I’ve had a soft spot for oddball Gibsons that actually deliver, and this Victory Figured Top is one of those guitars that makes you wonder why Gibson doesn’t lean harder into this shape. This particular one in Iguana Burst is wild in the best way—aggressive, modern, and unmistakably Gibson, but way more ergonomic than you’d expect. Honestly, it feels like Gibson took some of the attitude of an Explorer, cleaned it up, made it more balanced, and turned it into something you actually want to keep in your hands for hours.

The figured Iguana top is the first thing that gets you. In normal light it already looks great, but once it catches some depth the finish absolutely comes alive. The green shifts from toxic neon to darker emerald around the edges, and the figured maple underneath gives it that moving, three-dimensional look that cheap tops just do not have. It’s one of those finishes that feels impossible to ignore in person.

Condition-wise, this one is basically where you want a newer guitar to be. I’m the original owner, it’s only been played a couple of times, and it’s been stored properly in its case. The only real thing worth mentioning is one tiny scratch on the back. Other than that, it’s extremely clean and presents like a very lightly handled instrument.

What makes this model especially cool is that Gibson didn’t just bring the Victory name back for nostalgia. The current Victory Figured Top was brought back as a modernized version of the old ’80s cult favorite, with refined body contours, improved balance, an Explorer-style scimitar headstock, a 25.5" scale, ebony board, SlimTaper neck, 24 medium jumbo frets, and dual 80s Tribute humbuckers. It also comes stock with push/pull controls for coil splitting and inner/outer coil selection, so there’s a lot more range here than the simple control layout suggests. Gibson ships the model with a hardshell case as standard, too. (Gibson)

In hand, this one feels fast, light, and ridiculously comfortable. At roughly 6 to 7 pounds, it has that easy, almost effortless feel that makes you play longer without fighting the guitar. The longer 25.5" scale gives it a little more snap and tension than a traditional Les Paul-style setup, and the ebony board plus 24-fret layout make it feel a lot more modern and precise. Gibson also designed this model with the compound-radius fingerboard and SlimTaper carve specifically to make it quick and easy under the hands, and that definitely tracks with how this one feels. (Gibson)

Tonally, it covers a lot of ground. The 80s Tribute humbuckers have that punch and authority you want from a Gibson, but the platform itself has a tighter, more immediate response than a lot of chunkier single-cut models. The coil-splitting and inner/outer coil selection give it a legitimately broad range of sounds, so it can move from thick humbucker drive to brighter, more cutting tones without feeling gimmicky. Add in the mahogany body with the AA figured maple cap, and you get that nice blend of warmth, attack, and clarity. (Gibson)

What stood out to me:

The figured Iguana Burst top is absolutely insane in person

Extremely light and comfortable, around the mid-6 to 7 pound range by feel

Modern Gibson feel with better balance and upper fret access than you’d expect

25.5" scale and ebony board give it a snappier, more precise response

80s Tribute humbuckers with coil split and coil select make it way more versatile than it looks

Original owner example with original hardshell case and case candy

Like all my guitars, this one’s been cared for and dialed in—no guesswork, no surprises, just a great instrument that’s ready to play. I personally inspect and test every guitar before it ships, making sure it’s in the exact condition I’d want to receive myself. These guitars come from me, not a shop—each one gets the kind of attention and care only a real guitar lover gives. Ships fast and insured.
