Things to try when DP  audio is not working properly."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Need help troubleshooting your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/DigPerf9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Digital Performer<\/a> software? This&nbsp;checklist will help you find possible solutions to your audio problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Check Software Version<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Check your software version and be sure to frequently check for <a href=\"http:\/\/motu.com\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">download updates<\/a>&nbsp;as needed. Software such as Digital Performer, MOTU Audio System, and FreeMIDI are often updated. There are two easy ways to&nbsp;check which version of MOTU software you&#8217;re currently running:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>In the <strong>FreeMIDI Applications<\/strong> folder or <strong>Digital Performer<\/strong> folder the application icon will be titled with its version (eg:&nbsp;Digital Performer\u2122 3.02 or&nbsp;FreeMIDI Setup 1.47)<\/li><li>Locate the following folder:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Macintosh HD<\/strong> &gt; <strong>System<\/strong> &gt;&nbsp;<strong>Extensions<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>MOTU<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;<strong>MOTU Audio System<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Make sure it is highlighted<\/em>)<\/li><li>Together, press <strong>Apple<\/strong>&nbsp;and letter <strong>I<\/strong> to open the <strong>Get Info<\/strong> window. The information window will show the version (eg: 2.33).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Check Other Projects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure your problem is not just one particular project. Open another project or create a new project and see if the problem still exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Okay, my problem is only on one project!<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>If this is the case,&nbsp;use the Load function by closing any current DP projects and create a new project. Next, go to <strong>File<\/strong>, click <strong>Load<\/strong> function, and open the file that is causing the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>:&nbsp;<em>Loading a sequence into a new project can oftentimes fix the problem; check out page 21 of the <a href=\"http:\/\/cdn-data.motu.com\/manuals\/software\/Digital%20Performer%20User%20Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DP9 user guide<\/a> for more info.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>In the Basics Menu:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5>Check the Audio Hardware Settings<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Basics&nbsp;menu, choose <strong>Configure Audio System<\/strong>&nbsp;and select <strong>Configure Hardware Driver<\/strong>. Here, you&#8217;ll need to check a few things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Clock Source:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Not using any digital connections like optical, SPDIF, etc.? Your Clock Source should be <em>Internal<\/em>.<\/li><li>You are using digital connections? Make sure the Clock Source matches the source (eg: If you&#8217;re sending Optical into your MOTU System, your Clock Source should be <strong>Optical<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Samples per Buffer setting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raise the buffer size one step at a time, and see if performance improves. While you do this, it helps to watch the Performance window.\u00a0<em>System problems like sluggishness or clicks and pops can be caused by smaller buffer size<\/em>s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Inputs and Outputs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disable any inputs and outputs you don&#8217;t need. Since each input and output that is enabled use system resources, having fewer enabled can often help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Check DP&#8217;s Studio Configuration.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Basics menu, click <strong>Configure Audio System<\/strong>\u00a0and select <strong>Configure Studio Size<\/strong>.<br>1. Set the number of voices in your Studio Configure appropriately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>:\u00a0<em>As a general rule, set the amount of Mono Voices, Stereo Voices, and Stereo Busses to no more than what you&#8217;ll actually use. If you only have about 16 mono tracks, and 2 stereo tracks, don&#8217;t make your Studio size any larger &#8211; it won&#8217;t fix anything.<\/em><br>2. Keep <strong>Disk Read\/Write Size<\/strong> and <strong>Buffer Size per Voice<\/strong> at their defaults. These almost never need to be changed. The defaults are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td><em>Defaults<\/em><\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Disk Read\/Write Size<\/th><td>200 (or 150)<\/td><\/tr><tr><th>Buffer Size per Voice<\/th><td>400 (or 350)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<h5>Run DP without MAS running<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Basics&nbsp;menu, choose <strong>Audio System<\/strong>, and select <strong>MIDI Only&nbsp;<\/strong>to see if DP will run better without MAS running.<br>For a more effective way to disable the MOTU Audio System and test DP, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Quit all applications, open the System, and choose\u00a0<strong>Extensions<\/strong><\/li><li>Drag MOTU folder to Desktop<\/li><li>Restart the computer and try running Digital Performer<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>:\u00a0<em>There will be no audio; only MIDI.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Trim Extensions and Check Sound Control Panel<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/extension-manager-trim-extensions-for-motu-software-hardware-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trim extensions<\/a> to reduce the possibility of conflicts. Next, make sure the <strong>Sound Control Panel<\/strong> output is set to <strong>Built-in<\/strong>\u00a0while DP is running so your Mac OS does not use the same audio hardware that DP is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Disable Your Audio Hardware and Third Party Plug-ins<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In\u00a0the Basics menu, select <strong>Configure Audio System<\/strong>, choose <strong>Configure Hardware Driver<\/strong> and change the hardware setting to <strong>Sound Manager<\/strong>. Then, test your system running audio through Sound Manager so the audio can play through your Mac&#8217;s audio speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also try disabling any third-party plug-ins. Try placing the <strong>MOTU<\/strong> folder back into the <strong>Extensions<\/strong> folder. Then, click the MOTU folder and find the <strong>Plug-ins<\/strong> folder. Pull any third-party plug-ins (VST Wrapper, Powered Plugins, PowerCore, Waves, etc.) onto the desktop.\u00a0See if DP works better with MAS running, but those plugins disabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Still not working?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4>Let&#8217;s try a few other things:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5>Check Digital Performer&#8217;s memory allocation<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out how much RAM DP has allocated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Open the Digital Performer folder, click once on the icon <strong>Digital Performer\u2122 3.02<\/strong> so that it is highlighted.<\/li><li>Go to\u00a0<em>File<\/em>, click <em>Get\u00a0info<\/em>, and then click <strong>Memory<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>:&nbsp;<em>You can adjust the Preferred size, by typing in a new value. DP3 (3.02) works best with a Preferred size of 120,000 (k) to 150,000 and is recommended to not go higher.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Trash Preferences<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to trash preferences, quit all applications and&nbsp;open the Macintosh HD in your system drive. Next, open the Systems folder and go to Preferences. From there,&nbsp;drag the following items into the <strong>Trash Digital Performer Preferences<\/strong> (folder):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>MOTU Audio System Preferences<\/li><li>MOTU 324 Preferences OR MOTU Firewire Audio Prefs<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you can restart the computer, launch your FreeMIDI Configuration First, and then launch DP. Finally, use the Configure Hardware driver to set your hardware back up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Rebuild the Desktop<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>After quitting all applications, Restart the computer, immediately pressing and holding <strong>Option<\/strong> and <strong>Apple<\/strong> (Command) all the way through rebooting. When the prompt asks, &#8220;<em>are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop file?<\/em>&#8220;, choose <strong>yes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Zapping the PRAM<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>After quitting all applications, restart the computer, immediately pressing and holding these four keys: <strong>Option<\/strong>, <strong>Apple<\/strong> (Command), and the letters <strong>P<\/strong> &amp; <strong>R<\/strong>. While holding these&nbsp;keys, you&#8217;ll hear the Mac chime again. Let the Mac chime three times, before releasing the keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Check your Hard Drive<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Check your hard drive with a disk utility like Disk First Aid (included free with all Macs from Apple), Norton Utilities, or Disk Warrior.<br><strong>Note<\/strong>:&nbsp;<em>It&#8217;s always safe to follow their recommendations to repair stuff that they find wrong on your hard drive.<\/em>&nbsp;<em>If your Disk utility has a Defragmenting or Optimizing utility, use that option only after checking and repairing any problems on the disk.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>Reinstall your Digital Performer<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>This works best when removing all DP related software.&nbsp;Feel free to take a look at our article that walks you through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/reinstalling-dp3-removing-all-items-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">how to reinstall DP3<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Contact Technical Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If none of the above works, contact <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sweetwater Technical Support<\/a>.
