Boss DB-30 metronome
Compact, clips on, works great with ear buds. Works great for me.
Must Have!
The Boss DB-30 digital metronome is very accurate and is easy to use. I owned a mechanical metronome but it has limitations. DB-30 Quality is among the best. And has all the settings I need for rhythm, beats, etc for strumming or picking and fingerstyle. Sunni my sales representative was very helpful and knowledgeable. Now there is no more guessing with my old mechanical metronome. If I need 71 bpm and correct rhythm setting for any song gives me convenience I am playing each song correctly.
Metronome Maddness
At home I have a built-in metronome on my Roland V-drum's TD-17 sound module. When I go downtown to the studio where I have my acoustic kit I have the familiar clockwork wooden metronome like the one on the family's piano back in the 60's. When I FINALLY got an Android phone recently, the FIRST and ONLY app I downloaded was a metronome. When I got my FIRST phone bill I was surprised when I was warned that I was using too much data for my plan. Apparently running a metronome app on your android really CHEWS UP your monthly allotment of minutes!
Clearly, what I needed was a dedicated metronome which I could see at about 5 feet away from my drum stool. I was looking for something I could mount on a cymbal stand. I may be mistaken, but there were really only 3 choices for me. They are the Tama RW200 Rhythm Watch ($100), the Boss DB-90 ($150) and the Boss DB-30 ($50). I got the DB-30. Why?? IT WAS THE CHEAPEST of the 3. IF I don't like it NEXT I'll try the $100 one .. .
Using a quarter-sized coin stuck in the handy slot provided for this activity, I set up the metronome on a snare in front of the drum kit. It is POINTLESS to turn up the sound of the AUDIO click with the little wheel on the side of the unit as you will be PLAYING DRUMS ( not so fast, mate .. . there IS a headphone jack AND a belt-clip on this baby!.. . you know, wear the metronome in your pocket or clip it to your belt, like a tosser .. . )
GREAT SCOTT!! On the face of the unit, on either side of the, "BOSS" logo are two DISCO LIGHTS! They blink on the 1-count and all the subdivisions!!!
NOW .. . I can RULE TIME! At 5 feet I can still SEE the sweep of the needle as it crosses the LED screen. The two red disco lights glow like alligator eyes in a darkened swamp .. . IT's TIME to ROCK!
Sorry .. . I got a little crazy there at the end .. . Bottom line. Get this little beast and YOU, too .. . can rule Time!
Good beat keeper
I suck at drumming, this helps when I get carried away and go to fast
Solid Little Metronome
Don't believe the disparaging remarks about this little guy. Its a great tool for learning how to keep time with the beat across a wide range of bpm settings. I primarily got this for my son since I've begun teaching him guitar or piano (letting him choose). I used this with my old Tele for about a week and hasn't failed me yet in any way. I just set it on my amp head, set the bpm and time signature, and press start. Volume control is practical and functional; unless you're deaf as a bone, the electronic "ticking" of this little Boss is easily heard.
The only down side is, there is no mention of the names of the various levels of BPM ranges (presto, allegro, etc) that I am aware of in the literature that ships with this metronome. To prop it up for use, or to change the battery, just slip a quarter into the slot of the back and you're gtg.
The Boss DB-30 is nice, definitely affordable, and fits neatly into your gig/practice bag. I think it was a good buy!
Works great!
Adam at Sweetwater recommended the Boss DB-30. Really like it. Does exactly what I wanted. Price is very fair. Unit works very well!
Excellent product
Probably the best and most versital metronome ive used in over 40 years of playing and teaching guitar. Its very easy to use and makes hitting the beat easy.
Great Choice
Simple, effective & efficient. Great options for time signatures & subdivisions, and as always an absolute pleasure dealing with my Sales Rep Mike Harris & Excellent shipping times round out the Sweetwater experience!
Very effective Metronome
What I love about this Metronome is the auto save feature, you can set the Metronome and forget it, no need to remember where the bpm was the last time you used it. The bpm goes from 30-250 and you can change the bpm using the Tempo/value button. What I use the most is the Rhythm/Beat button to change the beat and the Tempo.
I would say to anyone looking for a Metronome where it is very simple to operate but,you do not have to remember alot to get it up and running this is an excellent choice
Works great
It can count and I can't
Works perfectly
Does the job
It's what I expected. It's what it is described. Happy for it.
Good product
Does what I need it to do. Compact size fits in a pocket or a compartment of a guitar case or gig bag. Easy to use.
Boss DB-30
This works good for me. Played bass for 25 years but just picking up a 6 string guitar this has helped.
will help you along
received this a couple of weeks ago. have not used it much yet. still learning some of the features on the metronome. im not a advanced player, but as i advance in my playing im sure this will help me along. it could be a little louder in my opinion, but you also have the flashing lights to look at for tempo. you can stand the unit up, i put a quarter in the back slot on the bottom, and i was good to go. im happy with the purchase.
Boss DB-30
Great unit for the price. For those seeking an uncomplicated metronome, this is the one to get.
No need for programming, saving settings, or dealing with a long users' manual. Volume adjustable to allow you to run it quietly. Also, prompt delivery from Sweetwater, as usual.
Great little Metronome
A very nice and compact Metronome that has all the features you will ever need. Very easy to use and follow along with the beat you have selected.
Perfect solo practice meter
Fantastic product for the the price. There is a clip on the back to boot.
Boss metronome
This is an easy-to-use metronome and it arrived quickly. Great device to help improve timing either when playing alone or when playing with others. I'd give it 5 stars if the screen were just a little bigger. Overall, I'm very pleased. Thanks to Matt and the team at Sweetwater!
Good basic metronome
This is a good basic metronome. Nothing fancy, but gives you everything you need for easy practice. Battery powered and portable, so you can use it anywhere. The one thing I would change is to add a flip down stand. You can use a coin in the slot in the back to work as a stand, but an integral stand would work better.
More advanced than any other travel metronome I've used
It's very nice. I'm used to a single click without any differentiation between the beginning and middle beats. Honestly, I don't need that unless I'm working on something in altered time signatures but it's a nice feature. Being able to subdivide is VERY nice, or accent an offbeat. The clave beats are a nice touch. I wish there was an actual stand for it instead of having to find a coin (who carries coins???).
My biggest complaint is the sound. Sure, that's a personal preference, but there's no way to change it from the default beeps. I also have the Korg KDM-3 which i LOVE. It has very similar features and its sound choices are at least acceptable.
Overall, I'm pleased. The KDM-3 will get a lot more use, but this is great for those rare times I want to toss it in my case for travel.
Boss DB-30 Metronome
As a simple, affordable metronome it's good. I use it for drum sessions @home,where I have to use Evans soundoff drum n cymbal mufflers;not recommended for instruments that have little to no volume control.
Nice unit
This little metronome is very handy and has many many features, as many as you will ever need I suspect. It has various types of sounds that are plenty loud and will extend beyond the volume of most of your playing in most cases. It's Just what I needed.
Boss Metronome
It cannot be heard above your guitar, but put on a set of headphones and it works great. Does everything and more then I need it to do.
Cool metronome
A cool gadget for getting into beat in time
DB30 Metronome
Works just fine
Metronome
Boss DB-30 is a must have tool for keeping time !
Very useful, light and portable
Great metronome to keep in the instrument case. Very easy to use and with all the different beats you may need. I do wish the click would sound a little louder but the LED's allow you see the beats and you never loose your tempo.
Great for the price
It's a metronome, click track and quite the help. Easy to use and tons of different time signatures. Worth the money
"Right On Time!"
Very helpful tool to have and it's easy to use!
Metronome
Nice lightweight and compact not enough volume.
Nice device, with a few minor design flaws
This device has a lot of functionality in a small package and I'm glad I own it. However, I have three gripes.
1) I wish it were a bit louder. I have a cheaper, less capable device from another manufacturer that is noticably louder in a package that is only slightly larger than this one.
2) The device has unusual and unexpected behavior in the low battery state. It resets to factory settings as soon as you press the START button, rendering it useless. IMO, this is a bad user experience. When the device is in a low-battery state, there should be some clear indication. At least the instruction manual or the Roland support web site should mention this behavior. If you look at the amazon reviews, you will see that a lot of people were confused by this behavior.
3) The battery is a little difficult to service because the jewler's screw holding the cover is smaller than many people will have tooling for. Other devices have a cover that slides and locks into place without screws.
Battery Doesn't Last
The battery doesn't last that long. Even if the unit is off and sitting there for awhile the battery doesn't seem to hold a full charge.
Metronome Electronic
I bought this metronome as it has a clip on the back so it could be attached to my music stand. It's volume is not loud and if you're like me with a little tone deaf loss it's very difficult to hear. Ended up buying a mixer to allow plugging into my Fishman amp and can hear it. Also trying to adjust best and takes a couple of minutes to figure out. As there's also a tempo pattern to figure out. Maybe I'm just too old school. Lol I now use my head phones and can hear it good.
Works good!
Does what I expected, good buy for the money.
Metronome timer
I ordered this metronome as it has a clip on the back so that I could place it on my music sheet stand. However, the loudness of the metronome is not very loud. In order for me to hear it through my acoustic amp, I ended up buying a mixer and additional cords to hook up costing me even more money Just buy a mechanical metronome and be done with it. In my opinion it's not worth the money.
It keeps cutting out when plugged into the external speaker every 4 measures or so then comes back in later...
It keeps cutting out when plugged into the external speaker every 4 measures or so then comes back in later...using the headphone jack....is very annoying. Not quite loud enough on its own.
Not worth the money!
I purchased this to replace a Korg MA-30, which had volume control issues when plugged into my keboard auxiliary input so I can practice with headphones. The DB-30 has the same volume control issue. It's OK if you are listening through its little speaker, but when you connect it into the input of another device via the output jack, the volume knob goes straight from 0 to about 70% with nothing in between. In addition, its only tone is very harsh.
I think this one is going back.
Not worth it
I bought this one to replace what I though was an inferior device. Turns out the one had for the past 15 years was better. This was the same as device I already had with a new exterior. Definitely not worth it.
Pricey Garbage
I'm astounded at how awful a Boss product can be-their pedals I've owned are normally bulletproof and work great, but not this metronome. It's pricey, but I was tempted by the Boss name, the expansive features, and its compact size. I've owned this for about a year, and it suddenly started resetting all on its own, something these do when the battery is low according to the product manual. And yes, I tried resetting it a couple of times, too. Four days and four batteries later (different makers from different blister packs, none outside their expiration date by a long shot), I'm finally giving up on it and need to order a new one. It won't be from Boss. Don't waste your time of money. This deserves zero stars.
Would not buy again
I am quite surprised that this metronome gets such rave reviews! I don't find it user friendly in the least. It's very easy to push the wrong button and get some setting that's entirely different than what you wanted. And then it's doubly difficult to figure out just what setting you ARE on and how to get out of it. Beyond that, the unit has no Bluetooth capability in order to use it with an external speaker so you can actually hear it while playing your drums or practice pad. Used alone with its internal speaker it is nearly inaudible when practicing. Then, if you try to plug in to the headphone jack, the sound you get in your phones or earbuds is a shrieking, dissonant electronic tone that is so harsh and hard on your ears that you are pretty much forced to abandon that feature in order to save your ears. There are much better metronomes out there on phone apps. Save your money on this piece of junk.
