A/D Workhorse
The Aphex 142 was designed from the ground up to do one job exeptionally well: convert eight channels of analog input to ADAT. And you can rely on the 142 for just that. Plus, to ensure you're clocking at the maximum of 48kHz, the 142 also has a standard BNC word clock input so you can hook it up to any external clock.
Convenient LED indicators
Clipping afflicts every audiophile, but luckily the 142 makes it easy to catch. Each in put trimmer has a red LED that illuminates when the input signal exceeds +24dBu, so you can quickly back down the level. The 142 also has a handy single bi-color red/green LED labeled "Power/Locked" - it's red when it's receiving power, but doesn't have a clock connected. When it's properly connected to any valid word clock, the LED turns green so you know you're ready to go.
