Yamaha DBR10 700W 10-inch Powered Speaker Reviews

700W Bi-amplified Active Speaker with 10" LF Driver, 1" HF Driver, Onboard Mixer, and DSP (each)

Delivering an accurate, controlled performance, the Yamaha DBR10 10" active speaker can withstand a whopping 129dB SPL. Using the latest DSP, Yamaha applied their proprietary FIR-X tuning to optimize the sound and protection algorithms of the DBR10, providing you with plenty of muscle, despite this active speaker's rather diminutive size. Incredibly versatile, you can use the DBR10 as a great-sounding main speaker or as a high-performance floor monitor with a quick flick of the Yamaha DBR10 10" active speaker's D-Contour switch. A switchable highpass filter also makes it easy for you to add a subwoofer to your rig. Sweetwater has put together countless live systems over the past three decades, so give us a call. Yamaha speaker

I am using this speaker as a floor monitor. Works great for our 4 piece band. Plenty of power, easy setup, great clarity.

For keyboards, DBR10 hits the sweet spot of sound, size and afforfability

By Jerry from Utah on February 13, 2024 Music Background: Gigging keyboardist

Tired of lugging my Roland KC400 to gigs, I started looking at powered PA speakers for my Nord Electro 6d. The KC400 sounds great and has enough power for small and medium venues, but it's bulky and weighs about 50lbs.

I listened to QSC CP series, EV ZLX, and Yamaha DBR12 and 10. I chose the DBR10 for its size and clear, detailed sound with good bass extension. For the first gig last night, I set it up about 3 feet above stage, switched DSP to FOH and added some EQ (more low and less high) on the Nord piano. Piano and B3 sounded fantastic through the DBR10 and it had more than enough power for a medium sized restaurant. Best of all, it was a breeze to transport at only 23lbs and half the size of my keyboard amp.

I highly recommend the DBR for gigging keyboardists. As with any amp, it takes a little work to find the best settings and placement. Because the DBR doesn't have EQ, it probably pairs best with keyboards that do.

Thanks to Skyler at Sweetwater for the helping me get the perfect solution for my needs.

Great speaker! Very reliable.

I purchased this speaker from Sweetwater almost 6 years ago and it's still going strong. I use this connected to my Line 6 Helix as my main speaker at home and monitor for worship leading.

Portable

Lightweight and very powerful little speakers backed by a 7 year warranty. Excellent loudspeaker for small to mid size areas. Add a couple good subs and get the party started. I use them for gaming also. Running a pc thru a mixer to them sounds great in the office :-)

Yamaha DBR10

By Doug Todd from Rochester,NY on October 19, 2022 Music Background: Guitar player. Sound Tech

I do live sound for bands and was looking for a small speaker I could use as monitors. I've been using Yamaha DXR12 's which are a great speaker but bigger and heavier than I wanted to carry. I bought 6 of the DBR10's and they are perfect for me. I set the volume level to +3dB and they match up to the DXR12's very close. So far I'm very happy with these little 20 pound speakers. They look great and take up less room on smaller stages.

Yamaha DBR10 Suits My Needs Perfectly

By Ben from Tallahassee on September 27, 2022 Music Background: No worse than yesterday...

I bought a pair of the DBR10's. I use them for rehearsals and solo performances, usually employing one as a monitor and one as an FOH speaker. They can be driven by just about any mixer, but I run mine from the microphone outs on a Digitech Vocalist Live 4 (VL4) unit. I only use them for vocals, but they can also be used to amplify the guitar output from the VL4. I choose to run the guitar signal through a 15-watt 12" combo tube amp. The DBR10's perform very well in this configuration. I like the way they sound, and I find myself concentrating more on the quality of my vocals now that I can hear myself over the mix. They have plenty of volume for a small-to-medium sized room/venue. The input/output options and tone controls make them versatile and allow for a seamless addition of subwoofer(s), if desired. Lastly, I can't say enough good things about the customer service and support at Sweetwater. My sales "engineer" on the Sweetwater Choo-Choo, Mitch Dazey, is great to work with.

Small Speaker, Big Sound

By Kevin from Pennsylvania on September 26, 2021

I have two of these paired with two 15" RCF sub woofers and we have two guitars, bass, drums and vocals and we play in bars and small clubs mostly. I unboxed them and thought I made a mistake but when I powered my system up I was surprised. We play modern rock and i do mic the guitars and drums but not the bass and three of us sing. We keep our volume at reasonable levels and they perform flawlessly at every venue. Super light and easy to put up and take down from the speaker poles with one person. They sound great outdoors too! The amps are barely warm during use and I am very careful about clipping and other issues with over driving them. I am thinking about getting another set just to have as a back up or in case we start playing outside venues more. Crisp highs and smooth mids and bottom. The subs take car of everything under 100 hz. Great price and service from Sweetwater as usual.

Big Sound.. Little Speaker

By ThrashTim from So-OK on May 11, 2021 Music Background: Life Long Musician/Metal/Jazz/Fusion/Clasical

I was looking for a portable powered PA speaker to run through a mixing console so I could blend Backing tracks vocals and guitar through. When I was discussing what I was looking for with my Sales Engineer(Matt LaMarche) he said there wasn't much sound difference between the DBR10 and DBR12.. So I went with the 10's and couldn't be
happier.

First off I've been running my Line6 HD500X through an old school Pioneer Head Unit that Pushes Twin Akia Speakers which has a total power of 500W. The Yamaha Speakers take the sound and brings clarity with the FRFR, I set the gain to 0db on the speaker and OH the glorious stereo guitar effect sounds I've been missing when I pair two of the DBR10's together. The DBR10's have the option to be pole mounted(Which I would suggest doing) or as floor monitors.

I really like the simplicity of the back panel and appreciate the lack of Wiz Bang or LCD gadgetry.

Are they perfect.. Nope.. But Dang Close.. To make them perfect add a USB connection to the back for Phone connectivity with stereo linking when you connect two together. Why not bluetooth? Well Bluetooth doesn't charge your phone and sometimes Bluetooth drops out.

I’ve Owned Four

By Mark Henri from Vancouver on August 7, 2020 Music Background: Mainly Churches/8 Track Recording Studio in 90’s

I'll start with the shortcomings. First off, the highs are not reference audio quality. They're a little grainy and inaccurate. However they are severely adequate and good enough that you can forgive them because of their super low price and extreme light weight (only 22 lbs each). Feedback was not a problem either as they are eq'd good in the floor monitor setting.

As mains, the church I was using them at had only one complaint—they looked too small. I had to grill them to get them to admit they sounded full and big and they finally admitted it. This was in a 200 seat ballroom and they had plenty of headroom for the typical guitar/keyboard duo. Keys sounded huge through them too. I was running four—two on the floor in stereo and two as mains with an Allen & Heath QU-SB digital board and an iPad.

My only real complaint was I'd like to see the handle modified so that it's not just a slot but something you can grip like a handle. If you have strong fingers this isn't a problem but I'm older (64) and it's not as easy for me. Yeah, that's a wussie complaint but heh, fingers aren't as strong as they used to be.

I highly recommend these for any small to medium sized ensemble. They might even be adequate with a heavy rock band if just the vocals are running through them and the room isn't too big.

Performing dance and entertainment music with two DBR10 speakers.

By George H. Winter from Tuscaloosa, Alabama on March 12, 2020

Finally I can perform in stereo for crowds up to 100 or more dancers or listeners with a very full sound covering the bass, midrange and treble, plus vocal frequencies, with no holding back on the sound fullness anywhere. Previously I had been using two Yamaha MSR100 speakers, and was always wishing for more overall sound. At several ballroom dances of 30-50 dancers I hoped for the kind of sound quality and quantity that the DRB10 speakers could provide, and my wish came true, thanks to Sweetwater and their credit program, meaning I did not have to wait to save up, but actually have the two speakers right now, for the biggest stereo sound ever, from my Yamaha PSR-S950 keyboard..

My first DBR10 is wonderful and amazing for its size. I can fill a medium room with a full frequency response of any sort of music, from Rock, Big Band, Country, Disco, Gospel and Patriotic. Plus Latin and Hawaiian. I can hardly wait for a second DBR10 so I can perform in stereo with my Yamaha keyboard. I have been performing professionally for 60 years and never had such a high quality sound from such a small speaker enclosure until this little marvel.

All One Person Needs

By Phil Mingin from Huntington, NY on February 6, 2020 Music Background: Keyboards, Guitar and Vocals

A pair of Yamaha DBR10 speakers is all one person needs for a small to medium size venue without using the house PA system. The engineering of these speakers allows for rich lows, mids and highs that one would expect from a more expensive 12" enclosure. You can use channel 1 for a microphone and channel 2 for an acoustic/electric guitar, or channel 1 for a microphone and channel 2 for keyboards. There are also right and left RCA plugs for an MP3 player for backing tracks. At 20lbs. each it is not a burden to carry these to a gig. When I performed an A/B test between the DBR10 speakers and a pair of Behringer DR112DSP speakers the differences were there, but not enough to justify carrying an additional 20lbs. per speaker. To sum it up, I am extremely pleased that Greg Savino offered these as a substitute for the Behringer speakers. As usual Sweetwater's sales engineers were right on the money with their recommendations and I now use the Yamaha DBR10 speakers through a Yamaha MG06X mixer which allows me to use my Hammond SK1, my Roland FA08, my Takamine acoustic/electric guitar and a Shure BETA58a Microphone . Great stuff,

My new DBR 10 was connected to my Yamaha PSR-S950, along with my Yamaha MSR 100. It provided a rich bass and brilliant sound that I never heard before from my keyboard using two of the MSR 100. I will get another one soon and then sell or retire my MSR 100. The combination of the two powered speakers was in a medium sized room with 26 dancers at a retirement home. It sounded more than ever like a full, live band playing. The full bass delivered by the DBR 10 helped the dancers feel the beat, especially for those with hearing problems. I do play for dances with 50-60 people, and my two MSR 100 speakers have done okay, but when I play with two DBR 10 speakers (soon) that will provide a "WOW" sound for everyone, and I look forward to getting compliments of a brilliant, fat sound with plenty of bass, remarkable for a 10" speaker, I used to use large speaker cabinets with 15" woofers and 500 watt amplifiers, for dance crowds over 80 dancers, but using two DBR 10 speakers is going to satisfy all the dancers as well as me. I used to aim my speakers towards the center of the dance floor, but did get some complaints about the volume. so now I aim my speakers at a nearby wall to bounce the sound out. That way everyone can hear everything, but no piercing high frequency sounds.

Good little speakers

By Justin Garretson from Johnston, IA on January 28, 2020 Music Background: Sound Engineer

We use these for monitors, but in a small bar, they would make great sounding mains. Lightweight, with just enough features to be very versatile. Hard to beat for the price.

phenomenal speakers

By Wes from Los Angeles on September 17, 2019 Music Background: Dueling Pianos professional

Actually hard to believe this is Yamaha's "budget" line. I always look at reviews skeptically, I'll try to be short and sweet here - great sound, very balanced, plenty of volume. I'd say best as monitors unless playing to a small room, then totally fine as Mains. Fantastic sound quality and even EQ options with the high pass filter.

Compact powerhouse

By Tom Zink from Los Angeles on December 25, 2018 Music Background: Full time performer/arranger

Really amazing power for a compact lightweight unit. Has just the right amount of EQ control for different scenarios, and the sound is really nice. The higher end models have more options, but I feel like they left off just the right amount of esoteric features to keep the cost and weight down for a portable powered speaker that still sounds great. I'm using it mostly as a keyboard rig/monitor, but I could easily use it as a PA for a fairly large ballroom. Yamaha tends to "under-rate" their power amps, so when it says 700 watts, it means 700 very clean watts with headroom to spare.

Best for the money

DBR10

By Steve from colorado on September 16, 2018 Music Background: drummer

I'm a retired guy who has been a drummer all my life ,since 6-7 years of age.It has always been my hobby and passion to play the drums and after researching and reading the reviews of many powered speakers, bought the DBR10 as an amp too sit next to me while playing and is excellent choice, for any drummer, not so big not so heavy and has a lot of controllable (punch),of course you need your cords, and it comes with a power cord.I really enjoy the cue changes I get when as a band playing we sometimes change on the fly from our set score. Very excellent choice! PS. Do get the bag it is great to have.

Excellent compact monitors

By eric from colorado on September 6, 2018 Music Background: >10 years rock and roll live bands

Very pleased with this powered speaker as a compact floor monitor for a loud live band. I have experimented with a number of other passive and active monitors including JBL, peavey, Carvin, Seismic audio. these are by far the best. being able to change the HPF easily for FOH or monitor is nice. the variety of inputs is nice. they can get as loud as you want and still be clear. they are plenty loud to be stand alone mains in smaller venues.
The compact size and weight is a big plus when it comes to load in and break down and there is no drop off in sound quality or volume compared to bigger speakers, at least for use as floor monitors

Wow!

By Sweetwater Customer on July 2, 2018

These speakers sound fantastic. The EQ on the contour know is nice extra. Installed these in a small church this past weekend. The sound is so clear and transparent, I had to turn off my wireless headset to tell if they where on and sudden the room was really quite. The tone coming over is so clear to my ears that I had hard time telling any difference in sound except I was just louder. Really impressed by these and headroom for days. Way more power than I needed for this application. Small, light and sound outstanding. If you want big bottom end then well 10's are probably not the right application for but for getting some vocal mics up and heard with great detail these are great.

Ultra headroom and presence

By Robert from Cincinnati, Oh on March 20, 2018 Music Background: Mostly informal but occasional small special music gigs.

I"d been playing acoustic guitar through a small acoustic combo amp, mostly doing solo "special music gigs." I"m generally not playing longer gigs, just a few songs for special events. I"d been happy for the most part with my small amp. Considering everything, it"s quite capable, especially when playing solo to a captive audience. I"ve had more than one occasion however when I turned down requests to play in a larger church or with a small ensemble. In those situations, the amp is less than adequate. I could be heard throughout the church when playing for a quiet crowd, but it just wouldn"t fill the room sufficiently. I should also make clear that I am not a fan of "DI-ing out." I"ve played in churches in particular for years. I"ve been burned on too many occasions to be comfortable with that.

I considered stepping up to a larger acoustic combo-amp for larger needs. Just prior to pulling the trigger on one however, I decided to stop and rethink it. I wondered if my money could be better spent on a different approach. I reasoned that if I was willing to forgo a little of the "one box" convenience of the amp, what I would gain might overshadow the small bit of additional lugging and setup. That"s when I discovered this item. I had researched a number of powered speakers before arriving at this one. After reading quite a few positive reviews, I made the purchase. I knew going into it that to get the full appreciation, I"d need to combine it with some other processing for my guitar and whatever else I chose to add, including a mic. This item is not about precise EQ control or any instrument or mic specific processing. It"s primarily about HUGE headroom and potential while still being in a relatively compact cabinet that weighs less, in some cases a LOT less, than ANY of the larger acoustic amps I considered.

For a general starting point, I decided to combine it with a small but very capable analog mixer, an "Allen and Heath ZED 6FX." When I first received the items, I was very happy with the size and weight of this cabinet. It seems like the best balance in my opinion between weight and performance, without getting overly boomy on the low end. That can be a little more common with larger 12" speakers and require some additional EQ-ing. I personally feel that the 10" is the best all-around place for this application. Anyway, I cabled everything together and added my usual effect pedals. The mixer has built in effects that are also very nice. I wouldn"t hesitate to use them alone if I was under pressure to set up more quickly. My setup time however was still relatively short. It only took about 7 or so minutes longer to set up than an acoustic amp, especially when I"m using a mic with my smaller amp anyway. Once set up, any reservations I had about giving up convenience or whatever were quickly squelched. This is a TOTALLY different level of amplification than any of the larger amps I considered. Although it"s tad less convenient, I feel like I"m already "DI"d out." I can"t imagine any event I"d be doing that couldn"t be handled with this item. I"m not the slightest bit worried about whether or not the location has a PA. I also like the fact that it opens the doors for considerable future expansion if desired. I already have 6 channels through the small mixer I purchased. I could increase that considerably with a larger one. Now I can add a drum machine, another mic or guitar, keyboard, a small monitor, etc. In addition, this item plus the additional mixer were still considerably less expensive than the amp I considered. If I want to add another speaker down the road, I can, although I can"t imagine doing it. More EQ control on the unit would be nice, but it can't be touched for the money.

Especially if you already have a small acoustic amp, I would encourage you to give this approach a try. I feel like I already have my small "convenience amp." When I want more however, this item is beyond anything I"d achieve with the largest acoustic amps, all in a cabinet that"s lighter. I can"t imagine better or bigger sound in this price range.

DBR10s comparable to higher end Yamaha offeringss

By Kerry P. from Georgia on December 11, 2017 Music Background: Working bassist and sound man for 20+ years

I have been using passive Yamaha speakers for several years and have always been pleased with their sound quality. In making the transition to all powered wedges for my PA system I had strongly considered another very popular brand of powered speakers. On the suggestion of a fellow part-time sound engineer/friend I wanted to give the Yamaha powered speakers a shot. After deciding on DXR12s as upcoming replacement for passive wedges I wanted to keep my budget lower than that would allow. I decided to purchase just one DBR10 as a trial to see if it would be powerful enough to meet my needs. The clarity and power are surprising especially at this price point. I am very pleased with the DBR10s as floor wedges with their small footprint and light weight. Plenty of power to cut through even on crowded/loud stages. The onboard DSP is very helpful with vocal clarity when selected as "monitor" and/or low cut engaged at 120 Hz. Very pleased with these as floor monitors but I will be stepping up to the higher end series for FOH duties. Thanks Ben for the great help with making ordering and even the occasional return a breeze.

I purchased 2 of these speakers to use primarily as Floor monitors. I was absolutely blown away! These speakers sound great and they are LOUD! With the DSP setting switched to monitor, the vocals sound clear, and seem to cut through the mix nicely. It also seems to help with feedback. I would highly recommend the Yamaha DBR-10, and plan to buy a couple more in the near future!

great sound, great price

By Sweetwater Customer on October 28, 2015

I got these speakers for small acoustic live gigs. I use them with a ZED 10FX mixer. We used this mixer and these speakers for a trio (guitar, autoharp, violin) to play recently at an outdoor wedding with 170 guests and the sound was fantastic. I had the DBR10s on stands with levels set to 3 of 10 (markings above unity gain) and D-Contour set to OFF. I tried them with D-Contour set to FOH/MAIN (bass boost to compensate for spkrs being on stands) and again with it set to OFF – everyone listening out there in pre-wedding tests preferred OFF due to a flatter sound for the Martin HD28 guitar (was a bit too much bass energy otherwise), and I preferred it to minimize signal overload (green SIGNAL light on the DBR10) which occurred playing the bass notes on my guitar. Still had plenty of bass with it OFF.

Sounded awesome, and interestingly, the venue owner said it was the best sound system he has heard at his outdoor wedding site. Lots of audience folks told us later the sound was perfect, they could hear every note clearly, and when one of the wedding party did a recitation using one of our sm57s thru the PA, they could all hear her very clearly and she sounded nice. These little 10s really can put out some bass as well as sweet mids and highs.

I really think the ZED 10FX mixer with the Yamaha DBR10 speakers are a perfect sounding combo for acoustic music in small to medium applications. If we ever add a standup bass to the group, or if we wanted it louder than 3/10 on DBR10s for some reason, I would need to add a sub, as the bass energy would overload the speaker input. All in all, though, I was quite surprised how powerful these speakers were, even playing to 170 people outdoors.

Really Nice and light!

Not sure why Yamaha doesn't advertise this, but I just bought one and it works perfectly! Nice snug fit and together in one case makes them easy to transport and the case has wheels as well. DBR10's = Just Do It!

By C5L on March 21, 2015 Music Background: Professional Musician (30 years)

Compared these with DXR8's, DXR10's, K8's, and K10's in both playing music through them and using them live with both band situations and solo acoustic environments. They are every bit the speaker that I compared them too. Are there slight nuances that are different? Of course... every speaker has its own characteristic. That being said the new DBR series speakers will provide you the same sonic experience as DXR series Yamaha's and the K series QSC's with a little less power and plastic rather than metal exteriors. (in other words, they will scratch easier)

If you are a solo acoustic or duo act, don't even hesitate. These speakers sound every bit as good as the DXR and K series in that environment and for substantially less money. In a band situation remember that these are 10" speakers, so for smaller bands and smaller venues it will handle it quite nicely, but don't expect these things to cover a huge club... they were not designed for that.

I am using them for a solo act with acoustic guitar, keyboards, and vocals. I have used the QSC and DXR stuff... these sound the same to me. Incredible product for a very fair price. If you feel these will work for your application, buy them. They sound wonderful and they carry a 7-year warranty from Yamaha. In addition, it is VERY rare for a new design speaker to consistently get 5-stars immediately. There is a reason for that. Just Do It!!

Most pleased purchase

By Epgump from Montgomery, Al on March 10, 2015 Music Background: Sound engineer & musician.

I ordered a DBR 10 before I heard them. The only reason is because I trust Yamaha brand. However I was very reluctant and ready to send it back for a DXR 10, (which is about 10 lbs heavier) if I didn't like it. The first day it arrived, I put it through the MAX TEST to see how much it can really take. I eventually decided to keep it, and took it on a few gigs, some as a house speaker at Baumhowers restaurant and others as a floor monitor on a few big stages. Long story short...A+...but the killer was, when my wife told me (during the 1st day test) that it sounded like Smokey Robinson was sitting on our couch singing.

Phenomenal

By ZT from Plymouth, MA on January 10, 2015 Music Background: Singer songwriter

Just got a pair and they sound so clean. I have yet to use these with other players but with an acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and vocals they sound amazing...at least through a Yamaha mg12 mixer. I will be gigging with these soon and I'm confident they will have plenty of balls for almost any small or medium sized gig with or without band members. The qsc k10 bag fits these pretty well for some transportation protection.

Excellent as a keyboard monitor

By Rodger from CT on December 26, 2019 Music Background: Bassist, music teacher, father of a keyboard player :)

This is an excellent alternative to keyboard-specific amplifiers for those who do not need a stereo rig or more than two mono line level inputs. At moderate volumes, the sound is very clear and balanced, and it does not have annoying levels of hiss (or peaky midrange) that I have experienced with some keyboard amps.

The bass range extends deep enough for reproducing piano/synth sounds at monitoring levels, but I wouldn’t expect it to carry the load in a large room without FOH support. Before deciding on the DBR10, I considered the DBX line, but I am very impressed with how the DBR performs- and it’s very reasonably priced!

Love These

By ALBERT C. from Washington on December 13, 2018

I selected these primarily for stage monitors. Spent over 4 decades using many well established brands mostly in the 12" and 15" sizes. Over the years, active monitors continue to grow in popularity and performance. Decided it was about time to make life easier by reducing the carry and load weight of all my mains, subs, and monitors. That's when I picked the Yamaha DBR10 units to see how they perform for live band use. Did the 1st gig at a huge banquet hall and assigned these boxes accordingly. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised how they held up. Stage had just the right fill and vocals were clear and never had to fight through the monitor mix or the backline amps/speakers either. As for loudness.....Plenty!! It was easy to keep the stage sound under control with very manageable bleeding from the back of the speakers. In fact, it was hardly even noticable at all. Needless to say, these boxes are more than capable for this type of use. I can also predict they will be my go to's as mains for small gigs too. As with any other brand, time will reveal just how quality these items really are. Having Yamaha's 7 year warranty plus their well known reputation for manufacturing quality products, I can be confident I made the right choice! Thanking Cody Kraus from Sweetwater for the recommendation. He knows good gear!

Very versitile

Seems to be a great speaker. I've used it one time as a FOH main for a small acoustic duo. I've still yet to test it as a floor monitor but I have great confidence in Yamaha products so I suspect it will perform well. Especially useful are the preset eq contours for FOH and Monitor and the LPF.

Excellent! Yam DBR10

I spent countless hours doing the homework, kind of balked at paying another 100 or 150 more than comparable brands but once I received it and tried it, no regrets. I ordered the first one then ordered the second one shortly thereafter. You won't be disappointed. It has great presence and can get very loud if you need it to be. I'm using 2 as monitors right now and won't hesitate to use them in a small to medium sized bar for FOH. I figure the 7 year warranty says a lot versus 1 from other manufacturers. Can't beat the service and follow up from Sweetwater, the price was the same everywhere but their customer service is what keeps me coming back here

Great light weight speaker...

Great addition to my current sound system, I am using a Fishman SA 220. I needed additional sound coverage for larger inside and outside venue's. I run an XLR cable from the DI Post mix of the Fishman and place the DBR 10 on a speaker stand in front of me. I monitor the sound with the Fishman next to me when performing. The DBR 10 is an extremely powerful and excellent sounding piece of equipment. Projects the low's and high's of the vocals and the acoustic electric Taylor guitar that I use with a quality sound. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I have no control on the unit of the lows, mid-range and high's. The unit has a built in "smart mixer" that does that for the user. There is only a single volume control for each channel. I would highly recommend the powered speaker for soloist and small bands.

Perfect Monitor

Didn"t know I was missing it until I used it for the first time. This is the perfect monitor.

DBR10 scores a 10

Replaced my old SV115's with a pair of DBR10 speakers. much lighter, solid construction, they sound great -- Who would expect less from Yamaha?

Better than expected

By Michael from Minnesota on May 10, 2015

I ordered a pair of Yamaha DBR10s and a DXS12 sub from Sweetwater without being able to demo them first. I was a little concerned that they might not have enough power for my purposes -- which include everything from grab-and-go coffeehouse gigs to outdoor parties. I've now used these speakers for both purposes and I can say they were an awesome purchase. They produce high fidelity sound -- very clean, full, and sweet. Combined with the DXS12 and with the LPF set at 120 hz, they make an excellent full P.A. system that's easily powerful for everything short of a full-on rock show -- and for that they'd make excellent monitors or ancillary fillers in combination with some larger mains. When used on their own (no sub), the DBR10s produce remarkably good bass response.

I had been planning to get the DXR10s but took a chance on the DBRs -- which are 1/3 cheaper. Although I think the DXRs would be a bit more versatile and capable of filling a larger room with sound, for my purposes I'm glad I saved the money. (I could've saved a little more by skipping the sub and going with a pair of DXR15s, but then I would've lost grab-and-go versatility.)

Yamaha's jaw-dropping 7-year warranty is the kicker. With all the digital magic built into these things, it's nice to know that they'll continue performing for a long time.

I've never regretted buying anything with the Yamaha name on it, and the DBR10s are no exception. Satisfied!

Not great for my purposes

By Sweetwater Customer from Vermont on November 10, 2023

Bought this to use as a home/practice speaker for vocals. Clearly built well but way too boomy for clarity in a small room, and also pretty sterile, even with the use of a reverb pedal. Maybe an EQ would improve it. Ended up returning, which Sweetwater was super cool about, as always.

Major Disappointment

By Sweetwater Customer from DE on June 25, 2022

40 5-star reviews led me to believe I was getting a good deal on a great speaker. Not the case. On the good side, it's light and the enclosure design allows it to easily be used as a floor monitor.
On the down side, it's tinny. It's weak and there's no EQ setting in the world to fix this thing. I just don't understand how anyone sees this as an acceptable PA Speaker. I was only using it as an electronic drum monitor and it's not even suited for that. Bass response is negligible. Zero mids. Highs aren't bad.
Spend more money. Get a better speaker.
