This vintage beauty has been cleaned and polished, however, the older original Gaohongtai name stamps have been preserved. This Wuhan China cymbal has some minor shallow scratches and one small chip at the edge - no cracks. This cymbal has unique sonic characteristics, and has a beautiful dark, explosive, trashy and unusually exotic sound. It sounds as raw as it looks. However, when struck with a yarn mallet, this cymbal produces a dark shimmering sound with a very long decay horizon – for kind of a thunder and lightning effect. But when hit with a drum stick this baby cuts through the band and brings a nice splashy accent to your cymbal setup.
Wuhan cymbals and gongs are made in the Wuhan province of China. Originally the name of the factory was "Gaohongtai" and renamed to its current iteration, WUHAN, during the 1960’s. The original name was used again for a while in the 1980’s. This vintage cymbal actually measures 17.5 inches (odd sizes were common for these cymbals in that era) and is stamped with the Gaohongtai name which places it in the 1980’s decade and that’s when this cymbal was originally purchased.
