Used Music Gear & Audio Marketplace - Gear Exchange

What happens after I make a sale? When do I get paid?

To help protect our community of buyers and sellers, your first few sales may include an extended payout timeline (typically an additional 1-2 days after item delivery is confirmed). Once that period is complete, your funds will be released either to Hyperwallet or as a Sweetwater Gift Card, depending on the payout method you selected.

Pro Tip: Each time you create a new listing, you can choose your preferred payout method for that item. Once funds have been transferred, the payout method is considered final and cannot be changed.

Where’s My Payout?

Here’s an overview of how the Gear Exchange payout timeline works:

Sellers New to Gear Exchange

1 Item Sold. You’ll receive an email with shipping instructions or next steps for arranging local pickup. You have 3 days to ship the item and provide tracking information (or confirm the pickup).
2 Item Delivered. After you’ve shipped the item or completed local pickup, delivery will need to be confirmed.
3 Funds Transfer. Your earnings are sent via your selected payout method. You’ll receive an email notification once your funds have been disbursed. For your first few sales, Gear Exchange may employ additional verification processes that may result in a longer payout timeline (typically an additional 1-2 days after delivery confirmation).

Additional Verification Process

Gear Exchange may determine, at its discretion, that certain additional verification processes are needed prior to payout, which may delay initiation of payout to you (typically an additional 1-2 days). Gear Exchange relies on various risk factors (and whether and how these factors have changed over time) to determine if and how closely your payout may be reviewed:

  • How long you’ve been selling on GX (including time since your first sale)
  • Sales patterns (speed, volume, price, types of products)
  • Credibility of shipping tracking information
  • Ratio of problem reports opened by buyers relative to your sales
  • Suspensions or warnings already received
  • Shipping status of active orders
  • Other common fraud indicators identified at our discretion

Gear Exchange also reserves the right to perform additional verification for payouts if/when fraud is suspected, in order to investigate further. In such cases, someone from our team may reach out to verify your identity. This is for your protection and ours.

Separately, if we believe that a seller's actions may result in excessive buyer disputes, chargebacks, increased risk of fraud, or other claims, or if applicable law requires it, then we may, at our discretion, initiate a payout delay on the seller’s balance (and on any accounts Gear Exchange determines are related to the seller account in question).

Other Payout Delays

In some cases, payout transfers could be temporarily delayed by an issue at Gear Exchange, Hyperwallet, other third-party service providers, or a seller’s bank. We’ll do our best to communicate with any affected seller as soon as we can.

Experienced GX Sellers

After a few successful sales and at least one month of selling on Gear Exchange, your account may be eligible for the “Fast Payouts” program. Fast payouts will be initiated as soon as the order status is In Transit — typically within a few hours of the first shipping scan.

For Your Protection & Ours We understand that you want your funds as quickly as possible. However, with the ever-changing landscape of online activity — including AI-driven scams and fraud attempts — this short delay for new Gear Exchange sellers helps to ensure a safer, more secure experience for everyone in our community.
