Have you ever wondered why Leo Fender said G&L guitars are “the best instruments I’ve ever made”?
Right off the bat, let’s get into the wiring and controls.
I’ve modified the wiring with 2 Push/Push pots. The volume DPDT pot toggles the series/parallel (parallel with both pickups selected, series in all 3 pickup positions).
The middle tone DPDT pot toggles in and out of phase with both pickups selected.
Both Push/Push pots are Bournes pots.
It still has the G&L PTB (Passive treble/bass) tone pot circuit wiring as well!
All the wires have been replaced with vintage style cloth pushback wire.
The entire cavity is shielded with copper shielding tape, keeping this guitar as quiet as possible at all times, even the output jack cavity is shielded too!
The tuners are vintage Fender style tuners.
I’ve put black volume/tone knobs on for a bit of contrast.
The wiggle stick (whammy bar) is included.
It is currently set up 1/2 step down (D#/Eb standard) with 11-48 Ernie Ball strings.
There are some small/minor scratches on the lower bout around the bridge that can easily be buffed out.
The last photo shows the most major scratch which is on the back of the lower bout near the output jack, it looks much worse than it actually is.
I think this guitar looks and sounds killer. However, I don’t play it nearly as much as it should be played.
You can play surf rock, punk rock, regular old rock n roll, and you can even have it in series and out of phase simultaneously to jam out to some Queen tunes as well.
Other than all the modifications I’ve done, it’s your standard tribute series G&L, comfortable to play, and the quality is fantastic at this price point. I mean, it’s got an actual rosewood neck!
