Mac OS 9.0.4 should support Akai mixed-mode CDs.  However, Mac OS9.1 or 9.2.x does not.  If you have one of these systems, and you need to work with mixed-mode discs, your best bet is to upgrade to Mac OSX 10.2 or later.
