Solved a lot of issues
This mic is fantastic. I was turned on to it by Rick Beato being that he is using it in his music based webcasts. I am doing the same thing but with life coaching and music podcasts. I don't really care for having a mic in my face when I'm doing a video and lavalier mics aren't the best solution either. This mic sits outside of the frame of the video yet gives a robust sound with quiet performance. I can't wait to try it recording music and test some of it's other features. Great mic for video and audio work!!!
Great entry by SSL into the consumer market
I was probably among the first people to purchase this mic - I bought it within a week of its release date, and I've been using it regularly for a few months. I was skeptical about SSL getting into the consumer market, but I ended up being impressed.
This mic is used for a number of purposes. Most of the time, it sits on my desk and faces me in "Solo" mode. Somehow, this makes for an excellent computer mic and the quality has received compliments. On a weekly basis, I get together with friends and record our D&D sessions in "Group" mode. In a treated-ish room (no noticeable natural echoes) this mic sounds about as good as mics right up in your face, especially with some mild EQ after the fact. Occasionally, I record demos with the band I play in using "Music" mode. This mic handles sudden, high SPL very well and never seems to distort. It seems like each of the four individual microphones in the unit manage their gain independently, which is pretty cool.
I really appreciate that this uses USB type C. It's handy when my laptop only has USB type C ports. It even comes with a traditional USB type A adapter with an SSL logo - the most prestigious adapter I own!
Overall, this is a highly versatile microphone that handily outdoes most other digital mics I've had experience with. With the standard 3/8" mount, multiple on-board recording modes, and four individual mics with the ability to record all of the tracks separately for maximum post-production flexibility, this is a great inexpensive multi-function digital microphone for entry level round-table podcasting, recording some music demos, and even just sitting on a desk.
Very awesome microphone!!!
I would give it a 5 stare rate, but when I used it for a group video, I would hear some static noise while multiple people talk all at once. Maybe something to fix but otherwise it is a good mic and fits well with my MacBook. Sounds good in a video and clear.
Great for plug and play for zoom or skype etc.
For remote meetings where you may need to speak while showing /playing music and or having multiple people in a room and have everything be clear, this is great. Works as advertised. For the price tag it's hard to beat.
Instant Hit
Such a useful mic, amazing quality. First take of vocals, sounded like they had been mixed by CLA on a big SSL console!
4 stars because it sounds like an SSL 4k... not a 9k. 9k is a bigger number so I thought it would sound better. But still, a bargain because CLA charges more for 1 mix than the entire cost of this mic. Buy 2 of these, your mom will want one too.
