Note: page numbers refer to pages in the pdf manual for the DM3200. Also, the images in this tutorial were taken from a DM4800. If you see some extra options that are not on your board, that’s why.<\/p>\n

Set the output routing <\/b>(see p.49):<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Go to the Routing>Output Slot<\/b> screen by holding the Alt<\/b> button and pressing the Routing <\/b>button.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Use Pod 3 <\/b>knob to select Slot 1 1-8<\/b>, and use Pod 4<\/b> to set Source Select<\/b> to Buss\/Direct<\/b>.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Set Outs 1-8<\/b> to Buss\/Direct 1-8<\/b> in order using the arrow keys, data wheel and enter button<\/b>.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. Do that same thing for 9-16<\/b>.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Set at least two inputs to monitor Slot 1 returns<\/b> (see p.47):<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Go to Routing>Input <\/b>by pressing the tab button<\/b> below the Input tab<\/b> at the bottom of the screen.<\/li>\n
    2. On the DM3200, it’s suggested to start with the FW\/Slot returns at channel 17 and up so you don’t waste any of your analog input channels.<\/li>\n
    3. Use the Pod 3<\/b> knob to set Layer Select<\/b> to Ch.17-32<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    4. Use the Pod 4 <\/b>knob to set Source Select<\/b> to Slot 1<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    5. Use the arrow keys, data wheel and enter button<\/b> to set INP Ch17<\/b> to Slot 1-1<\/b> and INP Ch18<\/b> to Slot 1-2<\/b> (if you want to monitor more than just two channels through the board, for instance to mix in the board rather than mixing in software, you could set up additional inputs on the board to mix additional outputs from ProTools).\u00a0\"DM3200<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Route your input channels to the Direct outputs <\/b>(see p.51):<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. To the right of the Stereo fader on the board press the Layer Status <\/b>button for Ch.1-16<\/b>.<\/li>\n
      2. Press the SEL<\/b> button above your input channel on the board to select that channel.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
      3. On the left side of the board, press the Direct<\/b> button in the Output Assign<\/b> section, and disable any other assignments in that area (only Direct should be lit up).\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Route the Slot return channels to the Stereo output<\/b> (see p.51):<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. To the right of the Stereo fader on the board press the Layer Status <\/b>button for Ch.17-32<\/b>.<\/li>\n
        2. Press the SEL<\/b> button above Ch.17<\/b>.<\/li>\n
        3. On the left side of the board, press the Stereo<\/b> button in the Output Assign <\/b>section, and disable any other assignments in that area (only Stereo should be lit up).\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
        4. Turn the fader on that channel up to 0db<\/b> and pan it left<\/b>.<\/li>\n
        5. Do the same things for Ch.18<\/b>, but pan it right<\/b>\u00a0(if you’re mixing in the board, the levels panning and effects on the Slot return channels will be your mix).\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          In ProTools, go to the Setup menu>Playback Engine <\/b>and set the driver\/current engine to the Tascam FW card<\/b>.<\/p>\n

          To make sure the IO labels are correct, reset your IO Setup<\/b>:<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Go to the Setup menu>IO Setup<\/b>.<\/li>\n
          2. Go to the Input<\/b> tab.<\/li>\n
          3. Select all the paths on the screen (Command-A or hold shift and click each one)<\/li>\n
          4. Click Delete Path<\/b>. It will warn you they’re in use, go ahead and delete them anyway.<\/li>\n
          5. Then Click Default<\/b> on the screen.<\/li>\n
          6. Repeat those steps on the Output <\/b>and Buss<\/b> tabs.<\/li>\n
          7. Before leaving the IO Setup window, choose Export Settings<\/b> and save that routing as “DM3200”. That will make the IO labels importable into any existing project as well as make it available in the New Session dialog window.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            On the output of the tracks, set those to the first pair of output choices. Those should show up on Slot 1 ch 1-2, which we set to show up on Ch.17-18 on the board.<\/p>\n

            If you’d like to do transport and fader control of ProTools from the DM3200, here’s a summary of the Pro Tools\/HUI setup:<\/p>\n

            The DM3200 needs to be connected via USB<\/b> to the computer.<\/p>\n

            On the DM3200<\/b>:<\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Go to Remote>Ext.CTRL<\/b> by holding the Alt<\/b> button and pressing the Remote<\/b> button then using the tab select buttons<\/b> to navigate to the Ext.CTRL tab<\/b>.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
            2. Add a 16 HUI Emulate<\/b> by using POD 4<\/b> to select 16 HUI Emulate<\/b> and pressing the Enter <\/b>button (the picture below is from a DM4800 which is why it says 24 instead of 16).\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n
            3. Go to Remote>Machine.CTRL<\/b> by pressing the tab button<\/b> below the Machine CTRL tab.<\/li>\n
            4. Select\u00a0M HUI Emulate<\/b> by using POD 4<\/b>. Using the arrow keys<\/b>, make sure the Arrow cursor<\/b> is next to the ADD<\/b> button, then press Enter<\/b>. Then, using the arrow keys<\/b>, move the cursor<\/b> next to the TRA option<\/b> and press Enter <\/b>to enable TRA.\u00a0\"DM4800<\/a>\"DM4800<\/a>\"DM4800<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              In ProTools<\/b>:<\/p>\n

                \n
              1. Go to the Setup menu>Peripherals>MIDI Controllers<\/b>.<\/li>\n
              2. Set Type<\/b> for #1<\/b>, and 2<\/b> to HUI<\/b>.<\/li>\n
              3. Set the Receive From<\/b> and Send To<\/b> for each HUI<\/b> to the corresponding Control port<\/b> on the DM3200. With the more recent versions they’ll say Control port 1 and 2. If that’s set up properly, you won’t get any “can’t locate HUI” errors from ProTools.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                The transport on the DM3200 should work all the time. The Faders and other functions work when the Layer Status on the board, to the right of the Stereo fader, is set to Remote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","categories":[],"tags":[115901,33883,34125,53649,55833],"storecat":[],"itemids":[3584,6808],"manufacturers":[33792,33207],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\t\n
