The Hammerschmidt-Klingson Serkan Cagri Custom Clarinet in G (Grenadilla) is a special order long-wait direct-sale-only instrument from Germany, using wood that has been properly cured for 30+ years. The Hammerschmidt brand is the premier brand of German clarinets, of similar stature to Buffet for French-style clarinets. Their regular Bb Clarinets have a grand reputation.
I ordered the G Clarinet because pre-COVID I was getting more deeply involved in Balkan Music and Turkish/Middle Eastern Music, and the Clarinet in G is the standard for that (including Greek Music) but I didn't want to suffer a low quality instrument made of metal, olive wood, or from a manufacturer that doesn't properly cure the wood for decades to prevent it from cracking.
This is the top model available, period. It has a few extra features beyond the normal G Clarinet model from that maker, but I can no longer find their website and don't remember which keys are the extra convenience fingerings that this one adds.
I need to sell some stuff to afford upgrading my plastic bass clarinet to a wood model, and as I haven't found anyone to do those musical styles since COVID pushed me to VA from CA, and as the Oehler fingering system combined with this instrument's length is a struggle for me due to having tiny hands, short fingers, and a pinky that is 2" shorter than my other fingers, I am reluctantly parting with this instrument. It will of course need to go on non-local sites as well due to its specialty nature.
The lower register of this instrument really growls, more like a bass clarinet does than what an alto clarinet sounds like in its lwoer register! The upper registers sound similar to an A Clarinet or even a Bb, but a bit darker in timbre, as one would expect.
Clarinets in G are soprano clarinets unless they have a bulbous bell (this one doesn't), in which case their bore is different and they are called Clarinet d'Amore (even rarer than this model!). I have a mouthpiece and ligature for sale that are standard soprano clarinet but slightly wider tip opening to accommodate the deeper voicing of a G Clarinet. The bore is the same as an A or Bb model though.
You can use any of your Bb or A clarinet accessories on this model. You might want a softer reed just due to the lower voicing.
Note that the stock barrel is quite long -- 70 mm. I didn't bother doing a Clark W. Fobes barrel upgrade as a result (I use aftermarket Fobes barrels and bells on my Bb, A, C, and Eb Sopranino clarinets). It's a very good barrel though, and a bit bulbous as you can see.
This comes with a good quality case #118b. Inflation is awful so these have gone up in price but I don't know the current price as the model seems to have been discontinued, at least for indirect sale through Thomann in Germany. It was $3800 the last I checked.
This is an interesting voicing as its low register is more like a Bass Clarinet but overall it sounds a bit more like a standard soprano clarinet (albeit quite a bit darker and throatier) than an alto clarinet. Tjhose who are dissatisfied with alto clarinet in general, may find this an interesting voicing to add.
As the G Clarinet works with Bb Clarinet mouthpieces, feel free to bring your preferred mouthpiece/ligature/reed to try it out. Excvept for non-local buyers, I obviously expect people to be able to see if they can handle the ergonomics of this longer instrument and the two or three forked fingerings of the German Oehler system (no Boehm model available for this!). There is a website that shows the fingerings and I printed a copy. The main one that catches you right away is in the lower joint, for the F# (when in clarion register).
Some of the photos are fuzzy for some reason, probably due to low lighting. I am super-slammed for time right now so I'll have to edit the photos later to adjust contrast and sharpness. Most of them came out fine. Some photos may include some of the accessories that are in separate ads, just for context, but of course those extras won't affect your price if you know you want them. I just don't want people cannibalizing my sale for their own profit, as all my stuff is hard to find, specialist, ands best for people who also did the research.
Due to this being a high priced item and both UPS and FedEx (but not USPS) being cheap to ship even to the west coast, I am offering free shipping, unless you need special overnight express.
Some of the photos were taken before the separately bought mouthpiece and ligature were sold; they are not included. I was using a Clark Fobes 10K 3L model with Bonade Inverted Ligature. Highly recommended; I tried many combinations on this instrument. Any standard Bb Clarinet mouthpiece, ligature, and reed, will work though.
