Lets take a moment to talk about the audio outs. You will see there are ten, configured as pairs labeled Mix, A, B, C, & D (or six, labeled Mix, A, & B for the K2000 keyboard version). It is important to understand that even though there are ten jacks, there are only 8 routable outs (or 4 routable outs on the keyboard). The Mix Outputs function one way for the K2000 and K2500, and another way for the K2600.<\/p>\n
For the K2000\/K2500: <\/p>\n
When you route a signal, you choose the A, B, C, or D pairs and the appropriate panning position. But all audio signals come out of the Mix pair, until you physically plug a cable into a separate out. At that point, any signal routed to that out is removed from the Mix and comes out of that particular out. So if you plug cables into all of the separate outs, there will be no signal coming from the Mix outs.<\/p>\n
To route something through the standard effects processor in your K2000 (or a K2500 without the KDFX option), you need to set the output to A. But the effects actually only come out of the MIX outs. So if you plug cables into the A outs then, you will not be able to use the effects. For this reason, a typical way users will wire their units is to plug into the MIX, B, C, and D pairs. <\/p>\n
You can route the Outputs in one of two places: 1. You can do it on a per layer basis in a program on the OUTPUT page in the Program editor. 2. You can do it on a per MIDI channel basis using the OutPair parameter on the MIDI Channels page. Please read about this parameter in the manual for more info.<\/p>\n
The separate outs can also be used as insert points for external instruments, or to route a 2500 signal to an external effects processor and back into the instrument. For more on this, consult your manual.<\/p>\n
For the K2600:<\/p>\n
In the K2600, the Mix Outs ALWAYS carry a combined signal of everything sent to the A, B, C, & D output jacks. Also different from the K2000 and K2500 – the separate outs can’t be used as inserts. <\/p>\n
Audio Routing with KDFX for the K2500 and K2600<\/p>\n
Once you add KDFX, there is a new level of output routing added. When you assign a sound to output A, B, C, or D, in the program editor, or on the MIDI channels page, it DOES NOT mean that the signal goes to those physical outputs. <\/p>\n
Instead it means that it the sound is sent to the A, B, C, or D inputs to the KDFX. At that point, the signal is routed to the FX1, 2, 3, or 4 FX Buses, and from there to the physical output jacks.<\/p>\n
You choose which physical output the signal will be sent to on the Output page of the Studio editor (for the current studio). If you are using one of the preset Studio, ALL of our Studios have all four FX buses sent to the A Outputs. If you wanted to use all four of the stereo pairs, you might try starting by editing the Output page in the Studio editor in the following manner:<\/p>\n
Out A: FXBus1
Out B: FXBus2
Out C: FXBus3
Out D: FXBus4<\/p>\n
It is important to keep in mind that the physical routing to the Mix jacks described at the beginning of this document still applies when KDFX is routed. If you wish to send everything out of the Mix outs with each effect bus sent to a separate effect, you can still do this as long as no cables are plugged into the separate outs. But because the signal is now run through the original circuitry of the regular Digitech effects, the signal will not be as quiet and clean as when using the separate outs.<\/p>\n
