A Special Keyboard for a Special Venue

By Paul from Olympic Peninsula, Washington State on April 18, 2024 Music Background: I've played 61 years of my life. Maybe some day, I'll figure out how, but for now I'll keep chasing the muse...

I needed a middle-of-the-road performance keyboard for a small, gourmand-related, family-owned and operated venue. It had a horrible acoustical quality, so I also picked up a special amp for it. But right now, with a headphone amplifier and earbud addition coming out of a split cable from the back of the keyboard, I am loving what I can do with this keyboard, although I haven't quite yet taken it out for a full on, multi voice ride over "Route 66" or something thereof. That might happen quite soon, though.

Outstanding if it is what you are looking for

By Sweetwater Customer on March 25, 2024

I think the DGX670 is a killer device if you are in the market for what it provides. I played piano for years, then didn't...for even longer. I missed it, but didn't want to invest in an acoustic piano, nor did I want the size and weight.

I knew I wanted a piano for my home that gave me an acoustic piano experience, but also didn't want to spend too much in case I actually didn't miss playing as much as I thought I did. I liked some other products much better (2-3x the money)- ie close your eyes and you couldn't tell you were playing a digital piano. This one sounds like an acoustic, but the keys are ever-so -slightly different - i'm going to say this is a 97% vs acoustic feel for me, everyone will have their own view of course. It has more features than I'll probably ever get to, but I like knowing they are there so I can fiddle with them eventually. If all you want are the piano voices, there are probably different (better?) options. For me this hit the sweet spot.

Not Kidding - Truly Awesome!

By PAUL SANTA MARIA from WESTMINSTER, MD on February 6, 2024 Music Background: 60 year professional guitarist/bassist/music composer with 4 Daytime Emmy awards.

Just purchased this keyboard (the bundle with the stand and pedals) and I first want to say that the entire affair is absolutely AMAZING engineering - from the shipping box, internal packaging, manuals to the keyboard itself! If you buy the stand and also the pedals, (which do more than just standard grand piano pedals - they trigger sounds and patches and not even sure what else just yet!) you will have to assemble them - yet I am 70.8 years old and my wife is 67.4 - we put the stuff together in less than one hour! Every single screw was engineered to just thread properly without having to force anything. Everything lined up line a charm. Really 5 stars for not only the depth of sound (we haven't even tried the drum patches or the styles - just some pianos and accordions and so far everything is quite amazing) but the build and sound quality coming right from the internal speakers!
One thing - it is HEAVY - we got our young man who cuts our lawn to carry it into the house and paid him a tip. If you are over 55 years old maybe, you might want to get help getting it in the house, but once you open it up and take all the parts out it is more manageable - but the piano itself is still heavy, so get some assistance.
As for the sound - my wife is over the moon with the FEEL of the Keyboard itself (she is an accomplished pianist who knows a good feel to the keys, but try one yourself) and the sounds. I myself am a longtime Sweetwater customer and a recording studio owner, a guitarist for 60 years and a Film score composer and I am really going to be able to use this guy! For the price, I think this is the best darn deal I have ever come across - it should cost a thousand dollars more.

Awesome

By Jerry H from Arkansas on December 6, 2023

Primarily purchased for my grandson. He loves it. I already had a Yamaha DGX660. The DGX670 is the updated version of the 660. Very happy with the purchase. My sales engineer is Jim Swain. He is very knowledgeable regarding audio products and is great to work with.

Also purchased the stand built for the DGX670. Makes the DGX670 complete. Very stable.

Yamaha piano

I LOVE my new Yamaha digital piano. The options are endless and so much fun. The feel and touch when playing it is phenomenal. I can play for hours. Thank you for offering an incredible instrument.

I bought more than one!

By Buddy Keys from Dearborn Heights, MI on June 30, 2023 Music Background: 42 years experience

Solo singer here. I had the Yamaha PSR-SX9000 but got rid of it because I really needed 88 keys plus a great sounding piano. The DGX 670 price is GREAT! I worried that the weight would be a drag but it's not. I built a keyboard stand on wheels and just slide the 670 onto it to get to a performance area. I drove from Detroit to Sweetwater's Indiana location and thought I went to music Heaven! I love that place! Enjoyed being helped by Cleet in keyboards. Enjoyed selling stuff at the Gear exchange helped by Bobby. I use the drum machine 100 percent at bar gigs. The full accompaniment feature 15 percent maybe. I fell back in love with the GHS action. I have used the built in speakers at Assisted Living gigs. Really love how you can subtract bass if playing with a bass player. Love being able to increase/decrease accompaniment volumes of individual instruments. That's why I returned a Roland E-50, which did have a great action but, Yanaha's rhythms/styles are the best. Funny how they don't put out a stand alone rhythm machine exactly like the one in the 670. Wish they had a stand alone triple pedal made for musicians who don't use the optional stand.

Best buy for a small studio piano on a budget!!

By Stephen Schedra from Middle Island, NY on March 13, 2023 Music Background: Singer songwriter, worship, ballads, jingles and themes.

I am not a classically trained pianist (self taught). However, I do have a discerning ear. I wanted an electronic piano that felt and (especially) sounded like an acoustic piano but had more creative bells and whistles than the lower-end pianos. I am so glad I bought the triple pedal unit as I would not have learned the nuances of half pedal and other techniques available through the Yamaha pedal. It was also important to me to be able to feed the keyboard to my DAW (Logic) and get at my library of samples (DGX I/O is analog headphone and there is MIDI) have seen a few reviews with mild complaints about the 670, but I find it hard to hold those against this fine product. First of all, this unit is under $. It is NOT a $ workstation or stage piano.

I do agree that the label "portable grand" is a bit comical, but every professional reviewer mentions the weight. Also, when you do a feature compare on the Sweetwater web site, that spec is clearly evident. Additionally, my Sweetwater Sales Engineer (Stuart Niven), always patiently asks me what I am looking for and how I intend to use the product. This has saved me from disappointment and steered me right on many purchases over the years.

The quality of the piano sounds is wonderful! The fact that the CFX Grand is the default power on sound was a shrewd decision by Yamaha. I always have trouble moving away from the beautiful VRM modeled Yamaha grand set in its subtle environment.

Super articulated instruments are a great feature, especially the sax, flute guitar and organ with Leslie (rotary). They allow for some very convincing and evocative playing to add to any recording (or solo with a accompaniment mode).

Strings and voices I am not too impressed with, but I have been using orchestral and choir libraries for years now and so I'm a bit spoiled.

I would probably want more on the pads as well, but again, I have libraries.

Using the accompaniment mode is pretty straightforward and impressive when using the adaptive styles, as this mode changes the dynamics and styling of the accompaniment to match the dynamics of your playing. One of my favorite toys is to choose the 70's Glam Rock style and play Elton John's "Rocket Man" (Oh man!)

If you are inclined, the environments, effects, and levels can all be edited so a lot of subtlety can be achieved. Just press the mixer button and get lost in the creative caverns of consummation!

The DGX670 does not do everything, but I would dare say it delivers more quality sound and creative power per dollar than any other sub $ piano.

Outstanding!

By Tony C. from Bucks County, PA on January 25, 2023 Music Background: Studio Musician, Radio Host

If you're in the market for a portable arranger, look no further. You won't find a better product then the Yamaha DGX-670 at this price point. Forget the negative reviews because this keyboard does all it is hyped to do. Great sounds, nice weighted keyboard, intuitive layout and minimal menu diving to achieve what you are attempting to do. I only wish it had more power and dedicated audio outs, but that being said, the sound is truly awesome. Sweetwater, once again, pulled through for me...and a shout out to Delvin Wolf for all of his help.

Happy

We love our new keyboard! The sound is great!

Mine is a dgx-505, and outstanding

By Will David Mitchell from San Diego, CA on October 18, 2022 Music Background: Play/own all common instruments professionally.

Amazing!! I would imagine that this is an improvement over my old dgx-505, if that's even possible. I have played a top end KORG several times in church, and I think my DGX-505 is quite superior. When called, I bring in my Yamaha to use. Or at weddings, etc. Very close but lighter touch, to the feel of my Steinway piano, which is a bit stiffer than the usual piano. I've recorded commercial CDs on this, solo, and could not say greater things about it. If you're serious about better music, by all means get one. If you just love to play, Get One! To you!

Oh My. I've had many more expensive keys, but never any better.

By Jeff Payne from BEAUMONT, TX on October 14, 2022

This is a well-built, solid, beautiful board, both sonically and aesthetically - worth every penny. A professional keyboard at a consumer board price. I love the AI for Yamaha styles playing. The pianos are second to none.

Absolutely amazing!

By John on September 8, 2021 Music Background: Drums, keyboards, guitar.

Yes! Absolutely amazing! Especially for the price! The sound quality, the weighted keys, and the amount of sounds is off the charts! For a keyboard like this, you would be spending thousands of dollars, easily. Way to go Yamaha, way to go!

A company with integrity!

By Raymond M Golley from NJ on June 17, 2021 Music Background: Love to Play!

Early in this year I saw a Yamaha DGX670 demo and immediately fell in love with the instrument.
Other music companies had nothing but excuses as to why they couldn't ship one, except Sweetwater…
They said they would email as soon as they received an order and they did.
I placed the order and a few days later the instrument arrived. They provided tracking and follow up emails
to insure the instrument arrived safely. Sweetwater is a first class company that does what they say they're
going to do with no excuses… That's Integrety!

Excited

By Ed Yoakum from Florida on January 23, 2021 Music Background: Five years-. Close to 100 original created songs.

Upgraded a year and a half ago to Tyros. Sold mu DGX 660. I have missed the beautiful Piano sounds and the installed backgrounds that worked for easy listening ballads. After watching the reviews I am blown away with the DGX 670. This really make for a difficult decision since I was strongly considering the PSR sx 900. That may have to be put on hold for a while. I am excited about the new DGX 770. Guess I have a second chance to get back to the DGX but with new great improvements.

I own it - Honest review

By Denise on August 20, 2021 Music Background: Play for the love of music

The DGX 670 is a disappointment. I have set up on the furniture stand and it has the 3 foot pedals and it is still ugly. I can deal with that but I have to say in all honestly is has the cheapest feeling keyboard. The sound is average. The keys are super slippery. Even with all the bells and whistles this is not a product I can recommend. I own a Korg G1 Air, Korg Microarranger, Yamaha P105 and all are superior IMO

Great Value, Great Sounds, but Rude

By eugene abraham from Indiana on June 27, 2021 Music Background: Composer and player since 1969

The sounds are better than expected, and the action is very nice! As usual tho, Yamaha makes it very difficult to do even basic things. Simply trying to compose/record multiple MIDI tracks takes quite a bit of research and trial and error. The keyboard powers up to the first sound as opposed to the last sound used. Great hardware quality, horrific, complicated, non-intuitive, arbitrary recording menus for what should be simple and straight forward record and play.

It's built like a Sherman tank, and is similar in weight.

By GRB from Denver, Colorado on June 1, 2021 Music Background: College Degree in Music History

I just received mine today. In its shipping box, it was a beast to move up 1/2 a flight of stairs. I had to get a neighbor to help me. If you buy the accompanying stand set the side pieces to the widest position as apparently this stand is used for some other keyboard that isn't as wide. This thing is just too big and heavy to want to move anywhere. The thing that really makes it seem like a grand is that it is difficult to move.

If you are looking for a concert pianist's instrument where you can really blast away, I don't think this is it. The samples are quite nice and the various pianos do have personality, but the key dip does seem slightly shallow. I really haven't played it much yet, but my initial impression is that it is a very personal instrument that is very enjoyable if you don't try to over-play it and try to make it into something that it is not. It's best played with a light touch. I have it set to the hardest touch, which actually produces a lighter more controllable tone when your use a physically light touch. if you set it to "light touch" you are likely to over power it, and the tone becomes more uneven and less mellow.
