Roland’s new JV-80 Multi Timbral Synthesizer combines outstanding sound quality and unprecedented memory expandability with exciting new performance and editing features. The JV-80 is the ideal performing and gigging synth, and it is perfect for studio and sequencing applications as well.
The JV-80 contains a new sound source that provides a wide array of exceptionally high-quality multi-samples ranging from acoustic instruments and drum sounds, to unique sounds from the JD-800 and basic synth waves. Uncompromising sonic quality is guaranteed with 18-bit D\/A output. And when the 4Mbyte internal memory is augmented with an 8Mbyte expansion board and 2Mbyte ROM card, the JV-80 provides a remarkable 14Mbytes of ROM Tones. The multi-mode TVF can be modified with resonance, TVA, LFO, and Pitch, TVF, and TVA envelopes for any Tone, as well as newly developed FXM (Frequency Cross Modulation). Up to four Tones can be used to create a Patch, with complete control over layering with velocity-switch or mixing, as well as key-range for interesting zone effects. Each Patch also has 48 assignments for realtime control via aftertouch, modulation, and other parameyers. To allow users to take advantage of the full expressive potential of all its sounds, the JV-80 features a 61-key, velocity and aftertouch-sensitive keyboard. Whether in Patch or Performance mode, the JV-80’s voice preserve technology allows “glitchless” Patch changes on the same Part or MIDI channel, even when there’s no time allowed for the change. Solo legato and polyphonic portamento, as well as analog feel are welcome additions to the JV-80’s expressive power. There is also the “Playmate” function – a new type of tone delay that intelligently follows performance timing for unique effects linked to the speed with which you play different passages.
When the JV-80 is used as a master keyboard to control external MIDI devices, the keyboard can send eight MIDI channels simultaneously, each with individual zones.
Program change, level, pan, key-range and other parameters assigned for each channel may be stored to a Performance for instant recall. In addition to the JV-80’s eight sliders for editing and mixing, an assignable slider and footswitch\/pedal jacks are also included for flexible use of MIDI continuous controllers. A Panic button provides instant protection if a hanging note happens to be generated from connected MIDI equipment or the JV-80 itself.
Extraordinary sound support will be available for the JV-80. The Expansion boards are completely user-installable (even by novices) by simply unscrewing a small plate on the bottom of the instrument and plugging in the board of choice. The SO-PCM1 card sets for the JV-80 will each consist of two cards – a 2Mbyte wave card with brand new samples, and a parameter card with programming for the wave card. In addition, the wave card from all SL-JD80 card sets for the JD-800 will work in the JV-80.
