Working class classic

By Sweetwater Customer on December 20, 2023

Part of the indie rock scene in my city and half the bands here use this amp. The clean channel is great and the most of the voicings other than the really high gain ones sound great. The on-board fx are usable, most bands I've seen use this amp use the on-board reverb and throw pedals in front of the amp. Amp is also incredibly loud if need be, I can fill up a small venue without being mic'd. Would I like a tone master or real fender tube amp? Yes, but the crowd doesn't care and I'm not afraid to keep beating on this lovely amp. 5/5 for the gigging musician.

For the money I believe this is the best amp out there. 100 watts of power driving two 12 in. speakers combines with crystal clear sound and can make the transition from living room to stage easily. Truly an amazing amp. Thanks Sweetwater.

Versatile

By Henry from Allen,TX on June 28, 2023

This is the most versatile amplifier with a variety of voice choices and amplifier era sounds such as 60's Fender amps and the British sounds. I purchased it to enhance my Beatles tunes. It hasn't disappointed. I'm also using it along with a variety of pedals and it has no problem carrying the pedals along with the internal amplifier settings. Very happy with this product.

Secure the pictures on your wall before you turn up this amp

By Tom Richards from Pennsylvania on November 15, 2022 Music Background: Rhythm Guitar Player/Vocalist For The Classic Rock Band ANDORA

I needed to find an amp that would give me great stage volume and didn't cost alot. This amp checks all the boxes for me. My 15 watt practice Marshall was not loud enough on stage. After talking with my sales professional, Keaton, we decided on the Fender Champion 100. I use both channels on stage. Both set to clean. Channel one uses a slight reverb effect and channel two uses a delay effect. This amp takes pedals well. Using a tube amp modeler, I get the sound I want, with the volume I need on stage. To be honest, the first time I played the amp, it was set on 4, in my practice room... I knocked pictures off the wall. Thank you Keaton, Sweetwater, and Fender. This old classic rocker now has what he needs to play out once again.

Fantastic cleans, excellent build quality, no frills controls. The FX are decent, not my first choice but the tremolo is quite nice. Effects loop is a must have, as this amp takes pedals extremely well.

Great amp.

By Gary from Georgia on August 5, 2022 Music Background: Professional

Great amp for playing around the house. Dont consider it a concert amp for playing big gigs, has most of what you need to get started. Delay a d other effects are good. Would be better if it was a 100 watts into 4ohms, instead of 8 ohms.

What a great Amp!

Bought mine from SweetWater several years back it is just an awesome amp. Great effects selectablity, great tones. If you want, it'll even blow the windows out of you house ! Love this amp.

Great Amp for Most of Us

By Paul Isbell from North Carolina on July 25, 2022 Music Background: Songwriter, Nashville Based Engineer

This amp actually really impressed me! The drop in price definitely gave me all the incentive to give the Champion 100 a chance and WOW, talk about headroom!!
Now I purchased the Champion 100 on a whim, just figured it would be nice to have the extra 100 watts of cleans, and I didn't honestly expect much when I placed my order. I figured at the very least I could still get a great pedal platform amp out of the Champion 100.

Don't let the price fool you, this amp will fill the room, give you great (twin reverb style) cleans, and although I'm not too impressed with the "gain" over the volume of 6 (as it's too fizzy,) any overdrive pedal can handle overdrives, what more could you want out of this amp? It's great for a loud & clean, easy to use solution.
For this price, I 1000% recommend at least having the Champion 100 as your backup/plan b amp option. You won't feel bad about your purchase.

As always, my sales engineer, Tony, was totally awesome and helped me quickly.

5-Star Amp

By Mr. Tambourine Man from The Love Train on June 3, 2022

Gives me everything I need and then some. Size is perfect for a medium to large size room. Clean, simple interface and well designed and constructed. But what gets me most is the tone. Fender cleans and I can dial in a rock tone that I love. If I was going to go larger I would consider a Marshall. But for this size amp the Fender Champion 100 is the best I've found. The price is outstanding too. Excellent service as always from Tiberius and the Sweetwater team.

I haven't gotten past #3 volume level yet. Clear, crisp and all the features work. I am very pleased with all of my purchases from Sweetwater thus far. Cant wait for my new Buttercup Stratocaster HSS player series to arrive and plug it in to this mighty amp. Shipping was quick and precise. Packaging was well organized and my sales engineer, Alan was on the spot. I am glad I spent a few more bucks for the 100 watt x 2 instead of the 40 watt champion, much better bargain. Its always better to have more than not enough. Clarity comes from the wattage output. Online shopping is my choice of shopping these days due to cost of living increase across the country and you dont always get what you want but i will say this on Sweetwaters behalf, quality has been their best attribute going out the door. Fender is still number one for me and Sweetwater is carrying on their tradition. Well done!

Fender Champion 100 2x12" 100-watt Combo Amp

By Karl on January 11, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist - 50 years plus. Blues and Rock mostly.

Needed a compact amp so a small venue and I like the power of 100Wats. This amp sat for about a month after arrival before I could pay some attention to it. I finally got to sit down and focus on what this amp could do, and I really wasn't expecting much more than the basics. The On-Board effects and styles are solid, and I can get what I want at every setting. I also ran my pedal board through it (yes, I am old school) and it handles those as well. The clean side rings out very nice and the distortion side works equally as well. The 100 Watts more than fills the venue and when mic'd up to a PA it sounds good at any volume. I wanted the tube amp version but since this was a minimum engagement, I did not want to spend the extra bucks. So far, about 100 shows and numerous hours playing around, and it is just like new.

Fantastic!

By Danny Danzi from DanziLand NJ on September 26, 2021 Music Background: Professional Musician. Recording artist, producer, engineer, muti-instrumentalist

I got this a few years ago. I'm an endorsed Fractal Audio artist. I got the amp as a slave for my AX8. I needed 2x12's and 100 watts and didn't want to spend a bunch of money for basically a power amp and 2 speakers. The amp came and was absolutely perfect and worked better than I had imagined.

Well one day, after owning it for a few months, I decided to plug directly into it without my AX8. The sound that came out seriously blew me away! The modeling is quite amazing and I honestly could use this amp without my Fractal stuff.

The clean channel is to die for, and all the models in the dirty channel are completely useable with a little tweaking. That's another thing that blew me away. When I say a little tweaking, that's exactly what it takes to make this sound great.

I was able to create several dirty tones from fusion to Van Halen to Metallica. Seriously, this amp is amazing for the price and it's LOUD!

The speakers sound great too. I'm a 25 watt greenback Celestion man and rarely use anything else. The footswitch is great as it allows you to change channels and turn effects off and on.

That's another thing....the efdects in this thing. You don't have as much control as you may want, but they are good enough for me considering I had no expectations or plans to ever plug straight in to it.

The velcro strips that allow you to fasten both the channel switching pedal and power cord were a nice touch.

As far as cons, I really can't give you any other than I wish it had something in it to boost your leads or increase your gain stage. You wouldn't need any pedals at all for it. Like maybe if it had a 3rd channel? The amp has more gain than you'll ever need. But sometimes you can use a little more for a solo and it would be nice if it could be boosted. So you'll definitely need a drive pedal and a volume pedal for those things.

The one fix for needing more gain is to add a little more than you need at the amp and just back your guitar volume knob down for rhythms, turn it all the way up for lead. The plus here is this amp handles changes from your volume knob rather well. Using a Eddie VH type gain and sound, when you back the volume down, this baby cleans right up.

And lastly, Fender has done an awesome job modeling 12AX7 tubes. You really get the sound of pre-amp tubes from some of the voicings. Working for Fractal, one of the things I always listen for is 12AX7 tones. I feel it is more important than power amp tube simulation because very few actually nail what 12AX7 tubes do for a tone. Fender really did a nice job here.

To me this amp is an absolute steal for the money. If you can't get a sound you like out of this in 10 minutes or less, you may not know what justifies a good tone. I also recommend an amp stand for this. No sense trying to eq your amps with the sound blowing at your knees. Great amp, don't procrastinate.

Just got my amp in this morning. Took about 45 minutes to get it set with the reverb I was looking for. I have a Michael Kelly '53 Tele. Let me tell you guys, I got that Tele singing like a jail house snitch. The sound is amazing, controls are easy to learn. Haven't used foot switch yet. This is a darn good amp for home, small and large venues. GET THIS AMP. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. IT ROCKS!

Thrilling Tone For The Tight Budget

By Sweetwater Customer on July 24, 2021 Music Background: Gospel

This Amp delivers a clear, crisp wide range of sound on the Clean Channel. The Gain Channel can be clean with low gain settings, or used to deliver distortion+.

Both Channels have selectable Effects that sound amazing. Blending in an Effect with the guitar signal is easily dialed in.

I recommend this Amp for its classic appearance, loud but clean sound and for the two 12 inch speakers that deliver plenty of highs and lows.

Keep on pickin'!

Love the Fender Sound

By Doug McCoy from Texas on March 19, 2021 Music Background: Started playing back in the mid 60's.

Originally started out with a Champion 40. Did an upgrade on the speaker, sounded great but, I felt that I could achieve my end goal for the sound I was craving with this 100 watt amp.

Although it weighs much more than the 40 it isn't near as heavy as my amps from the 70's. When I first plugged it in I proceeded to adjust the volume and tone controls to what I usually start with. Started playing and knew this was the amp and sound I was trying to achieve.

Not only does this amp sound great it is LOUD! The 2 x 12" speakers really push out the Fender sound. I don't usually set my gear to simulate a British amp. I can tell you this amp does a good job in the emulation of an overdriven Brit amp.

Works for guitar and keyboard.

By Sweetwater Customer on August 9, 2020

My husband needed a replacement for his 30 year old Fender Chorus amp, so I started looking at the selection available at Sweetwater online. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Fender Champion 100. I showed it to my husband. He checked the specifications and said it had everything he needed... and a lot more. The amp has a dial that provides different effects, including delay, which used to require a separate pedal. The overall sound from the Fender Champion is clear and smooth. My husband is very pleased with it's performance and how it enhances his Yamaha EW300 keyboard.

I have only ever used Fender Twin 12 Amps throughout my career and the Fender Champion met all of my expectations. Before this amp I used the Fender Reverb the main difference being the Champion has some effects that the Twin Reverb did not have. I have run through them all and I find the Champion to be incredibly versatile. I can`t think of any kind of band this amp could not be used in. I used it last week at two different gigs and it shined through with no problems. Put on top of that the really great buying experience as Jacob my sales manager made it super simple to purchase, answered all of my questons and it was delivered in a few days in perfect shape. Thank you Sweetwater.

Today April 23 2019 I received my first new guitar amplifier, the Fender Champion 100. I am very happy with it. For this I only have second-hand but good brands of amplifiers. This amp is a nice and good looking, everything works great, I tried it for a while and it sounded good. Not tried to the worst but that will come, I have plenty of time. Wireless guitar system is doing well on it, the multi effect processor is also combining well. These are my findings and my preliminary conclusion. Greeting Benja. Maybe after 60days I will tell you my findings than.

Great tone

Got this as a Christmas gift from my daughter, I was using an acoustic gfx 100 lead series to play in church, but could never get the tone i wanted, my pedal board consists EHX soul preacher, soul food, full tone full drive 2, behringer vintage delay and a EHX Canyon. The champion gives me everything I want from thise crystal cleans that Gender is known for, to all the dirt and grit you would ever need. Takes my pedals very well, and I love the tap tempo feature.
I play a custom made tele and a 60th anniversary strat.

Gotta Love it !!!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 16, 2018

Stepped away from music for some 13+ years but beforehand was heavily involved. Pieced my setup together and decided to try this amp just for kicks and man i gotta tell you its well worth it. Anyone giving less than a 5 star simply isnt aware of its potential. Ive played my Gretsch Streamliner, my friends Fender Strat and his Gibson Les Paul along with a few others in his collection and the possibilities just seem endless. The built in voices are amazing and with the option to mix voice and effects on the second chanel makes it truly worth it for me. In additionto that im running a behringer fx2000 virtualizer through the loop to expand on its potential. O all the amps i looked into this one was honestly the right choice. Great voice, great clarity and all the power your gonna need for practice or for the gig. When you get it take th time to set it up right, itll be well worth your while. And for the price, well youll see. Thanks Fender, excellent job.

A Real Champion from Fender

By NormanJ from Boulder Creek, CA on September 9, 2018 Music Background: Garage Band hack, always learning.

I"ve been wanting a larger more powerful amp for awhile. I didn"t necessarily have to have a tube amp.
I have been playing on a Fender M80 since 1990, and a small Supro tube amp, since around 1972.
I recently played through my nephews Bassman with a 2/12 Orange cab. Awsesome, needless to say!
I can"t justify spending that much, so I took a chance on the 100. I use a Boss Blues Driver, I"m getting all of the tone and big amp sound I was hoping for.
I"m extremely happy with this amp. Works well with acoustic guitars also.

great amp , of course its a fender . for me its a lot of amp , something i can grow into , it has great tones and is very versatile , it has plenty of loud for were i live , my neighbors must love me by now . i also own the champion 40 watt also a nice amp . i think the champion 100 watt is all i will ever need for my playing experience , so very happy with this unit , it does so many things i hardly have the time to explore them all . i noticed fender does not make a specific cover for this amp so i bought the frontman 212 cover and it fit like a glove , also with the 40 watt champion they do not make a specific cover i bought the blues jr. amp cover and it fit like a glove . i am very happy i made this purchase , the amp exceded my expectations and of course the great service that sweetwater provides , i would not go anywhere else for my musical gear . looking forward to the future of up grading some of my gear and it will come from sweetwater. thanks sweetwater

Smart

By Jimmy Charles Beschoner on July 22, 2018

So, after years of chasing tone through huge stacks, rack systems, and everything imagineable i have ended up here. What i am doing with this amp is using it for that awesome clean Fender tone along with the on board digital reverb. My main tones (over drives, distortions, delays, chorus, compression etc...) come from my pedal board. I use 2 of these amps. One stacked on top of the other. I split my signal coming out of my board and send a line to each amp. The bottom amp is mic'd and set at a lower volume for my sound man, and the top amp since it is now sitting higher, i use as my personal stage monitor. I can tweak volume on top amp if needed without disturbing front of house mix. Can't say enough about the sound i get from these. More power than i'll ever need, easy on the back, and sound amazing. Also if it is a simple quick up and down gig (like a one set thing) I can haul one amp in with no pedal board and still get the job done with the modeled tones in the amp.

But please read on - Recently dumped all of my tube amps, I will always try to have a working Champion 100 on hand (at least one) of the four that I have had only one has gone "bad" and that was after 2 years of rigorous daily use (borderline abuse). I highly recommend for traditional genres. I use almost exclusively the Blackface, Tweed and Jazz voices - as well as the clear channel (Twin Blackface). I am a former Bandmaster, Super Reverb, Twin Reverb, Deluxe Reverb (actual 66), Blues Junior (early MIM black tolex version). My only beef with the Champion 100 is the sturdiness of the cabinet, I occasionally sit on the corner and I'm a big boy, however Fender has done everything possible to keep the weight down and the sound solid.

This is a great amp

By Adam Barnes from Jonas Ridge, NC on July 3, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist composer. Jaz! Blues fusion, smooth/urban jazz

After many years of playing through heavy, temperamental expensive albeit beautiful tone amps - Mesa, peavey, fender, carvin - I wanted an amp with a lot of power and tone that was as hassle free as possible. I took a chance on this amp and I have been truly delighted. Especially with the clean channel. Fender has always IMO delivered some of the finest clearest clean tones anywhere and this amp does not disappoint. The tone is true Fender clear, clean, pure very reminiscent of the old Fender Twin. Arguably a slight solid state "edginess" to the tone but nothing that can"t be adjusted. I love the simplicity of the clean channel: volume, treble, bass and reverb as I use it. My LPs and SG sing through this amp. I don"t use the drive channel much. The amp modeling is very good as are the effects, but I found the effect presets somewhat limiting, although this is due much more to my personal preferences rather than any lack in the amp. All in all a tremendous product and whether you"re a tone snob or not an excellent investment in a great vesrsatile amp for short money.

so far so good

Just got mine from Sweetwater. Kudos to Norb in customer service for making the purchase painless. This amp surpasses my initial expectations, the 12" speakers deliver great tone and presence and the controls are pretty much self explain themselves, making it easy to dial in any sound that you might want. I play both solid body and hollow body guitars on it and both sound fantastic. Been a hobbyist for almost 40 years and have owned both solid state and tube amps and overall this one is my personal favorite. Buy one.you won't regret it.

Awesome Amp For The Price !!!!

By John Ellick from Mantua NJ USA on April 3, 2018 Music Background: Proffesional musician, now lead guitarist with a church band

I've been playing guitar for about 40 years. Currently a lead guitar player for a church band. I've owned just about every good amp that's been made including Marshall 100 watt heads ,1965 Fender Twin ect... But most of those amps are ridiculously over priced. Fender champion series are great amps for the money. I own a 40 watt now a 100 watt. They didn't break the bank. It's easy to dial in any sound you want. A no brainer amp for beginner to proffesional.

Best Quality for the Price

By D. L. Peter from North Dakota on February 4, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist in a three piece rock band

This amplifier far exceeded my expectations. When I purchased it, I was in need of an amplifier that would give me the volume that I needed. This beast goes above and beyond. The crunch tones you can get out of the tweed voicings are phenomenal. The on board effects are quite lovely. I find myself using the built in reverb the most. If you're looking to upgrade from whatever crappy amp you've got to something that sounds fantastic, is very reliable, and looks gorgeous, look no further

A real Champion

By Bob Thompson from Michigan on January 15, 2018 Music Background: Playing since 1963

I bought this amp to be a more easily carried around unit and it reminded me a lot of the old Twin Reverb of decades ago. Even though I read the specs I was very impressed with the amp voicing and onboard affects. The foot switch made it very easy to go from clean to whatever effect I wanted. I also play bass and enjoy practicing using the clean channel. Plenty of power and awesome sound.

Wow Surprised

By Larry from Michigan on January 14, 2018 Music Background: Old Days!

Back in 1967 I had a Fender twin reverb, much more amp than I need starting out... Been out of the music for some 40 years... After a little experimenting I was able to achieve that same sound (almost) This amp is certainly more than enough amp for any gig, short of huge venues. Our 9 year old Grandson is a Fender fan and is totally blown away... Great & simple to use effects, great control with the included foot-switch... Now waiting to see the boys on stage sporting this Fender.....

Nice multi purpose amp

By Frank from Mohawk, WVa on December 20, 2017 Music Background: 45 years playing Bluegrass and Country Guitar.

With this amp you can choose the sound, you're not limited to one or two settings. There's not a need for all those pedals. I'm gonna add a compression pedal, but that will probably be it. Thumbs up to Fender and you can't ask for better customer service than I got from Sweetwater.

Unbelievable!

By Don on September 29, 2017 Music Background: Pro

This is all the amp you need. Run your board in front or in the loop. Takes pedals really good, clean , dirty, crunch, heavy distortion. It's a jack of all trades. I'm a pro level musician and I just gigged this thing for the first time last weekend at a large venue. It rocked! I don't see needing another amp at all. I do have several more expensive tube amps but honestly this amp sounds just as good for my needs. I play classic rock from Heart to Journey, and Zeppelin in my band. It's just a great amp.

Perfect... Everything I was looking for...

By William Gorski from Florida on September 28, 2017

Inexpensive, has all the power and effects I require without the need for a lot of extra equipment.

Excellent

By Jam from Georgia on September 2, 2017

Wow. For a solid state this thing sounds great. In the past year I've used a Marshall dsl40c, mesa recto25, marshall code 50, and now the Fender. I only jam in the bedroom so I wanted an amp that sounded good at lower volumes. The fender delivers. It takes all of my pedals really well and my les Paul sounds great with some heavy distortion produced by my mxr super badass distortion. My main music genre is 80's and early 90's rock. Of course this doesn't sound exactly like a Marshall stack but it it's satisfying enough and alot cheaper and simpler. I recommend for this for any occasional jammer and even amateur giggers.

Great Value!

By KJ from Cincinnati, OH on August 21, 2017 Music Background: 40+ years (blues, classic rock, classic metal)

I had my doubts about this amp but the thought of a solid state version of the Fender Twin Reverb with some added effects built in and an included footswitch made me pull the trigger. I figured if it was horrible I could always return it.

I was very pleasantly surprised. The cleans can get really clean and you can find acceptable tones through bluesy overdrive, hard rock, and even metal. It's very versatile for the price. It's got great headroom and the speakers hold up well at higher volumes.

Overall the thing that almost makes this a must-have amp is the price. You get a lot of amplifier for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend it.

Awesome!

Everything I need!

By Gary Jennings from WA - Washington on December 12, 2016

I gave up dealing with tube amps a long time ago and since then, it's been hit and miss with the solid state amps I've had over the years. I got into modeling amps for quite awhile because the technology allows for an amazing number of sounds from one amp. These days, I've simplified my rig and my style to the point where all I need is a crystal clear clean sound and a nice mean dirty sound and this amp provides those easily. I love it and you cannot beat the price.

A Raging Bull!

By Angelo from Simi Valley, CA on October 28, 2016

A few days ago I wrote a review about this amp. But, I'm back again, because in all truthfulness, brothers and sisters. I don't believe I said enough. It is time to testify...time to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The Fender Champion 100 is one "rank" amp! This amp is a work of art...it is a raging bull...a screaming terror, and a gentle giant, all at the same time! I am simply amazed at how Fender was able to create an amp this delicious for such an incredibly affordable price. This amp is a masterpiece of sound and performance. You simply have to hear it to believe it. Whoever designed this monster is a wizard, deserving of praise and adulation. My advice to any serious guitar slinger out there is buy this amp while you still can, because it is destined to become a certified classic. The Champion 100 would be a bargain at twice its price. I highly recommend that you get yours while supplies last! Check out the Limited Edition in white, if you can find one. The white Champions have a very unique Retro/Modern vibe. No matter, black or white, the Champion 100 is a natural-born killer!!!

How Sweet It Is!

By Angelo from Simi Valley, CA on October 20, 2016

Before buying this amp, I had absolutely no idea it would end up becoming one of my favorite amps of all time. Having owned several legendary Fender amps in the past, including an original 1966 Super Reverb, I had confidence that the Champion 100 would sound good - but not this good! I basically was looking for a versatile amplifier that I could use at home. Normally, I prefer valve tube amps. But, I figured I'd give the Champion 100 a try because it is loaded with a lot of cool and useful features, at a price point that is unbeatable. I ordered the White Limited Edition version instead of Black because I like being different, and I thought that it White gave the amp a sort of quasi-retro look. The big surprise, however, came when I turned the amp on and plugged in my guitar. The sound was unbelievably sweet! I couldn't believe my ears. Forget all that stuff you've heard about solid state amps sounding harsh or cold. The solid state circuitry in this baby easily matches, if not surpasses, some of best tube amps I've ever used. Trust me when I say that over five decades of playing guitar, I have used nearly every major manufacturer's amp on the planet. Fender might not like it when I say that, to me, the Champion 100 sounds even better than the Vintage '66 Fender Super Reverb, which is a certified Hall of Fame legend. To my ears, the tone of the Champion 100 is somehow warmer. I like to play my amps clean, and believe me, the Champion is Clean to the Bone! But, have no fear, if screaming overdrive is your thing, this amp can get downright nasty and raw. I also must mention that the reverb is spot on. Everything about this amp simply amazing. I am bewildered that Fender could make an amp this good for such an affordable price. Fender has definitely earned its reputation for great sounding amps!

I watched several videos and reviews before I purchased this amp, and I was very impressed with the reviews. I was even more impressed once I got it, and tried it out with several of my guitars. I couldn't be happier

By John Walker from Ludington, MI on July 25, 2016 Music Background: Long-time noodler, bar band vet

First let me say that discovering Sweetwater's website was one of the best things to happen to me since I decided to look for a new amp. I was impressed with the thorough descriptions, the abundance of user reviews and, especially, the demo videos. After narrowing my search down to four combo amps, I got solid advice from the rep (Jason?) who took my call, and I'm very happy with the result.

I'm a geezer looking to get back into jamming after a long lay-off. Initially, I thought I wanted a tube amp to replace my old Peavey Delta Blues (w/1 15"), because it had such a rich, creamy sound when the gain was turned up. But I had recently spent $120 on tuned tubes for it, and it still needed too many repairs for me to continue with it. Reading a hundred or so reviews convinced me that solid state would be fine, and it is. I haven't plugged my Strat in yet, but I've been practicing daily with my ES-335, and the sound is perfect. I listen primarily to melodic, rather than shredding, players and I want to earnestly learn a couple of Jeff Beck tunes, "Because We've Ended As Lovers" (of course) and "Brush With The Blues." I can tell from practicing that this amp can bring out the right range, the harmonics, the overall tone and nuanced sweet spots I want. Also, I don't know that I need them, but I still subscribe to the theory (or superstition) that two speakers will out-perform one when I crank up the volume. Either way, for the money this purchase was a no-brainer.

Great Amp At Any Price

By John from Indiana on January 14, 2016

Another great job by Fender! I have the Champ 40 and have been using it at rehearsal for a few months now. Now that we are "gig ready" I was going to bring my 100W Peavey Valve King 212 Combo because I know it can (over)power any scenario we encounter. However, I realize that so much of the sound we developed at rehearsal can not be duplicated identically with the Peavey, I picked up this amp with the hopes that it would give a "mid-sized" Fender amp tone. It provides much needed increase on the clean channel and the "Lead" channel works far better than the 40 as far as ballsy tone. For this price, it's a great amp for gigs and mikes up great. The amp is fairly diverse and provides a great Also another fantastic job by Sweetwater. They have helped me get back up to speed musically after a long layoff from bands. They make this easy and fun!!

I got this amp for a Christmas gift from my awesome wife.It really is an incredible amp.I recently got back into playing after not playing for 15 years and the little practice amp wasn't doing it anymore. This amp is louder than you will ever need. The effects channel is awesome, i've had the amp for almost a year now and still haven't gone through all the different combinations available.Like other reviewers have said the cleans are crystal clear. The 1/8" aux. input is great for playing backing tracks through the amp to play along with. The only negative i could find is only having one input. The included footswitch is a plus. The price makes it a no-brainer for someone on a budget.Would highly recommend it!

Best Amplifier for doing covers on drums.

By Mark kristy from Oakville on October 21, 2015 Music Background: Drummer

I read all the positive reviews and thought they were hype. But to my pleasant surprise they were not. I was looking for a way to play my drums along with my favorite music. I downloaded some free programs offered on the internet that provided ways of equalizing the drums so they were not so prominent. But nothing worked. Once the drums faded the music became distorted. So I thought I will just buy an amp and just play along with the drummer and not worry about trying to remove the drum tracks. But to my surprise when I hooked up my I-pod to this amp the drum tracks seemed to mysteriously fade into the background without making any adjustments. This amplifier rocks! I have my Yamaha DD-65 digital drums patched into it and it sounds terrific! It sound like I am really playing with the band! I mean it sound like I am really playing with the band!! I do not know why this happens but it does. And the volume is absolutely amazing! I barely turn up the volume knob one third of the way and the room is filled with loud music. And the clarity of the sound is Fender quality. My only beef has nothing to do really with the amp but with the limits of the volume control on my i-pod. Even the instruction manual that comes with the amp states that any music on your I-pod cannot be controlled by the amp. All is controlled completely from the I-pod. I was disappointed that this was not clearly stated on the website. But then again I might have been so disappointed enough to miss purchasing a fantastic amp all because it was missing one desirable feature. I do not know why the technology is such that you cannot control the volume from the amp. It would seem simple enough to remedy. Maybe it has something to do with licensing issues with AppIe or whatever. I am using a third generation Nano. Maybe other versions of the I-pod are out there that can reach higher volume levels. But all I can say is I am more than happy with my purchase. I also found Sweetwater.com has the best customer service you could wish for. I received this amp within a few days of purchasing it.

BOTTOM LINE IS, I LOVE THIS AMP!

By Johnny Angel on August 3, 2015 Music Background: 45 years of trying

This amp is an unbelievable value! It has the classic Fender looks and quality you would expect. There is plenty of volume with the 100 watt total and 2x12 Fender 16 ohm speakers. The versatility is great with two channels switched by the included foot switch. The channel on the left of the panel is clean and offers adjustment for volume, treble, bass, FX level, and FX select with a number of effects both separate and in specific combinations. Also a tap tempo button to adjust effects tempo. The right side of the control panel is where you get dirty! This side offers a gain control that gives you all the grit and growl and bark you could possibly want. This channel also features amp voice, which allows you to chose between classic voices such as Tweed, Blackface, British, Metal, and Jazz. Of course you also have the same effects on this channel as the first. The controls on the second channel are gain, volume 2, voice, treble, mid, bass, FX level, FX select, and tap tempo. On the control panel there is also a 1/8" jack for auxiliary in which allows you to plug in a CD player or some type of background source if you so desire, and a 1/8" headphone jack which mutes the speakers when plugged in. At the far right you will find a 1/4" pre out jack, a 1/4" pwr out jack and red power on light.

This amp is capable of producing a multitude of different sounds to fit what ever style you play from soft jazz to heavy metal! It can be soft and warm like kitten or mean and scary like a mountain lion. and the best part is you can go from one to the other with just a tap of the foot switch. You will also actual be able to do it progressively if you wish to because the foot switch not only allows you to switch channels, but to turn effects on and off on each channel as well, creating what is almost like having four channels.

Bottom line is I love this amp! It's not a Marshall it's a Fender, but it's also affordable and dependable. The sound is loud and awesome and I don't think there is anything in this price range that will beat it!

A First worth taking a Second look...

By Jose Morales from Dallas, TX on July 3, 2015 Music Background: Toured in the 70's as a lead guitar with UWP (38 states); played professionally for over 30 years throughout he Caribbean, and actually playing funk/rock/r/b with my band Midtown!!!

I believe this has to be the greatest breakthrough in sound by Fender. A former professional touring musician, I've gone from the Bandmaster, to the Super Reverb, to the Twin Reverb, to any other type of fad we used to play through all the way from the late 60's. Every time you tried to bring the solid state from your living room out to the stage, you experienced the same "what-the-hell" feeling. Regardless the brand, they all came short... especially when thick and "in your face" sound was the word. Today I went and bought this fellow instead of adding another Deville to my collection and it's incredible how true to the stage-business you can dial it. The overdrives give you the feel of the real 70' saturation without noisy hums or ear shattering highs... just fantastic! The voicing options can only be classified as REALLY REAL and it has the ability to hold it composure in the clean channel when you push it past the usual limit. Want more??? If you own a studio, bring one of this babies indoors... you'll get tired of listening to the same question over and over... WHERECHAGETTHIS!!??

I initially had a problem with the first amp I was sent-Let me tell you-the crew at Sweetwater got right on it and had a new one in my hands the next day so that I could keep a planned recording session. The amp worked great. They paid for the return of the defective one and checked on the new one a couple of times. This Fender solid state amp is amazing in it's ability to imitate it's more expensive tube driven cousins. I have found dozens of great tones through the many pick up combinations/guitars I have put through it. Thank you Fender and thank you Sweetwater!!!

BIG Suprise !

By robert ucciardi from brooklyn, NY on November 22, 2014 Music Background: 45 years hobby

Really very pleased , the sound is all there big full . Tone is really good and can be adjusted to many different variations . Can move some air , really this playing in a bib room will be heard . The thing is 100 watts solid state is about 55 to 60 tube watts which is to say really loud. But this amp with some adjustment plays well at practice volumes, and that fender tone is there . Its easy to use as you don't have to be computer savvy to get what you want out of it and you get plenty out of it . All in all Happy purchase , sounds great would recommend to anyone professional or novice , you wont be disappointed !!!

Love this amp!

By Terry Hoffman from Kansas on November 21, 2014 Music Background: Active Musician

About 2 weeks ago my regular go to amp took a trip south on me during a gig. I'm not mentioning any brand names but, it was not a Fender. I will say that I had this amp for about 20 yrs. so I wasn't too let down but, no one wants their amp to go down during a gig. I took it to an authorized repair center and, I was informed it would be $200 to be repaired, it just made no sense to put that much $ into an older amp, so I started shopping.
I knew what price range I wanted to stay in and, also what kind of performance that I needed in a new amp. This one was the most logical choice. I could have spent more on an amp but, why? Everything that I was looking for is in this package. Good looks, who doesn't like the look of Fender blackface amp? Plenty of power, 2-12" speakers, plenty of effects and even different amp models to choose from, channel switching and, control of effects on each channel with the supplied footswitch. It's all there and, I will say that it is very easy to setup each channel for whatever sounds and, effects you want to use. When I first started playing back in the 60's Fender was all there was to use and, we played em' hard, only drawback was the tube issue, when they went out or were going out the amp didn't perform too well. So you pulled the tubes and, went to nearest store that had a tube tester and sold tubes and got what you needed. Those days are gone along with the prices of the tubes. I've played solid state amps for a long while and, for a working musician that travels this is the way to go.
I recieved this amp on a Thursday and, did a gig with it the next day Friday. Never got to rehearse with the band and, had about 45min. until showtime to do some tweaking. It performed beautifully to my full satisfaction!
I always loved the look of the Fender Blackface and, all the goodies that this unit has just made my choice that much easier.

Versatile Sound.....Great Price!

By david whitney from pittsburgh on November 6, 2014 Music Background: amatuer

First of all, this thing is big, in a good way. 2x12 sound adds a punch to everything. Love the Clean channel for pure tone but the second channel is where the fun starts. Only had it for a couple of days but its amazing the number of sounds you can get out of the voice/FX/gain/volume combos. Only downside of 100w's is I live in the city and can't test the volume above 3+ without angry neighbors. Super Satisfied!

Champion 100

By david deneke from United States on June 15, 2014 Music Background: Lifelong musician, semi pro.

When i first got this amp i wasn't sure but after having it for a month or so i can say that this amp sounds like a fender twin. I have a 74 twin and this amp for a solid state amp runs close. There are alot of amps in the simulator, twin, princeton, deluxe, ect and i have my favorites. There are things on any of these modern amps that have digital that i don't love but this fender champion is the best i have heard. Unless you really are cranking the watts out it is pretty well quiet. Pedals sound very tubey through this amp and Tube Screamer or Joyo or other overdrive sounds great through it as do other effects, better than most solid state amps i have heard. If you are playing country or jazz or fingerstyle or rock out live this is a great amp to have. Most fender amps are reliable and it has a 5yr warranty. I have had Hot rod amps silverface, blackface reissues and this amp nails the fender tone. I may get rid of my silverface twin. Fof 300bucks don't buy anything else but this amp, you can't beat it even if you spend more.

outstanding

By john from san diego ça on May 24, 2014 Music Background: tours, recordings, live gigs, teaching, producing

this is a very versatile amplifier.I found using the twin or Princeton setting on ch 2 gain a 10 for clean , then adding a hot wired or Fuchs cream drive just rocks ..Beautiful cleans, and then use your pedals to taste. Very nice fender type verb, effects all sound very good . For the sound of a twin..or as close as you can get..and 40lbs lighter plus about a grand cheaper...its a no brainer ..even for a guitar player !!!

Great Amp!

By Terry Liedel from United States on March 26, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician

I recently bought this amp to replace my Crate V32. I'd been having constant repair problems with the Crate and simply got tired of the cost of maintaining a tube amp. While I love the sound of a tube amp, its expensive to upkeep.
I have to say that I was blown away by the performance of the Champion 100. The clean channel is very clean and perfect for my pedal board. I like the sound of the amp models but I use the overdrive channel as simply a clean boost. And it works perfectly for that.
Overall, the tone of this amp is very good, with plenty of volume for clubs. It sounds great mic'd. Its an extremely easy to use amp. I bought it on a Saturday afternoon and only had a few minutes to play through it in the store. I gigged with it that night and it did not let me down.
This amp is very well worth the money and its very reasonably priced, putting it in a price range for anyone to be able to afford a reliable, great sounding guitar amp. I would recommend this amp to any guitar player.

Much Better Than The Mustang !

By Jeffrey Osgood from Woonsocket, R.I. on February 7, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician

I was using a Mustang II until 3 months ago when I sold it due to financial reasons. I just went and bought this sick puppy a couple of weeks ago and after letting it break in, I thought I would put my 2 cents in about and , this amp blows away the highly touted Mustang series. I'm using a brand new Squier Surf Green Affinity Strat with it and it seems that the 2 were made for each other . The amp models along with the effects on this amp just sound amazing and not digital at all . Plus it is not confusing to set this up to your personal specs like the Mustang is . The 2 button footswitch is a welcomed plus and did I say that this baby is wicked LOUD ???? I absolutely love this amp and am not letting it out of my sight at all ! I'm glad to have gear once again and much more glad that it's both Fender & Squier !!!!

Sounds like my Bassman but it's powered by Transistors

By Peter Nelson from Alabama on June 27, 2023 Music Background: A few years studying music in college and also a few years studying violin with Nina Chemelov who was a Juliard School of Music Graduate and teacher. I play mostly stringed instruments and currently I am in a small band. I seem to be moving toward Jazz as

My Fender 100 watt FM212 guitar amp utterly destroyed my conceptions, well at least severely challenged my beliefs about Tube amps always sounding better than any Transistor or Digital amp. I have the predecessor to the Champion 100, the Fender FM212. One day out of curiosity I played the FM212 alongside my Fender '59 Bassman LTD. I was pissed off! Why? Because I could not hear much of a difference in the sound! No, I did not play through each amp in every single way that I know how to play so that means their is probably some differences in sound under certain settings. Perhaps but perhaps not, if I had to venture an educated guess, then I would say that yes they sound different sometimes and in certain settings. I did not explore every setting so that's a guess. What I did was to just play through each amp using a Stratocaster and just enjoyed y afternoon playing. But I was pissed! I have excellent hearing and played violin for many years-all by ear. I have over 20 tube amps and several transistor amps and even a digital amp. I am saying that I can hear the tonality of the music I play and understand subtle nuances in tone.
I use a Fender Champion 20 running through the Pre-In located on the top right corner of both the FM212 and Champion 100. I do this sometimes, not always. I do this when I want to hear some of the on board effects (built in an "on-chip" processor) I then have access to Tremolo, and all the rest of the Onboard effects such as Vibrato, Flanger, Chorus, Delay and more. You get the idea. MY FM212 has a high quality long reverb tank so I use that when I want reverb.
So in closing, if you want to have the sonic tonality of a genuine Fender '59 Bassman Ltd. (Ltd. = Lacquered Tweed and not "limited"edition in this instance) then give the Champion 100 a tryout. If you already have a '59 Bassman LTD but would like to have all the "Onboard" effects that the Champion series bring to the table then I strongly recommend the Fender Champion 100 or the Champion 40 or even the Champion 20 as you can do what I do and run your smaller Fender Champion Amp. into your Bassman to have all those Onboard effects coming out of your '59 Bassman Ltd. Remember that the Champions have several kinds of reverb and typical that is something you might want to add, that and the Tremolo.
Lastly, you can expect your Fender Champion 100 to be a wonderful sounding amp with many built in Onboard effects and for sure it shall last you the rest of your life as these amplifiers are of high quality and require no maintenance ever, well, maybe it might get a little dirty after 15 or so years. Just use a wet clean cloth and wipe her down. As good as new!

Fender Champion 100 (power and grace)

By Leslie Hjelm from Chicago on December 8, 2022 Music Background: Rank Amateur practicing for over 40 years.

Our friends at Sweetwater got this order to me unbelievably fast! I ordered on a Sunday afternoon and was unboxing this beauty Tuesday after work!
The Fender Champion 100 has so many built in features that I'm still discovering new sounds after over a month worth of playing every day. And that's just the different voices combined with various amounts of gain. There are about twenty adjustable effects also, from a touch-wah different reverb and chorus and delay functions.
And it is loud… the setting of 3 shakes all my picks off the top of the cabinet!

Money well spent!

By Russell from North carolina on June 24, 2022 Music Background: Session musician, sound engineer.

I've been playing this amplifier for a month and I feel it's an excellent value. I principally play jazz and i was looking for clean sound. I thought the tube amps were too high priced for what i was doing. This amp was a great compromise as i found it to be extremely warm sounding and very very clean. Also the digital effects and amp models are very usable and add to the value of this piece. But the one drawback was that i found the low end response to be sloppy as in boomy. I altered my technique to compensate for this problem. Possibly a different speaker set may solve this issue and make this amp a full 5 stars. All in all I'm very happy and it delivers as advertised!

WOW!!!

By NC from Central Ohio near Columbs on February 12, 2022 Music Background: Self taught guitarist that has been playing professionally since the age of 17, but playing semi pro now. Playing small to medium sized venues, traveling within the State of Ohio.

It was like seeing something I liked and I had to have it right now! At this affordable price, I couldn't pass it up! Hearing was believing! I was floored! This is one I'll be keeping for years to come! I would have given it 5 stars, but I gave it a 4 and a half, only because it's a little on the heavy side.....not so much that I can't lift it, but when I'm gigging without a roadie and transporting 2 guitars and an amp, it can be a little exhausting....I'm not young man in the physical sense anymore, I'm actually gigging with guys half my age! (almost 62)....Not quite ready for a rocking chair, but I'm not running any marathons either!

A lot of amp for the price

By Sweetwater Customer on January 3, 2022 Music Background: Playing for 25 years, in and out of bands

This is my first new amp in a very long time. Amp technology and on-board effects were only just coming out (Line-6) last time I bought an amp. I like the simplicity and variety of the effects available and included with the amp. I haven't yet played with other musicians with this amp, but the volume and power of the 100w will not disappoint, I'm sure. I love that it comes with a foot switch, and the channels have separate effects that you can turn on or off with the footswitch too. I appreciate the variety of amp simulators on the dirty channel as well. I think the one draw back is I feel like both channels should have a 3 band eq, the clean channel only has bass and treble. I guess I think of reverb less as an effect and more like volume, that should be included in most amps that aren't just a 15w or 25w practice amp.

$ for a 100w 2 channel amp with built in effects feels like a great value. I went ahead and bought the custom cover for $. I'm very happy with the amp, and I would highly recommend it at this price. Obviously time will tell, but if nothing goes wrong with it for a good 10 years (I'm very careful with all my gear) I'll be satisfied.

Giggable vintage tone at a bedroom price

By Jay from NC on February 26, 2019 Music Background: Afrobeat, Bambara, Blues, Rock

I"ve had this amp for a year now and I still freak out about how great it is. Wonderful array of tones on the drive channel with amp-like responsiveness. It"s literally like owning 10 or more amps with different characteristics.

I have been to performances and rehearsals with this against a horn section, percussion and drum set, and I think I"ve never had it louder than about 4. For home practice I"m generally between 1 and 2.

The effects are great, with the top 40 version of each dialed in automatically, speed for modulation effects (chorus, flange, vibe, etc) can be dialed in via tap tempo. Effects are independent per channel, so with intelligent use of stompboxes you can really set the thing up and take advantage of built in channel switching.

The only reason I don"t give this five stars is that the built in reverb is not independent of the rest of the effects. Besides that it rather sucks. Not a spring reverb, but some kind of super generic studio reverb. Even though my hope was not to buy any effects pedals, I did get the Keely Omni Reverb (Sweetwater exclusive) and it brilliantly solved the problem. Great spring and plate reverb, running through the effects loop. In addition to that I got the EHX silencer (I play a noisy Jazzmaster) which I run on the front end and the whole setup is absolutely great. Since I"m a chorus nerd I will probably add a chorus pedal to the mix, which will allow for greater control of the chorus and free me up to run the tremolo in the effects for both channels. That will be awesome.

So yeah, if you"re starting out with no gear all the built in goodies will keep you sounding great while you build up your pedalboard. If you"ve ever tried to lift a twin reverb you will also realize this amp is INFINITELY more portable at a modest 40 lbs. Plus it"s nice to be the loudest person at the gig. Headroom matters. Can"t go wrong. Get one.

Great amp

By Sweetwater Customer on February 3, 2019 Music Background: 40+yrs picking and grinning

Bought for my Christmas present. Wow, way more amp than I'll ever need! Have always wanted a twin reverb and if I was gigging I would have gotten one, but the price-you know. First new guitar amp I've ever had in over 40yrs of picking and grinning. 2 minor things I don't like, no dedicated reverb and only 1 input. The effects work great and the foot switch is a bonus. Bought a twin cover fits just right. Sweetwater is the bomb!

Nearly perfect

By J from NC on September 1, 2018 Music Background: Afrobeat, funk, Bambara, Touareg, and Middle Eastern

I"m getting back into guitar after playing oud for about 12 years. I bought this amp to avoid the need for pedals right away. Overall it is an absolutely killer deal for the money. The tones available are fantastic, amp models are varied and useable, and the effects are pretty good too. The included 2 button footswitch is also a great feature.

The amp is super loud as well. At home I hardly turn it up past 2. The tone doesn"t change with volume changes either, so you have consistent performance at all volumes. I recently performed at a festival with 2 other guitars, bass, drum set, 3 percussionists, a singer, and 5 horns. I turned this amp up to 4 and stood 25 feet away from it, and heard everything ask clearly as if listening to a mix down. If you"re on the fence about 40 watts vs 100, trust me- get the 100.

Depending on what style you play you may bump into some limitations. Effect combinations are for the most part quite usable, but my particular taste for chorus and reverb could not be attained by both effects being mapped to a single level knob.

Which brings me to my gripes. First, there is no separate reverb on this amp. It is one of the selectable effects, so if you want to combine it with wah or vibratone, or TREM for goodness sake, you"ll be out of luck. I just solved that by getting the Keeley Omni Reverb which I am running through the effects loop. It is a perfect fit. The other gripe is that what would be the depth knob on some effects is replaced by a kind of tap tempo. I think there"s enough room on the panel for a knob instead of the tempo button.

Having said all that the amp was ready for performance right out of the box and has enough great tones and effects built in to make pedal purchases a luxury rather than a necessity. At the end of the day, with an entire guitar rig that costs less than $700, I"m getting great sound and being invited to big shows! You will not regret getting this amp.

Fender for years

By Sweetwater Customer on March 27, 2018

The Fender Champion is basically the continuation of the Fender Frontman 212. If you can't manage to get the Champion, maybe you can find a Frontman. Either way you won't regret it. I'm just going to lay it out plain and simple. I started playing back in the 1970's and owned and played the high dollar expensive and heavy oversize equipment, and with equipment like the Champion amp, thank goodness those days are gone and good riddance. More people have the opportunity to play now with the affordability and access to great gear. I've been a Fender fan for over forty years, and as long as Fender doesn't drop the ball, I hope to enjoy another forty with them.

Great sounding amp for the price, I play several different brands and styles of guitars thru it. They all sound great. The only thing I can find is that the 1st channel is a little tinny sounding, (could be just me). But the 2nd channel rocks. Amp is not too heavy, easy to move around. No issues and I would recommend it. Can't go wrong buying from Sweetwater either. The little bag of candy is so cool.

I'm A Believer

By Joe from Tennessee on June 4, 2016 Music Background: Tone Enthusiast

If you are like me and have always appreciated tube amps for their superior tone, you know that will never change.

Now let's assume that you want a reliable amp to gig with that doesn't break the bank, or your back, then consider the Fender Champion 100.

Yes it's not a tube amp, but if you desire two of these amps that, when played together with a delay, touch of reverb, and stereo chorus, approach the heights of Eric Johnson's clean tones, then this is your ticket to paradise!

As for me, let's just say that I've seen the light, I'm a believer!

This amp has great overdriven fender tones as well.

I counted off half a star because some of the onboard effects are not as superior as the amp itself.

Let me close by saying a heartfelt thanks to Josh Dillon and Sweetwater for your excellent customer service.

Great twin amp

By Dave from Erie PA on June 2, 2016

I am very happy with this amp!! I feel the tones are great! I bought this amp because I needed a little more power playing with our band. I do like the different tones and effects. I also like that it is a twin and really projects the sound great. My friend has a vintage 65 blackface and this amp is very close in matching tone. His amp is just a little warmer sounding. But for the price, this amp is awesome. I would definitely recommend this amp. Even when I turn the volume down to lower levels I still get great sound unlike my Vox AC tube amp.

Great amp! This amps clean section is out standing reminds me of those great Peavey Solid state amps the blues guys used back in the 80s, but the cool thing is if you switch to the other channel you can get the crunchy sound of the old Black face fender amps and you can get close to a twin sound.. What blows my mind the most is there British setting sounds just like a classic jmp really surprised me how versatile it is.. I will use this for small gigs and demo's, i think for real recording i would get a Real Twin reverb but then again i did some recordings in the 80's with a marshal solid state and it sounded great so maybe i will use this we will see in time..

Great Amp

By Les from Eaton, OH on February 18, 2016 Music Background: Relative Newbie, Playing in church band, looking to get out to local open mic soon

Really a great amp for those who want great sound with minimal fiddling around with computers. Clean channel comes very close to sounding like a Twin, Channel 2 voices are useful and flexible. On-board effects all work, though I think the flanger and touch wah are pretty lame-maybe I don't know how to use them properly. Excellent power, 2X12 speakers are crisp or smooth depending on your touch, really responsive for a transistor amp. This thing will drive you out of the bedroom at "4." Knocked off half a point because the aux input is noisy-not overpowering, but it's there-and not present using the same iPod/cable with other amps.....and I got mine just before the price increase!

Great Sounding Amp

Great inexpensive loud and full pedal platform for playing out.

By Jay on June 24, 2015

I have many amps and professionally I play in a wedding/event band. Lounge standards/ Motown/70's/80's /modern dance and rock. I run a pedal board through a clean amp at all times for simplicity because I play so many genres. In our small rehearsal hall I use a 112 SS amp just for a basic sound. Live I can and have easily lugged a 212 cab and a Marshall or Fender tube head to a gig, but I decided to try a 212 SS amp and see if can produce an acceptable tone. This amp definately did the trick. Now my fragile and expensive tube amps stay at home. I have used the second channel and the FX just to jam with some friends and I dialed in acceptable OD tones too. No pedalboard needed . The 5 year warranty makes this $329 purchase a no brainier for this gigging musician.

Great Fender Sound for Little Cash

By Sweetwater Customer from USA on November 15, 2013 Music Background: College Music Student

Let me start off by saying that this is not a tube amp, it is a solid state. This amp does not sound like a tube amp in any way. But don't let that stop you from thinking about buying it. This amp sounds great! The 100 watt model comes with two channels. The clean channel sounds very bright and rich, similar to a Twin Reverb. The overdrive channel is where the fun begins. You get 5 different amp models to work with, they are : Jazz, Tweed, Blackface, British, and Metal. I mainy use the Blackface amp for my overdrive sound. You also get several diffrent effects, such as delay, chorus, reverb, tremolo, etc. Most of them sound really good, but I do not like the reverb though. I would have like to have a separate reverb control. The reverb is also digital, not a spring reverb, and it doesn't sound as good. This model comes with a two-button footswitch, so you can change channels and turn the effects on and off. This amp is really light for a teo speaker amp. I would rather take this amp to a gig rather than my 100 watt Vox amp. Overall, I really like this amp and I would most likely buy another one if something was to happen to this one!

GREAT AMP FOR PEDALS

By Rocker Dan from Midwest on December 20, 2021 Music Background: Classic Rock,Blues

I like PEDALS, AND THIS AMP IS A FANTASTIC BASE FOR PEDALS. Having said that I'll explain why. When you plug in direct, I at least prefer an amplifier with tubes for a Varity of reasons, but for power and money this amp delivers loud, raw, clear power that accepts almost any pedal you put between it and your guitar! Also, this amplifier allows for you to plug in any guitar and intently sound like a pro-I have been playing through this amp with both my collector's Les Paul's, as the amp's effects are miles ahead of any tube amplifier now and also simulate a tube sound. I strongly advise this amp for the experienced beginner, and the experienced as well~

Great true fender tone, a lot to offer with vintage sounds just a bit disappointed with 1/4 inch jack inputs, plastic inserts has a wiggle in primary input, guess I will live with it. Shipping from east coast to Cal seemed to be a life time. all and all worth the wait.

Great!

By Sam W on August 11, 2021 Music Background: Guitar, drums, bass, recording.

Very loud especially for a 2x12, can easily get louder than a full band as long as their not going through a really big PA or anything, sounds very close to the amps it tries to emulate, you can tell the difference but only if you really listen in close, effects are pretty decent but not amazing, perfectly good for the money though. Overall great amp for the price and as usual sweetwater made everything very very easy!

Nice amp

By Reggie from Kansas on April 13, 2019 Music Background: 22 years on guitar

Not a bad amp. Very loud. Kind of having a hard time getting the drive channel to sound like I want it. Might get a Boss Blues Driver pedal and just use that. I loved that pedal when I had my Deluxe Reverb. Hoping to get a similar result with the Champion 100, granted it"s solid state, not a tube amp. Still a really nice amp though, especially for the money.

Good with Humbuckers

By Sweetwater Customer on March 30, 2019

Purchased this amp 1 year ago after trying it out in a store. Got it home and hooked up my Strat and it sounded flat and lifeless. All of my guitars have single coil pickups. Took it back to the store for refund. The store clerk hooked up humbucker equipped guitar and this amp was a different animal. Great sound, full and rich. So if you play with a humbucker guitar you will not be disappointed. For single coil guitars look elsewhere

TWO 12" Speakers and 100 watts

Good pick for working musicians as well as novices
Only thing I don't like is the Power Consumption is above 300 watts versus other amplifier around the same price range is less than 100 Watts!
Light weight as compared to my old Twin Reverb but clean sound quiet and with usable built in signal processing and a free foot switch!
Every thing I have asked for with the price!
I have bought the Gator Roto 212 transporter plastic freight case too, which fits perfectly but add another 14 lbs to the amp!

Great for the money

By J from Chapel Hill, NC on May 15, 2018 Music Background: Middle eastern and west African music

This is a really great sounding amp overall, and the foot switchable channels and effects per channel are great features to have, not to mention it is beautiful too!

Since the effects are standard fare, you won"t have as much control. I prefer a really slow chorus, which I can get, but not without setting the speed via tap tempo every time I turn the amp on. I wish it would save your tweaks- I suppose there was not enough real estate for another knob.

I like a little reverb with the chorus too, which I can also get, but not without sacrificing chorus depth so I"m not overly drenched in reverb. Ultimately I"ll have to get stompboxes to solve that, but at this price it is definitely not a deal breaker, and I"m sure not everyone will have the same issues.

Those issues aside I still think it is a great deal for the price, and a nice loud portable amp that will sound even better as it gets broken in.

I'm not too sure about the onboard effects right now. Haven't use the amp enough. Don't know in a live performance if it would work, if using outboard effects would be more practical.

The amp has great sound and plenty of push if you need it. Fender always has made great products.

Please help me to know how to get the metal effects and other important effects. But I'm sure it is an excellent speaker. Thanks so much that I'm receiving this speaker here in Samoa (American Samoa)
I'm so glad to have this speaker. That's the only thing that I really need help.

Fender Champion 100

By TK from Seattle, Wa. on June 16, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

This is not a tube amp, if you are looking for a tube amp this is not it. Now with that being said this amp still does a lot of things really, really well. The clean channel is a black face clean and it is nicely clean! Plug a tele with texas specials into it and you will love this amp! I mainly play an SG with 490r/490t humbuckers through it surprises me daily on how good it sounds for not being a tube amp. It does get loud if you want loud and it will do ok playing metal but use a pedal. The built in effects and amp models are very good, but will not work for everything. The reverb to me is a little flat, so I use a TC pedal and love it. For the price you will not find a better option anywhere! I love this amp and am very happy I got it through Sweetwater where customer service is top notch!

Thanks Sweetwater and thank you Jay Fredrick for all the great service, you guys rock! I'm a customer for life!

p.s. - The Fender twin 65 reissue amp cover fits this amp like a glove.

Good amp for a good price with a few drawbacks.

By Robb Gallo from Connecticut on April 5, 2019 Music Background: Amateur musician. Playing thirty years. Beatles. British invasion. Power Pop.

I've been a Line 6 player for a number of years (don't laugh, I was young and foolish), so the time had come to move on to a different amp. I'd never been a Fender amp guy, but I was well aware of their reputation and legacy. So I decided to take a flier on a Champion 100. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, and quite pleased with the end product.

First, the plenty loud. You'll have no problem getting the needed volume of it. The clean channel absolutely cranks!! It features a foot switch so you can alternate between the clean and FX channel, and it also features a power in and pre-out so you can connect an effects loop. The FX channel will give you a broad range of classic Fender and rock sounds, while the clean channel is based on a Fender "blackface" Twin Reverb. You also have a 3.5mm headphone jack and an AUX input for your phone/music player so you can practice without disturbing the neighbors. So it's an all around very versatile amp for your money.

There are however, a few downsides. One is the overall construction does feel a bit cheap. The input jacks are made of plastic and held in place with a metal mounting nut, and looks like they could be prone to breaking, so you might want to be careful with those. The amp as a nice classic rock n' roll look to it with the traditional top hat knobs and silver grill cloth, but the Fender logo plate looks a bit plain looking and not detailed. Even though there are 16 different "voices", the dial doesn't have an indicator or a number as to which voice you're selecting. Unlike the previous Line 6 amp, there's no 8ohm speaker jack, so you can't use this as head for a cabinet. And the weight of the amp feels a bit...well, "light". For these reasons it loses one and a half stars.

That's not to say that this isn't a good amp the price, but it would unfair to overlook the bad and only praise the good. This is a decent value for your money, and this would make someone a great bedroom practice amp, or a great starter amp for someone who is beginning their musical journey. You can get a broad range of sounds out of this amp from The Beatles, to Bowie, to Spinal Tap. So if you're looking for a good amp at a good price, you might want to consider this little Fender.

everything is absolutely true! but i havent come across anyone with a problem with the effect loop not working while on headphones... thats all really.

Decent

By Vince from Dirty Jersey on July 23, 2019 Music Background: Plays in a band

So far no present issues. My only gripe is the clean channel is not as clean as I would"ve imagined. There are times of a little grit that resonates. The effects are OK but my sole purpose of purchasing this amplifier was to achieve a loud clean sound.

SO IS IT GIGGABLE?

By Seth from Louisiana on September 26, 2017 Music Background: Performing Guitarist / Weekend Warrior

I've had mine for several months and I do gig with it. I WANT a nice valve amp, but cant afford one right now. So I gig with this, and I line out of the effects loop out into a powered mixer to give it some more bottom end. The amp is really good for the price. and YES it's giggable, but to a limit.
First off, the clean channel is pretty good. Sparkling Fender as you would expect. The effects on each channel are a nice touch, but I'll get to that. Dont think you can crank it to 7,8 or 10.......it will start sounding terrible, as solid state amps do when cranked. Use it at moderate volume, and it'll do fine.
The dirty channel is pretty horrible. The tweed, bassman,...cant remember all the names,..but the lower gain settings wrok pretty well,...but as for the metal and rock settings,...FORGET IT. Total nasty solid state ear piercing shrill harsh garbage. It may suit a bedroom jammer,..who scoops out all the mids and has no clue about cutting thru a mix, but for a gigging guitarist,..all you can do is like I do, ..USE STOMPBOXES for your dirt.
So here's what I did. I run this amp on the clean channel, with no effects at all,..except maybe a tad of reverb. I use a Mesa Flux overdrive pedal,..boss chorus and delay pedals,..and other effects,...and just use the amp as a " make louder" device. It will work fine for that. And the clean channel will work great. Then as I said you can either mic this amp to the P.A. (which I suggest because it sounds pretty thin)...or you can use the effects loop send as a line out to a mixer in a pinch.
So should you buy this amp? I looked at it like this. I wanted something NEW. I wanted something loud enough to gig with. I wanted something cheap, but dependable and sturdy. And being an old guitar player just getting back into it,..I had stompboxes...so I HIGHLY reccommend you use dirt boxes with this amp. If you can at the very least get a cheap boss OD and DS1,...you'll be ok. The onboard effects ARE useable, but limited for adjustments and settings,..and who wants to walk back to the amp between songs,..and fiddle with effects settings....But YES,...its a good amp,..that will perform,....just know that you cannot crank ANY solid state amp and expect it to sound good, keep it at 6 or below. It has enough power though to gig with at small clubs, and enough clean head room to suffice.
The footswitch works ok,...but there is a slight millisecond delay when switching channels,...so yea,..not good for live....again( get some stompboxes). Overall, it looks good,..its dependable,..its plenty loud,....effects are fairly useable,...just know its limitations. For a budget minded gigging musician,...yea,..it will get you by,... until you can get a nice tube amp. For the bedroom jammer,..absolutely suited perfect for you.
I think for the price,...its a decent buy. There are better,..there are worse. The cleans are really the star of the show here. The crunch channel is ok for the bedroom jammer,...not for a working musician.
Heck I figure when I do get a better amp,..I'll keep this one as a backup or rehearsal amp. You're not losing much anyways at this price point.

Fender Champion 100

By William Beutler from New Plymouth, ID on February 15, 2017 Music Background: 55 years plus. rock n roll, blues, jazz

It is a nice amp for the money. I should of kept the Fender stage 160 which was the same as the Champion except with celestion V12 speakers. Which gave the 160 clearity at most volumes and settings. So. I did replace the special design speakers (these seemed to be really distorted the louder I turned up the amp), good speakers but not for me. So I replaced them with the Eminence speakers. The combination of a Texas Heat and the Swamp Thang. What a difference this made. Volume at any setting. The selectable amp voicing, onboard effects and effects loop came alive. However it still is not a tube driven amp. So. Enter the Strymon Flint peddle effects with reverb and tremolo.Closes sound I've ever heard to a tube driven amp. Which I will be adding more of their line to my peddle board. Again the Champion 100 is a good amp. That's why the 3 star rating. 5 star if it had different speakers. Kind of ironic, I guess I should have purchased one the Deluxe reverb amps with the money I'm spending now changing this amp.

Uncertainty Clouds The Purchase

By Tom F. from Indianapolis on November 20, 2014 Music Background: Guitarist/Songwriter/Singer/Recordist

Purchased the Champion 100 from Sweetwater om=n an Monday, it arrived on a Tuesday, had a great time playing it that night.came home Wednesday and played through many of the models and presets having a blast when suddenly it started to smoke and spark and smell like hot metal.I turned her off and unplugged her, I will plug in tomorrow and see if it is functional as before, I was really starting to dig the variety of tones and ease of use, I never took the gain or volume on any channel past 5.

Fender Champion 100

By Herb W from Hialeah, Florida on November 5, 2013 Music Background: Pro Musician

Always liked the sound of a Fender combo amp. The clean channel had a tight sound, but after speaking with my sales rep, he informed me that I had to give the speakers time to break in. He was right. Got the fender sound I wanted. The amp puts out 100 watts and you can't beat the price.

classic 'meh' fender amp tone

By Sweetwater Customer on May 30, 2016

Lol@that dudes marketing rant, but its somewhat true. Ni just think instead of a better demo they just invested in many misleqding, bogus, fake positive reviews. You get what you pay for, if it's your first "gigging" amp or first amp you get to be able to play with a drummer I can see a valid market for it.

But allnthis up-talk about bothncannels being so great is a load of crap. Fender came through on the cleans, as they tend to do. Butsticking to tradition with a few exceptions the 2nd CH or 'dirty/distortion' channel sounds terrible stand alone. Having said that, since the clean is decent you could probably achieve a decent dirty tone with a proper stompboxes.

Or even better, a badass pre-amp "pedal" would turn this combo into a 2.5/10 to a 7.5/10. Something like a Mesa V-twin tube preamp pedal would do WONDERS.

I'm NOT saying don't get the amp, BC the price is indeed awesome, just know wat your getting. Don't expect a Marshall or peavey dirty tone without investing in a pedal of some sort. But if you need a loud enough amp to gig w/ a drummer un-mic'd you don't have a lot of options so i wouldn't hesitate trying one locally, just ask to use a distortion pedal too.

I'd also check out the cheaper Marshalls, Peaveys and maybe a cheapish Line6 even.

Only get if you like Clean tones

By Rick from Idaho on August 22, 2021 Music Background: Advanced Player

I was walking around Guitar center and this caught my eye because its a 2x12 100 watt for only 400 bucks. The price confused me because I have always been a Marshall guy and a Marshall this size with all these tools would be double if not triple the price. I bought it anyways. To me the gain channel sounds like garbage. If your a rock guy stay away from this Amp. If your a Blues and Jazz kinda guy its a great sounding Amp with the cleans with lots of options and tools. The price is in the Speaker quality. The gains sounds very Fizzy and Crunchy and Mumbled aka really bad.

The distortion settings have poor quality of sound.I believe fender could have done a better job with this product. The clean sound isn't to bad. When Fender created this amp to replace the Frontman 212,my opinion is they should have left well enough alone.I have a frontman 212 100 and it will run circles around the champion 100.As far as I'm concerned, the frontman is the real champion here.

By jerry jah from New York on April 26, 2018 Music Background: guitarist

just cheap around really cheap speakers cheap transformer holds no bass response made in china junk... This is a beginners amp. No seasoned player could use this in any situation, studio or live its a ridiculous toy.

NOT COMPREHENSIVE!

By Joe from Pennsylvania on June 27, 2014 Music Background: Journeyman, Commercial Recording

This was a horrible portrayal of this amp! I did NOT see or listen to ONE "sound" I would like to play! If you want to sell this amp, please provide a MUCH MORE comprehensive demonstration of ALL the possibilities this amp can provide to us, your guitar-targeted audience. If I only see this limited display from this video and did not know that Fender can produce SO much more from this amp that we never got to hear and listen to, I would NEVER purchase this amp, even at the current price. Your Marketing Department needs to spend a lot more time in requirements gathering and promotional development if you want to make some major coin in selling this amp which I believe has SO much more potential than what is portrayed in this limited video!

Broke after not turning it on for 6 months

By REILLY CHAPMAN from THOUSAND OAKS, CA on December 26, 2023

I've have this amp for 2 1/2 years, life got busy and I wasn't able to play guitar for about 6 months. When I tried to turn it on one day there was no sound. It's faulty. Steer clear of this amp. It's a waste of $ even tho it was nice when it worked it doesn't work now and it's past warranty so I'm screwed. Super disappointed. Don't buy this amp.

Not so Fast!

By Charlie from USA on December 25, 2016 Music Background: Sessionist/Performer

I can tell that this amp was on the right track, however transistors/solid-state is objectionable with most, not all true electric guitar players. I play with a very heavy 65 Fender Twin, and yes it is a dream! Reverb, clean, killer vibrato which I do not use, & Vox or equivalent speaker(s) it is OMG loud but hey 4 6L6GC; what would one expect? As far as the Fender "Champion", Fender just needs to make this a 1-12" 60 watt sound in a valve configuration, in this price range. It can be done, Fender can do anything! Clean, but not too clean, dirty but not to dirty, oh and stick with a real Wah and Overdrive of your choice if you wish.
Conversely you get what you pay for, and if you are afraid to take your gear out for what ever reason, then maybe this new Fender Amp is for you. Kind of like an old JC stereo chorus in another brand that I remember.

It's a jungle out there, go for it. Sweetwater is sweet about the undecided, I don't think anyone has miss- represented this amp in anyway. Let the good times roll.

Garbage or Broken
