This professional-level symphonic tenor trombone was purchased new in 2001 and played by eldest son through high school (4 years). Recently ultrasonically cleaned and thoroughly checked out by our local band instrument repair shop - instrument is in great condition!
About this horn (from Bach): the 42A is known for its rich, classic sound, featuring a large .547" bore and an 8.5" hand-hammered yellow brass bell for great projection and a warm tone, but its defining feature is the Swiss-made Hagmann Free-Flow rotary valve, which offers an exceptionally open, less-resistant airflow for smoother transitions and a more natural feel in the open-wrap F attachment, making it a favorite for orchestral and solo work. Key Features:
• Hagmann Valve: Provides an extremely free-flowing, balanced air path, eliminating the back pressure often found in traditional rotors for effortless playing.
• Open Wrap F Attachment: The tubing is routed with wider, smoother bends for a more open feel in the low register.
• Large Bore (.547"): Contributes to a big, full, and resonant sound.
• Yellow Brass Bell: A one-piece, hand-hammered 8.5" bell delivers classic Bach projection and tone.
• Nickel Silver Inner Handslides: Ensure smooth, quick action.
• Finish: Typically clear lacquer, adding subtle warmth to the sound.
• Ideal For: Professional symphonic playing, solo performances, and chamber music.
Benefits of the Hagmann Valve:
• Enhanced Playability: Smoother transitions between open and valve notes.
• Improved Resonance: A more open windway promotes better resonance and a solid core.
• Reduced Effort: Requires less air to blow through the F attachment.
