of it. Again, this feels more like the action on a "real" Hammond.
I was concerned about compatibility prior to buying it, but right out of the box it worked with the Legend. Little to no adjustment needed.
The pedal earns the fifth star because its a great value. A "name brand" pedal for a house label price. Sturdy. Good ergonomics. Easy to use.
Nice pedal!
I have used several volume pedals and this one is as good as any! And less expensive!
Good Volume Pedals
The Yamaha FC7 volume/Expression pedal is a very good pedal for controlling Vol or Exp I've used these plenty of times over the years. They are well built and dependable can be used with multiple brands.
Perfect all-around expression pedal
I'm a gigging musician playing/traveling regularly and have recently purchased a Hammond XK-1c digital organ, and did due diligence researching volume/expression pedals. I'd decided on this pedal based on the manufacturer and price, and could not be happier! This pedal is heavy duty and built well, just stiff enough travel for the finest of adjustments while performing, and no compatibility issues between my Hammond, Korg keyboards, and ASM Hydrasynth Deluxe. Personally I like that it has a wider base than it's competition, specifically that I perform with 6 dampers and pedal switches including this expression pedal, and never have I 'accidentally' knocked the side of the pedal and tipped or dislocated it during a live show, maybe a little too nerdy of a point, but bottom line I LOVE this pedal! 5 Stars!
Yamaha Volume/Expression Pedal
Awesome works great with my Yamaha MX88.It's built solid. Thanks Pat and Sweetwater.
It's a volume pedal... but a good one!
Seriously, it's "just" a volume pedal. That being said, it's fantastic! The throw is even and "heavy" (which feels good below the foot), the build is super-solid. Not much else to tell. It truly is great!
Pedal
This pedal works wonders with my MODX7.
FC7 foot pedal
Great addition to the bands keyboard. Simple one-wire hook up your up and running. It eliminates all the extra wiring that I used before on a regular volume pedal.
Good quality construction and stays in place on the floor.
I recommend this Yamaha FC7, Great quality and price. Sweetwater's shipping is fantastic.

Yamaha FC-7
Well made and reliable. All my expression pedals -I have six, are FC-7s and I've been using them for as long as I can remember without a single failure.
Long time user
I've got 5 of these things (6 if you count an FC9). What can I say? They're built to take it and work when you need them to. I love the linkable feature and the user adjustable options. Definitely a winner.
Yamaha FC7 Pedel
Excellent expression and volume foot pedal I use it on my Yamaha arranger piano keyboard!
FC7 Pedal is a MUST for Organ voices, & Super-Articulation voices!
This Yamaha FC-7 Volume Pedal is invaluable to my setup; as it allows seamless, smooth Volume changes for Organ voices (while keeping both hands on the keys which is well, what organ playing is). Also, the FC-7 Pedal allows you to take full advantage of Yamaha's "Super Articulation" (S-Art) voices as again, both hands can remain on the keys while you use the Pedal to make the articulation effects activate. Examples: hand-slapping on the body of the guitar, or breath sounds for woodwind instruments, etc. This was a great add-on to my music workstation!
works perfectly, solid comfortable
In this case the Yamaha original part is your lowest cost option. It works perfectly with the PSR 970 - remember to go into settings -> "controllers" and set the pedal plug you're using with this pedal (2 in my case, I keep 1 for the sustain pedal) for volume control (or whatever function you want from it). The default's not necessarily going to be activated for a 2nd pedal.
It is very solid, no slip, and super comfortable for my foot. Really enjoy using it. Great value for the price too.
Great
The pedal is awesome well made, works as it is supposed too , and all the people from Sweetwater have been amazing to me , what a great store thanks.
Cheers. Mike
Yamaha Expression pedal
This E press ion pedal gets the most out of your Yamaha PSR, especially organ flutes. This is not the sustain pedal.
Yamaha FC7 Volume pedal
I needed a volume pedal that would work with my Nord Piano 4 and Sweetwater came through as usual. The Yamaha FC7 works perfectly with the Nord piano 4 and Logic Pro x.
Yamaha FC7 Pedal
The pedal performed flawlessly. Perfect. This pedal is used in our church with a Yamaha CP 4.
Fc7
Great pedal
FC7 Volume/Expression Peddle
Bought this for our Yamaha S90 SX Synthesizer in my music studio This peddle is very high quality works flawlessly.
Works wonderfully with Montage.
This is a great pedal, especially for the Montage and works perfectly to control the Super Knob. Could also be a volume pedal as well but it's awesome as an expression pedal.
A real expression pedal!!!
I had bought Moog expression pedal, for my 2 korg keyboards, there was dead spot where mid range volume should have been and one even had a short when pedal was "reversed"(pedal moved to upward position). they are pieces of junks, probably made only for Moog.
Talked to Paul E. when I ordered Yamaha, told him of situation, recommended these pedals. Took a chance and ordered 2 Yamaha FC7. I got them, plugged them in each keyboard and they worked as nice as the B-3 pedals do. (Like some fool, I sold B-3 years ago when I bought 0/1WFD) There was no change in quality nor signal loss with these pedals.
Thanks Paul for all the professional help you rendered me and helping me make sure they were correctly hooked up.(Korg keyboards has a polarity function in global mode, no need for pedal polarity switch) One keyboard is an 0/1WFD (30+ plus years old), the other a Krome. You've got my business from here on out. Did I mention only a 2 day wait for delivery?
Yamaha FC7
Well built and doesn"t slide around.
Great company
What great people to deal with. If I ever need anything else your my go to people. Thanks
The best
This volume/expression pedal is by far superior in performance to anything else out there. But the durability is amazing. I have had to buy only three over the last 30 years! And that is with heavy usage. So even if you play/gig/record regularly, count on this pedal lasting at least 10 years… Unbelievable value.
FC7 Pedal
Typical high Yamaha quality. Now my vintage DG-Stomp is very happy, as am I. Thanks again, Tyler!
Volume/Expression Pedal
Originally I was looking for a volume pedal that I can use with my MoX6 Yamaha but this FC7 gives me more options than one. Sturdy built and I"m sure it will go a long time. I would buy this again in the future.
People, it just works
I've been using the FC7 for a month or so now with my Nord Electro 3 and it has made my life so much easier. It helps to play the B3 sounds so much more accurately. I'm glad it's solid, so I won't be replacing it any time soon, but when it does finally break, I will be getting this same exact one again!
Perfect for Organ Patches
I own at least one of them all. Those others work fine for guitar pod pedal uses. But this is the ONLY ONE that emulates a Hammond swell pedal. If you set it up correctly, it allows extra travel for a volume boost (Fortissimo Function) to feature your solos, without grabbing your volume knob. The low end of the decrescendo is a smooth evaporation, instead of the abrupt mute the other pedals deliver.
Perfect for Nord C2D Organ
I purchased a Korg Exp‑2 Expression Pedal to work with my Korg Kronos 2. However, it works terribly with my Nord C2D that just came in the mail.
The Nord C2D has a menu setting that allows you to select a popular brand expression/volume pedal calibration (Korg, Yamaha, Roland, etc.). Selecting the Korg pedal calibration did nothing to fix the fact that, given an audio range of 1-100, the "climb" to 100 resets when you get to 30. This results in a horrible-sounding drop in volume back to 0 to as you try to increase it. This does not happen on the way down.
With that said, the Yamaha FC7 is highly praised in many forums across the internet for being perfectly compatible with Nord instruments, and works perfectly with my Nord C2D (Very smooth). It's sturdy, won't move around on you (rubber gripping), and has an adjustable angle option.
FYI: the TRS cable is built into the pedal, and you will need to attach the pedal to its base when you open the box for the first time.
Yamaha FC7 Volume Pedal
This pedal works perfect not only with my Yamaha keyboard but also controls the other keyboards volumes as well.
Very pleased
A generous full size pedal, for a full size guy who dislikes anything wimpy. I have two of these now...
Well built
Very well built and large footprint. Big enough I can quickly find it without seeing it. Stays in position where I want it and also keeps from sliding quite nicely. Packs away when not used great too. The cable fits inside to keep it as compact as you can get while keeping the cord safe and sound.
Good pedal
Got this for a Yamaha MX, it does exactly what it's supposed to do, and it doesn't skid around on the hardwood floor while it's doing it. Not too heavy to be impractical, but heavy enough that it stays put. A good buy.
Just what i was looking for in a pedal.
Very good volume pedal at a great price. And Sweetwater got it to me quick.
Best Pedal For Organ Swells!
I had one of these with my Korg CX-3 for about 12 years, never had an issue! Sold the CX-3 and bought A Nord Electro 4D and needed volume for organ, same exact design I've relied on for years, and so far its great! Feels really good, and I can STAND on it if I need to! Highly recommend, and as always Simon Picazo was outstanding!
Great quality, well built pedal
This is a fantastic pedal. Based off of the pictures, it looks a little flimsy but that is not the case. I've been using it with my S90 XS for a couple months, and it has done great. It is really nice to be able to pump up the volume for a lead break or something.
I have been very impressed with it, as it has a very smooth action, and feels solid. Because I usually stand when playing the keyboard, there are times when I actually stand on the pedal (using the other foot for the damper pedal). Even this hasn't impacted it poorly.
I actually may get a second so I can control different Parts separately.
Great Keyboard Volume (Expression Controller)
Love this pedal! I use this with my Kawai MP6 stage piano, and I can not tell you how frustrated I was with the Roland EV-5 pedal for the MP6 board. This has great weight, good movement smooth midi response throughout the range and you can gang these with additional pedals as well. It also has an adjustable angle for playing from a seated or a standing position as well as a spring loaded adjustment for momentary maximum pedal travel as well. Love this pedal!
Perfect Pedal
Excellant quality very smooth action
No problems.
Same as Motiff
Superb quality for a bargain price
I just received this pedal and am extremely pleased with it. The quality is superb, the action is beautiful. I use it with my Yamaha S90 and it's just what I've been looking for. Elsewhere I've read complaints about not-so-smooth volume adjustment, but since this pedal is wired for my keyboard it is perfect. If you're working with a different brand keyboard and you're experiencing jumps in volume adjustment, look for the FC7X or FC7X-II. This inexpensive adapter should fix the wiring issues. This pedal is well worth the price, and then some.
FC7
I have only had this for a month and I love it - stays put, does it's job. Will post back in a year to let you know how it's holding up.
Great Pedal for the Money
Works great on Stage 3. I use one for organ swell, and the other for expression. Both work great and it seems like the build quality will last a while. However, this pedal is not compatible with the Arturia MatrixBrute. No regrets on this purchase other than I now have two spares since I can't use them on the MatrixBrute.
Yamaha FC7
Excellet pedal it is right for my need really work
Pretty Good Pedal for Keyboards
Good Stuff: Tough plastic construction, good grip on the plate, smooth gliding and quiet mechanism. Low profile wedge is nice and close to the floor so you don't have to sit high to get comfortable - feels fine from any piano bench.
Bad Stuff: Doesn't always return to 0 after a full swing. Got some dead zone that can be annoying if you don't have a 3rd party tool to calibrate extremes. These problems go away if you do. Got myself an Audiofront MIDI Expression to handle all that.
Yamaha FC7 Volume/Expression Pedal
Received my FC7 and am very pleased with its performance.
A solid pedal for the studio
This is a solidly built pedal, doesn't add noise to the signal chain, and does what it's supposed to. I like the adjustable angle and volume. I use it with both keyboards and guitar.
I used a heavy duty Korg XVP10 (with the stainless finish) for many years. This isn't quite as hefty as that one, nor does it support the stereo I/O, but this is a great addition to my studio and for a very reasonable price.
If you need a stereo pedal, a more road-worthy pedal, and have budget, check out the Korg XVP20 as a solid alternative (note however, it's about 3x the price).
For basics though, this one is hard to beat.
Yamaha FC7 Volume/Expression Pedal
The expression pedal works fine for me. It took some effort to switch the configuration to the seated position. It took a little time to configure the Hammond SK1.
Great pedal
Great pedal, very durable, works with my keyboard psr s770, for volume, modulation, pich bend and many more functions. I was a little disappointed with the wah on guitar but it has nothing to do with pedal but with my keyboard. Because you can't just add wah to any guitar voice u need to select a filter for the guitar that is pedal wah control which doesn't sound as good as regular distortion. Sorry if I'm not being so clear I don't know how to explain it without looking at the keyboard. Anyway the pedal is very good don't take my complaint into account it really a 5 star I just gave it a 4.5 because of my keyboard. l would recommend it to a friend.
Yamaha FC7
great product
Typical Yamaha
Like every Yamaha product I've owned, this is well engineered and well manufactured. Pedal has smooth action and is heavy enough that it doesn't want to "walk away" while using it. I use this on my MOTIF XF8 as an expression pedal and will soon buy another for volume. What's also nice is that two or more pedals can be ganged together for a custom, compact look.
Very Good and Well Built Volume Pedal
I am using the FC7 Volume Pedal on a Yamaha MOX8 and it works great. For the piano presets I leave the volume pedal all the way down all the time but for strings, choir and pads I use the FC7 for expression and dynamics, Works Great, Highly Recommend...
works with Nord Stage
Works With Nord Stage EX. Heavy - stays put. Not a 5 b/c I'm not good with soldering.
great pedal
great pedal, hasa long swing so no sharp changes in volume like the morley I used to use.
Fabulous pedal, great price, works with Roland too (see review)
Like the other reviews say, one of the very best pedals around. Nice long pedal sweep range (super for organ work or other delicate control), stable, doesn't move around.
Only negative might be the cable being hard wired to the pedal. If it were a simple plug-in cable, if damaged it could easily and swiftly be replaced with another in a live gig situation. The way it is should it get damaged on stage you'd better be fast and handy with a screwdriver and solder iron.
To work perfectly on Roland and other kbd brands, you just need to reverse the polarity on the jack. (If you're not up to wiring your own adapter, spend a few bucks on the FC7X or FC7X-II adapter cable mentioned in the other reviews here - just google for it - and your FC7 pedal will work fine with all kbd brands.) You could reverse and re-solder the wiring right at the pedal, but then your FC7 would no longer work with Yamaha gear. Once you have an adapter jack you’re always set for any keyboard. (Would be super nice if Yamaha would just put a polarity switch right on the pedal like some other manufacturers.)
You can also y-jack the pedal into two (or more?) separate kbds and control each at the same time with one pedal. **Note: If controlling a Yamaha and Roland kbd together, the polarity adapter jack mentioned above goes on after the y-jack, then into the Roland. If you put the polarity adapter before the y-jack then the Roland will respond fine but your Yamaha kbd won't respond correctly.
Buy the pedal, you won't be disappointed. At this price nothing else even comes close.
Great feel, super features, bargain price
I've been using two of these for about 3 years. They are built like a tank. In fact, I bought another "major brand" expression pedal a year ago, which cost more than twice as much as the FC7. It was made cheaply, and felt like a toy. The FC7 is easily adjusted for players who play standing or sitting, and the spring action and solid-construction are top notch. I have even purchased adapters so I can use these with Roland and other gear that have different wiring configurations.
FC7 Yamaha volume/Expression Pedal
I was disappointed in the fact that my Yamaha keyboards are out dated and the pedal didn't work the way I wanted on them. I am not a piano player so I use the computer side of the keyboard programs. The pedal doesn't control just the right like I hoped it would. It does however work like I wanted on my Casio keyboard so when I am playing the Casio I really like it.
Yamaha FC7 volume Pedal
Delivery on time as always. Dependable product as to be expected from YAMAHA.
smooth action
Responsive and smooth action.
Excellent pedal
Using the FC7 with my Hammond SK-1 73. Plug and play, works great.
Perfect pedal
This pedal is exactly what I wanted for my Nord electro 3. Nice balance and nice swell in volume.
Pedal works great
Quality in manufacturing. Feels sturdy. Works just the way I wanted.
Nice Pedal
This pedal works very good and does what it's supposed to. It seems to be a very durable pedal. The adjustable angle is also a nice feature...just make sure you get it tight after you change the angle. :)
Cautiously optimistic
This is the third one of these I've purchased this year. I don't know what's going on but the first two that I purchased failed after a few months of use. When they fail, they fail at full volume. Because I'm actively gigging and rehearsing, I chose to just purchase another one as they failed rather than go through time consuming warranty returns. So when the second one failed I decided to go through Sweetwater for my third so I could get technical support if needed. I'm using the pedal with an old Yamaha MO6 keyboard. When they failed I tried them with my other keyboard, a Roland X7 and they wouldn't work there either. I disassembled the first one and they're pretty simple, just a variable resistor and the wiring was intact. I don't abuse my equipment, and I keep the pedal in a padded accessory case when transporting. So, let's see how long this one lasts.
Other than the failures, it's a good feeling pedal with smooth fluid motion and linear expression response.
Solid, but check it with your keyboard
I bought the FC7 to replace a Roland EV-5. I like the sturdy construction (compared to the Roland's plastic), but it definitely weighs more when I'm hauling gear (then again, it stays put on the floor). Strangely, though, I can't get it to work as well as the Roland pedal with an M-Audio 88es. It seems the "sweet spot" for volume change is only a few degrees of travel. From 0-30% it's quiet, from 30-50% it's controlling volume, and from 50% up, it's full blast.
When I hooked it up to my Yamaha S80, though, it was a completely different story. Response was smooth, and the "swell" feature worked as advertised. I'm going back to the Roland for a gigging pedal, but I'm keeping the FC7 for my studio setup. My advice is to check it with your keyboard, and play around with the adjustment settings before you toss the packing material.
not road-worthy / not the best design
I love the extra 10% gain functionality it gives you. It also feels good when using. But the problem for me is that the metal-clip they use to hold the pedal to the body gives out constantly when moving/transporting. I had 2 of these mounted onto a pedalboard. When the clip would disengage, I'd have to take the pedal off the pedalboard in order to get to the screw for the clip (it's on the back/under side) and hook things back up. The problem really isn't the clip but the plastic that the clip grabs onto. The plastic is just too flexible and doesn't have a big enough lip to lock in a grab, so the clip pops out of it's lock-state too easily. I was never able to have anyone help me move my gear because these things were so sensitive.
Bottom line: It's just not road-worthy. My Boss FV500L are way more solidly designed and built, but they don't have the 10% "kick-in" for solos that this FC7 does.
