I offer here a great, entry-level five-string bass. It was a low-cost experiment which convinced me I could play a five string bass. It may serve the same purpose for you. And even if you decide you don’t like a fiver, you can then pass it along to someone else.
I purchased this bass, brand new, from Sweetwater in March, 2025. In the same shipment, I ordered a set of the durable and popular TI Jazz Flats, ( JF 345; 43, 56, 70, 100, 136), installing them on this bass immediately upon receiving it. I wanted to see just how a great set of strings on a basic instrument would sound. Spoiler alert; it sounds great.
I played this bass in public as part of our church band for nine months. Having the extra five lower notes fit in much of the music we played. My band-mates were very positive about the sound in our mix. The low B is very solid, clear and articulate. The TI Jazz Flats worked wonderfully and are fantastic strings. I’d buy another set in a heartbeat. I’ll leave them on this bass for you. They are a joy to play. And they last for years and years.
Besides the strings, I did one other upgrade, installing a Pure Tone Jack. I found it more reliable than the stock jack. This jack has a satisfying “double click” you hear and feel when you plug in. Confidence.
This bass has no cosmetic defects, dings or scratches. I’m the only owner and the only person who has played it. Our home is smoke-free and pet-free. It will ship to you double boxed, packed with care. I’m also open to a pickup in central Indiana.
I’m only selling this because I eventually stumbled into quite an upgrade to a Yamaha 5 String which is even better. That decision frees this one to get back out into the wild.
