Rode Deadcat Artificial Fur Wind Shield Reviews

An absolutely great solution for wind noise. I do a good deal of outdoor recording in the spring, summer and fall, and anything from a lite breeze to outright windy days can spoil things. I HAD been using a traditional foam windscreen (Pic 1) for my mics [AT-2035] but was frustrated with the results. I have some Audio Technica AT-2035's and now AT-4040's. [I don't use them on Rode mics oddly.] While those fit snuggly and completely covered the mic mesh, even slight breezes showed up in the recordings.

So after checking about the dimensions of the Rode Deadcat, I bought 4 without having used any, but I was not disappointed. From breezes to outright moderate winds it does a great job of knocking wind noise out of the mix.

Here's how an AT-4040 looks with a deadcat on. [Pic 2] There's a little room leftover on the end, though it is stretched all the way down to the base of the mic holder / shock mount. I'm beyond pleased. It works well and surpassed my expectations.

I do most of my filming by the ocean where it's pretty much always windy for most of the day. The Rode Dead Cat knocks down the wind noise to an amazing degree. So glad I bought this, I no longer have to find 'hiding places' from the wind or try ridiculious methods of trying to block out the wind.

I also wanted to address the concerns of others about the dead cat fitting to snuggly and being hard to attach. Rode must have heard you because it fits perfectly for me. The smooth inner lining helps it glide right on OVER the foam. Rode still hasn't put any directions in the bag...but if you can put a sock on to get dressed in the morning you should be able to figure this out.

Great, great addition to the RODE VIDEO MIC. Very effective at eliminating that unwanted bit of wind that kills the sound when recording. A must-have if using an external mic.
