Here is a beautiful dulcimer from the Dulcimer Shoppe in Mountain View, Arkansas. This McSpadden model M8-W Appalachian Dulcimer is signed by Richard Stoltz, master craftsman and luthier. It features a slimmer body, designed for easy travel, and may be a more comfortable dulcimer for youth or small adults. “The smaller soundbox of the M-8 and M-8W gives them a sweet, quiet voice with more emphasis on treble tones.” (From the McSpadden Catalog) 35.5” long, 5 7/8” wide, 2 1/4” deep. The head was referred to as a leprechaun shoe curl. This vintage (1970s) M-8-W model has a walnut soundboard, sides, and back, and is in great condition with no cracks and shows minimal wear for its age. It has a VSL (Vibrating String Length) of 28 ½”, and well-defined heart-shaped cutouts on the soundboard. Tuned D A D D, this dulcimer has a sweet, mellow tone that only aged tone woods produce.
