Genelec 8331 SAM 3-way Coaxial Powered Studio Monitor Reviews
For extraordinary imaging, extended frequency response, and fatigue-free listening at near- to midfield distances, you can't beat point-source monitoring. Genelec has point source nailed with their 8331 SAM. Part of Genelec's "The Ones" series, this revolutionary 3-way studio monitor combines Genelec's Acoustically Concealed Woofer (ACW) technology with other innovative technologies to deliver an impressively linear payload over a remarkably wide bandwidth, resulting in phenomenal imaging and clarity. At Sweetwater, we're impressed by Genelec's Smart Active Monitor (SAM) technology, which optimizes level, timing, and equalization of room response anomalies. The result is an amazingly tight, accurate sound with enormous dynamic range and unprecedented frequency response, regardless of where you choose to work. On top of that, these monitors perform optimally in both horizontal and vertical positions.

Genelec Hear the speakers not the room
Genelec 8331A pair with Genelec 7350A in my home studio is game changing for me. Room is 10.3 x 10.7 x 9' (Ceiling) I have good absorption, I thought my room sounded good with my Focal CMS65 prior to getting the Genelec. After install and calibrating with SAM now I know how much color my room was actually giving me. Genelec SAM technology is incredible. I can hear a tremendous difference in clarity and bass is clean and tight. It is a big jump in price from what I had before but it is worth every penny. The room / speaker calibration report from Genelec is incredibly detailed.
I get it now.
I purchased "Ones" because of Genelec's reputation and reading outlets like SoundonSound. I'm coming from Focal Shape 6.5 monitors.
I must say...Dang!!! I totally get it now. I know they're expensive as **** but worth it if you want some of the best.
This is a quote from my brother, also a musician/vocalist, upon hearing my first mix with them:
"Dude, one of the best mixes that I've ever heard you do. Excellent job! I can hear the depth in the track. Heck, at the vamp, you could turn the strings up more but they're fine if you like where they are. Good job, bro! Sounds warm and present. ****, **** those Shapes, give me my money back. I'm saving for them ******!!!!! LOL"
I've edited the expletives for general consumption, but he was obviously excited. :-)
He purchased my Shapes.
If you can take the sting of the price tag, you won't be disappointed.
Truly Magical
I have a small studio space and was looking to upgrade to new monitors. I've read many reviews on the Genelec "The Ones" series studio monitors but never actually heard them. I have heard other Genelecs in the past, so I figured these had to be at least as good. When I first turned these on, I could not believe the clarity, detail and stereo imaging! You really have to hear them to fully understand what I mean. Since I'm still renovating my studio I've spent a lot of listening to just about every song I have through these and it's amazing to hear things in songs that I never knew were there. Kudos to Genelec on these masterpieces!
