From tech wiz Mark (McGyver) Phillips. Do not mount rack mount DI’s and splitters directly above or below a power amp. They are all susceptible to induced fields. You’ll get 60Hz hum in the system and you’ll go NUTS trying to chase it down. Nothing will solve the problem except to move the splitter away from the power transformer. It is also something your Sweetwater Tech cannot ‘see’ over the telephone!Editor’s note: In my years of experience I have found many other instances where a piece of equipment’s position in a rack has caused hum or noise problems so I always recommend this as something worth checking in these situations. While there often may be a very technically sound reason for the problem and a potentially good logical solution, I have usually found it easier to simply move the equipment in the rack around to eliminate the problem.
