High quality instrument

By Milton from Tampa on May 16, 2023

My first schecter and kudos to Mike Brandt for suggesting it was the one I was going to like because I was going for something else. Anyways I own a Ibanez Premium from the time that there was no Prestige line and compared to this, I don't know it's hard to take sides but the ultra thin neck on this schecter, the smooth fretboard and nicely polished frets I mean this is a really nice quality instrument. First thing I did was to lower the action because personal preference and I tuned it lower because that's how I roll. I played it for a couple of weeks without the locking nut and it stays in tune with just the tuners, even using (lightly) the tremolo bar and I put them back a couple of days back. The wood detail on the back is really nice and overall it's a beautiful instrument. The schecters I've played in the past had thicker neck and maybe that's the reason I never got one but now that I own this one surely there's a high probability that I get another in the future.

I'm a person that prefers giving negative feedback and low stars and I always read the bad reviews first because 5 stars are usually you know, new toy syndrome (by the way I got mine in February). I don't know it's likely my ibanez premium has better wood and the clear paint you can see the wood and the fret board has really nice binding. But this schecter has beautiful wood as well (in the back though) but looks really metal in black and I'd say the polishing of the fret board wood is superior which I love because it feels really smooth. Frets are shiny polished. If you have small hands you want this guitar.

For background I own Ibanez RG premium (no prestige era), ibanez artist (pre lawsuit), ibanez iron label (covid), Jackson dinky revers, Jackson King V, Strat, nylon string yamaha ncx3.

Amazing

By Robert Franke from GRAND HAVEN, MI on January 6, 2023 Music Background: Weekend professional

I bought this Bass around 6 months ago and I've played 20 plus shows with it and it is by far the best bass I've ever had. I use a pick and fingers and occasionally slap and it responds well to all 3 styles. I play mostly covers so I needed a bass that could blend in with or stand out as the songs need. This Bass adapts wonderfully just a slight turn of a knob and I have a full thunderous sound . A small turn back and the highs pop . We use in ear system and it sounds great also sounds great at practice with my Bugera amp or at home with my 410 x 15 stack thundering loud . It plays like butter. It's made it much easier to play some of the harder songs and I swear it's made me faster . Just a joy to play .

Best service anywhere

By Gary from Tehachapi, California on November 30, 2022 Music Background: 60 years at guitar. Learn theory, you’ll be glad you did!!!

Thanks to AJ Becarra for the top notch service and hospitality. This is top quality folks!!! I received my Schecter C-1 FR S Evil Twin and was blown away with the quality of Schecter guitars. The slim but long scale neck makes this guitar so easy to play and reach the upper octaves. The sustainiac pickup will scream at very faint volume. Freaking nice!!! I had no idea what I was missing out on. This is now my main guitar out of 44 customs. You can do so much with this guitar. Gotta getcha' one!!!

Great Buying Experience

By Sweetwater Customer on July 25, 2022

Sweetwater was great from the very beginning. I would change nothing about going through them to buy our sons new Schecter Evil Twin. It was shipped immediately and so was the case we ordered for it a week later. Received them both within 24 hours. Thank you so much Sweetwater.

Schecter Guitars are AMAZING!!!

By Mason from Fredericksburg, VA on July 21, 2022 Music Background: Playing guitar since 2006

Unbelievable, never did I think I would be able to own such a nice guitar, the design on this guitar is amazing. With the Sustainiac PU you can get some really cool wailing tones to get that awesome intro sound to the best of Metal music, this is a lead guitarists dream kind of guitar. It was amazing that the guitar came perfectly in tune out of the box and ready to play, the low action is like butter with 0 fret buzz. I can't wait to buy my next guitar from Sweetwater.

Great Guitar Setup Perfectly

By Paul W. Vicory from IL on March 5, 2021

First, this guitar is as beautiful in RL as it is in the photos. Out of the box, the guitar was setup perfectly. It arrived in tune, the intonation up and down the fretboard was excellent, the action was set just right. The guitar comes alive in your hands, and even without the Sustainiac on, it has resonance that just feels right. I record straight into a RME Babyface Pro FS and use Native Instruments new Guitar Rig 6 for all amps and effects and it sounds so good.

Come for the Sustainiac, stay for everything else!

By John from USA on March 2, 2021

What led me to this guitar was the Sustainiac pickup system. Tried one out at a local shop, really fun to play around with, but that used guitar wasn't quite right for me. Looked into new models, as the Evil Twin checks all my boxes. Satin finish, stainless frets, thin/flat neck, excellent upper fret access, Floyd Rose, tolerably light weight (mine is 7 lbs 7 oz).

I expected this to be a bit of a novelty guitar, something I'd use on occasion just for the Sustainiac but then put down to play my regular guitars (strats, Ibanez S prestige or premium, Ibanez JS), but I find myself liking the Schecter more than I imagined I would and in my first month I've barely played anything else.

I couldn't be happier with the service from Sweetwater (fair price, quick shipping, arrived in perfect condition) or the build quality and condition of the guitar. I'm a bit obsessive about details, which is why I didn't scoop up the used model locally, and I can't find *anything* wrong with this guitar. Not a single nick or scratch, no flaw in the binding, not an imperfect fret end, nothing. The setup was spot on out of the box, and it was easy enough to switch from 10s to 9s and remove a trem spring to give it the feel I prefer.

The only criticism I can come up with requires me to dig pretty deep: I don't like the placement of the volume knob, which is basically hidden behind/blocked by the trem arm. Aside from this, the design and execution are just perfect.

Top Shelf!!!

I have been a Schecter fan since I first picked up the Demon-6. I you love Schecter, you need the Evil Twin in your collection.

Mad at myself

By Eric on May 25, 2020

So this was my first schecter and first floyd rose guitar. I am so mad it took me so long to find this brand. There is not one thing, not one little nag, I can find about this guitar. I mean I could say I like D'Addario over EB Slinkys but really! This guitar is absolutely fantastic. Hardware-great. Fretwork-great. Finish-great. Binding-great. Setup-great. Pick an area you're concerned about-I have the answer for you-It's great. Schecter has some pride in their products and it shows. Thanks to Geoff Allen for everything...again.

Best Guitar i have ever owned.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 5, 2020

Since i got this guitar i literally have not stopped playing. It's been almost 20 years since i played. This is a well crafted guitar. Ben and his staff did a great job. Guitar was shipped just as the Virus hit the U.S. it took awhile. But it arrived in perfect condition. The setup is perfect the did a great inspection and setup. The sustainiac pickup works great it's unique and really fun to mess around with. It sounds incredible the pickups are crystal clear and sound is tight. I would definitely reccomend buying this guitar and i reccomend buying from sweetwater. Also i did follow the instructions and waited the 24hours before opening I've never heard of this before but it makes sense to me. So when i took it out i had no problems with anything ty for the advice. Ty

Absolutely incredible!!!

By Dan from USA on September 10, 2019 Music Background: Active musician

I will make it quick and simple....I've been playing for about 25 years and I currently own a couple Ibanez prestige, ESP standards, American strats and a number of other guitars in this price range or higher. I am honestly very impressed by the quality of this Schecter. Easily worth the money, I've paid more money for guitars that didnt play or sound near this good. Pretty versatile too for a guitar who's obvious goal is metal and to melt your face and it will. Thumbs up to Schecter, keep up the good work!!!

Schecter C-1 FR-S SLS Evil Twin - Satin Black

By Sweetwater Customer on February 16, 2019 Music Background: Gigging musician

Delivery and general remarks:
After buying this guitar from Sweetwater, it was delivered 2 or 3 days after the purchase, which was much faster than most of my online purchased guitars (typically delivered 1-2 weeks after the purchase). Perhaps I should note at this point that my 5-star-rating is reserved only for "100%- or almost-100%-perfect guitars that I cannot improve", which mostly translates into one-off, custom-made instruments with price tags many times higher than that of this super-great Schecter. For your info and as an example, I would rate most of numerous US-made, Custom Shop Fenders or Gibsons I have played somewhere between 1 and 3 stars. Consequently, giving this South Korea-made guitar 4 stars ("as it arrived from Sweetwater") and 4.5 stars in "its current shape" after my minor repairs and modifications clearly reflects an uncommonly high quality of this relatively affordable guitar.

Construction, design and intonation:
In general, the satin-like finish, design, balance and ergonomics of this guitar are much better-than-average. Its neck"s shape and thickness are very similar (at least I cannot feel any substantial difference) to those found in Ernie Ball Music Man JP models, which I really like, because their sculpted neck joints allow nonproblematic access to higher frets. The accessibility of higher frets in the Evil Twin is – due to its neck-through construction – even better! In addition, the slick, stainless steel frets of Evil Twin are very smooth, with no sharp edges and the neck plays really well with an incredibly low action and no buzzing. After I changed strings (I prefer the German Optima/Maxima strings) and adjusted the intonation, I was very pleasantly surprised how well this guitar can be intonated. In a nutshell, no matter what type of player you are, the playability of this very fast neck is second to none.

Floyd Rose bridge:
From my standpoint, one of the big pluses of this guitar is that its Floyd is very friendly to installing the EVH D-tuna. (Not all Floyds are so friendly in this regard.) Installing the D-tuna (which involves the elimination of the pitch-increasing function of the Floyd tremolo) is very convenient if you 1) play lots of tunes in drop-D tuning, 2) need to continue playing after you break a string during gigs and 3) want to change strings and tune your guitar VERY QUICKLY, which is close to impossible, if the pitch-increasing function of the Floyd tremolo is not blocked. Indeed, installing the EVH D-tuna in this guitar was one of the easiest out of many D-tuna installs I have done.

Electronics cavity:
The electronics cavity was only about 80%-painted with the conductive shielding paint and the soldering looked as if done by a 3-year-old, who never had a soldering iron in her/his hands before. When correcting these 2 little problems and unscrewing the pots (so that the control cavity could be fully re-painted to ensure proper shielding), the gentle manipulation resulted in the ground wires literally falling off the volume pot (obviously, the pot was not properly cleaned before soldering or not enough heat was applied, or both), which was not too surprising given the apparent very poor quality of the soldering job. Nevertheless, it was a piece of cake to fix these 2 little problems.

Pickups:
The sounds of Evil Twin"s pickups played through several ENGL, Hughes & Kettner, Carol-Ann, PRS, Blackstar and Fender amps are outstanding. The "regular sounds" of the sustainiac pickup in the neck position are somewhat reminiscent of the Seymour Duncan Jazz SH-2N pickup (which is one of my favorite neck pickups) and if you"ve ever played with the sustainiac pickup utilizing its controlled feedback sustain function – then you really never want to play without it! The Fishman Fluence bridge pickup also sounds great, although I probably slightly prefer the Allan Holdsworth KH12B (made by Kiesel) or Steve Stevens Rebel Yell (made by Bare Knuckle) in the bridge position. The guitar has a 3-way blade switch, sustainiac controls, one master volume and one master tone pot, which is "push-pull", switching between 2 different sounds of the bridge pickup.

My rating explanation:
So why am I rating this amazing guitar only 4.5 stars after completing all my repairs/modifications described above? If this guitar 1) had an ergonomic scooped arm contour similar to that found in the Ernie Ball JP6 or JP16 (this is not meant to imply that playing Evil Twin is somewhat awkward; merely, I wanted to suggest that the comfort of playing may be still increased), 2) was slightly lighter (my Evil Twin is 7lbs 6oz, which is definitely not "very heavy", but I personally prefer guitars weighing around 6lbs or less) and 3) had a kill-switch – then undoubtedly, I would rate it "5 stars". Typically, I replace the tone pots, which I never use, with kill-switches; here – if I want to preserve the 2 very useful sounds of the bridge pickup – I will have to buy a replacement push-pull volume pot before replacing the tone pot with the kill-switch.

Conclusions:
This is one of 10 best guitars I have ever owned; the remaining 9 being incomparably dearer Suhr, Vigier, PRS and Carvin/Kiesel Custom-made instruments. Kudos to Schecter for designing such a winner!
