Colossus is an indispensable tool that you will reach for time and time again when nothing else works. It will become your Swiss Army knife of composing, and it’s General MIDI compatible!

EastWest Quantum Leap Colossus at a Glance:

  • Direct from disk playback handles huge sample files

A vast collection of exceptionally high-quality instruments
You can expect the usual QUANTUM LEAP exceptional quality in Colossus. Even if you own some of these instruments, you will love this collection. A good example is the Fender Rhodes. Despite the fact the Rhodes has been sampled many times, Colossus includes a unique vintage sounding Rhodes you won’t find anywhere else. Colossus includes 15GB of new sounds recorded at Ocean Way Studio B (24-bit), a new 2GB piano recorded in Europe, and 15GB from the award-winning range of Quantum Leap and EastWest titles (EWQLSO, QL Stormdrum, QL Guitar and Bass, QL 56 Strat, QL Hardcore Bass, QL RA, QL Brass, QL Voices of the Apocalypse).

Sounds re-programmed for included Kompakt sample player
All of the instruments in Colossus are newly re-programmed with superior sound quality that makes the most of the included Native Instruments Kompakt player. Programming is kept very simple, and programs that utilize the mod-wheel are labeled appropriately. All programs have CC11 as an additional volume control. Many Colossus programs utilize auto sample alternation for added realism.

Every instrument category you can imagine included!

The clean and intuitive interface never lets the technology get in the way of your creativity. All Colossus' important instrument parameters can be immediately adjusted without the need to page, scroll, or fumble through a manual. Many sound shaping tools have been built in to the interface. Powerful multi-mode filters, envelopes, and LFOs give a wealth of creative possibilities. Integrated high-quality reverb, chorus, and delay effects are also provided.

Subtle but Important paradigm shift in your workflow.

So you say you have samples laying all over the place. You downloaded some - you got some you made some etc. Of course you still end up recording with pianos and organs and well, the time tested instr... read more [+]uments. But just where the heck is that great electric piano? Oh wasn't that on the old computer? Hmmm.

OK. Fast forward to Today. With one money (as they say in the auction business), you get all your samples, and you get ONE sample player to learn and master, and you get ORGANIZATION. I call this a paradigm shift because what you have here is a way to greatly improve your workflow and well just get the messing around crap finished and get back to business. Too many great musicians are back to the woodshed these last few years as they master ever increasing amounts of techno stuff.

Remember how it was in the day? Plug in the synth and push the button and wail. Well we aren't there yet, but this brings us a huge step there. I guarentee that even if these samples are no better than the ones you have, you'll end up using them for 85% of your work.

But guess what, these samples are better.

Jeesh you'd think I was a shill for these guys. But it's time someone started making things that made life easier. Easy is the new feature.

And as always, YMMV!

Dave

Great Buy

Music Background:
Colossus is a great instrument. The more I use it, the more I find myself digging the sounds and instruments. I reach for it first alot of times. Very realistic instruments, and great sound quality.... read more [+] The only thing that is a drawback to me is not having much options to tweak the instruments, but it's a minor grip. If you were to buy just one plug in instrument, this might be the one.... But even if you have tons of other plug instruments, as I do, I still have much use for Colossus! close [-]
