You can download this update from the following Microsoft Web site: <\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windows98\/downloads\/contents\/WURecommended\/S_WUFeatured\/1394\/Default.asp<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: This component updates your system files and requires you to restart your computer to complete the installation. Please save your work and quit all programs before installing. <br \/>This update installs the Safe Removal tool that allows you to safely stop a Plug and Play storage device prior to physically unplugging the device. This component also includes an update for 1394 drivers to resolve issues that are related to the &#8220;surprise&#8221; removal of peripheral devices. Large performance improvements (approximately 300 percent) have been made over the implementation of 1394 storage drivers in Windows 98 Second Edition.<\/p>\n<p>STATUS<br \/>Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 98 Second Edition. <\/p>\n<p>MORE INFORMATION &#8211; Uninstallation<br \/>If you suspect that installing this update has caused problems with your computer, you can uninstall the update using the steps below. <br \/>NOTE: Save your work and quit all programs before attempting to uninstall this component. Make sure that your original Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM is available to uninstall this component. <\/p>\n<p>1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.<\/p>\n<p>2. Search for the 242975un.inf file.<\/p>\n<p>3.
