1961 Les Paul SG Standard (Aged Classic White) w/ EGCS Hardshell Case.

NOTE: Due to receiving a hardshell case today for another guitar, I now have a box that is reasonably close to the dimensions of this guitar in its case. We can only set one shipping cost, in advanced, and the range for east coast ($75) vs. west coast ($150) is huge, so I set it closer to the east coast shipping cost, knowing that adding insurance will also add to that estimate.

This is the closest Epiphone has come to matching the specs of the original "Les Paul" SG issue from Gibson in 1961. The horns are slightly different, as on all SG models through the years, but the pickup windings are very close, as is the neck profile. Good weight balance, no neck diving, and comfortable to play.

Also known as the 60th anniversary edition and released in 1961, mine is from near the end of the production year and was bought in 2022. It has never been gigged or exposed to smoke, and hasn't been played much at all as I got busy taking care of a new house at that time.

The expensive Epiphone EGCS SG hardshell case was bought separately and was around $130. I actually think it is nicer than my Gibson Les Paul case!

These sell for $950 new, without a case, so the total outlay was around $1000, and it's in near mint condition, barely touched!

I went through all my guitars this week and decided I don't need an SG after all. I'm more of a Fender guy anyway. I just don't feel I get anything different enough from an SG that I can't cover with other guitars. In some ways, I feel like the SG sounds a bit like the Firebird vs. the Les Paul.

It was set up professionally by one of the area's three top luthiers, and I put expensive Pyramid round core strings on it, which I feel do a good job of taming a bit of the high-end harshness that can occasionally accompany the SG and Firebird series. The specific set is "455 100".
