Make sure the MobilePre USB is NOT connected to the computer and no application is opened before beginning the installation!<\/p>\n
Microsoft’s DirectX 8.1 needs to be installed on your Computer before beginning the driver installation for the M-Audio MobilePre USB. To determine the DirectX version installed on your computer, please click on “Start”, select “Run”, type “dxdiag” and click “OK”. Your DirectX Version is shown on this screen along with some additional information about your computer. If the DirectX Version is lower than 8.1, please go to www.microsoft.com and download\/install DirectX 8.1 before continuing the driver installation. <\/p>\n
1) Insert the M-Audio Driver CD into your CD ROM drive. <\/p>\n
2) Double-click “My Computer” on your Computer’s desktop. <\/p>\n
3) Double-click the CD ROM Icon (M Audio Drivers) and navigate to the “USB Audio \\ MobilePre” folder. <\/p>\n
4) Double-click “MobilePre_1xxx_CD.exe” on your Desktop to run the M-Audio MobilePre Setup program. <\/p>\n
5) This wizard will guide you through the installation process. CAREFULLY READ the displayed instructions – click the “Next” button for each screen once you have read and understood the instructions. <\/p>\n
6) Select if you want to “Enable digital CD audio for CD\/DVD drives” and “Enable DMA transfer mode for CD\/DVD drives”. These checkboxes need to be checked if you want play Audio CDs from your computer’s CD-ROM drive using the MobilePre USB. Click “Next”.<\/p>\n
7) When prompted, connect the MobilePre to your computer’s USB port. <\/p>\n
8) Windows’ “Add New Hardware Wizard” will come up and tell you that “The wizard searches for new drivers for: “USB Compostive Device (…possibly you will see another file name here)”. The MobilePre USB installer you ran in Step 5 of this guide prepared all the necessary files, so you won’t have to change any settings in the process of running the “Add New Hardware Wizard”. Just click “Next” on each of the displayed screens. <\/p>\n
9) Click “Finish” when the wizard tells you that “Windows has finished installing the software that your new hardware device requires”. <\/p>\n
10) (*) Windows will now recognize the MobilePre USB and will start to copy the driver files to the right locations. (More information on this at the end of this guide). <\/p>\n
11) If Windows asks to “Please insert the disk labeled ‘Windows98 Second Edition CD-ROM'”, please insert this disk. Wait until you hear that the Computer stopped accessing the CD, then click “OK”. Windows will copy additional files. <\/p>\n
12) Even if it might look like the computer has finished this task, please wait at least 2 minutes before you continue, since it might still copy files in the background – invisible to you. Once you’re sure it’s done, continue with step 13 of this guide.<\/p>\n
13) After being brought back to the “M-Audio MobilePre Installed Sucessfully” screen, click “Next” to complete the installation. <\/p>\n
14) Unless you chose to modify the settings for your CD-ROM\/DVD drive in Step 6 of this guide, you can click “Finish” to start using the MobilePre USB. If you did modify the settings, you will be asked to restart the computer. Click “Finish” and your computer will restart automatically and the MobilePre USB will be ready to be used once the Computer is started up again.<\/p>\n
(*) Depending on what has been previously installed on your computer, you might get a message that looks something like this: <\/p>\n

——File name: ksuser.dll, stream.sys, (possibly some additional filenames)<\/p>\n

——Do you want to keep this file? Yes\/No<\/p>\n
Make sure you select “No” in every one of these Dialogs. This will cause the existing file to be overwritten.
