Takes a while to understand

I recently bought the DeBreath to eliminate breathing in my audio tracks and when I first tried to figure out the plug-in it took a while even after finding videos on youtube on how to use it, but it"s a great plug in if you aren"t trying to manually take out breaths in your projects. P.S Be careful on when setting your levels on the plug in; DeBreath might accidentally "Noise Gate" some of the words your speaking

Best I've Found

Good news...this is by far the best DeBreath available. Bad news...this can be useless depending on the type of breathing involved. First let be point out that the name of this thing is misleading because, while it does "de-breath" (completely remove breathing noise), it can also be easily set to reduce brathing noise should you want breaths left in at a lower volume. I'm a male narrator and this works really well on my narration. My wife also narrates and it doesn't work well at all with her narration. Her breathing is admittedly more pronounced than mine with more treble. I think this confuses this software. I've tried "fooling" this software by EQ-ing her vocal track to make her breaths more managable but I always wind up having to repair chopped off words and partial breaths. I've wasted a lot of valuable editing time trying to make this software work with her breaths and now I don't even bother - I adjust her breaths manually in less time. I love it for my narration - hate it for hers. The Waves support team has been top notch except when I asked them if I could send them a file (my wife's narration) and have them effectively apply this software and send me the settings. They said they have no way of playing her file on their computer. It's a simple WAV file! So, I was not amused by their response that particular time. I've tried several other similar products, but this one does do the best job, and, as with all of Waves products, it is extremely intuitive with almost no learning curve. I use also use Waves NS-1, Vocal Rider, which I highly recommend.

Not what I expected

Seemed to work good at first, but even reviewing my timeline real-time in Reaper, there are instances where it sounds like the breath has been removed by Waves, I'll render it, and the breath is still there. Then there are other times where it says the breath is still there, I'll remove it, and the breath is NOT there.

But even worse, I find that some of my lower-register, breathier parts are cut off as well, even though reviewing it in the timeline they're still there. And again, or vice versa. So its truly frustratingly inconsistent. And I'm not using the default settings. I've experimented with the noise floor, threshhold, et al, room tone on or off, etc., and it just is so wildly inconsistent that it's not worth it.

Does not work well

This plugin unfortunately does a very poor job of catching all breaths and also makes my ableton lag. I would not recommend. Barely catches any of the breaths when mixing hip-hop tracks. Do not buy.

Since the early days of DAW software, Waves has been a dominating force in music and audio production. For those of us here at Sweetwater who've been recording since the industry switched over to computer-based studios, it's impossible to imagine sessions without L series Ultramaximizers, MaxxBass, and other staples. Since then, we've been impressed every time Waves has brought top producers such as Jack Joseph Puig and Chris Lord-Alge to Sweetwater to show off their next cutting-edge creations, and Waves is constantly adding new and innovative plug-ins to their catalog. And with cool new gear such as their SoundGrid series, Sweetwater engineers have discovered just how easy it is to use Waves plug-ins live.
