This is a made in Japan EWS Tri-Logic Bass Preamp II. Its a good pre with true bypass, 3 band EQ, Passive/Active circuitry and a Midrange Hi - Low switch.
These are not known for developing high overdrive. Running the vol and gain up around 3oclock seems to be normal with a passive bass.
What it does do well is bring an articulation of the bass, adding some presence and space to fit in the mix. It is a good pre to add the extra needed with a good bass, but not really what I'd call an overdrive. They are pretty highly regarded however for what they do, and do it well.
Runs at 18vdc. Can take batteries, but I've only used it on a board using 18vdc from a power supply. I did not buy this new, so I do not have a box or manual for it.
