Good Speeds for USB3

By Dennis from Holly Springs, NC on October 21, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

I hooked this up to USB3.1 ports on my 2014 Macbook and 2012 iMac and they get about 450 MB/s throughput which is quite faster than any SSD I own that isn't NVMe (I assume these are for those speeds)

You pay $$$ but you get speed. Before this, I struggled doing my family photo sorting, especially with iPhone sized photos (ie MB in the 10-20MB range) and with this, no problem opening up fast, copy and sorting fast.

I also use it for VSTi for my Studio and haven't heard a hiccup yet. But considering East West sell you an SSD with barely 100 MB/s, I suppose you don't need much speed, meaning this drive can do multiple VSTi's with ease and is probably (expense wise) definitely more suited for Video than audio or photo.

That said, If I had to do it all over again, it's easy enough to get a $ NVMe drive of 2TB and probably a decent OWC enclosure for less than $ out the door $ cheaper than a Glyph and upgradable.

That said, the Glyph is sturdy, plugs in and the connections aren't loose, and it opens up on my Macs with zero issues. So far. Only had it a month.

I took 1/2 star b/c I think these are at least $ more than market for a name brand that was in the market early but now has a lot of competition. They'll keep their price by doing upgrades in speed, but like I said, do the enclosure yourself. But do NOT buy a cheap chinese thing on Amazon. I do not see any good reviews of that overall. Get from a reputable place that deals with Apple products. I prefer Other World Computing (OWC)
