You are looking at one of the most spectacular amplifiers for home studio recording, and live performances. 6 EL34 power tubes, 3 5U4G rectifier tubes, and 5 12AX7 preamp tubes give you endless headroom, musical sag for bluesy licks or post-modern DOOM SLUDGE, and thick mid-gain maintaining note articulation and musicality. This amp is often overlooked for being the black sheep among its legendary counterparts (Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier, Dual Recto, and Badlander). Having owned this amp for the better part of decade, I can tell you it always found a way to make it onto a Metal, Hard Rock, or Country record. The great thing about this amp that I love is that it has channel independent Silicon Diode or Tube Rectifier settings. So you have a great Channel 2 Metal sound, and flip to a fantastic Channel 1 bluesy sound...or mix and match it however you want.
Channel 1's Fat Cleans are full and articulate, while the Tite Clean and Crunch settings give you just enough breakup to push greenbacks into a sweet full SRV sounding crunch without the need of an overdrive pedal.
Channel 2 gives you everything from 2203 series JMP Jeff Beck/Iron Maiden crunch to snarly JCM800 80's Metallica/Slayer overdrive tones. What is really unique about this particular channel on this amp is that it sounds best with Celestian 45 Watt Creamback and/or 25-watt Greenback 8-ohm speakers. The sound of this channel is quite vintage, but it has that recto flavor that truly is the hallmark of Mesa/Boogie amps from this time period. I found that this channel in particular amplifies the flaws of V30s, especially Chinese V30s making the tone extremely bright. So, I would avoid pairing this amp with a cabinet that is loaded with V30 speakers, but perhaps that flavor is something you enjoy...to each their own I suppose.
CONDITION: Never gigged smoke free staple studio piece. Tubes were changed about 2-3 years ago. Very Low Hours...maybe 40-50 hours of use on them. The tolex is in great condition. It sat on my amp shelf and was mainly used for overdrive guitars.
